Loopy Ewe Embroidered Drawstring Project Bags – we have extra bags from our Anniversary Kits this past August, and many of you have asked for them! The muslin bags are embroidered and are 11.5″ high and 9.75″ wide. Perfect for sock, scarf, glove and hat projects.

Heart Stitchmarkers – we’re now stocking the cute heart stitchmarkers from our Anniversary Kits as well. We love this pack of 6 crocheted hearts by Lantern Moon, and they contribute 5% of their gross profits from this package to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in support of women’s heart health research, which is a cause that we are glad to support.

Soakbox Kits – The first batch of these flew out the door and we’ve been waiting for more. This cute kit comes with a skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport, a 3 oz. bottle of Soak (great travel size), a 3 oz. bottle of Handmaid lotion for your hands, a coordinating bottle of fingernail polish, and a pattern for fingerless mitts. Each kit/pattern is different. (Shown here in Lace Kelly).

Have fun checking out the new things and we’ll get your orders packed up and shipped off tomorrow!

Skein, Shalimar, Socktopus and More

Happy Monday! We’re bringing you lots of wonderful things tonight, and then we’ll have no Monday Update next week due to Columbus Day (and a No Mail Monday). Just up today, we added in:

Skein – Top Draw Sock. This fingering weight yarn is dyed up by Kristen in Australia, and comes 437 yards to the skein. It’s 85% Superwash Merino and 15% Nylon. Kristen is known for her beautiful color blends! This would be great for socks, but also one-skein shawls, cowls and mitts as well. (Shown here in Night Owl).

Shalimar – Breathless. A few more colors from our last order. This fingering weight yarn is one of my personal favorites because the yarn base (75% Superwash Merino, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk) is so luscious. If you’re making special holiday gifts, you might want to use this. It would be perfect for socks, shawls, scarves, cowls and hats.

Camp Loopy Colors – We had the tent groups in Camp Loopy’s Project Three come up with Camp Colorways and inspiration photos, and Lorna’s Laces took them and turned them into the most beautiful colors. We have: In The Wind, Nature’s Glory, Lilac Fields, Northern Lights, Orange Sunset and Soft Sunrise available, and you’ll find them under the Camp Loopy section in Yarn. (Shown here in Nature’s Glory).

Malabrigo – Silkpaca. You all have been having fun with this. (Or at least you’re having fun ordering it!) This laceweight yarn comes 420 yards to the skein and is 70% Baby Alpaca and 30% Silk. It’s beautiful and feels soft and wonderful. You’ll love using it for shawls and scarves.

Socktopus – Sokkusu. This yarn is hand-dyed in the UK and has a wonderful twist to it. Your patterns will really pop! The 100% super wash merino is great for shawls and scarves, and equally popular for socks. (Shown here in Ayame).

Mountain Colors – Bearfoot. More colors in this warm sock yarn base. 60% Superwash Merino, 25% Mohair, and 15% Nylon, with 400 yards to the skein. You might also try these colors for a triple-color shawl, like the Thin Ice shawl I made awhile back. Pick a multi-color that you like, and then two different solids to go with it.

Della Q – New fabric yarn caddies and yarn dispensers from Della Q, in addition to a re-stock on needle cases.

Loopy Ewe Tote bags – Project Keepers (great for 8 1/2 x 11 pattern plus yarn and needles), Purse Pals (great for notions like your tape measure, scissor, darning needle, stitch markers, etc), and Large Project Totes (holds everything).

Dream in Color – October Dream Club Yarn. (Shown here). This new base is a fingering weight with 75% wool, 25% silk and comes 440 yards to the skein. When you purchase a skein, we’ll also send you a free emailed pattern for the Autumn Fern Mobius Cowl. (Remember, we will have more skeins available again next week, so check back if we run out.) In addition to the cowl, you could also use this gorgeous yarn for shawls, scarves, socks and mitts.

Enjoy your browsing and shopping and we’ll get your orders packed up and shipped off to your house asap!

Weave a Scarf in No Time!

We offered a weaving class here at The Loopy Ewe last weekend, and it was a lot of fun! Each class participant got their own 15″ Cricket Loom and went to work, making themselves a scarf. Here they all are, learning how to warp their looms. The warping takes almost as long as the actual weaving part. You have to stretch the yarn a long way to get it the right length for a scarf.

Once the looms are warped and the excess yarn is rolled up, you can get to work with the weaving part, which seems like the most fun. Lynn, our instructor, brought her floor loom, just to keep us focused on which loom we might want to get next.

I can’t believe you can be done with a gorgeous scarf in a day! Two of the four had theirs done by the end of the day, and the other two were almost done by the time they left. Amazing. Here’s a photo of the pattern most were using – a houndstooth variation.

If you’re in our area, let us know if you’d like to take a weaving class. We’ll collect names for the next go-round. We’ll also have more 15″ Cricket Looms back in stock again soon.

So – do you weave? I can’t wait to jump in and make a scarf!

Color Inspiration

I walk down the worsted aisle at The Loopy Ewe at least 20 times a day. It’s my favorite aisle, just because the colors are so enticing. The Cascade 220 Superwash comes in balls, and it feels like a painter’s palette. I wish I could stand in front of it and take a dab of this and a dab of that, and blend it into a masterpiece! Which …. of course, I could. Not a dab here and there, but a ball of yarn here and there. I’d like to just stay there for a few hours and play with color combinations. There are 140+ colors to choose from.

Beyond the pegs of superwash, you’ll find the cubbies of regular 220 Worsted. 250+ more colors to choose from. See why it’s my favorite aisle?

When you figure that we have four long aisles (each about 65 feet long), and there is yarn on both sides, and we have yarn in other corners and walls in the shop, that adds up to a whole lot of color inspiration.

When people come for their first visit to Loopy, they come in the door and see this and think this is the size of the shop:

And then they round the corner and look down the first aisle that seems to go on forever:

Usually, they say, “This is huge!”, with a big grin on their face. One gal came with her dad. He took one look around the corner and gave her a panicked look and said, “I think we need to set a time deadline.”

All that to say, I can’t really be held responsible for all of the different projects that I start. If you worked here, you’d be doing the same thing. Right? It’s not my fault. It’s a job hazard.
