… mug? Or teacup? Or your preferred container for hot beverages? This is my favorite. Some of you may remember that I have a habit of over-buying mugs/cups. I don’t know what it is. But I have found my favorite and I think my mug-buying days are over. (Unless this one breaks. But I know where to get another one of them.) I love the size of this, the weight of it, the feel of it, and the colors. (Mine came from here. I love their work and have purchased several things from them.) Since I’m so attached to this mug, it made me wonder if others of you have a favorite? Tell us about it in the comments below for this month’s blog contest. We’ll randomly draw the winners from the comments and will announce them next Friday.
Today’s recipe is one of those comfort food types of things. (Good taste plus pasta = comfort.) It makes a lot and there are all kinds of things in there. Just add some fresh fruit or a big salad to the menu and you have a meal.
1 pound spaghetti noodles, cooked al dente
3 cups shredded frozen hash browns, thawed
1 lb. sausage (or 3 chicken breasts, cooked and cubed)
2 Tbl. olive oil
1 bag of shredded cabbage slaw (or 1/2 head cabbage, shredded)
1 large onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup (or can) of chicken broth
4 Tbl. butter
2 cups Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese, shredded
1 cup sharp cheddar, shredded
(Want more color? Add broccoli to the recipe. Yum!)
Brown sausage in skillet and drain. Add olive oil to the pan and stir in onion, garlic and cabbage, cooking until tender (about 10 minutes). Add chicken broth and heat through.
In large bowl, combine cooked noodles, hash browns, butter, 1 cup cheddar, 1 cup Parmigiano Reggiano, and cabbage/sausage mixture and mix well. Turn into a 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Add the last cup of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to the top and bake for 5 more minutes.
Because I don’t have quite enough knitting projects “in progress”, I picked up a book last night and have decided to make a Noro Chevron Sleeve Cardigan from Knitting Noro. Just for fun. (Although I’m not sure why I just admitted that to you. I ought to have kept quiet about it until I was almost finished. One day I’ll learn.)
People were eating chocolate here today. How do I know? There’s evidence on the floor. And just because there were kisses by my favorite mug in the photo, don’t be fooled. It was totally for eating scale so that you could get an idea of the mug size. (The carpeting looks a little ugly close up, don’t you think? It’s a good thing that there is a lot of beautiful yarn and chocolate around here to distract people from looking down.)

I have a mug that i have had since at least 1990… i hope I don’t jinx it now talking about it! It too is the perfect size and weight, and if it is clean and put away, I always go for it in the morning first. It looks like the old time speckled tin paint mugs that were tin. It is blue paint with white paint spots all over it, but it is ceramic, so it holds the heat in well. My close second is the new mug my mom was thoughtful to get me for Christmas, the Starbucks mug that looks like knitting. If the ceramic was thicker and held in heat it may be my new favorite… but it is thin and my coffee gets cold too fast… or I drink it too slow… either way, I would need to knit a cozy for my knit mug..kind of pointless huh?? My DH has a favorite mug too, had it for maybe 20 yrs + also, he has a mug with the John Lennon/ Yoko Ono drawing on it… that is his go to mug too:) thanks for the raffle!!
We have lots of mugs for our morning coffee/newspaper ritual. I have 2 favorites, due to their shape. They are wider at the top than the bottom, sort of conical. Mug number one says “Instant diva – just add champagne”! Mug number two is from the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame….a must see if you find yourself in Clevland, OH.
My favorite mug was a sample from a vendor at work. It is white and says Memphis in blue with a blue rim and a wide blue handle. There is just something perfect about the shape and the wide handle that make it perfect for wrapping my cold hands around when it is filled with something hot and yummy.
My favorite is a mug from the college where my son went, reminding me of the years of debt I am in! He did graduate, which always makes me smile.
I love tea cups for drinking tea with friends, but I daily drink out of a giant blue mug that has DC female super-heroines all over it. I love it.
My favorite is an oversized yellow mug with an old-style Winnie-the-Pooh on it. Not only is it large enough to REALLY get a good cup in, it makes me smile every time I use it!
My favorite mug is a handmade stoneware mug, made by a local potter. It’s glazed with a blend of several different blues and has a scallop shell at the top of the handle. I love this mug — it keeps my tea hot for a long time so I can enjoy it while I have a sit & knit.
My favorite mug is my white and green cup and saucer from the Cafe’ du Monde in New Orleans. It’s a reminder of my favorite city, which brings back many happy memories.
My favorite mug has a quote on it from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “There’s nothing we can’t face except for bunnies.” Extra bonus points with me because I have two beautiful bunnies!
My favorite mug says “Housework won’t kill me, but why take a chance”
My grandma got it for me 🙂 It’s very retro looking!
My favorite is a mug my husband gave me quite awhile ago. It had a picture of a very stylish chicken who was just literally breaking out of her shell. But she was already complete with a fancy hat & stylish purse & pearls. She also had her VISA card out & ready for use. The title on the mug was BORN TO SHOP. I used the mug for many years even after the picture started fading. We moved to NY just last year and shortly beforehand, we cleaned out quite a bit. I had decided to toss the mug-the picture and saying had long ago faded but I had kept it for sentimental value. It still makes me smile 🙂
a mug i’ve had from my college days..it’s big and tall
My favorite is the mug I bought from the first Starbucks in Seattle across from the Pike Place Market. It reminds me of one of the best vacations I have ever had.
I am a total tea cup person. Mugs are too heavy. I like having a saucer like a coaster under my cup.
My favorite mug is a stainless steel mug sold by Starbucks years ago. It’s narrow at the top and has a really wide bottom (kinda like me!). It was designed to make it difficult to accidently knock it over. I really needed that, which was why I went ahead and shelled out twenty bucks for it back about 6 years ago. Still, it’s been worth its weight in gold because: a) I never mix it up for someone else’s mug; b) I rarely knock it over.
My very favorite mug is a fairly standard Starbuck’s cup. It’s big enouch, and heavy enough, and it feels good in my hands. But mostly, it was a gift from my favorite cousin, almost a sister, who gave it to me as a little “cheer up: gift at a time when I really needed a cheer up. Every time I use it I feel her sending me a little love. Corny, huh?
My favorite tea mug is just a plain red insulated mug. The reason it is my favorite is because most mornings my husband makes me tea in this mug before he goes to work. By the time I get up and get to it, it may be cold but that is why they made mircrowaves right? I also have another ceramic mug/cup that he also makes my morning tea in, so I have a good two mugs/cups ready and waiting for me when I get to the kitchen.
My favorite mug is a hand made pottery mug made by a potter I know. It’s bluish on top and reddish on the bottom and melds into a purplish hue somewhere in between. It’s just the right size, and the handle has this little nub on top that makes it comfortable to hold. It’s perfect. 🙂
I have a huge red mug that I love, I am often looking high and low for it though, since my kids relly like it too. I guess I should buy them each one of their own so they will leave mine alone. It is my favorite because it holds a lot of hot tea and keeps it warm for a long time and it is microwave and dishwasher safe.
My favorite mug was a gift from my circle of girlfriends here after my old mug broke—it’s a Thun with coffee beans painted around the outside, and inside is written “al volo” which means “on the run.” Too true!
I have a cobalt blue pottery mug that I got at a Renaissance fair years ago that’s my fave….it holds a TON of coffee. Which I drink constantly.
My favorite mug is one that was a gift from my husband. Tiny hearts cover the entire outside of the mug, and “I love you” is painted on the bottom inside the cup. I see a special message from him each time I’ve finished a cup of coffee!
My favorite coffee mug is a pink breast cancer awareness travel mug from Caribou. My favorite mug for tea is a pottery mug with a dragonfly on it (I collect everything “dragonfly” that I can!) that I acquired while vacationing in northern Wisconsin…it reminds me of more relaxing times!
My favorite mug is the one that looks like the old fashioned diner “to go” cups with the greek columns. It says “have a nice day”. But the one we have is ceramic. But it even has the fake paper seam.
I have a large mug (2.5 cups) that I have been lugging around since college and is reserved for Saturday AMs only!
I am a student and I bring my lunch time tea in my RED stainless steel 12 oz thermos. Piping hot every time.
Honestly, my current favorite is not exactly a cup or a mug, but rather a stainless Thermos can holder, since I normally drink Arizona Sun Tea’s Raspberry Iced Tea. I do have a couple of mugs that I love from Copper Harbor, Michigan, with pictures of the woods with a moose on them, if I am having a cup of tea. 🙂 (I’m not a coffee drinker. My mom tried, beginning when I was 3 years old, with my own demitasse cup of coffee that was literally half milk and sugar. She was sad that I just do not care for coffee, although I love the smell of fresh coffee brewing in the morning, along with bacon cooking.:-) )
My fave mug is a big oversized mug handmade by a local pottery with fish on fron t and back in green celadon glaze.
My favorite mug is a discontinued travel mug from a local coffee shop in Rochester, NY where my sister lives. It’s a standard metal travel mug, but it has this awesome crossing-sign design: the figure crossing is holding a steaming mug. I bring it to work with me every day.
For drinking out of I prefer my Fiesta mugs. They have that old-time diner feeling to them. My favorite sentimental mug is a Tweety bird mug that I got when I temped at a toy company that made products for the Warner Bros and Disney stores. I bought several mugs with different Warner Bros characters on them. During a cross country move all of them broke but the Tweety Bird mug.
I wish I had a nice pottery mug to use! I guess my current mug, an old plastic one from some now-defunct coffee shop, isn’t my favorite but my “steady.” When I want to feel pampered, I use a real china cup and saucer and brew blueberry green tea with honey purchased from a roadside vendor near Gutenberg, Iowa. Just the right thing for when I have overchallenged myself with yet another knitting project.
y favorite mmug is one that I bought last fall at Sugarloaf Crafts Festival. Big and Blue and somewhat rustic looking. It makes me happy just ot look at it!
My favorite is an Italian mug I bought in Sienna years ago. It’s hand-painted, with cherries, grapes, and an apple on it. They’re all growing from the same vine, which is a good trick if you can do it.
My favorite mug is the bright red one sitting on my office desk – a gift from a good friend. The best part? It has a tea diffuser that fits right inside along with a lid to keep your tea warm or rest the diffuser on without any spills!
My favorite mug I got on a trip to Santa Fe, it is large stoneware with four different owls around the sides. Each owl has a different expression, one is dreamy, one is mad, one is flashing some kind of hand sign (wing sign?) and the last looks overwhelmed. I love the mug because it is big and cozy, and also because my husband jokes that the owls look just like me in all of my various moods (and will point out which owl I am that day whenever I use the mug).
I love the ladybug mug my mom got me – it’s a little oversized, bright, and cheery. Perfect for an early cup of tea at work! And ladybugs are good luck, which can’t hurt 🙂
I prefer mugs. My favorite is one that my son, who is a potter, made a while ago.
My favorite mug is my Intelligentsia mug. It’s just the right size for my a.m. latte, and is sturdy and heavy.
Second fave is the mug I got when my husband and I did spring break in Zion Nat’l Park — it’s a very pretty handmade mug, similar to yours but different colors.+
My favorite mug is a an extra large porcelain mug with an Edward Hopper print, Nighthawks, on the side. I bought it at Wegmans many years ago but it is dscontinued now. When it breaks, I will be heartbroken.
My favorite is a white mug with a pink pig and it fits perfectly on my desktop coffee warmer ( those are the greatest and actually keep soup warm to eat and work). I do think the tea cups are very pretty, but i am clumsy and for daily use prefer a mug.
My favorite mugs have to be the one with a black background and little white Hawaiian turtles. I love the Hawaiian turtle pattern even though I’ve never been to Hawaii. My other favorite mug, which I seldom use (due to a fear of damaging it) is one I got while living in New York. It represents a wonderful time I had with a classmate going to a Christmas bazaar at one of the cathedrals on the upper west side. It is a handmade ceramic mug that reminds me of a heart shaped lily pad with a swirly handle. It’s also a very lovely shade of bluish gray. Such wonderful memories.
My friend Beth from my knitting circle gave me my favorite mug. It is from Starbucks & it is ivory but it has a raised cable knit pattern – like braille on it. I love my mug & I love my friend & I love knitting. 🙂
I have a mug decorated with flying fish on the outside (the inside is tea-stained).
Every time I use it I am tranported back to 1984, when I spent nearly the entire summer in Barbados. I sold my Nikon for the airline ticket and stayed at the house of my boyfriend’s aunt, cooking for her every week night to earn our keep.
We were broke and in love and although I am very happy and content in my current situation, I use this mug and gring, time traveling back 25 years.
If there was ever a fire in my house, I’d grab photos, that one skien of Wollmeise I scored and the flying fish mug.
By the way, I GRIN, not GRING…
My favorite mug is one that my dear friend got me for Christmas a few years ago. It’s from Jennie the Potter, and it’s a handcrafted knitters mug, with a super cute sheep and yarn/ needles on it. I can’t start my morning off right without a cup of coffe in my mug!
My favorite mug is tall plastic travel mug. I think it was a give away from westlaw or barbri, or one of the other vendors who hock their goods to law students.
I like it because it doesn’t make the screechy sound if a fingernail accidentally hits against it, and it’s just an all around comfortable cup.
Back in college (30ish years ago) I bought two mugs to have in my dorm room. I still have one of them and it is my favorite – tall with a band of flowers around the middle. Perfect for tea, hot chocolate or soup. I don’t like to use it too much since there is only one left.
I do not have one mug, but have several that I use regularly. At home, it is mostly Longaberger mugs, and my Loopy Anniversary mug fits in my car’s cup holders so if I need a cup to go, I take that.
I like to drink my tea from a teacup. I have several pretty ones, some dainty and some not-so-dainty. My favorite is a large tea cup (with saucer) from Williams Sonoma. It has blue stripes, green leaves and yellow flowers. Pretty!
I have two favorite mugs… for my morning cup of coffee, I love my Happy Bunny mug that says “Mornings Suck Big Time” (clearly, I am not a morning person, nor do I pretend to be one)
For my tea habit, I love my For Life tea mug which came with its own tea infuser and lid. Keeps my tea warm while I forget about it during a knit sessions or two. 😉
