Still Loving Socks … and a CONTEST!

Thank you for all of your great book and movie suggestions in last week’s Anniversary contest! I have discovered the benefits of books on tape (or, I guess they call it audiobooks now. Books on tape is so yesterday…) I can walk or knit while listening to good books, and now I have a whole list of titles to explore. We used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from last week’s comments. We’re sending Sixth Anniversary Kits to Dianne in IN and Leah in MO. Congratulations to you two!

We have a new contest for you again today. (Do you like the weekly contests during our Anniversary Month? We do!) This week’s question is an easy one, I think. What item have you knit or crocheted the most? Socks? Shawls? Sweaters? Blankets? Scarves? Mittens and Gloves? Hats and Cowls? Leave the answer in the comments below and we’ll draw the winner next week. I have two skeins of Wollmeise Lace that we’ll be sending to two winners!

I went to Ravelry to see what the answer would be for me. I’ve missed photoing a few things, but most of what I have knit is on my Rav project page. The answer? Still overwhelmingly socks! Some 60 pairs of socks, about 25 shawls, 30 scarves, 15 gloves/mitts, 10 hats/cowls, a few blankets, a few sweaters, and a few felted bags from the early days. How about you? (You don’t have to give exact numbers – just tell me what you think you have knit the most!)

  1. Rav’s down at the moment, but, without being able to count, I’m guessing toddler sweaters for my nieces and socks for me, at least as far as completed projects go. Probably hats would be next.

  2. I’m awful at updating my projects on raverly. I knit everything pretty evenly, except hats. As I go through a mental count, I am surprised by how many hats I’ve made. Shrugs are a close second. 🙂

  3. I’ve gone through stages as my knitting knowledge has progressed:

I started with some pretty ugly scarves, followed by a lot of socks. Once I learned how to read a pattern I knit everyone I knew a hat. Plus a few extra for emergencies. Now I am onto shawls and cowls (anything involving lace!) and I hope to be into sweaters next!

  4. Probably scarves and shawls. At least I have been on a shawl bender as of late. And I have lots of holiday requests for those as well. 🙂 BUT I do plan on making my Hermione socks as soon as I get done with Camp Loopy.

  5. Hats! My Ravelry page doesn’t show it, but I’ve knitted (and crocheted) more hats than anything else.

  6. My knitting ADD really shows when I look at my Ravelry projects. I’m split between shawls/scarves and sweaters, with some socks, hats, gloves, blankets, and stuffed animals thrown in for good measure. Apparently if it can be knit, I want to knit it. (My husband would categorize that as a problem, but I’m gonna call it a personal strength!)

  7. I have knit scarves the most. Mostly because they make my plain black coat look more interesting than it would be all by itself.

  8. I think by now I’ve still probably knitted more pairs of socks than anything else although the shawls and crocheted baby blankets are creeping up in numbers. I haven’t been very good about updating my projects on Ravelry. Will have to do that one day.

  9. I have definately knit socks the most. And hats next, probably. I want to do more shawls, and my first adult sweater soon!

  10. I have really started to branch out with my knitting, but to date my answer would have to be scarves. When my daughter was a senior in high school (2002) I knit a scarf for every girl in her graduating class. I had knit a scarf for her that all the girls loved so I said if they picked the color I’d buy the yarn and knit one for each of them. I’ve branched out into shawls, sweaters and baby hats. My daughter picks the pattern and yarn for the hat for a friend of hers who is pregnant, and I knit it for her to give as a gift. My next leap? Socks. Don’t like those double point needles, but I know if I master them, I’ll be able to branch out with other projects. I’m a magic loop gal for baby hats, but want to become comfortable with double points.

  11. Hands down, it’s mitts. Mainly because I went through a Fetching phase, where I couldn’t stop knitting them. They’re quick gifts, always come out stunningly, and are welcomed by all recipients so far. 🙂

  12. In the past, I knit a lot of washcloths, just because they were so quick. But recently I’ve made several afghans, from baby-sized to full.

  13. 8 blankets, 8 cowls, 1 bookmark, 2 adult sweaters, 4 mittens/mitts/gloves, 4 booties/baby socks, 2 bags, 1 felted bowl, 21 hats, 1 lion, 1 snake, 1 poncho, 1 headband, 18 scarves/shawls, 1 chuppah, 19 socks….

Hats for the win with 21!

  14. For me it’s a tie between cowls and fingerless mittens! I love both and like to make matching sets for my family & friends 🙂

  15. I have done more Hats than anything. My Grandmother showed me her pattern for Baby hats and I have used it over and over.

  16. I think I’ve done more shawls and scarves than anything else, at least in this, my second knitting life. In my first knitting life I did more sweaters. I have less time now.

When I get in a knitting slump I knit one dishcloth after another.

  17. Socks have got to be first for me! With maybe a nod to shawls lately. If it can be done with a single skein, I’ll probably at least have the pattern in my queue.

  18. toys – hands down the think I knit the most b/c I like to give a lot of gifts to little kids. They are quick and satisfying.

I have more sweaters and shawls coming up on my radar though b/c I need to be a more selfish knitter.

  19. That’s tough…it still looks like mostly socks, with shawls running second 🙂 There’s unfortunately a huge swathe of time where I lost pictures, so it was hard to buzz through and estimate how much of what I’ve done.
