If you read last week’s blog post, you know I’m in Germany this week, visiting Claudia (the Wollmeise). Last fall, Claudia and her friend Maria came to visit me, and we had a great time knitting, shopping, and hanging out. Usually, Claudia comes for the Spring Fling each year and we are so busy that we don’t get enough time to just sit and knit and chat. So it was fun to have her here during a non-Spring Fling time. (And it’s fun being with her here in Germany this week!) One thing that happened last fall when Claudia and Maria were here? I was bitten by the Nuvem bug. They both got off the plane wearing these beautiful scarf/wrap creations and I was immediately interested. Even MORE so when I tried it on. The Nuvem is knit with about 1700 yards of lace, making it really lightweight, but at the same time, really warm. I wanted to start one immediately.
So, I jumped right in using a skein of Spice Market. (It had been caked up to be a sweater, but you know my history with sweaters, up to this point.) The Nuvem pattern requires a lot (a LOT) of knitting around and around. But I really don’t mind that kind of knitting. You don’t have to think about it. One row is knit around. The second row is knit around, plus making about 12 increases along the way. That’s it! See how the ends flare out a little? That’s where you do the increases. (The true color is shown in the second photo.) And I liked working on it so much, that I started a second one while the first one was soaking in the wash, getting ready for a blocking. I thought it would be great knitting on the plane and in Germany. I did make some changes when I knit it. I made it longer (I cast on 230 stitches to begin with), I made it a little narrower (I think about 22 inches across), and I did 9 rows on the ruffle instead of 6.
So here’s the thing. I had caked up two skeins of Spice Market Lace when I thought I was making a sweater out of them (knitting it holding two strands together.) Since I changed my mind, I used one cake for my Nuvem and I have another Spice Market all caked up, ready to give to someone else. Would you like it? I’ve knit a number of lace projects/shawls in sock weight. I have an Ishbel on the needles in lace weight but nowhere near done. May have to frog it. I’m trying to get better at finishing projects!!
I am still knitting on the Viajante with my lacegarn….and I would love to tackle the Nuvem. I have had it in my favorites on ravelry for quite a long while. The spice market would look great with my hair : )
I’m making stockings from lace weight with a simple lace pattern. I’d like to attempt a shawl next.
My first lace-weight project was for Camp Loopy in 2011. At the time I was a bit scared of such tiny yarn and doing a project with so many yards (800+) in a month! I have gotten more lace weight with plans of more shawls and the “Two strands at the same time sweater project,” but of course it just sits there in my queue, mocking me. I have been very tempted by Nuvem!
I was so afraid of lace knitting for the longest time, then I made my Wheelwright shawl in Madtosh Prairie, and I loved absolutely every minute of it! I had heard such great things about WM Lace (I’ve used fingering and pure and they’re wonderful!) and would love to give it a shot!!

I have knit lace projects with sock weight yarn, but never a project with lace weight yarn. I am about to try Citron Shawl in lace weight yarn with lace patterns in the stockinette sections. It should be interesting to kind of modify the pattern with my own lace inserts. I hope I get my knitting math done correctly!
Knitted my first lace-weight scarf for Camp Loopy 1 (bias before-and-after scarf). Then tried to do a Featherweight Cardi in Madtosh Prairie for Camp Loopy 3…and it still needs half a sleeve and a button band. Sigh. Your Nuvem is beautiful and sells me on the pattern even more!
I’ve knit a blanket with a lace pattern and 2 simple scarves. I would love to try a bigger project. That yarn is so beautiful!

I thought I would try a Nuvem sometime but this fall would be great — I want to do a Shetland shawl and KNOW I will need a “down time” project in the middle of my eyeballs rolling around with the Shetland construction … would be great to win the Spice Market!

I love knitting lace! Currently I’m cruising through a Traveling Companion (pattern on Ravelry) and I have done lace scarves and shawls. Love them!
I have knit two lace shawls in the past. The lace project on my needles now is rock island. It has become challenging. I had to restart it a few times. The Nuvem looks so nice and comfy to wear!

I’ve done a few lace items- a cat’s paw lace scarf, socks (Tidal Wave w/ tofutsi) a shawl w/bulky weight yarn, etc. And I’m hoping to do more lace work! I’d knit a nuvem with the spice market- such lovely colors!

i love knitting lace, but i have realized that i rarely wear it… i think nuvem would be just the ticket, but that much knitting in the round is intimidating… maybe on the next road trip!
Everything I’ve been knitting lately is either lace yarn or fingering. I’ve been bitten by the lace shawl bug. 🙂 After reading your comments a Nuvem is being added to the must knit list! It would be so wonderful if it would be a Spice Market Nuvem. 😉
Last summer I did my first lace project as part of the Summer Solstice Mystery KAL. I jumped in because another knitter asked Wendy Johnson if a beginner could knit the shawl. Wendy was very encouraging. By jumping in I learned that I love,love ,love, lace.
I have made a number of lace-weight shawls, but I have not made the Nuvem. It looks like it would be a lot of fun!

I have half of a lovely lace shawl that is currently in time out. It somehow keeps growing stitches where it shouldn’t. Maybe a Nuvem is what I should have been knitting.

I LOVE knitting lace. Taught myself many years ago by going through the Barbara Walker treasury patterns and have never looked back. Nuvem is new to me and looks like a good knit.
I really want to knit a Nuvem but the right yarn hasn’t jumped out at me. I would love a skein of Wollmeise Lace. I have knit an Austin Hoodie out of Wollmeise Lace and it is wonderful.

I really enjoy knitting with lace weight yarn. I’m planning on knitting a pair of lace weight fingerless mitts for a friend for Christmas this year. I’ve looked at the Nuvem pattern several times and think I’ll knit one soon. I’m also itching to knit Viajante
I am about 2/3 finished with my first Nuvem and I can’t wait to finish and wear it! I could totally see myself knitting another one and Spice Market would be perfect.
I’ve done very little lace knitting, as I”m not a lace wearing guy, and none of my guy friends are either. I don’t knit for many women, as in my circle anyway, they are less appreciative than the guys. I do like laceweight for mitts. We don’t need heavy-duty gloves too often here in SF, but mitts come in handy mornings and evenings for must of the year. Laceweight makes them less cumbersome.
I really enjoy lace knitting. I knit a Ladybug Shawlette using fingering-weight yarn for my first Camp Loopy project this summer, and I loved how it turned out. Currently knitting my way through my newest book, Sock Yarn Shawls. I would love to win this yarn!!
I started knitting lace a couple of years ago, and I really enjoy it. Living in a mild climate, a lace wrap is both practical and fun to work on. I started with simple patterns, but now I have to admit that I most enjoy intricate lace patterns worked from charts. I’ve wanted a skein I spice market forever– lucky you to score two of them! I love to knit lace! I went on a lace shawlette bender this Summer and knit 7 of them, back-to-back. I used fingering weight yarn, however.

Talk about yardage… I enjoy fine lace projects in lush yarn ( I just under estimated my available time in August with kids off from school. I would love to have Spicy play time with Nuvem 🙂
