Ongoing Project List … and a CONTEST!

DSC02991.JPGIt’s time to update my lists. I keep adding projects. It’s not my fault. I have to walk by shelves and shelves of yarn every single day at work. It’s a job hazard. But I decided something. There are some single socks that are going to stay single socks for a long time. That’s just the way it is. I like having them up on display and if I make the match to it, I’ll just have to knit another single for the wall. That’s my theory. But there ARE some socks that I want to wear instead of having on the wall, so those are on my list.

Do you keep a list of ongoing projects or “soon to knit” projects? And do you update it? Mine looks like this:

DSC02520Need to Finish – in no particular order:
1. Malabrigo Silky Merino Green Grey scarf
2. Shibui Knits Ivory Cable Rib Wrap
3. Schaefer Anne Girasole shawl
4. Noro Silk Garden Worsted sweater (just one sleeve left – come ON!)
5. Zoe Cardi in Universal Cotton Supreme (worked on it all weekend. Still not done.)
6. My Sunshine Socks in Lorna’s Laces Butterscotch.
7. Froot Loops in Spud and Chloe Fine. (I initially typed Froot Loopy – my fingers work independent of my brain sometimes and I think I’ve typed out “loopy” too many times…)
8. My second sock in The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga. (we have more of this yarn going up next week – another big order for you!)

Need to knit: 4 different yarn lines that I’m contemplating adding in at the moment.

Want to start, not necessarily in this order:
1. Tesni Shawl in …. undecided. Maybe the new Cascade Eco Duo?
2. Seaside Shawlette in one of our new Loopy Line colors (coming in June!)
3. Clothilde in a gorgeous skein of handspun that Lynn from Denver gifted to me at the Fling. (And she is the best spinner I know. I am tempted to just save that handspun skein and put it on a pedestal, but she made me promise to use it, so I will.)
4. Ishbel in Blue Sky Alpaca Silk.

(Please note that anyone with 8 things on the *To Finish* list and 4 things on the *Need to Knit* list, has no business coming up with a *Want to Start* list. I know.)

And this is why the quote above the Cascade 220 Wall is so appropriate for me. You, too?

Here’s the blog question for you to answer in the comments (to be entered into the contest. Prize? Wollmeise. Awarded? Next Monday.) When do you do most of your knitting? For me, I knit more on the weekends than at any point during the week. I’d probably double my output if I could find more time in the evenings to knit.

Just in case you need to add to your *Want to Knit* list, tonight’s update included: Cascade Eco Duo (new!) and 5 new Eco Alpaca Twist colors, new Cascade Heritage Solid colors, 8 more coloways in Madelinetosh Vintage (including Tart – your favorite), Sajou Scissor re-stocks, Dream in Color Smooshy re-stocks, HiyaHiya needle re-stocks, as well as more of those cute Puppy Snips, Needle Gauges, and Interchangeable sets, and finally, a re-stock of Marie Mayhew patterns, including a new Woolly Sheep and a new Woolly Sheep Kit. Β Enjoy!

  1. Before my recent life style change, I used to get most of my knitting done during my train commute to and from work. Now, however, we now live in the country and I run a doggie pet resort. So while my furry guest are napping between noon and 4 pm I get all my fiber addictions taken care of. If it’s sunny I sit outside and watch the dogs play while I knit.

  2. I do most of my knitting in the evening. I knit during many of my evening hanging-out-based activities (fiction writing group, role playing games) and any time I’m watching TV or listening to podcasts/audiobooks/music. I’m a fidgeter–if I don’t have knitting, I’ll end up doodling, tapping my fingers, or totally tuning out and thinking about more interesting things.

  3. I like to read and knit. I knit mostly in the evenings after dinner, but hardly ever on weekends. My more complex knitting projects tend to take quite a while, because of the reading. Occasionally I knit while I am waiting around, but I prefer to knit at home.

  4. I knit whenever I can find time and a spot. I never leave home without a project. Usually a brainless one. I have been known to knit at stop lights, or in traffic….don’t worry stopped traffic. My serious lace knitting is done every evening to relax from a busy work day…I leave everything behind except my pattern, my sticks and my yarn..

  5. The majority of my knitting happens in the evening, while watching TV.

But I also knit on the bus, while waiting for the doctor/dentist/whatever, and in the car when I go somewhere with my daughter.

  6. Knitting is my therapy. I knit every evening from the time I sit down to relax after dinner until bed time. I can’t image watching tv or a movie without knitting – it’s too boring otherwise. On the weekends I knit on and off all day and evening, car rides. Love spending time planning the next project or so while working on the current one. My daughter, 17, also loves to knit so I treasure the times when we chat it up while knitting.

Knitting happiness from the San Francisco Bay Area!

  7. I get most of my knitting done as I wait for my son to have his horseback riding lesson or work with the FFA kids on the antique tractor they are restoring. I sit in McDonald’s and knit, in my car and knit, at the park and knit, etc. I love how fascinated people are by socks with 5 dpns! πŸ™‚ I also knit during my lunch period at work most days.

  8. I love to knit anytime, but mostly at night when I’m trying to relax. I’ve had bad arm for awhile so I’m kinda slow at knitting right now.

  9. When I get home from work I kick off my shoes, take of my bra, pour a glass of wine and park myself on the sofa for the evening with my knitting and a cat or two.

  10. I knit anywhere I can, In the car, on the floor at home with my girls 4 and 8mos,I knitted at work on knit night ( our bimonthly knitting class)and at seminars and lecture.

  11. I do most of my knitting in the evenings after my children are in bed. I also knit in the afternoons, after they are up from nap/home from school and before I have to start dinner. I love to knit in the car if my husband is driving too!

  12. I wish I had long periods to just knit … but in reality it gets done at red lights, in carpool lines, poolside at the kids’ swim practice, during meetings at work and the sermon in church! (That is probably why I have so many finished socks and UNfinished sweaters πŸ™‚

  13. I do most of my knitting in the evenings after work. I am so jealous of those that can take their knitting into meetinsg and such. Not me – corporate world for me. Sigh.

  14. I do a lot in the car. I can’t read in the car but can knit. It makes a long trip so much shorter.
I also knit while I watch TV.

  15. I do most of my knitting in the evenings between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM. Some nights it’s only for an hour before I’m too tired to see my needles, but there are also nights where I’ve stayed up until 4:00 AM because I am loving the yarn or pattern enough that I haven’t allowed myself to get tired. I also knit during spare moments during the day or when I’m nursing my daughter- who is already a little yarn lover and loves to twist her fingers through the yarn as I knit.

  16. I tend to knit most at night. However, while the quarter is going on, i knit while on bart & the bus on the way to campus. If i didn’t, i don’t think id be able to knit at all! heaven forbid that should ever happen!

  17. I knit evenings (when I can keep my eyes open)…and weekends. I tend to have 1 or 2 projects at a time going ~~ in the event one needs a “rest” for a while (LOL) πŸ™‚

  18. Hi,
I love your store and blog. Please enter me in the contest, I’ll keep my fingers crossed! I do most of my knitting in the evenings, I usually knit about an hour or so in the evenings.

  19. On the train. I used to HATE my hour long train ride until i got smart enough to bring my knitting along. I do have to keep the project size smallish, but i kill a lot lof socks – first and second – this way.

  20. I tend to get much more knitting done on the weekends (in order to avoid the household chores I don’t get done during the week). Often it is movie marathons and knitting. I always have more than one project on needles – just can’t do the monogamous thing (in knitting that is) πŸ™‚

  21. I do most of my knitting either at night while watching TV, or waiting for my little charges (I am a nanny for 4 little boys) while they are in tae kwon do class, tutoring, appointments, at the park, etc.

  22. My favorite time to knit is in the morning before the kids get up. It’s all over once their up. If it’s raining that’s an added bonus. Love listen to the rain while knitting!

  23. I knit mostly at night or on weekends. Sometimes I will knit at work on my lunch break, after eating, I certainly never miss a meal. LOL

  24. I do most of my knitting in the summer. I’m a college student so that’s when I have the most time to start and finish projects.

  25. I do most of my knitting in the evenings, Monday thru Friday, once I get home from work.

  26. At night, while hanging out with 3 dogs and the husband. No knitting in the morning for me – I’d be frogging all the time. πŸ™‚

  27. I knit anywhere, any time, but I *always* knit when I’m on public transit, so I guess I think of that as my ‘prime knitting time’.

  28. Hi:

I do most of my knitting in the recliner at night watching reruns of NCIS. My husband is always asking me if I am suction to the chair.

I also have a 45 minutes ride to and from work. (My husband drives me) I try to knit a little both ways. Sometimes that is scary because of horrible drivers. One morning we did get rearended and that was scary because I didn’t see it coming.

  29. I do most of my knitting when I should be doing something else, like homework. This typically occurs 10-midnight, but sometimes 6-10 when a bunch of my friends are hanging out for dinner.

  30. I knit while watching TV with my family in the evenings. And at meetings (I go to a lot of meetings!). And a huge amount of knitting gets done at my son’s swim meets. Swim meets are the reason I started knitting- I was feeling this huge time suck with nothing to show for it. If you’ve ever been to a swim meet you’ll know what I mean! But now I want to knit all the time…..

  31. I carry a small project with me all the time “just in case”. You can knit a lot in the ER, especially if you aren’t the patient. I never know when I am going to need to take my silly husband to the hospital for a car accident, or if he has his toe nail pop off from playing beach volleyball, or needs a staple removed from his finger (which was also attached to a 50 page report). Good knitting time…

  32. I try to knit a little every night before bed, and if I can I knit all evening in front of the TV. Car rides are also good knitting times as well as waiting at the Dr. Office.

  33. I knit every Monday night with a great group of ladies at a local pub. (Yes, we do knit). Other than that, I try to knit a little while 2 to 3 nights before bed.

  34. I knit in the evenings a few times a week after the youngin is put to bed, unless she requests that I lay down with her and sometimes that means I fall asleep, too! On the weekend, I try to find one to two hours of quiet time to knit. That can be challenging!

  35. I do the majority of my knitting on the weekends, with a few rows thrown in in the evenings and during my lunch hour. It’s just not as much as I would like!

  36. I usually knit in the evenings, but sometimes fall asleep before I can get more than a couple of rows finished.

  37. I do most of my knitting on Wednesdays. We get together for coffee and knitting in the morning and dinner and a knit together in the evening. Gotta love Wednesdays!

  38. Hi, I usually get most of my knitting done on the weekends though I try to sneak in some time in the evenings and during my lunch break at work…I always have my knitting with me. πŸ™‚

  39. Mostly in the evenings in front of the tv or an audio book, but I love to knit in the car (thank you, Sue).

  40. I do most of my knitting in the evening after the baby is asleep in the crib and right before I fall asleep. It’s my unwind time. Sometimes, it’s 10 minutes, sometimes it’s an hour!

  41. It feels like most of my knitting is done on the light rail train to and from work. Since I work from home two days a week, of course this can’t be possible! Or maybe that’s why I always take so long to finish anything? I also knit watching television, and over the last couple of months I figured out that, when my husband is driving, I have all kinds of knitting time wherever we go – we’re just over 9 miles from anything, so it’s always a trip.

  42. I do most of my knitting when I am waiting. My husband was in the hospital a few times this past year and I don’t know what I would have done without a project to keep me busy whjile he was in the OR.( He is OK now, thank GOD!} I also knit while waiting for the schoolbus…waiting in the airport…and once while waiting for tickets to see Jersey Boys! I also knit while I watch TV.

  43. I’m retired and knit all the time. That being said, my favorite time to knit is late at night when the house is quiet. It reminds me of when my children were babies and I would wake up in the middle of the night to feed them. I know everyone remembers the feelings of rocking the sleeping baby and just enjoying the closeness. The late night knitting reminds me of that. It’s special

  44. I’m an evening knitter too, for the most part. I tend to sneak in daytime when able, tho. I like to watch a movie or read a book while knitting, and usually take the knitting and a book to bed for awhile, before turning out the light.
