If you read last week’s blog post, you know I’m in Germany this week, visiting Claudia (the Wollmeise). Last fall, Claudia and her friend Maria came to visit me, and we had a great time knitting, shopping, and hanging out. Usually, Claudia comes for the Spring Fling each year and we are so busy that we don’t get enough time to just sit and knit and chat. So it was fun to have her here during a non-Spring Fling time. (And it’s fun being with her here in Germany this week!) One thing that happened last fall when Claudia and Maria were here? I was bitten by the Nuvem bug. They both got off the plane wearing these beautiful scarf/wrap creations and I was immediately interested. Even MORE so when I tried it on. The Nuvem is knit with about 1700 yards of lace, making it really lightweight, but at the same time, really warm. I wanted to start one immediately.
So, I jumped right in using a skein of Spice Market. (It had been caked up to be a sweater, but you know my history with sweaters, up to this point.) The Nuvem pattern requires a lot (a LOT) of knitting around and around. But I really don’t mind that kind of knitting. You don’t have to think about it. One row is knit around. The second row is knit around, plus making about 12 increases along the way. That’s it! See how the ends flare out a little? That’s where you do the increases. (The true color is shown in the second photo.) And I liked working on it so much, that I started a second one while the first one was soaking in the wash, getting ready for a blocking. I thought it would be great knitting on the plane and in Germany. I did make some changes when I knit it. I made it longer (I cast on 230 stitches to begin with), I made it a little narrower (I think about 22 inches across), and I did 9 rows on the ruffle instead of 6.
So here’s the thing. I had caked up two skeins of Spice Market Lace when I thought I was making a sweater out of them (knitting it holding two strands together.) Since I changed my mind, I used one cake for my Nuvem and I have another Spice Market all caked up, ready to give to someone else. Would you like it? I love knitting lace. I started knitting lace doilies in my 20’s and from there, to bright colored shawls for my hippy years. Spice market colors are so rich and perfect North East colors. I would be so warm wearing a Nuvem.
i have knit a couple scarves with wollmeise lace, but i find i don’t have the attention span for most lace patterns. i often find another creative use for the yarn.
I absolutely love knitting with lace weight yarn. I love the drapey, light-weight fabrics that you get, and my wallet loves the amount of knitting that you get for your dollar.
I have knit 2 CashSilk Fern scarves (a gorgeous pattern by the way and an equally gorgeous yarn). I started the first as a Camp Loopy project. I keep trying to make it through a lace shawl, but I haven’t quite succeeded yet. 🙂

I absolutely LOVE lace weight yarn. In the skein. At any yarn store or display, I am guaranteed to fall for the lace weight skeins. I”ve done a Color Affection in lace and love the hand. So, I think a Nuvem in Spice Market sounds splendid for me!
I really love Spice Market! And I love Nuvem. I have actually 4 of it ( Nuvem, not Spice market^^). But the combination of both is my absolute dream since I saw this color for first time.

Wollmeise Spice Market is a beautiful colorway! Nuvem has been on my to-do list for a long time and I would love to show off that wonderful color with a beautiful new shawl!
Wow!! The yarn is beautiful!! I have attempted lace knitting a couple of times, but had some difficulty. In the lace projects that I had started, though, there were a lot of YO and other “special” stitches. This project sounds as if it would be more up my alley since it is knitting, knitting, knitting. And…I love ruffles!!!
The only lace knitting I’ve done has been with fingering yarn, not finer. It was fun. So far, I’ve liked knitting lace more than wearing it, but this pattern looks very wearable.
I have done knitted and crocheted lace work. I love it! I do love the nuvem pattern and would love to try it!

I love Spice Market! Lace is what kept me knitting during my first year after being introduced to the needles. My first Camp Loopy was a two color Whippoorwill shawl. using Sanguine Gryphon’s Bugga! yarn which makes extensive use of lace stitches for drapey increases (YO to open holes and then twist them shut on the purl rows). When I finally got to the YOs that would actually stay holes on the border, I got a bit carried away and left an additional row of them. If the yarn hadn’t been so richly colored or SOFT, I would have stopped a hundred times over. Instead, I had to keep going and I learned to knit lace and continued knitting in general.
I have done a few lace projects and really enjoyed them but I have not done Nuvem yet.
I love lace yarn and enjoy the fact that I get to knit it for such a long long time! Always feels like a beloved book that you never want to end..that is how good lace yarn is to me.
I have never had the opportunity to knit with Wollmeise lace, but have been fortunate enough to knit with their fingering weight…love love love the colors and the Spice Market is my favorite color way!! I would love the opportunity to knit Wollmeise Lace in that amazing color!

I really love to knit with lace. I alreday knitted 2 or 3 lace shawls. I knitted a nuvem too but not out of wollmeise lace. My first lace project was the walk on the moon. I totally love this yarn and I will knit with this lace surely again. I like the look and the wonderful patterns which are existing for lace works =)
I have dabbled in lace a few times…..only making small sample items. I’m am currently working on the Lila Blue with Shalimar Breathless but would love to start on the Nuvem next!

OMG! Would love love love SpiceMarket! I am still waiting to get into my first lace adventure. I keep getting overwhelmed or intimidated… or both. Maybe i need just the right yummy yarn to get me past that point. 😉
Until very recently, I HATED knitting lace. This year, I learned how to better read charts, use color-coded stitch markers to define my repeats and discovered the magic of blocking! I knit several shawls this year and I’ve got more on the needles!

That color is perfect for a Minnesota fall project and the Nuvem would be just right, not too warm. Sitting In Germany amongst all of that gorgeous yarn sounds fantastic, a knitter’s dream.
I have a few lace shawls.usually it takes me about 5 starts to get the pattern right. And sometimes a find a weird hole after blocking. But this one sound easy. I ‘d love to try it.
I’ve knit lace scarves for gifts, and am working on my first lace (weight) shawl, Color Affection. Next I want to try merino lace. And someday I really really really want to try Wollmeise! The Nuvum patter looks great, that is going on my list!

I love knitting lace. My first ever lace project was a doily knit from sewing thread on 1 mm needles. Most of the projects I create myself have a lace element. A few years ago I made a Girasole which was my largest lace project using Dream in Color Baby. It was followed by a scarf from hand dyed silk thread. I usually have some sort of lace project on the needles and am currently working on a lace scarf from fingering weight cashmere and a lace faroese style shawl from a mohair silk blend.
I did a complicated lace shawl for a dear friend which was a great gift, but I could only work on it when I wouldn’t be interrupted, which made it hard! But lace weight is such a nice weight. Nuvem looks like a great project! Add it to my list of must-do projects!
I like your elongated version. Have you found any issues with it rolling on the edges? I’ve knit several lace pieces but they aren’t generally something that fits into my wardrobe so they tend to get gifted.
I finished my first lace scarf last week. It still need blocking to really show off the cat paws. It is going to be a gift for me sister.
I love your Nuvem! That pattern has been in my favorites and queue for a while. My very first lace project was a shawl using cobweb lace . . . oy! But I love it and really enjoyed knitting it.
