… mug? Or teacup? Or your preferred container for hot beverages? This is my favorite. Some of you may remember that I have a habit of over-buying mugs/cups. I don’t know what it is. But I have found my favorite and I think my mug-buying days are over. (Unless this one breaks. But I know where to get another one of them.) I love the size of this, the weight of it, the feel of it, and the colors. (Mine came from here. I love their work and have purchased several things from them.) Since I’m so attached to this mug, it made me wonder if others of you have a favorite? Tell us about it in the comments below for this month’s blog contest. We’ll randomly draw the winners from the comments and will announce them next Friday.
Today’s recipe is one of those comfort food types of things. (Good taste plus pasta = comfort.) It makes a lot and there are all kinds of things in there. Just add some fresh fruit or a big salad to the menu and you have a meal.
1 pound spaghetti noodles, cooked al dente
3 cups shredded frozen hash browns, thawed
1 lb. sausage (or 3 chicken breasts, cooked and cubed)
2 Tbl. olive oil
1 bag of shredded cabbage slaw (or 1/2 head cabbage, shredded)
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup (or can) of chicken broth
4 Tbl. butter
2 cups Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese, shredded
1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
(Want more color? Add broccoli to the recipe. Yum!)
Brown sausage in skillet and drain. Add olive oil to the pan and stir in onion, garlic and cabbage, cooking until tender (about 10 minutes). Add chicken broth and heat through.
In large bowl, combine cooked noodles, hash browns, butter, 1 cup cheddar, 1 cup Parmigiano Reggiano, and cabbage/sausage mixture and mix well. Turn into a 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Add the last cup of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to the top and bake for 5 more minutes.
Because I don’t have quite enough knitting projects “in progress”, I picked up a book last night and have decided to make a Noro Chevron Sleeve Cardigan from Knitting Noro. Just for fun. (Although I’m not sure why I just admitted that to you. I ought to have kept quiet about it until I was almost finished. One day I’ll learn.)
People were eating chocolate here today. How do I know? There’s evidence on the floor. And just because there were kisses by my favorite mug in the photo, don’t be fooled. It was totally for eating scale so that you could get an idea of the mug size. (The carpeting looks a little ugly close up, don’t you think? It’s a good thing that there is a lot of beautiful yarn and chocolate around here to distract people from looking down.)

My favorites are ones my kids have given me. One has “I Love My Mom” on it and it always makes me smile.
What a fun contest! I’m almost as serious about my mugs as I am about tea. 🙂
On weekdays when I commute or on long car trips, I use an AutoSeal vacuum mug from Contigo – no spilling, and it keeps my tea hot FOREVER (well, at least for 3 hrs) It’s the best I’ve found. But for when I have a big mug of chai on a relaxing Sunday morning, I always use my loopy mug from the 2nd anniversary package since it’s nice and tall and cheerful.
My favorite mug loks like a pot-bellied stove with dragon scales. It holds nearly 16 oz and doesn’t tip over.
Any mug in my kitchen, but please no cups.
My favorite mug is the Starbucks knitting mug ( with cables and knitting stitches) that I received from my husband at Christmas. I use it everyday, well actually he got me two – in case one breaks 🙂
I have two favorite mugs: one is a handcrafted pottery mug that a friend bought for my mom. It is small and fragile and just fits nicely cupped in my hand. The other one is the mug I use at work, because its very large and holds a lot of tea, but isn’t incredibly heavy and doesn’t tip over.
Mugs for every day and my grandmother’s Blue Willow tea cups 9and saucers) for special days! Tea only! My favourite mug is a pottery one that I bought when we were on holidays in Clear Lake (Manitoba, Canada). It is simple brown tweedy but the minute I saw and held it, I could feel how great it would feel sitting on the deck in the Muskoka chair (Americans call them Adirondack chairs) drinking my tea and watching the dogs and the birds. It doesn’t happen often enough but even when used inside it makes a cup of tea special.
PS. I thought the rug would make a great knitted fabric for a jacket!
My favorite is a French stoneware with–what else–frogs! Heavy weight, simple line, stone color with a tealish jumping frog on the outside. But the inside is best. It has just the legs hanging from the rim as if the frog had jumped out of the cup and off to the races. Love it.
I like a large mug 12oz or so, but it can’t be too tall and the handle has to feel right. I’m searching for the one now. I’m using one that has broken and glued handle.
My favorite mug is a white mug with a sky blue inside that was a gift from my friend in Dallas. She bought an indentical mug for herself so that even though I now live in MN, she and I can get on the phone and sip tea (earl gray) while we chat. Just a simple way to feel somewhat connected even though we are a thousand miles apart.
I have a large china mug that I make Chai lattes in. I like it because it is the perfect size to wrap my hands around, and help soothe my too-much-knitting aching hands!
My favourite coffee mug is yellow with a rooster on it. The best part is I really don’t like yellow and I don’t own chickens but this is the best mug ever and the coffee tastes just right everytime.
I bought it at a market. Its handmade – maybe thats the key to its brillance!
My favorite mug is a green one with a lizard from Rainforest Cafe. It’s huge, holds about 16 oz, is my favorite color green, and has a lizard, my favorite animal. Perfect!
My favorite mug is the one I use at work. It was a gift from my Mother who remembered that I said I preferred large mugs. I think it holds around 16 oz and I fill it several times a day with tea. It is a ceramic mug with mountains on it. When I got it, I thought it must be a locally produced product, but I have found similar mugs in many specialty type stores. My sister gave me one by the same company a couple of years ago for Christmas, but I am keeping it in reserve in case anything happens to this one. I like it most for its size, but also that it is comfortable to hold and is dark inside so no one knows how infrequently I clean it.
I have 2 favorites right now and which I use depends on if I need color or clarity… I use my Starbucks, olive green, double-insulated mug if I need color in my life or my Tea Forte Morehouse glass mug if I just need simple clarity.
My favorite mug is a big clear green mug from Starbucks. I have had it for years, and used to have two. The recipe looks great for my family. Hearty enough for the hungry guys and I love cabbage! Thanks.
I have a mug that is as thin as a teacup and that is why I love it. It’s a bit too cutesy with daffodil’s and a kitten on it but as far as comfort to hold and to drink from it is my fave.
I also buy way more mugs than any normal human could need, but my current favorite is similar to this one http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vt_related_1&listing_id=22285630 . I purchased it from this shop and I love it. The weight is nice, and the texture is so interesting. It has a permanent home on my desk. 🙂
I like my red Loopy Ewe mug from the Spring Fling. My other favorite is a big mug with various moose (mooses?) on it that I bought in Sweden.
My favorite mug is from Starbucks. It is fairly large so i don’t have to fill it as often! The design is white with red peppermints all over it and a red interior. A co-worker gave it to me for a secret santa exchange.
I have mugs hanging around three huge windows in my kitchen, kind of my own brand of window treatment. This number of mugs, mostly “one-sies” allows me to have a different favorite each week. (There are a few more in the kitchen cabinets, but I don’t count them – I’m afraid to count them. Breaking a mug is a acceptable reason for attending the next art show with money in my purse, possibly a celebratory event.
I have more mugs than yarn in my stash. We could call it my pottery stash.
My favorite is probably a travel mug I got at Disney World. Show’s Donald Duck taking a sledgehammer to his computer, and says something about stress relief. It’s often how I feel about my computer…. I also love my blue Loopy mug!
I love hot tea, especially while I’m knitting (gives my fingers a break as well as providing heat to warm and loosen the finger muscles!) My favorite mug is a dark blue-y teal with a Japanese flower motif that I found at Pier 1. I love it . I take it with me to knit night every Monday at Panera, too.
My favorite mug holds lots of tea and has a cat on it. It also was a gift from my best friend.
I still have a mug from when I was 14 years old and a gymnast . . . it has a gymnast caricature (sp?) bent in a silly way and it says “i’m head over heels for gymnastics!”
Its an oldie . . . I’m 38 now . . . . still love it for my hot cocoa!
My favorite is orange and blue striped that fits in my cup holder in the car perfectly!
My favorite mug is my giant travel mug…it holds about half a litre of coffee which keeps me sane throughout the morning (I am definitely not a morning person!).
Has to be a mug, preferably hand made–a tea cup just doesn’t hold enough!
My favorite mug features Mickey Mouse with a pink background on the outside and blue on the inside. This mug was acquired many, many years ago on a family vacation at Disney World in Florida. Still brings a smile to my face!
My favorite mug is the Old Pueblo Knitters mug. It looks apothecary and I like that. It also has the words “just one more row” on it which works for me but I would rather have one more round!
I have 2 favorite mugs. I bought a teal colored one from Target to keep at work so I don’t have to use the Styrofoam cups and then I have an identical one, but is a light green color, for home. They seem to hold more than your regular coffee cup!
My favorite mug is a Christmas theme one, that I try to save only for the holidays; it seems more special that way. But I often sneak it in the rotation, and declare that day a holiday. It is from Portmerion china in the Holly and Ivy pattern, with a perfectly formed handle and beautifully curled little lip. My absolute favorite.
Current favorite mug is my Loopy Ewe one–it’s the perfect size.
In the mornings, I drink coffee so it is a college mug from where I work. In the afternoons and evenings, I drink tea from a vinatge teacup I bought at a streetfair when I studied in London.
My favorite coffee/tea/hot chocolate cup is an oversized Starbucks mug. Cream with the logo on it. My previous favorite (and current #2) is an oversized white mug with the admonishment “Hell hath no fury like a woman who has sworn off cookies and chocolate.” It was a gift from my ex-husband on the occasion of my quitting smoking. (Actually I had quit 2 weeks prior but at first he didn’t notice and when he finally did, he didn’t say anything for fear I would start smoking again. As if I had forgotten I smoked and he needed to remind me?!?! Arrogance much?!?) The irony is that cookes and chocolate. . . and ice cream and furniture. . . were all being consumed in large quantities (a) to pacify my mouth and brain and hands and (b) to keep me from killing anyone. I still have the cup. The husband is long, long gone.
My favorite mug at work is a very plain blue mug that is kind of an upside-down cone shape (bigger at the top than the bottom). One of my best friends bought it for me at Gloria Jean’s in high school (10 years ago). It’s got a tiny crack from the top edge to the handle, so I have to be careful not to fill it too full.
At home, my favorite is a free mug from the bank! It’s about the same size and shape as my blue one, but with a shiny glaze instead of dull (and of course, the bank’s logo). We have a green one for me and an orange one for my husband.
Unlike everyone else, I don’t really like super big mugs. I’d rather refill more often. Maybe I have weak wrists or something. I like to hold on to my mug with one hand while I type with the other!
My favorite mug is one I made myself (I’m a potter) out of black stoneware. It’s the right weight, holds the precise amount of liquid, and if feels nice in my hands. It’s the best one I’ve ever made!
My favorite mug is one I brought back as a souvenir from a trip to London years ago that has a map of the London Underground on it.
My favorite mug is one my mom gave me for my birthday (which is halloween). It is handpainted with black and white gingham, and there are little ceramic candy corn around the mug’s rim. It’s adorable! I love taking it down for my first cup of tea when I’m home on break! Especially when that’s followed by sitting down and knitting!
I drink all of my warm beverages out of a beautiful knitting-inspired mug from jennie the potter (http://www.jenniethepotter.com/products/3_knitting_mug.htm) that was given to me by my beautiful daughter who is my partner in crime/knitting obsession who gave it to me last Christmas. Its a beautiful hand-thrown mug … every knitter should have one!
I rarely use mugs, though a while back I found myself acquiring a collection of them. Now I limit myself to buying unique and different mugs. I honestly couldn’t tell you which was my favorite. Maybe the dog mug complete with little footprints on the bottom and a stubby little tail (the handle was the nose/mouth). Or maybe the one that had a tiny little unicorn that looked up from the inside. For Halloween, I have a mug shaped like a witches’ cauldron with 3 little legs that prop it up. When it gets cold out, I have a matching-ish set of snowman and penguin mugs that have hats and scarves (for the handles).
My favorite mug is one I bought when I was in college, it says “Mold experiment in progress”. This tells my housekeeping habits, back then as well as now!
I sort of rotate through a bunch of mugs and teacups. My current fav at home is a huge mug that looks like an oversized teacup. It works great for soup or cereal too.
At work I use a “Not a Paper Cup” mug – looks like a grande-sized paper cup- but its actually ceramic with a latex lid.
My favorite mug was purchased for me by my stepdaughter, while she was on a trip to Italy. My favorite film director of all time is Dario Argento, master of the Italian Giallo/Horror genre. In recent years, in addition to directing films, he has opened a memorabilia shop/museum in Rome by the name of Profondo Rosso (also the name of what many consider to be his best film).
My sweet stepdaughter, while in Rome, sought this store out and bought a touristy, Dario Argento/Profondo Rosso mug for me.
I cherish this mug!! 🙂 Few people I know appreciate it as much as I do, but this is one of the coolest non-sock yarn items that I own!!
My favorite mug is almost 31 years old! I purchased it at Crate and Barrel in Chicago as part of my wedding gift to myself. It is a large blue specled hand made pottery look mug with a single cobalt blue stripe around the rim. At that time the whole set of dishes, mugs, bowls etc. was so ” Hip” looking, so 70’s (i’m really dating myself here!). Kinda funny and sad when I think about what I went thru in different phases of my life while drinking something warm and comforting from that mug. Can you believe after all these years and an empty nest, we have exactly 2 plates, 2 mugs and 2 bowls still intact, and each other . How perfect is that ?
My favorite mug is from Fallingwater (the Frank Lloyd Wright designed home in PA). It doesn’t hold much, so no cold coffee…it’s heavy, so it’s hard to tip over. 🙂
I love all of my mugs…but the cabled knit mug from starbucks this holiday season is definitely my favorite!
My favorite mug is just one from Pier 1 in my favorite color combo – blue and brown. It’s square too, which makes it a little unique, I guess 🙂
My favorite mug isn’t a mug – it’s a tea cup. I got it in Germany on my honeymoon. It isn’t one of a kind or anything fancy, just a cream colored cup with blue flowers. But I love the shape of it, and it’s just the right size for me.
My favorite mug is very similar to yours, Sheri. It is all blue and a bit shorter & rounder and was purchased while visiting some friends along the Northern California coast. It fits my tea brewing basket perfectly (most mugs don’t) and I love drinking from it every time. I can’t say it is my last mug, though. I’ve got my eye on the ones with knitting sheep. 🙂
