It’s time to update my lists. I keep adding projects. It’s not my fault. I have to walk by shelves and shelves of yarn every single day at work. It’s a job hazard. But I decided something. There are some single socks that are going to stay single socks for a long time. That’s just the way it is. I like having them up on display and if I make the match to it, I’ll just have to knit another single for the wall. That’s my theory. But there ARE some socks that I want to wear instead of having on the wall, so those are on my list.
Do you keep a list of ongoing projects or “soon to knit” projects? And do you update it? Mine looks like this:
Need to Finish – in no particular order:
1. Malabrigo Silky Merino Green Grey scarf
2. Shibui Knits Ivory Cable Rib Wrap
3. Schaefer Anne Girasole shawl
4. Noro Silk Garden Worsted sweater (just one sleeve left – come ON!)
5. Zoe Cardi in Universal Cotton Supreme (worked on it all weekend. Still not done.)
6. My Sunshine Socks in Lorna’s Laces Butterscotch.
7. Froot Loops in Spud and Chloe Fine. (I initially typed Froot Loopy – my fingers work independent of my brain sometimes and I think I’ve typed out “loopy” too many times…)
8. My second sock in The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga. (we have more of this yarn going up next week – another big order for you!)
Need to knit: 4 different yarn lines that I’m contemplating adding in at the moment.
Want to start, not necessarily in this order:
1. Tesni Shawl in …. undecided. Maybe the new Cascade Eco Duo?
2. Seaside Shawlette in one of our new Loopy Line colors (coming in June!)
3. Clothilde in a gorgeous skein of handspun that Lynn from Denver gifted to me at the Fling. (And she is the best spinner I know. I am tempted to just save that handspun skein and put it on a pedestal, but she made me promise to use it, so I will.)
4. Ishbel in Blue Sky Alpaca Silk.
(Please note that anyone with 8 things on the *To Finish* list and 4 things on the *Need to Knit* list, has no business coming up with a *Want to Start* list. I know.)
And this is why the quote above the Cascade 220 Wall is so appropriate for me. You, too?
Here’s the blog question for you to answer in the comments (to be entered into the contest. Prize? Wollmeise. Awarded? Next Monday.) When do you do most of your knitting? For me, I knit more on the weekends than at any point during the week. I’d probably double my output if I could find more time in the evenings to knit.
Just in case you need to add to your *Want to Knit* list, tonight’s update included: Cascade Eco Duo (new!) and 5 new Eco Alpaca Twist colors, new Cascade Heritage Solid colors, 8 more coloways in Madelinetosh Vintage (including Tart – your favorite), Sajou Scissor re-stocks, Dream in Color Smooshy re-stocks, HiyaHiya needle re-stocks, as well as more of those cute Puppy Snips, Needle Gauges, and Interchangeable sets, and finally, a re-stock of Marie Mayhew patterns, including a new Woolly Sheep and a new Woolly Sheep Kit. Enjoy!

Knitting in the evening is my most common time but I also enjoy knitting in cars on longer trips.
I’ve been enjoying listening to podcasts and knitting after everyone’s homework is done!
I do most of my knitting at my boys’ basketball and baseball games (when I’m not snapping photos!). It takes half a baseball season to knit a pair of socks!!
I knit when I’m watching tv or a movie. I also love to read but get books on tape so I can knit at the same time.
Whenever I can steal time in between household chores, I pick up my knitting needles. I have even dreamt I was knitting and awoke thinking, I better wait and figure this out in the morning.
Morning, noon and night! I just can’t stop to cook, clean or do laundry…
Before baby, most of my knitting was done while commuting or while watching my husband play soccer. For the past 4 months, knitting happens during naps!
Knitting happens most often in the evenings- and now that the programs I watch are finished for the season I have even more time for knitting (and spinning)!
I knit wherever and whenever I can: The car waiting for kids, at home, lacrosse games, even the circus!!
I usually knit in front of the TV at night. I do knit and read at the same time, and I do love to knit while reading a book about knitting- does that make sense? I also like to knit on my lunch break. I find it grounds me.
I do most of my knitting in front of the tv — sports that my husband is watching. Second-best time/place? In the car traveling to and from our son’s ball games….3 hours each way….great dedicated and guilt-free knitting time!!!
I knit in the morning while my DH and I watch the news and discuss the days plans over 2 cups of coffee which takes at least 2 hours. Then I knit when I watch TV in the evening for an hour or two and at knit night once a week. I always knit on trips while my husband drives when we go to visit our daughter who is 8 hours away. We go at least 3 times a year.
i knit throughout the day, but mostly at night while my husband is goofing on the computer. and, and yes, when i am in the car, on the bus, at church, in a meeting–anywhere i have be still.
I knit almost every night after about 9pm. That’s when I finally sit down to relax. If I would just sit, I would feel guilty….when I knit I feel like I’m still being productive and relaxing at the same time. It’s my therapy!
I haven’t yet begun to knit (I currently crochet), but when I do, most of it will be at Two Sticks and a String store in Ephrata WA, because they teach free on Tuesdays from noon to 5pm. I usually go from noon to 2:30 and then pick up my son at school. My first project will be a purse bag that is made from 100% wool in two solid colors and one multi. It will be knit and then felted so coins don’t go through the bottom. It will have some stripes and two handles. I try to crochet everyday, but that isn’t always possible, because I take care of the house, yard, pets, and I am looking for a job. I like to crochet while my husband and son watch TV, becuase I don’t watch TV much, just listen to it. My favorite projects are socks, because they are so quick and easy and take little yarn. I am making my husband my first crocheted sweater. It will be his Christmas present. I love yarn!
I knit mostly at night when my almost 2-year old goes to sleep. Because my time is so limited, I practically knit anywhere; waiting in line at the post office, in my car while stuck in traffic, waiting for my children to exit the school building. Those little 15 – 30 minute intervals add up and help. 🙂
Most of my weekend time is relegated to washing and folding clothes which seems to be endless. Argh!
I do most of my knitting while watching tv. I pick up my knitting whenever I get a chance. I do knitting in the car if we are going on a trip, that is if I’m not driving.
Several ladies get together every couple of weeks and spend the time knitting between 10 and 2. I also belong to a knitting guild and we meet once a month.
I do most of my knitting at home after all of the major chores are done and the sunlight is the best. When the sun is out early I sometimes sneak in a few rows in my car before work starts. One of my co-workers saw me and asked what I was crocheting.
I knit in spits and spurts throughout the day. Watching my son do his online math course, between household chores, waiting up for the kids, waiting in the doctor/dentist office. On good days I can do a good hour a day this way. And then in the evening another hour (or more) instead of TV.
I do most of my knitting weeknight evenings while watching tv. Or on weekends when theres nothing else to do. And during the day on breaks, and lunches… and travelling in the car or on the bus. And and and… always 😉
I knit anywhere I can but mostly on my breaks and lunch at work. No one bugs me when i am counting stitches.
I do most of my knitting at home watching tv, but often “crash” before I knit long enough. I get my most successful segments of knitting done in the airport and on the plane–you have to arrive early, why not knit? On the plane, you can not be distracted by a phone ringing or a household buzzer. I wear my noise canceling headphones and escape into a knitting nirvana!
I knit more in the evenings. Almost none on the weekends, unless I go to my MIL’s house. Then I get TONS done.
I do most of my knitting in the evenings while I’m watching tv!
I’m fortunate to only be working 1/2 days. My kids are grown. So I come home from work and sit in my corner of the couch with one Golden Retriever on my right and one at my feet and I knit for about 4 hours while listening to books on tape. It’s a wonderfully relaxing way to spend my afternoons. I’m so blessed.
Dog shows! I do most of my knitting at dog shows. I always have a simple project going that doesn’t require a pattern so I can tote it around. I’m on several charity Boards and I knit in Board meetings and in church classes (cleared it with preacher first – he said glazed eyes bother him more than me knitting). And I’m sooo thankful I knit when I have to attend continuing ed!
Btw, who says socks have to be identical? If a single was all you could tolerate of that pattern, why not make the other out of a similar or coordinating pattern? It’s a way to try more patterns, too.
I travel…A LOT. So I get a tremendous amount of knitting done in airports and on airplanes. I also spend part of the occasional weekend recovery day immersed in knitting and catching up on DVR’d TV shows.
I LOVE being able to knit anymore and love doing socks..mostly I knit at night while hubby is watching TV and sometimes if trying to get something done for another mid day! LOVE IT…
I knit every single night. After work, home from the gym, after the kitties are fed and I’ve had my dinner, too, I get comfy on the fouton and stream some Netflix via my PS3. It’s a solid 2 hours of knit time every lovin’ night and it helps to keep me sane and helps to recharge my batteries for the next day of work.
Well, I work part time at my LYS, and spring and summer are our slow season, so I do get to knit there a good bit, but probably the most productive knitting time is at night watching the boob tube!
I love travel knitting — my dd is in Fl, so when we go see her, I get nearly 8 straight hours of knitting time — I even knit in the dark last time (it was straight stockinette stitch. But, I was still pleasantly surprised that there weren’t any “uh-oh’s!”)
Whenever I can find a few minutes–lately I haven’t found too many!
Like clockwork, in the evening, as soon as dinner dishes are cleaned up, until 11 or midnight, depending on how enticing that “one more row” is at that hour of the night! :o)
I like to knit while enjoying morning coffee, after cleaning up from working in the garden, while listening to music or to a recorded book, while chatting with pals at my fave LYS, when sitting in waiting rooms, at the end of the day when I am relaxing in my fave chair and thinking about the blessings of the day, problems to be solved and hopes for tomorrow. I love retirement!
I probably do most of my knitting on the weekends. But if I’m going through a stretch where I keep waking up early, I’ll get up to fit in some knitting time. My second most popular knitting time is before bed for 30-60 minutes.
I do most of my knitting in the evenings as it is so theraputic after a long day at work. And if I squeeze in an extra day off from work, I spend most of it knitting.
I knit in the evenings mostly. Also when travelling. I knit year-round, but really I’m a seasonal knitter, most of my knitting is done during the fall and winter. Of course, I can pick up a sock and knit anytime!
I knit in the evenings to calm me down after a stressful day at work. I also pack a project to carry to work to knit on during my breaks. The company I work for laid off over 700 people in the past year so it is a bit stressful around the office for the 100 of us that are left!
I knit regularly at night from 7pm onward. (and other times during the day if I can get away with it!)..
I knit EVERYWHERE! I knit anytime I have a free moment…on the subway, in a meeting (it actually helps me focus!), sometimes even at church. I knit when I’m shopping at the mall (it keeps me from grabbing at all the things I want and can’t afford…LOL) and watching TV. I knit in the movie theater during the movie, and I knit in restaurants while I am waiting for my food. Knitting is my addiction!
I knit in bits and pieces throughout the day–whenever my three-year old is not hanging off me. 🙂 I usually have projects sprinkled around the house so I can get a few stitches in here and there. And when I have big chunks of time (like naptime after lunch, or after bedtime) I knit to audiobooks and podcasts. I also knit in the movie theater, but only when I go to see operas (at the movie theater–I don’t knit during live opera!) because my husband doesn’t come with me, and he would KILL me if I knit at a movie with him. 🙂
I do most of my knitting on my weekend, which is usually mid-week ( I work retail-hell). so I’ll listen to the TV and knit in the evening. Debbie in Alaska
Most of the time I knit for a little while before going to bed and on Sunday morning I enjoy knitting while drinking a leisurely cup of coffee.
I knit all the time – in the early morning and while watching T.V. “mindless” knitting; during the afternoon and early evening lace or color work projects requiring concentration.
I knit while I am waiting for my kids. Car pool line skating lessons, piano lessons, baseball games, etc… Depending on the schedule, I can squeeze quite a bit in! 🙂
after the kids go to sleep.
I knit in the evenings after the kids go to bed.
I knit in the evening after I finish the dinner dishes and the house is quiet. I also keep a project in my bag for those small minutes that crop up during the day.
I knit any time I have a chance.
I usually knit late at night when I should be sleeping. I find it is a calming activity.
My favorite time to knit is early in the morning on the weekends but try to knit for at least an hour every evening.
I usually knit while I’m watching TV at night or while I’m waiting in the car to shuttle the kids to this thing and that. I also knit whenever we have to wait at a doctor’s office or extended car trips when I’m not driving.
I haven’t yet figured out how to carve out time regularly during the day to knit, but the few times I’ve knit during daylight I seem to get more done. Ah, paradox!
