Still Loving Socks … and a CONTEST!

Thank you for all of your great book and movie suggestions in last week’s Anniversary contest! I have discovered the benefits of books on tape (or, I guess they call it audiobooks now. Books on tape is so yesterday…) I can walk or knit while listening to good books, and now I have a whole list of titles to explore. We used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from last week’s comments. We’re sending Sixth Anniversary Kits to Dianne in IN and Leah in MO. Congratulations to you two!

We have a new contest for you again today. (Do you like the weekly contests during our Anniversary Month? We do!) This week’s question is an easy one, I think. What item have you knit or crocheted the most? Socks? Shawls? Sweaters? Blankets? Scarves? Mittens and Gloves? Hats and Cowls? Leave the answer in the comments below and we’ll draw the winner next week. I have two skeins of Wollmeise Lace that we’ll be sending to two winners!

I went to Ravelry to see what the answer would be for me. I’ve missed photoing a few things, but most of what I have knit is on my Rav project page. The answer? Still overwhelmingly socks! Some 60 pairs of socks, about 25 shawls, 30 scarves, 15 gloves/mitts, 10 hats/cowls, a few blankets, a few sweaters, and a few felted bags from the early days. How about you? (You don’t have to give exact numbers – just tell me what you think you have knit the most!)

  1. Once I started to knit shawls, I did fewere pairs of socks, shawls is what I do the most of: approx 24-28 in the last couple of years, though that’s not very many compared to some of those prolific knitters.

  2. Socks. I don’t even need to check. 😉

Oddly enough, scarves might be #2. Even though they pile up, they are as necessary here as socks…so as long as I don’t forget I have a particular scarf, it’ll get worn. Unlike some of my jumpers and cardis that get tossed by the wayside once they’re done…

  3. Thru the years, I think if counted it would be sweaters as number one, then socks and then scarfs and shawls. I love that you can count your’s on your project page, Sheri. I am starting to do that as well this year. Thank you for the wonderful contests during your anniversary month!

  4. Tons of shawls and scarves, but Socks are the winner for me. My God-mother and I wore the same size…very small feet, 5 1/2, so handknit socks are the only ones that fit us so that is what I did for years. She just passed away and I miss her so much, but always think of her as I knit myself socks.

  5. I have knit for many years and I think sweaters and socks number nearly the same. I don’t have all of my recent years projects pictured on Rav but I do have a drawer full of socks. A lot of the sweaters have come and gone but am working on some now. Shawls will soon be catching up.

  6. I would have to say hats; between hats I have made for me, family, deploying soldiers, and most recently my new little grandson who is a preemie and outgrows his hats every couple weeks. Would love to make a lacy shawl!!

  7. It would have to be shawls, I love working with lace. I know my Ravelry pages aren’t up to date but counting on there, it would look like hats since I made so many a few years ago for Kristy’s Hat Project but I would have to say my go to project is lace so some Wollmeise lace would be loverly LOL

  8. hats because I give them out as gifts all the time! although, I can say you did make me look & I have made more things than I thought- more sweaters than I thought for sure! would love to make one out of some lace weight WM!

  9. I’ve knit a lot of stuffed toys over the years, although lately I’ve really gotten into socks because they’re so portable!

  10. It was scarves, but I think my socks have finally won out. I’ve knit quite a few blankets as well, but my favorites are still socks! 😀

  11. I have to say bags of one type or another but thanks to some really good friends I am branching out with shawls and love them. I want to make a lace project you know one of the WOW ones.

  12. Definitely socks for me, although shawls are catching up steadily.
In my mind, I want it to be hats, but it just hasn’t happened yet.

  13. over the lifetime it has probably been socks but the last couple of years the shawls are making a good showing.

  14. Sweaters for me. That’s what I really wanted to make even when I first started to knit. Though more shawls/shawlettes recently because the patterns are so pretty. But I don’t wear them as much.

  15. Definitely scarves – love each and every one. It’s a great way to try out all kinds of yarn as well – 2 skeins most times. And I actually wear them too.

  16. Surprisingly Hats are number one (17). Guess they are so small that they just sneak up on you. The runner up is Socks with 12 done+1wip. The rest are: Dishcloths (12), Scarfs (6+4wip), Mitts/Gloves (8), Shawls (6+2wip), Samplers (5+3wip), Toys (6), Sweaters (3+1wip), Blankets (2+1wip), & Others including 2 bibs, 2 hotwater bottle covers, 1 slippers, & 1 dog sweater.
