We need some color here in St. Louis – how about you? It has been raining for days and will continue to do so until Saturday. Now you know that I like rainy, cloudy days, but this is getting ridiculous. So I thought I’d share a fall photo that my hubby took last weekend. Click on this indian corn photo to make it big, and check out the kernals on the ear third from the left. Amazing! I’ve never seen a colorburst like that before.
Good news – because I’m within a day’s delivery from Dream in Color, we’ve been able to re-stock all of the Knitosophy line already. (And our wayward box of the BOLD colorway arrived. I took a quick photo of it here – beautiful blues – but I’ll make sure that the “official” photo gets taken later this week, too. I did add them to the site. I didn’t want you to have to wait on ordering it, as several of you have asked about it.) This new dye method turns out gorgeous colorways. If you were in our sock club in 2008, Veronica experimented with this method on the Spicy Kisses colorway that she did for us that summer. I’m having trouble deciding which colorway to knit up first. I like Butterfly and Superhero because of the color mixes. But Blossom is so tangy that you can almost taste it. And I love the thought behind Strength and Laugh. (Come to think of it, those would be good colorways to use for socks or shawls or scarves for people who need a little of that in their lives.) Hard to decide. I know you all had the same problem, because so many of you bought several of them! It will be fun to see your projects as you finish them up.
While I’ve been knitting at night, I’ve been watching the Food Network. Big mistake. Now I find myself wanting cake when I go to bed. I used to like white cake with chocolate frosting, but then I tried Kirstin’s Chai buttercream frosting on a spice cupcake and that immediately moved to my favorite spot. Although now that I’ve seen this “Decadent Chocolate” photo, I think I might need to try one of those for comparison. (Photo used with permission.) Unfortunately As You Wish Bakery doesn’t ship, but I will let you know if that ever changes. I’m definitely ordering platters of her cake balls for next year’s Spring Fling. I have an “in” with her mom, Janice, who comes down to help me with the Fling every year. I’m sure she’ll deliver. This month’s blog contest question – what is your favorite flavor of cake and frosting? I’ve saved some skeins full of color for prizes and we’ll draw for them next week, so leave your comment below to be entered!

Carrot Cake and Cream Cheese Frosting! (I thought the caps were a good thing to show I’m yelling it in a tiny way)
I think I’ll go make one….BWAHAHAHAHA
Spicy Date Cake, unfrosted (yes, that would be nude)
Oh, man. This is a toughie. I would say either carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (but this could very well be because I’ve been craving it for a few weeks now) or pretty much any cake made from scratch with home made butter cream frosting. One of the best I’ve made is a black forest cake: rich, dense, chocolate layer cake with butter cream frosting in between the layers and on the outside, wrapped in a shell of tempered chocolate, dark and milk, made to look like wood. Delicious!!
If I’m cooking, old-fashioned spice cake with buttercream frosting. If someone else is cooking, brownstone front cake with cooked frosting. (I don’t do cooked sugar frosting after seeing my dad spill it on himself once when I was a child.)
That being said, I recently found a recipe online for rootbeer float cupcakes with vanilla ice-cream instead of frosting. When I get around to digging out my rootbeer extract I suspect I’ll find have a new favourite. 🙂
My favorite cake is carrotcake, with vanilla frost. Hmmmm..first ate it in the US.
Oooh – this is such a hard one! To be honest, it’s a toss-up (good English term that!) between lemon sponge with orange frosting or chocolate sponge with coffee frosting sprinkled with chopped walnuts – all favourites from my Mum’s oven 😉
Ooh, this is a hard one. I really like to bake so I often bake different kinds. For the decadent days, I really like dense chocolate cupcakes with rich chocolate frosting. For more fun days, I like peanutbutter cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting. Then there are the simple days with an easy yellow cake cupcake with a sugar frosting (sometimes I add more flavour, but usually it’s just ‘plain’).
I’ve just baked cookies, though, so I’ll have to eat those first before I bake cupcakes! 🙂
My favorite is carrot cake with cream cheese frosting but a real close second is chocolate with that fluffy white frosting.
My favorite cake is chocolate sheet cake with boiled chocolate frosting, it has just a hint of cinnamon – this makes a huge sheet cake and I could eat it all. What could be better than chocolate and cinnamon!
I love love love lemon cake. When I was little, lemon Bundt cake with a drizzled lemon glaze seemed to be the height of delicious sophistication, but now that I make my own birthday cakes, they are lemon cake with strawberry frosting. I think I have to make cupcakes today……
Angel food cake is my favorite by far!
Current favorite is pumpkin spice with cream cheese frosting. YUM!
I love cake, and my favorite has to be a white custard cake with whipped cream frosting and strawberries.
My total favorite cake/frosting combo is red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. Publix also sells a chocolate ganache cake that is absolute delicious chocolate overload. ^_^
Chocolate/chocolate is a no fail combo at our house. However, for special occasions, the one we love is a cheery citrus colored, orange kissed cake with a chocolate fudge icing on it. Sadly, all our birthdays are clumped together so it is mostly a once a year treat.
vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. simplicity. heaven!
Rum cake with glaze, although carrot cake/cream cheese icing is a close second!
Oh that one is easy. A cake my grammy used to make for my birthday every year. It’s a Devil’s Fudge Cake with White chocolate cream cheese icing.
Oh that one is easy. It’s a cake that my Grammy used to make every year for my birthday. A Devil’s Fudge cake with white chocolate cream cheese icing.
vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. simplicity. heaven!
thanks!
I LOVE CUPCAKES,BUT IF I HAVE TO CHOSE I GUESS IT WOULD HAVE TO BE
CARROT CAKE WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING AND LOTS OF WALNUTS SPRINKLED ON TOP, COMING IN SECOND WOULD HAVE TO BE GINGERBREAD CUPCAKES, WITH
CREAM CHEESE WITHA HINT OF LEMON.
Oh, those cupcakes look good! My favorite cake (which I make for all family birthdays) is Texas Chocolate Sheetcake with chocolate frosting. I about quintuple the amount of cocoa asked for in the recipe. It’s the best!
For me it is a lemon cupcake with tart lemon filling and lemon frosting. Yummmm.
I do love cupcakes. You can eat a couple and convince yourself that you have not eaten a whole piece of cake, besides, they are just so darn cute.
White cake with raspberry jam between the layers with a white chocolate icing. But the Chai icing sounds good off to google.
Fall is my favorite time of year and there’s nothing better than taking a brisk walk in the woods then coming home to a freshly baked Apple Cake with Cream Cheese frosting! Too bad it’s raining here too but the cake will still taste good without the walk.
My favorite cake is German chocolate with the pecan coconut frosting.
I adore carrot cake with cream cheese frosting!
I used to request poppyseed cake with a custard-type frosting as my birthday cake as a child. A close second would be carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
My favorite cupcake variety is a nice dark chocoloate cake with peanut butter frosting. If, I’m just having cake, it’s got to be angel food with sliced straweberries for topping — no frosting here.
Well my all time favorite is a devils food cake with ‘white fluffy icing.’ That’s what we always called it as kids. The icing is egg whites, cream of tarter, sugar, water and vanilla and you make a syrup out of the sugar, cream of tarter, and water then it gets poured slowly into a mixer beating the egg whites. & just before the end you beat in a little vanilla. If anyone wants the recipe for the ‘white fluffy icing’ you can e-mail me.
If I had to choose a second it’d be yellow cake & chocolate icing.
We have a little restaurant in town that makes sublime moist cupcakes with a generous crown of frosting…french vanilla, double chocolate, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and my personal favorite, the red velvet with cream cheese frosting and little red sugar sprinkles. They have some other kinds from time to time and they rotate, but they’re all yummy so there’s always one that catches my eye.
Now I’m hungry….lol.
So many flavors to choose from… My favorite is white cake with cherries and nuts. Cream Cheese frosting a must!
Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. YUM!
Red velvet cake and cream cheese icing is the best.
Is there any other flavor besides chocolate? Chocolate cake, chocolate fudgy icing, and if you could sprinkle chocolate chips on top or chocolate curls I’d be a happy girl. Or maybe a peanut butter cup for the top, got to have a bit of protein.
well..if I’M making the cake it would probably be Texas Sheet Cake !
just a hint of cinnamon in the chocolate cake and thick shiny chocolate fudge frosting…..however …if Im out and about ….Opera Cream from our much loved Bon Bonnerie Bakery here in Cincinnati!
My favorite (discovered by my son) is lemon pound cake with chocolate frosting. Wow!
Red velvet cake with butter cream frosting. yum yum yum
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting – it must have those little frosting carrots as well.
My favorite is Spice cake with cinnamon cream cheese icing! My mamaw used to make this for me every year at Thanksgiving. YUMMY
Carrot cake or spice cake or pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting.
Or chocolate cake with buttercream frosting.
Or white cake with buttercream frosting.
Hell, just the tub of buttercream frosting.
You’re right, scrolling thru the replies just on the way down here to post makes me want CAKE, and more CAKE. Too bad i don’t really bake….Favorite here is Carrot with cream cheese, even after considering all the chocolate goodness in the world!
My favorite cake is a chocolate cake made with “special dark cocoa” and a chocolate buttercream frosting. I make it for family birthdays.
My favorite is a moist chocolate fudge cake made with sour cream that my mom made and topped with a very fudgey and delish chocolate frosting!
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
I love chocolate anything but there is a cake my sister in law makes that has to be
the best I’ve ever tasted, Italian Cream cake, lots of cream cheese frosting, walnuts
and very few calories! LOL
The favorite that I’ve had/made would have to be spice cake with a coffee flavored icing with carrot and cream cheese following at a close second, but the one I’m itching to try is a hazelnut browned butter cake with a dark chocolate ganache.
Cake is my very favorite dessert, so a favorite flavor just depends on the day! 😉 Today I’ll say lemon with lemon butter cream frosting. Yum. I might have to make a cake now this weekend.
Too many to choose from, but the top three are:
1. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting – my grandmother always made one for our birthdays.
2. My mom’s carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
3. Lemon pound cake with lemon drizzle.
I think I’m going to have to bake a cake today….
Mmm…cupcakes! I love Black Forest cakes and can only imagine how tasty that flavor combination would be on a smaller scale. If it’s a cupcake, it has fewer calories, so I can eat more, right?
I’m also developing a taste for fruity sweets as I get older. Maybe something wih peaches poached in rum atop a whipped frosting on a yellow or spice cupcake?
