Malabrigo, Cascade, and a CONTEST!

It has been a busy day (getting all of your Second Quarter Challenge orders out), so this is coming to you a little late in the day. When we pack up your orders, we always have fun talking about what you might be making (and hoping that you get it done so that you’ll submit a photo for us to see!) We love being a part of your shopping here, from me checking out your selections when I write on your orders, to the Elves pulling them and packing them up carefully. Thanks for letting us be your personal shoppers as we walk around the shop, filling up the order bin for you. We get to enjoy all of your yarn vicariously and then send it on its way to your house!

Tomorrow we’ll be doing more shopping for you, because we just put up some beautiful things on the website for tonight’s Monday Update.

  • Malabrigo Worsted – 28 colors to choose from for sweaters, vests, hats and scarves. (Shown above in Nostalgia.)
  • Malabrigo Lace – 30 colors for your summerweight shawls and wraps.
  • Cascade 220 – the wall is filled up again. I love it when the 220 Wall is full.
  • Perfect Notions Cases – for your stitchmarkers, darning needles, little stitch counters, etc. I keep one in each knitting bag.
  • And at the end of last week (in time for our Cotton Challenge), we added in:
  • Namaste Bags – Messenger and Boardwalk (backpack) bags, and Buddy Cases

You’d think that all of those updates and re-stocks would last us a good long while, wouldn’t you? But the back stock room is filled up again with new boxes that arrived today, which we’ll work on for next Monday. Aren’t Mondays fun??

Now for the contest. The weather is getting warmer here and spring and summer are just around the corner. It makes me wonder – do you have a favorite season for knitting? Fall, when you’re thinking of holiday gifts? Winter, when it’s too cold outside to do anything else? Spring, when you’re dreaming of lightweight shawls? Summer, when it’s too hot and you are thinking about cool-weather wear? Or do you knit year-round pretty much the same amount? I knit the same amount year round, in all seasons. I can’t imagine cutting back! Leave your answer below and we’ll draw for $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates next week.

  1. I knit whenever I can no matter the season…although I seem to be in a more frenzied state as the holidays approach. It seems I usually plan too many projects as gifts than I have time to make!!! Come on…I can’t be the only one who does that!

  2. I knit every day all year long. My preference is to knit with wool, alpaca, or anything with some give because my hands give out with cotton or linen. But I live in South Texas so I cave in to the cooler yarns and TRY to pick my projects carefully.

  3. I knit year round, but get more knitting done in the summer since that’s when I start my Christmas knitting.

  4. The projects may change with the seasons – small portable ones like socks & afghan squares in the summer, heavier afghans and cozy shawls in winter – but I’m definitely a year-round knitter. The only time I don’t squeeze in at least a row or two is when I’m majorly sick, but only because I know I’d mess it up & have to fix it all once I’m feeling better.

  5. I knit when it is needed: it is a pleasurable manual encouragement to my systems:
tactile, rhythmic movement, that also produces something tangible – mostly socks – and is fun to look at because of the colours. It brings me in a neutral modus.

Autumn and winter are more favourable times to knit.

    Warm wishes,

    emmy.

  6. I’m a year round knitter, with only the type of projects changing with the season. Right now wool sock season is fading away while the summer shawls poke their heads out of the warming ground.

I’ve also been known to switch crafts, but knitting is my stable one.

  7. I knit year round, but I love winter, even though we had a pathetic excuse for winter this year in Missouri. I’d love to see more snow.

  8. I knit the same yarn and yardage year round. The projects might get a bit smaller in the heat of summer (until I turn on the air conditioner) but usually 5+ projects are on the needles at all times. I think I’d loose my sanity if I didn’t knit each day.

  9. Year-round, but it’s especially comforting in winter (when I need something warm on my lap) and summer (when the A/C is blasting … and I need something warm on my lap!)

  10. Most definitely year-round. I might do heavier items during the winter and lighter ones in summer. Socks and shawls are year-round.

  11. I knit year round. It is my stress relief!! If I don’t have at least 3 projects going I feel like I am missing Knitting calms me!

  12. I knit all the time. I keep a couple of knitting projects in the car, just in case I have some down time somewhere. I have easy projects that are good to take to meetings and difficult ones to do at home. I have projects upstairs and downstairs so I can just grab one and knit, whatever strikes my fancy. I have short projects and long projects because sometimes I just want to see the result and don’t want to wait years.

  13. I knit unless the sun is shining, and in Seattle it’s rare, so I guess you should say year round then.

  14. I knit year-round, but then again I live in Alaska where it’s pretty much knitted wear weather all year!

  15. I knit year round, the projects change with the season. Warmer weather is smaller lighter projects, fall and winter are for sweaters.

  16. year round but some more than others . right now I ‘m making a cowl , a baby wrap , a brioche tam ( black and white ) and I plan on making some socks but having a hard time finding the right pattern . 🙂

  17. I’m a year round knitter w/ no favorite time or season. As I am a “process” rather “product” knitter, I knit whatever whenever but almost always w/ wool. Thank you for the generous giveaway!

  18. I knit year round. Such a nice calm way to spend an afternoon or evening. I always have some small projects that are easily taken with me on the airplane or car trips. My larger projects tend to come in and out of hiding all year. I’ll have to make a trip to Ft Collins (from Lakewood CO) this summer to check out the shop.

  19. I knit year round, I like to have a sweater and one or 2 smaller projects on the needles at all time. If I had to slow down in warmer months I’d never get to use up all the yarn I buy!

  20. I have two little ones and the only “me” time I get is about an hour every night after they go to bed….. sometimes more, most of the time less – I can’t seem to keep my eyes open!

But I love all the seasons and my projects probably change with them. I’m into working on sweaters so we’ll see how well that lasts as it gets warmer.

  21. Something happens every year on Christmas, I always start wanting to kint something new. I never have the drive before the holiday when I might be making gifts, but exactly on the holiday, I am chomping at the bit for a new project. Maybe cause I don’t share my handknits that is my present to myself. Knitting is constant until late summer, then a slump.

  22. I do knit year round, but when the garden beckons, my knitting gets left in the house while I play in the dirt. So my most productive knitting time is late fall, winter and very early spring.

    Thanks!

  23. Knitting is a year round activity at my house. A lot of people I know don’t knit much in the summer – but I find that I may actually knit more because of vacations and car trips.

  24. I knit every single day! I get up at 4:00 a.m to knit and drink coffee before I have to get ready for work. Summer is my favorite season for knitting because I can sit outside in the fresh air and sunshine to do it.

  25. I knit all year every day….in the car…on a boat….at the beach…by the fire….just anytime.
It is my comfort zone….relaxes me after a tough day. I know have two beautiful granddaughters to knit for and enjoy all the sweater making….My mother told me that when I retire and grow old I will never be bored….I will always have my knitting.

  26. I’ve only been knitting for just over a full year now, but I noticed that my knitting took a nose dive during last summer. I picked up again around fall and have been doing it intensely since. Maybe for me, it’s not a function of temperature that affects my knitting – rather it’s based on the condition of my car & gas prices. If it’s unreliable (like it’s been since last fall) I’m more often at home and need to past the time (hence the intense bouts of knitting). So maybe I should instead of spending money on fixing my car, I’ll just buy more yarn ;).

  27. I love knitting in every season except Summer. Though Fall is probably the best — I start knitting and then have the whole fall/winter/spring to wear my knitted goodies!

  28. I knit every day – don’t care to stop, and wouldn’t know how to go about it! I love knitting with friends too. I live at the south end of the Denver metro area – haven’t made it to your shop yet, but my knitting peeps and I are going to come up now that the weather is warming – can’t wait to meet all of you and take a tour of the shop.

  29. I knit all year round, although, I think Fall (read: Christmas knitting and cooler weather) really gets me going. It’s kind of hard to stick with knitting during our good ol’ St. Louis summers. As long as I’m in a cool place, it works out 🙂

  30. I knit all year, but my knitting mojo really kicks in during the Fall. It’s something about the colors and the atmosphere.

  31. my favorite time to knit is the new year. after the holiday gift knitting panic, it’s wonderful to relax and knit whatever i want with no deadlines.

  32. I knit all year long. But, I’ll admit that fall and winter definitely are the best times to get in the knitting spirit.

  33. I like to knit all the time. Currently I am testing some patters for designers on Ravelry. New for me but it keeps me busy

  34. I like to knit in all seasons. What I knit changes with the weather. In the Fall and Winter I tend to knit heavier wool sweaters. In the spring and summer it will be more tops made of cotton and silk and blends. I even knit under the umbrella at the beach, but there it’s usually socks, of which I always have a pair underway!

  35. My favorite season for knitting is all of them! ;). Depending on the weather, I vary my projects to suit the temperature. There’s definitely no wrong time of year to knit.

  36. Knitting spans all the seasons. I knit in the spring during the planting and the lengthening days, and summer sitting out on the deck, and fall during football games (what better time to knit!) and in winter, when everything is winding down, the days are short and it’s so comforting to be inside. Knitting helps me wait patiently for whatever is going to happen next, through all the seasons throughout the year.

  37. I knit year round, several projects at a time. I get bored, so I rotate through projects. Camp Loopy was so much fun last summer. It has brought summer knitting to a whole new level.

  38. I knit all year round, but Summer is my favorite time to knit. I am off from school then, and road trips are great knitting time!

  39. Winter is an especially delightful time to knit…it’s cozy & relaxing & creative & beautiful…especially while watching the NFL or college hoops!
