It’s time to update my lists. I keep adding projects. It’s not my fault. I have to walk by shelves and shelves of yarn every single day at work. It’s a job hazard. But I decided something. There are some single socks that are going to stay single socks for a long time. That’s just the way it is. I like having them up on display and if I make the match to it, I’ll just have to knit another single for the wall. That’s my theory. But there ARE some socks that I want to wear instead of having on the wall, so those are on my list.
Do you keep a list of ongoing projects or “soon to knit” projects? And do you update it? Mine looks like this:
Need to Finish – in no particular order:
1. Malabrigo Silky Merino Green Grey scarf
2. Shibui Knits Ivory Cable Rib Wrap
3. Schaefer Anne Girasole shawl
4. Noro Silk Garden Worsted sweater (just one sleeve left – come ON!)
5. Zoe Cardi in Universal Cotton Supreme (worked on it all weekend. Still not done.)
6. My Sunshine Socks in Lorna’s Laces Butterscotch.
7. Froot Loops in Spud and Chloe Fine. (I initially typed Froot Loopy – my fingers work independent of my brain sometimes and I think I’ve typed out “loopy” too many times…)
8. My second sock in The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga. (we have more of this yarn going up next week – another big order for you!)
Need to knit: 4 different yarn lines that I’m contemplating adding in at the moment.
Want to start, not necessarily in this order:
1. Tesni Shawl in …. undecided. Maybe the new Cascade Eco Duo?
2. Seaside Shawlette in one of our new Loopy Line colors (coming in June!)
3. Clothilde in a gorgeous skein of handspun that Lynn from Denver gifted to me at the Fling. (And she is the best spinner I know. I am tempted to just save that handspun skein and put it on a pedestal, but she made me promise to use it, so I will.)
4. Ishbel in Blue Sky Alpaca Silk.
(Please note that anyone with 8 things on the *To Finish* list and 4 things on the *Need to Knit* list, has no business coming up with a *Want to Start* list. I know.)
And this is why the quote above the Cascade 220 Wall is so appropriate for me. You, too?
Here’s the blog question for you to answer in the comments (to be entered into the contest. Prize? Wollmeise. Awarded? Next Monday.) When do you do most of your knitting? For me, I knit more on the weekends than at any point during the week. I’d probably double my output if I could find more time in the evenings to knit.
Just in case you need to add to your *Want to Knit* list, tonight’s update included: Cascade Eco Duo (new!) and 5 new Eco Alpaca Twist colors, new Cascade Heritage Solid colors, 8 more coloways in Madelinetosh Vintage (including Tart – your favorite), Sajou Scissor re-stocks, Dream in Color Smooshy re-stocks, HiyaHiya needle re-stocks, as well as more of those cute Puppy Snips, Needle Gauges, and Interchangeable sets, and finally, a re-stock of Marie Mayhew patterns, including a new Woolly Sheep and a new Woolly Sheep Kit. Enjoy!

I’m self-employed, so I knit whenever I get bored with the project I’m working on. I also knit in the evening, while watching a movie or something silly on hulu.
I knit whenever I have to wait. That can be during meetings, kids ball games, or while homeschooling the boys. Some days this can be a lot of time and others not enough for all I want to accomplish.
I do most of my knitting at night while watching TV or on Fridays, which is the designated “Knit with Grammy” time in my house.
Weekends for sure. I can usually get in maybe an hour in the evenings during the work week. But on the weekends I can really crank out the knitting.
I knit or crochet mostly in the evenings while watching TV, if I can.
I knit while waiting for my kids at appointments, dance class, soccer, basketball. I also knit at their games and I even knit on the bus for my daughter’s field trip. All the kids were strapped in and safe so I took out my travelling scarf and did a few rows on the way to a museum.
I definitely get the most knitting done on the weekend, but I can generally fit in an hour or so on weeknight evenings after dinner and before bed, while watching tv. If I could squeeze in an extra hour somewhere every day, I’m convinced my quality of life would triple!
I knit it little spaces of time that would otherwise be wasted — dr. & dental waiting rooms, in the car, in the restaurant before the food comes, at my daughter’s band concert when they are setting up, on the metro, at red lights…
I knit when my hubby is watching baseball. Together time – both of us happy! (Somehow I’ve picked up the intracies of the sport, yet he hasn’t picked up needles…. hmmmm) ( :
Love your blog, your shop, your yarn!
I knit when I get a chance. I have knitted in the car, in the bathroom when I was stick in there for awhile, I knit at the doctor office, I knit at long stop lights as long as it is just straight knitting, be surprised the looks you get plus how much you can get done. I don’t have a set time to knit just when I get a chance all year round.
I have way to many projects started and even a few more that I have to start.
I try to squeeze in a little knitting a bunch of times each day (and of course I get a little more time on weekends too) I usually knit on by breaks at work as a bit of stress relief/diversion and I also knit on the commute home from work while my husband drives. It’s amazing how much I can get done on 2 x 15 minute breaks and an hour’s commute home each day… let alone when I get to sit and watch tv in the evening!
I do most of my knitting in the evening. When I get started I have a hard time stopping. I set goals according to how long my shows are and try to match or beat the goal.
While my twins take a nap!
I’m a mother of three and a full time (online) student, so I am usually knitting while doing something else. What I found this year was that knitting helps me hugely with my math classes. While watching the math videos for both my algebra and statistics courses, I found that they were so hard for me to understand that my eyes were glazing over and I was starting to doze and miss everything. However, if I watched them while knitting, I was much better able to stay awake and concentrate on the videos. As a result, after playing them over and over (and over!) they started to sink in! For me this is unbelievable – I’ve never done well in math before, and it’s what kept me from going back to college in the first place.
So, not only did knitting help me focus well enough to pass those classes, but I did well enough to get A’s in both of them. Add that to the A’s I got in my other classes, and I can thank knitting directly for my 4.0 GPA and the part-tuition merit scholarship I won this year. Thanks knitting – you got me through math!
I knit at night while watching TV… but also get quite a bit done during meetings at work. I telecommute full-time and take meetings on the phone. If I don’t know I end up working during the meetings and miss the entire thing! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
I do most of my knitting in the evenings. I’m home from work by 4:30, so I can sit and knit until dinner time. It’s a great way to relax after work, and it gives me something to look forward to each day.
I knit in the mornings before work from 6:00 – 6:35 as my hair dries. I watch the morning news at this time also. Then it is time to get ready for the day. You would be surprised how much I can get done five days a week in the peace and quiet of the early morning with just the “boys” (dogs) to keep my company.
I do most of my knitting in the evenings while watching TV. I try to get some knitting in during lunch at work, but the bulk of the knitting is in my chair in the living room.
I knit at soccer games. My DS is the goalie, and if I knit I don’t worry so much about him getting hurt!
I do my knitting mostly in the evenings, later after my son is asleep, which accounts for a lot of mistakes because I am tired by then…and then the weekend is when I get the most done! I try to do a little every day but that doesn’t always work out unfortunately 🙂
I do knit more on the weekends but I knit most evenings. Summer is great time to knit watching baseball games.
I do most of my knitting on the weekend mornings and on occasional weeknights. I love summer because I work in a school and have lots of time off. So I have movie marathons (“Firefly”, “Muppets”, “Babylon 5”, chick flicks) and knit for hours! I can’t wait!
I knit whenever I slow down — mostly at night in front of the TV shows I do watch, and in all kinds of offices when I am waiting (makes the wait bearable) so somewhere, somehow, everyday!
I do most of my knitting on my commuter bus. I have about 40 minutes in the morning and 45 in the evening of free time on the ride.
I am mostly a weekend knitter, although I try to squeeze in a few rows each day. That “daily dose of fiber” keeps my spirits up and brain clear.
I like to knit most when I watch the news in the evening. I never like to just sit idly and do nothing,
evenings, weekends are too full of spinning and weaving
I do most of my knitting while watching television. I need something to do with my hands. I can’t stand to just sit there. I like to have an easy and portable project to knit while waiting, at the doctor etc… I try to have at least one already bagged up and ready to go. I knit while my grandchildren nap. I also knit during down time at work. I wish I could knit during lectures. presentations, etc… I concentrate better when I knit but have not found a way to do that where it does not seem rude.
When I’m sick. Or at a softball game, or soccer game or watching Tae Kwon Do. Or sick at a softball game, soccer game or Tae Kwon Do.
I have 2 small children that don’t require a lot of sleep so I mostly knit at red lights (I promise only when the car is stopped!) and breaks at work. I day dream of going to the nice quiet library and knitting! : )
I’m retired, so I knit whenever I want. I’m so lucky… Now if I just lived closer to the Loopy Ewe.
I do most of my knitting at night to try and calm me down. I usually have 3-4 different items on the needles – 1 very simple, 1 average and one difficult so depending on my mood and my day I always have something I can pick up and work on.
Evenings and weekends.
On the weekends and in the evenings…therapy.
I have a 2 year old so I knit at the crack of dawn-before the dog, hubby and kiddo are awake and then I pick it up on my train ride into work. I pick it up again for my lunch break and then for my train ride home. I find if I knit in the evenings I make boo boos which cause hair tearing lots of explitives. That doesn’t mean I don’t do it, hee!
I knit every day at lunch with 2 friends who work on the same college campus as I do. I also knit on Wednesday evenings (occasionally) at a local coffe shop with a group of about 20 people; on Thursday nights at a LYS “in the middle of nowhere” with anywhere from 6-20 people; and every Saturday morning from 8-10 a.m. at the aforementioned coffee shop. On the first Saturday of every month, we spin in the afternoon at the same coffee shop! 🙂
I knit on my lunch hour……every day!
I am soooo happy to see that someone else has unfinished projects!! I have a sweater sitting on the floor (in a plastic bag) waiting for the strip you pick up to add buttons to…then Melville’s Einstein coat that needs finishing..and I won’t EVEN begin to count the shawls!! hahahaha I guess I lost interest in the shawls when I realized I don’t really know how to store them after going through all the work of blocking them. Anyway, I knit mostly in the evenings during the week and week-ends. If it’s raining on the week-ends, then instead of going out and buy more yarn for my stash, I stay home and knit. I seem to wish for rain a lot lately!! hahahahaha I am going to TRY to finish the one needing the button strip (I hate picking up stitches) this week-end. Wish me luck!!
I love knitting in the evenings when the house is reasonably clean and I have time to settle down for a nice glass of wine. That probably has something to do with why I can’t get to bed before midnight. There is always one more row!
I knit at lunch!!
I tend to do most of my knitting in the evenings. I have a knitting corner with good lighting, often the moment I pick up the knitting, my Papillion Darcy jumps up and curls up on my lap. Since she gets me up early on the weekends too, I like to knit for an hour in the morning light, it is a calming way to start the day!!
i knit a little in the evenings to relax & sometimes I can fit in a couple rows at lunch.
As a psychologist, I often recommend that anxious/depressed clients try a fiber project before they try taking medication for their distress. I do keep a “brainless” knitting project in the office so I can knit when a client doesn’t show up, as it keeps me relaxed. Once I even had a seriously traumatized client who asked me to knit during our session. She said “if you’re knitting, I’ll know you feel safe so I don’t have to worry about somebody coming through the door to hurt me.”
I knit most productively during my lunch hour at work. Turn off the phone, grab a cup of coffee, start up some online tv, and go to town 🙂
after i get off work while i watch a movie. i only get an hour in but at least i get that!
I knit in the evenings-usually after 9 pm as I watch TV
I do the most knitting when I running experiments at national laboratories. Typically a shift is 12 or more hours long and knitting keeps me up. On a normal week I would have to say that I do most of my knitting on weekend mornings especially Saturday.
I do most of my knitting during the kids naptime and in the evening. I also try to get away once a week for my knitting group.
I knit whenever I can’t garden outside or whenever I’m not on the computer or doing a myriad of other things. Unfortunately, knitting is only done when I can fit it in…like riding in the car on a long trip. But I still get a few things knitted this way. 🙂
I do most of my knitting at night to relax and try to squeeze as much in on the weekend as I can. Weekends are so full getting stuff done that I would just LOVE to sit and knit for an entire weekend! I’m working on my first sweater that one of the fabulous Ewe Crew helped me pick out along with the yarn!!!
