We need some color here in St. Louis – how about you? It has been raining for days and will continue to do so until Saturday. Now you know that I like rainy, cloudy days, but this is getting ridiculous. So I thought I’d share a fall photo that my hubby took last weekend. Click on this indian corn photo to make it big, and check out the kernals on the ear third from the left. Amazing! I’ve never seen a colorburst like that before.
Good news – because I’m within a day’s delivery from Dream in Color, we’ve been able to re-stock all of the Knitosophy line already. (And our wayward box of the BOLD colorway arrived. I took a quick photo of it here – beautiful blues – but I’ll make sure that the “official” photo gets taken later this week, too. I did add them to the site. I didn’t want you to have to wait on ordering it, as several of you have asked about it.) This new dye method turns out gorgeous colorways. If you were in our sock club in 2008, Veronica experimented with this method on the Spicy Kisses colorway that she did for us that summer. I’m having trouble deciding which colorway to knit up first. I like Butterfly and Superhero because of the color mixes. But Blossom is so tangy that you can almost taste it. And I love the thought behind Strength and Laugh. (Come to think of it, those would be good colorways to use for socks or shawls or scarves for people who need a little of that in their lives.) Hard to decide. I know you all had the same problem, because so many of you bought several of them! It will be fun to see your projects as you finish them up.
While I’ve been knitting at night, I’ve been watching the Food Network. Big mistake. Now I find myself wanting cake when I go to bed. I used to like white cake with chocolate frosting, but then I tried Kirstin’s Chai buttercream frosting on a spice cupcake and that immediately moved to my favorite spot. Although now that I’ve seen this “Decadent Chocolate” photo, I think I might need to try one of those for comparison. (Photo used with permission.) Unfortunately As You Wish Bakery doesn’t ship, but I will let you know if that ever changes. I’m definitely ordering platters of her cake balls for next year’s Spring Fling. I have an “in” with her mom, Janice, who comes down to help me with the Fling every year. I’m sure she’ll deliver. Red Velvet cake with buttercream frosting. It appeals to the eyes as well as tantalizing the tastebuds.
I’m a chocolate on chocolate gal. Period. Nothing is too rich.
Gosh – my all time favorite is white cake (out of the box lol) with homemade vanilla icing or the white cake with whipped icing (actually it’s whipped cream) from the grocery store I work at (makes me want some and I haven’t seen it sold in slices for a while). I also enjoy eating strawberry jello cake that my cousin loves to make and spice cake, but haven’t had them in a while.
I love pure white wedding cake with white frosting. It’s always such a happy event and a piece of cake just tops it off!
Chocolate cake (no frosting)…but Cool Whip on top is delicious…Cheese cake is also a favorite..I am not really a frosting lover.
I’m a chocolate-holic. So dark devil’s food cake with dark chocolate frosting really rocks my world. There is no such thing as too much dark, rich, chocolate. 🙂
I have to go with Chocolate cake with chocolate sour cream icing/frosting (depends where in the world you are) – this is the best icing ever. You have to make sure you split the cake and fill it as well. Oh yum – now i have to go and find my recipe book and make some.
Ummm cupcakes, Blackforest Cupcakes (cupcakes flavoured with morello cherries and Cherry Brandy), Strawberry cupcakes with strawberry frosting, vanilla cupcakes with lemon and lime frosting…I could go on!
I’m an easy one – chocolate, with a luscious chocolate frosting and I am a happy camper! But those cupcakes look oh so yum!
Carrot cake or German chocolate cake
I love any cake from McArthur’s. Their white with lemon filling is awesome! But when not in STL, I’d have to go for a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
It’s a toss-up between homemade chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, or carrot cake with all of the goodies in it, crushed pineapple, shredded carrots, coconut, raisins, walnuts and yummy cream cheese frosting on top! Great, now I want to make one! Maybe I’ll take it to work tomorrow for Boss’s Day!
I am not fussy my cake of choice is Dark Chocolate and Chocolate Fudge icing. And Duncan HInes and Pillsbury frosting is my drug of choice, no need to start from scratch when they do such a good job.
Pear cake with mocha/spice buttercream ….mmmmm.
My favorite cake? Winter or summer? In summer I love very lemony pound cake topped by lemon juice icing. In winter it’s moist yellow cake with coffee butter frosting like my mom made. Yum!
Frankly I just like cake, but if I have to choose just one, it would be my husbands poppy seed cake, with cajeta (mexican milk caramel) rather than icing.
My favorite cake and frosting is a recipe I got from my first roommate out of college (way back when) and is made from scratch. It is a chocolate cake and chocolate frosting that is made with Coca Cola. It is super moist and very chocolatey! If you love chocolate it is the cake for you.

Ice cream cake is my favorite. Carvel has a wonderful sugary icing on it. It can be any flavor. :0)

My favorite cake and frosting now is a wonderful chocolate bundt cake recipe with a chocolate fudge icing. Actually just pour the icing in a 9X9 pan and it would be like eating fudge! So good!
WELL, now I ‘m hungry !!!!! My favorite cake is a chocolate cake with a creamy filling in the middle and chocolate and marschino cherry frosting….it is a lot of work but that first bite is worth it…..at my house, you are lucky if you get a second piece.
About the corn, the 3rd from the left…….now wouldn’t that be a lovely mix for a yarn skein……..

I made several different kinds of cupcakes for my daughter’s wedding shower. The favorite and a hit with everyone was the Key Lime cupcake with lime peel frosting. So, so good.
The strawberry jelly roll.
Beginning when I was three years old, and every year since then, my dad has made me a jelly roll for my birthday. When I was turning three he gave me the Betty Crocker Cookbook and told me I could pick anything I wanted. I picked a white jelly roll filled with cream and strawberries. It’s become an annual tradition. The first few years the filling was CoolWhip instead of cream, then DreamWhip as we worked our way towards more the real stuff: delicous freshly whipped cream. Now that I live half way across the country the tradition doesn’t happen on the same day, but each year we make sure a jelly roll is part of our tradition to celebrate another year of life.

Without a doubt the best cake ever is homemade applesauce cake with fudge frosting. The cupckaes look scrumptious!
Well, if you like oranges and chocolate, you should try the Barefoot Contessa’s Mini Orange Chocolate Chunk Cake. It’s calorie rich, so I like to make small cupcakes.
I checked the blog yesterday morning, so I’m bringing up the rear on the Great Cake Debate today. My very favorite of all is apple cake (spice cake + diced apples and slivered almonds) with a sugar glaze. How ever, if someone were to stop by with any of the cakes mentioned already, I’d be willing to to help out. No point letting a good cake go to waste!

I am a confirmed “chocoholic”, so I would have to say chocolate cake with fudge chocolate frosting. With perhaps a few chocolate sprinkles (or mini chocolate chips) on top. Nope, no chocolate “problem” here…
Since my nickname is “Plain Jane” I tend to stick with yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Simple yet delicious!

A bakery here (Sweet Mamas) makes a cake/bar called Sunny Delight. Chocolate cake with a layer of cream cheese/powdered sugar filling, topped off with a fudge icing. Heaven on earth!
OK, I just spent 10 minutes looking for my favorite cake recipe; Luscious Devils Food Cake with Chocolate Cream Frosting. When I first lived on my own in Central Maine a local woman gave me this recipe so I could make my own Happy Birthday To Me cake. So delicious!
My favorite has always been a rich, dark devilsfood with a light layer of of plain, white frosting.

Favorite cake has to be a Red Velvet cake with cream cheese icing – my southern neighbor used to make them for our birthday when we were kids…
My more recent favorites have to be some decadent chocolate thing. Deep, dark chocolate with rich chocolate icing….nearly fudge-like in its richness. THAT is the most awesome thing!

My favorite bought cake is Arnie’s Dutch Chocolate Torte. Layers of chocolate cake interspersed with chocolate buttercream and then a hard chocolate shell on the outside. It was our wedding cake and we both still get it whenever possible.

I can’t really pick a favorite. My MIL makes a pistachio cake with pistachio cream icing that is fabulous, and my Mom makes a Bailey’s Irish Cream cake with this kind of warm drizzly icing that’s just scrumptious. How can you pick between the two??
My favorite frosting is maple-walnut buttercream, but I put that on cookies, not cake. 🙂
New Favorite after yesterday, King Arthur Choco-Buzz recipe is the best I’ve ever had.
My husband is the main cook now as aging with Cerebral Palsy makes cooking harder. I sit at the Kitchen table and do what can be done there. He hates cooking but loves eating. This made a mess! First bite he was talking about doing it again.
