Malabrigo, Cascade, and a CONTEST!

It has been a busy day (getting all of your Second Quarter Challenge orders out), so this is coming to you a little late in the day. When we pack up your orders, we always have fun talking about what you might be making (and hoping that you get it done so that you’ll submit a photo for us to see!) We love being a part of your shopping here, from me checking out your selections when I write on your orders, to the Elves pulling them and packing them up carefully. Thanks for letting us be your personal shoppers as we walk around the shop, filling up the order bin for you. We get to enjoy all of your yarn vicariously and then send it on its way to your house!

Tomorrow we’ll be doing more shopping for you, because we just put up some beautiful things on the website for tonight’s Monday Update.

  • Malabrigo Worsted – 28 colors to choose from for sweaters, vests, hats and scarves. (Shown above in Nostalgia.)
  • Malabrigo Lace – 30 colors for your summerweight shawls and wraps.
  • Cascade 220 – the wall is filled up again. I love it when the 220 Wall is full.
  • Perfect Notions Cases – for your stitchmarkers, darning needles, little stitch counters, etc. I keep one in each knitting bag.
  • And at the end of last week (in time for our Cotton Challenge), we added in:
  • Namaste Bags – Messenger and Boardwalk (backpack) bags, and Buddy Cases

You’d think that all of those updates and re-stocks would last us a good long while, wouldn’t you? But the back stock room is filled up again with new boxes that arrived today, which we’ll work on for next Monday. Aren’t Mondays fun??

Now for the contest. The weather is getting warmer here and spring and summer are just around the corner. It makes me wonder – do you have a favorite season for knitting? Fall, when you’re thinking of holiday gifts? Winter, when it’s too cold outside to do anything else? Spring, when you’re dreaming of lightweight shawls? Summer, when it’s too hot and you are thinking about cool-weather wear? Or do you knit year-round pretty much the same amount? I knit the same amount year round, in all seasons. I can’t imagine cutting back! Leave your answer below and we’ll draw for $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates next week.

  1. I knit the same year round, however I seem to always be a season behind when I finally finish something!

  2. I knit year round as it is my time to relax and lose the tension of the day. How else would we get all our UFOs done?

  3. I like knitting in the winter best – in front of the fire, curled up in my big recliner, with a glass of red wine.

  4. Summer! Wool! Southern California! Knitting in the car at lunch = 120 degrees! That’s how I like it, probably because it is the only time I knit that my hands aren’t cold.

  5. I would have said winter before Camp Loopy last summer! That was a blast and I’m so looking forward to camp again this year!!!

  6. I knit all year long, but I definitely have cycles. Lately I’ve been really tired and either unenthused or something, because I’m just not knitting as much as I would like. But the number of books I’ve been reading is really high!

  7. I knit year round!
But come spring, it does make me sad because it gets too warm in New Jersey to wear the things I’ve knit! I love fall and winter!

  8. I knit year round. I live at the NJ Shore (not in anyway shape or form like the TV show, ha ha.) and I will knit at the beach, but nothing too heavy.

  9. I love knitting in the winter all snuggled up in a blanket to keep warm with my knitting on my lap.I love spring, summer, and fall knitting outdoors on my back porch.

  10. I knit all year , I have lots of projects going, so I try to finish one anytime, but winter is probably my favorite time to knit.

  11. I knit year round, but I love the cold house bound afternoons in winter curled up with a cup of tea and my knitting. Perfect.

  12. I love to knit (and now crochet) every day! My favorite times to knit are when someone I know is pregnant-I put a lot of love and tender care into knitting a blanket for each person. Doing this gives the recipient something they will cherish and lets me give virtual hugs to the little ones no matter how far away they are!

  13. I pretty much knit year round, but I think I am the most productive during the fall and winter- the cold is a good motivator!

  14. The easier question would be what season do you not like to knit in….but then, I can’t think of an answer to that one either. If I can breathe, I can knit…lol

  15. I love knitting every day 🙂 Any time, any where. If I am to knit everything in my never-ending queue, the knitting never ceases!

  16. Knitting is my elixir, it smooths my rough edges of the day..so I am a all year knitter. Took me a little while to adjust to AZ and the heat, after Northern Calif….but I did it.and continue to knit on!

  17. Every season is knitting time. In the winter I love the warmth of good wool on my lap, so I do more blankie knitting. In the warmer weather I make smaller projects, mittens, socks etc. A day without knitting, not in my vocabulary.

  18. I love knitting all year around, but I always get most excited about the first signs of fall and knowing that Fall/Winter are on their way!!

  19. I like to knit year round, but my favorite time is fall/winter. It is just more relaxing when I can snuggle under a blanket on the couch with my dog in front of a blazing fire! 🙂

  20. I knit in every season. The projects may change a little, the yarn may vary, but the knitting continues.

  21. Year round! I am rather obsessed. There is a small fall off during summer, because I live where it is hot and humid, but I am learning to counter that with small projects.

  22. I totally agree with Katrina – and the others – I feel like something is missing if I don’t knit for at least 10 minutes in any day. Of course, the longer I knit, the happier I am!! With so many fibers to choose from knitting in summer is easy. If all else fails, and you have to be working on a bulky wool heavy sweater project, find an air conditioned room!!

  23. I knit all year round, but fall is definitely when I’m most motivated to do so. Since you can start to feel the chill in the air, I start dreaming of new handknits.

Though this winter has been so short I’ve barely broken out the heavy duty handknits.

  24. I enjoy knitting so much that I would like to knit year round. However, I am in school and have to wait for breaks. Darn!

  25. I love to knit outside in the spring and the fall. Best was knitting on a friend’s porch in Asheville looking at the Fall leaves, and also attending SAFF.

  26. I’m an all season gal, but fall is when I get most excited about it. Summer in the NYC metro area often makes it unthinkable to knit with worsted (or heavier) yarns, so by the time fall rolls around, it’s sort of thrilling to pick up the heavy yarns again.

  27. I knit year round, but my favorite time is the fall when the first chill is in the air and I start thinking about gift knitting. So many possibilities!

  28. I’m pretty much a year round knitter, although it is especially nice to knit outdoors on the patio in summer. It’s also really cozy to knit inside on a cold winter night.

  29. I have four favorite knitting seasons.
Winter with a beeswax candle lit and a glass of wine.
Spring with fresh squeezed orang juice and a boquet of bulb flowers ont he table.
Summer with lemonade and my hanging garden on the porch – knitting socks because they don’t make me hotter.
Fall with hot apple cider or brandy and applesauce cooking in the oven,

  30. I just love to knit in the cool seasons. Winter afternoons in my knitting chair, my red shawl on my shoulders, my cat on the footstool, and socks on my needles. There is nothing more blissful.

  31. I knit all year around although probably more socks when its hot, and heavier shawls in the fall. I love to knit outside on my covered deck when the weather is nice or inside near a fire in the pellet stove when the weather is cold.

  32. I knit all year long, I find things I want to knit no matter what the season is. A day without knitting is like a day without food, got to have it!

  33. I knit on any day that ends in a “Y”.:) I just change what I’m knitting to keep ahead of the coming season’s needs. Right now there are 2 summer weight projects on needles. Then comes socks and light weight shawls. I’m already planning for next years sweaters..

  34. i knit all year long, but for some reason winter is my favorite season to knit.

fall is my favorite season to spin… something about the changing colors and cooler evenings… and fiber festivals…

  35. I knit all year round. In the winter, it’s usually sweaters or hats and socks. In the summer, I start Christmas knitting. Some years, it’s socks. Other years, it’s hats. Not sure what it will be this year. Scarves?

  36. When I first read your question I was like I knit the same things year round how could I pick a favorite time of year. But then I got to pondering. Possibly spring might be my favorite. It’s just cool enough that if I’m racing to finish a big heavy winteresque project I can talk it outside and not broil while knitting. At the same time if I’m working a light anti-air conditioner shawl for summer I won’t freeze. Plus it’s so nice to be outside thinking about the garden and what I want to plant where and future knitting of course.
