Late Night Owl or Early Bird & a CONTEST!

DSC01780.JPGIt always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:

  • Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
  • Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
  • sKNITches Syncopation Striping
  • Gypsy Knits BFL
  • All Things Heather
  • Great Adirondack Silky Sock
  • J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
  • Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
  • ShibuiKnits
  • Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
  • Lawre’s Laine BigBags
  • Offhand Designs Bags
  • Sock Blockers
  • New Wendy Knits patterns

And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)

DSC01832.JPGI had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)

-15Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.

This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

  1. I am definitely a Night Owl. I’d rather not see the early morning hours unless it’s absolutely unavoidable.

I’d probably prefer a Sneak up at about 9 or 10 o’clock at night Monday-Thursday. I’m nearly always up then with my computer in my lap.

  2. I would have to say that I am neither. If my little one is up early, than I am an early bird. But my kids go to bed early…then i am a night owl. I must say I fall into the night owl catergory if I am wating for a sneak-up. I just can’t wait to see what new items you are going to be putting up!!! I am addicted!! I think it is best for you to be random about the time you post it…that way it is a surprise!!

  3. In a perfect world (or if I’m dyeing) I would be a night owl… But my full-time job requires me to be an early bird. Alas. 😉 I love it when sneak ups happen at 9pm. 😉 But during the day is fun too, since I can then watch the yarn sell out from work.

  4. Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up?

I’m definately a Night Owl. As to the ideal time for a Sneak UP – When I’m online checking out your site of course!!!

  5. I am a night owl, but have learned to function as an early bird. My ideal sneak up time would be 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. (during office hours since I don’t currently have internet at home:-))

  6. I LOVE to go to bed early… but I also LOVE to sleep in… Hmmm
Since our son has come home though, I have to be an early bird!
Favorite sneak up time?? Early in the week and during the day.

  7. I am SO a night owl….. Favorite sneak up time would be late in the week during the afternoon….just as I am ready to finish up work for the day!

  8. Early, Early! 6-8 am would be my favorite time for a sneak. I’m at my work desk at 7:15 AM EST. That’s when I check out my favorite sites (Loopy Ewe is always first!!)

  9. An Early Bird here! I’m a complete morning person – I’m one of those obnoxiously cheerful morning people – but after lunch, I start my slow decline and by the early evening, I’m ready for bed. I like Sneak-ups during the day so I can browse at the office while I wait for my experiments to finish 🙂

  10. I’ m probably more of a night owl, but if I have to be up the next morning, it’s has to be early to bed for me. As for Sneak-Up times, any time is a good Sneak-Up time!!

  11. Oh, I’m a night owl, for sure! I would love to be able to sleep late everyday. My favorite time for a sneakup is just the same time as the sneakup was this week! Latenight sneakups are great!

  12. Oooh, I guess I’d say night owl. I’m trying to change that, considering as of two weeks ago I’m no longer a college student and come July I’ll start work and my first day starts at 7:45am. Ew. Best time for a sneak-up would be 10-10:30pm EST, just when I check my email for the day.

  13. Q: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird?
A: Definitely a night owl, though having a daytime job requires me to get up earlier than I like. My husband is an early bird, so we often seem like ships passing in the night.

Q: And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up?
    A: Hmm, I’ll say… Friday night at 11pm.

  14. I am an early bird, sometimes not by choice, but I do do my best work in the morning. A Sneak-up in the early evening would be great!

  15. Night owl… though, I still try to get up early so I can get home for work at a reasonable time, which means I get too little sleep because when I should go to sleep (10 pm), I’m futzing around on the computer or knitting or whatever. Sneak ups… whenever suits your fancy!

  16. I’d much rather have to get up early than stay up late. 5am would be much better than midnight for me.

  17. Night owl – definitely. Before bed, I love to lie in my bed and surf the internet (which, for me, is mainly knitting related), and stay up later than I should. But, I’m relaxing at least. 11-midnight for times I guess …. but then, when I have bought something in a sneak up, it got me excited, which would make it hard to fall asleep after!

  18. I used to be such a night owl, but the older I get, the more of an early bird I become. (Has anyone else noticed that happening to them?) I find that on weekends when I am able to sleep in, I just can’t seem to stay in bed much past 6:30 or 7:00. And, of course, once I start thinking about a nice cup of coffee, that does it. So, as much as I hate to admit it, I guess my perfect sneak-up time would be 6:30 a.m. eastern time.

Welcome to Florida, College Guy. We’re glad to have you here! Oh, and Sheri, if you really like our squirrels, I have a few dozen in my yard that I’d be happy to send your way. The little buggers are eating me out of house and home…birdseed-wise, I mean.

  19. Total night owl. But, I prefer sneak ups early in the morning, since I get to work at 7:30 and check in on my computer then.

  20. I’m a night owl. I work 9-6 (no kids or husband, either), so I don’t have to get up as early as most people. The only bad thing is I don’t have a computer at home, so I have to wait until lunch at work to access personal items on the computer.

  21. I’m a total Night Owl! I usually stay up knitting or browsing online yarn stores and knit blogs! In my opinion, the ideal time for a sneak up would be 9pm Eastern (that way my kids would be in bed;o)

  22. I am both really, have alot to do at night so am up when others are in bed, but also have to be up and hit the ground running in the am. Probably more of an early bird at heart. Best time for a sneak for me is 10 pm Mountain Time any week night.

  23. I used to be a Night Owl, then I became a mom and now am forced due to work and children to be an early riser. so not sure what to claim….I’ll take Sneak ups any time…..thanks!

  24. I am a night owl and would like to see the update at 11 p.m., but I am willing to take them anytime!

  25. Total night owl here — I do well to get to bed by 3:00 am, and staying up till 4 or 5 is not unusual. My perfect sneak-up time would be between 1 and 2 am Pacific time, which means 3 to 4 in the morning on Loopy time. I think I’d practically have the store to myself then — bwahahahaha!

  26. 🙂
It depends – I’ve been known to be awake at 3am with my dyes….
and at the same time, once I *am* awake in the morning (as early as 4:30 – but not after a 3am dye session 😉 ) I’m happy to remain awake – I usually like to crash for a leisurely nap on the weekend tho 😀

  27. Late, late, late. My energy level reaches its’ peak at about 10:00 at night and stays at that level until about 2:00 in the morning. unfortunately, I need to be up by 6 o’clock to get kids to school, work, dog walks, etc. before I go to work. It is the best time to knit and watch Law and Order reruns. My house is quiet and it is my favorite time of day. I do wish i was a morning person though.

  28. More an early bird than a night owl. I was up for the last sneak up though due to some weird virus.
I think the best time for a sneak up would be Fri afternoon. Seriously, anytime you want to do a sneak up is fine. You folks are the only ones with the best insight to what is going on at Loopy Central to know the best time.

  29. I’m a night owl – I think it’s the inevitable result of postgraduate study! And since I’m on the other side of the world, sneak ups after 9pm are ideal. I’ve actually had a coffee before trying to choose between gorgeous new yarns!

  30. I’m on the night owl side; don’t like getting up early because I tend to be grouchy. I like sneak ups to be between nine and ten pm.

  31. I’m an early bird but don’t have time in the morning to go online and buy. So my favorite time for a sneak up would be around 5-8 pm PST

  32. I’m neither a night owl or an early bird – I like to sleep!

In any case, my favorite time for a sneak up would be on Wednesdays 7-9, because that is our guild meeting and it would be really fun to have a group together to all squeal at the sneakup together.

  33. I am definitely a night owl. I always go online around 3 or 4 am just before I go to bed.
If I stayed up much later, I would be bumping into the early birds.

  34. I have the best of both worlds – no bed before 2 AM for me and I am up by 5:30AM to do my walk with the dogs. I do have a lovely nap in the afternoon for about two or three hours when my grandsons are tucked in for their rests.

Sneak up on me anytime! My credit card is always awake!!!

  35. I’m a complete Early Bird. Usually at the gym by 530 am ET and home by 630 am, the ideal time for a sneak up (for me) would be 7 am ET, when I am surprisingly alert and craving some yarny goodness!!!

  36. Hmmm, I can’t stay up too late, and yet I’d rather sleep in, what does that make me? Lazy I suppose! Keep sneaking up whenever you like, I’ll do my best.

  37. I’m definitely an early bird. I get up most days by 6 am and even on weekends by 7.

I’d like to see a sneak-up either around 7am when I’m at the computer eating breakfast or around noon when I’m there at work eating lunch! 🙂

Other than that, it’s hit or miss!

  38. I don’t think I could possibly be any more of a night owl….I’m still on college time 🙂

I’m glad you had a great trip to Ft. Lauderdale and that KD has had a wonderful time in Alaska, how beautiful!

  39. Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird?
I am totally a night owl, but unfortunately my job requires that I get to bed at a semi-decent hour.

And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up?
It would be at night between midnight and two on a Friday or Saturday. That is my favorite time of day but I can rarely stay up that late.

  40. I am a Nite Owl … but am living the life of an early bird (work!). I do my best work after midnight — it is when the creativity in me just comes burbling forth.

Sneak ups late at night are great… due to time changes, you won’t be able to make everyone happy anyway (it’ll always be inconvenient for some … so do what is best for you!)

  41. I’m a nite owl but I normally check out your website in the morning (7am EST) since that is when I get in to work! lol

  42. I am definitely an Early Bird. I like to think that I can stay up late, but the truth is that I don’t function too well when I am tired. But I always wake up early and enjoy the hour or so alone in the morning before the hubby gets up. and I have to make breakfast and start the day. The best time for the sneak up for me would be at around noon eastern time. I shop the most on my lunch break at the office. 🙂
