Ongoing Project List … and a CONTEST!

DSC02991.JPGIt’s time to update my lists. I keep adding projects. It’s not my fault. I have to walk by shelves and shelves of yarn every single day at work. It’s a job hazard. But I decided something. There are some single socks that are going to stay single socks for a long time. That’s just the way it is. I like having them up on display and if I make the match to it, I’ll just have to knit another single for the wall. That’s my theory. But there ARE some socks that I want to wear instead of having on the wall, so those are on my list.

Do you keep a list of ongoing projects or “soon to knit” projects? And do you update it? Mine looks like this:

DSC02520Need to Finish – in no particular order:
1. Malabrigo Silky Merino Green Grey scarf
2. Shibui Knits Ivory Cable Rib Wrap
3. Schaefer Anne Girasole shawl
4. Noro Silk Garden Worsted sweater (just one sleeve left – come ON!)
5. Zoe Cardi in Universal Cotton Supreme (worked on it all weekend. Still not done.)
6. My Sunshine Socks in Lorna’s Laces Butterscotch.
7. Froot Loops in Spud and Chloe Fine. (I initially typed Froot Loopy – my fingers work independent of my brain sometimes and I think I’ve typed out “loopy” too many times…)
8. My second sock in The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga. (we have more of this yarn going up next week – another big order for you!)

Need to knit: 4 different yarn lines that I’m contemplating adding in at the moment.

Want to start, not necessarily in this order:
1. Tesni Shawl in …. undecided. Maybe the new Cascade Eco Duo?
2. Seaside Shawlette in one of our new Loopy Line colors (coming in June!)
3. Clothilde in a gorgeous skein of handspun that Lynn from Denver gifted to me at the Fling. (And she is the best spinner I know. I am tempted to just save that handspun skein and put it on a pedestal, but she made me promise to use it, so I will.)
4. Ishbel in Blue Sky Alpaca Silk.

(Please note that anyone with 8 things on the *To Finish* list and 4 things on the *Need to Knit* list, has no business coming up with a *Want to Start* list. I know.)

And this is why the quote above the Cascade 220 Wall is so appropriate for me. You, too?

Here’s the blog question for you to answer in the comments (to be entered into the contest. Prize? Wollmeise. Awarded? Next Monday.) When do you do most of your knitting? For me, I knit more on the weekends than at any point during the week. I’d probably double my output if I could find more time in the evenings to knit.

Just in case you need to add to your *Want to Knit* list, tonight’s update included: Cascade Eco Duo (new!) and 5 new Eco Alpaca Twist colors, new Cascade Heritage Solid colors, 8 more coloways in Madelinetosh Vintage (including Tart – your favorite), Sajou Scissor re-stocks, Dream in Color Smooshy re-stocks, HiyaHiya needle re-stocks, as well as more of those cute Puppy Snips, Needle Gauges, and Interchangeable sets, and finally, a re-stock of Marie Mayhew patterns, including a new Woolly Sheep and a new Woolly Sheep Kit.  Enjoy!

  1. I knit on the bus to and fro work. Have recruited more people too! And I knit any evening I’m home watching tv.

  2. I knit as much as possible during the weekends. Luckily, I have a WH (like you) who doesn’t mind my obsessive knitting from Friday night to Sunday night.

  3. I knit and crochet whenever I can find the time. Usually in the car, constantly if my husband is driving, at the red lights if I’m driving. I know that sounds terrible, but it saved my life once. I was at a light, knitting away and had messed up a stitch. the light had turned green and I was the first car to go, I delayed a few seconds to carefully put down my knitting, (thank God), because someone ran the red light and turned in front of the group of cars I was in. It was a near miss for the car to the right of me who went as soon as the light turned green, since I was next to him and had gone, the bad driver would have ran right into my car, driver’s side door.

Other times I knit/crochet? During my lunch hour and in the evenings when the kids have gone to bed or are watching a movie.

  4. I knit in the evenings to relax myself after a hectic day. Weekends are reserved for reading except in the evening when yes, I am once more knitting up a storm. I am trying to complete all my UFO’s before the summer.

  5. I knit whenever I can, early in the morning when I am the first one up, whenever I am a passenger in any car, and in the evening during TV time. I knit for the true joy of it.

  6. I always have a portable project that goes back and forth tow work with me for working on during lunch hour.. then I keep it in my car in case I wind up at an appointment and I have to wait..
At home, in the evenings after work, bigger projects that are not so portable..
On Sundays, when I am relaxing before the work week…

  7. I knit on the my morning and evening train commute. Then on weekends at the kids tae kwon do lessons. In the evenings after dinner, while watching tv. At lunch. While riding in the car on weekends, running errands. Pretty much every spare second…

  8. I have two little boys, so most of my knitting is done Tuesday nights at the yarn shop. I often knit during their nap as well, 2-4 pm.

  9. I do the most knitting on weeknights from 8-10 pm… sometimes I knit on the weekends but it depends on what I’m doing.

  10. Weekend and esp. evenings. It picks up during the week though during the summer when I’m out of school.

  11. I knit during my lunch break at work and do some knitting in the evenings when I’m not working my second job. I bring my knitting with me where ever I go in case I get a few moments to knit.

  12. I often knit right after work. I like to sit on my couch in the sunroom and knit for 45 minutes or so. Then I often knit in bed for an hour or so before turning off the light.

  13. In the afternoon, during nap time. And sometimes in the evening after the kids are in bed. But I’m usually so tired I just go to bed myself!

  14. I do most of my knitting on my lunch break and in the car, when my husband and i are drivng around together, and since one of our cars broke down, my husband has been kind enought to do most of the driving so that I can atttmpt to actually finsh some of my projects, and yes, I have a list!

  15. I knit on the bus back and forth to work (a good 30-45 min. each way) Mostly socks. And on the weekend I tackle more complicated projects that require paying attention to a pattern or chart.

  16. I do most of my knitting in the evenings, and I also try to reserve Sunday afternoons for knitting. Of course it’s always nice to be able to sneak in a little knitting time in the mornings, but that’s kind of rare.

  17. I knit on the train, because it makes me feel at home and doing something useful.

And I knit just before I go to sleep to give me this fine feeling of touching the yarn.

For the rest:in between these two if and when I can, to be in a meditative mode.

  18. I do a lot of knitting – but most productive time is during my time on the train during my commute which is about 2.5 hours a day!

  19. I knit mostly in the evenings after the children are in bed and I can sit quietly. I always take knitting with me everywhere I go in case I have to wait in line somewhere. Never pass the opportunity to get in a row!

  20. I do most of my knitting during Yankee games (if it’s the Yankees v Red Sox, it must be knitting that requires no thinking) and during UCONN football games or NY Giants football games. It calms my nerves to knit while my favorite teams are out on the field of battle.

  21. I knit in the evenings at home while watching movies or sitting in the backyard, on rainy weekend afternoons, or sometimes out at the bar or over drinks with friends. And when I get the chance, I love to knit on road trips while my boyfriends drives!

  22. I do most of my knitting in the evenings watching TV. Unless I am sick (like this week) and then I just knit all day. I’m hoping that lots of knitting will help the sore throat.

As for Lost – we watched it until we discovered that they *do* get off the island. After that, I no longer cared how or why they chose to return. They got off and what happened after that is their own business.

  23. During the workweek, I knit as soon as I get home and up until bedtime (and sometimes beyond!). I hang out with the family and watch tv while I knit, which is a great way to get more done. On the weekends, I can be found knitting any time of day or night. Pretty much as long as I’m awake and the household chores are done, I’m knitting. ^_^

  24. I knit in the evenings, generally once the kids are in bed. Without pesky housework and cooking I’d get more done. Oh, and visits to the doctor’s office or taking the car in for service are also good opportunities for knitting. Knitting helps to calm and center me in the evenings & makes it possible to sit through long waits with very little impatience.

  25. Most of my knitting is done in front of the TV, watching old movies in “my rocker” in my knitting corner. I’m surrounded by needles, rulers, scissors, markers, etc. Nearly every night you will find me there.

  26. Evenings. I’m not wild about watching TV, so it’s a way to be sociable with my husband without having to pay too much attention to the TV! I’m still new enough at knitting that it takes most of my concentration!

  27. In the evening, sitting next to dh. I stay home all day and thats when i clean, take care of animals etc. So all evening is quiet time, and knitting.

  28. I knit on my lunch break/hour/2hours and then always always in the evening. I travel alot for work so I always have a pair of socks on a needle so I can mindless knit. What a joy to have needles in hand! I am truly addicted-

  29. I do most of my knitting in the evenings after work. I get a little done on the weekends, but I’m usually pretty busy on Saturdays and Sundays, so I don’t get to do as much knitting then as I’d like!

  30. I knit most often in the evenings while watching a few of my favorite shows. This is sometimes a bit tricky, especially if it’s a really interesting show, I have to be doubly careful not to make silly mistakes. I do knit in the daytime as well, but usually only on the weekends for some reason…come to think of it, I don’t know why that is, LOL.

  31. I knit during every opportunity I can find! The weekends allow for the largest blocks of continuous knitting time but I also enjoy knitting for a few hours in the evening if I can squeeze it in (or until my eyes won’t stay open). Lately I’ve discovered that a few of my monthly meetings are conducive to knitting and look forward to the excuse to knit during the work day.

  32. I do most of my knitting while I’m waiting for someone–in the car, waiting for someone to get out of school, at the pool during swim practice. The day I discovered sock-knitting was a good, good day!

  33. I knit whenever I can squeeze in time. During the day while my kids are busy playing/napping. I knit while they bathe, and at night after they go to sleep. I knit at doc offices, on my breaks at work and even while I surf the web (thanks slow dialup!). My favorite thing to do while knitting is watching tv, I can get alot done during one of my fave shows.

  34. I’m a new knitter just starting out – made 2 dish cloths to remember how to knit. Now I’m tackling 2 socks at a time on circular needle using Oakes Twilight pattern. I haven’t gotten very far – the first effort was attempted with too heavy yarn and I had to ditch it for sock weight, but I’m determined to get this going. Using Magic Loop and a pretty varigated sock yarn from Patons. Mostly, I knit when I’m in the passenger seat on trips or when I go to meet ups and friend groups. LOVE my in person events. Also, there is a LYS that has open knit on Tues/Thurs nights – I’ve gone to one of them. Since I’m currently addicted to my laptop after work hours, I don’t get much else done in the evenings… will have to find a rhythm and get going on a regular basis. Enjoying this new community of knit friends and podcasts so very much!

  35. I actually knit on and off all day, every day. In fact, if I can’t get to my knitting in a day, I get quite cranky LOL But I guess I’d really say I knit mostly mid-afternoon, when the light in my living room is bright — never thought I’d enjoy sitting in that room so much!

and thanks, as usual, for your contest!

  36. I knit mostly at night. I suddenly feel like I’m making such good progress that I can’t stop right around the time I should be going to sleep.

  37. At the moment, I’m doing most of my knitting whilst on the treadmill, walking at at 3.5 mph pace at an incline of 6-8 for about 45 minutes. I admit it is very hard to concentrate on the twisted stitch pattern that I’m knitting on the reverse side using the Portuguese method on size 1 needles, and I do finally have to stop when my hands get too sweaty, but it seems to be the only way to get both my knitting and my exercise into my day. I’m knitting 2 socks at a time on 2 x 24″ circular needles. You’d think I would be making a lot of progress since 45 minutes seems like quite a decent stretch of time, but I’m only able to knit 4 or 5 rounds in the time.

  38. I knit mostly in the evenings, after the kids go to bed, usually while a baseball game or some brain candy television is on.

  39. I knit when I have the chance – usually in the late afternoon and evening – in restaurants, at lectures.
Thought I’d have more time now that I’m retired. Funny how that doesn’t happen! ;o)
