Late Night Owl or Early Bird & a CONTEST!

DSC01780.JPGIt always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:

  • Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
  • Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
  • sKNITches Syncopation Striping
  • Gypsy Knits BFL
  • All Things Heather
  • Great Adirondack Silky Sock
  • J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
  • Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
  • ShibuiKnits
  • Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
  • Lawre’s Laine BigBags
  • Offhand Designs Bags
  • Sock Blockers
  • New Wendy Knits patterns

And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)

DSC01832.JPGI had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)

-15Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.

This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

Sheri whowouldideallyliketobeBOTHanightowlandanearlybird-howcanImakethatwork?

  1. Early bird here. I worked for 2 years at a place with early hours (6 AM to 4:30 PM), so I got used to waking up at 4:30. Now that I don’t work there anymore I do sleep in an extra hour. I find the mornings to be most productive for me. So, an ideal sneak up time might be between 6:30 to 7:30 am. : )

  2. WOW! there are a lot of people who like this question, it seems…..300+!! anyway, I am the Supreme Night Owl…..I like the wee hours, like 1-2am. I actually start getting going around 10:30pm and have figured out this must be related to kids, laundry and not having to talk with anyone the next day…only my kidlings. I always get up with them at 6:30am and make lunches (always have, always will) and have stayed up doing the things that need to be done. I tend to start dieing around 3pm, but it passes….and coffee doesn’t seem to do anything for it (a nap, you say? that would be ideal….a little 20 minute thingy).

Maybe I should have Loopy on the screen at the later night hours to watch for the good stuff to appear!

  3. If I had my druthers, I would be a Night Owl. But now that I’m working days and have a very long commute, I’m definitely an Early Bird. Mostly I just want to look at the pretty yarn when I’m sleepy…which is all the time. 🙂

  4. Crud, I forgot part 2! I like a sneak-up to vary, so we all get a fair shot at it.

And I have a great Loopy vacation story for you, Sheri, once I get all the pictures together!

  5. sKNITches? what sKNITches? Oh sKNITch. Missed that choice again. I love your sneakups.

  6. I am definitely an early bird. I love to be up when no one else is.
Saturday morning would be a PERFECT time for a sneak–up!

  7. I’m both a night-owl and an early raiser which makes for a very sleep deprived life. But in a perfect world I’d go to sleep when I want and sleep until I want to get up.

Weekdays, 7am-4:30pm, are perfect for me because that’s when I’m sitting in front of my computer.

  8. I’m a total early bird, for me the day begins around 5a,and an ideal Sneak-Up for me would be any weekday around 6a.

  9. I like switching it around – giving everyone a chance. I’m neither a night owl or an early bird when it comes to getting computer time. If I’m lucky to have time on my break or lunch at work or kick one of my kids or husband off the computer at home that’s when I get a chance to check out what’s new.

  10. I’m definitely an Early Bird. I’m up at 4am. Good time for me would be 4:30 to 5:30 am. I do have my computer on all day at work so I try to never turn it on when i get home. That’s my knitting time and I’m usually in bed by 9 pm.

  11. I am a night owl by nature, but an early bird by my children’s nature. I often have to send them back to bed because it’s not six yet. 🙂

Though I must say I love being up early, before anyone else is awake. It’s so peaceful and everything seems fresh.

  12. I go to bed at 11:30 – 11:40pm and up at 5:15am. So I think I’m both. When I can sleep in on the weekends, I find myself waking early :/ However, I too find the early time peaceful. Several times I’ve just turned off my iPhone at 11:40pm to find the sneak-up happened minutes later….darn. I’m going to have to go to bed a little later. 🙂

  13. I’m definitely an early bird, but don’t usually get on the computer before 7am. So, 7am Central time would be ideal for me. Although, since I’m not an “official” groupie just yet, I spend a lot of time going to the Loopy Ewe site and “refreshing” to make sure I don’t miss something new. 🙂

  14. I’m an early bird….I go to work early (6am) many days so I get up at 4:30. I usually check Ravelry before I go to work, and the sneak-ups are always posted on the Loopy Ewe board….so that time of day would be perfect for a sneak-up!

  15. I’m definitely a night owl, but I’m usually not on the computer that late. So my ideal sneak up time is afternoon when I’m on the computer at work. So easy to bribe myself to do some work if I’ve bought some yarn!

  16. By nature I would be an early bird but with 3 lovely children between 3 and 9 and a wonderful DH, late at night is the only time I have strictly to myself. (And everyone needs some “me” time. 🙂 So I guess now I’m a night owl.

  17. This is a toughy! I like being both, which makes for weird days. The quiet in the house after everyone is in bed is a good time for “me time”, do my best knitting and other crafting, so I go to bed late. I also get up early 5:30 for work. Weekends I LOVE getting up early, have coffee in the back yard with my dear fiance. If he’s working out of town, I still go out back with my knitting. Ok, guess I’m both! The ideal time for a sneak up for me would be about 8am, when I’m at work and on the computer!!!

  18. I’m definitely not an early bird and am getting to be less and less of a night owl. 🙁 I have yet to catch a Sneak up — pretty sad! If you had one around 9 am or 10 pm, maybe I could actually see what they’re all about—I know there’s LOTS of yarn!! Sounds great!!

  19. I am a night owl. 10 years of tending bar thru my twenties did it to me. The kids go to bed, the husband as well, the news is over….so maybe a sneak up @ 12 a.m. EST.
Then my husband wouldn’t be looking over my shoulder saying what are you buying NOW?

  20. I’m most definitely a night owl. However, since I’m on the computer all the time at work, I rarely go online when I’m at home at night during the week. I’m too busy knitting and watching TV at that time. So the best Sneak Up time for me is 9:00 am. M-F. When I get to work, that’s about the time I’m checking my home email where I get my Loopy Groupie Head’s Up. Plus, like the post before mine, the DH can’t suspect a thing.

  21. I’m an early bird, but as I work most mornings the ideal sneakup time for me would be in the pm.

  22. The older I get the more of a night owl I become. Though I would love to up very early in the AM to enjoy the serenity, I go to bed much too late for that. As for ideal sneakup times, the evening is probably best.

BTW, my friend & her husband left for a 2 week trip to Alaska last Monday. I’m on kitty duty. I’ve been uploading pics of their Maine Coon Cats to my Flickr & they check them out at the end of their day of sight seeing.

  23. I’m a night owl…I think that I am still transitioning off of ‘college time.’ Getting up for a real world just can be rough if you were up too late the night before. I would say that my ideal sneak up time would be mid-afternoon, somewhere between 2-4pm.

  24. I’m more of a night owl than an early bird, but that said, I rarely sleep past 7 a.m., and am usually in bed by 10:30 p.m. Someday when I get to live my perfect life of knitting and spinning all day, I’ll get to live the schedule I want.

I prefer evening Sneak Ups. After 7 p.m. Mountain time.

  25. I’m totally a night owl. I’m constantly up at all hours of the night, and just last night my Mum woke up and walked out to get a drink and saw me walking toward my room and asked me what I was doing. I replied going to bed, and she said, “Wow, early.” This was at 2 in the morning. Insomnia is vicious.
Sneak ups……. Saturday @ 1 PM central time is ideal.

  26. I am *such* an early bird. I wake up at 6am without an alarm (though funnily enough, I don’t tend to knit in the mornings. Mornings are my thinking/research/school time). Definitely not a night owl, as I’m usually in bed by 10pm, so Sneak Ups that are late at night aren’t so great for me (except for how they are, because they keep me from buying too much if everyone’s taken care of it all for me!).

  27. I’m normally a late night owl, but currently expecting our 8th child, so bedtime is earlier than usual 🙂 Wake-up time hasn’t changed much, interestingly….LOL Anyway, my ideal time for a sneak-up would be about 9:30 a.m. as the kids are usually up and taken care of and I’ve got a few minutes to sit at the computer and eat *my* breakfast. (that’s central time, btw 🙂

  28. I’m an early bird. I love drinking my coffee and reading the paper as the sun starts to come up. I also get a lot of my cleaning done then before I leave for school. A day with middle school kids wears me out, so I go to bed early.

An ideal Sneak up time for me would be 5 – 5:30 a.m. CST. I’m on checking blogs, Ravelry, etc.

  29. I’m definitely a nightowl. I don’t function in the morning that well. An ideal Sneak-up time of course is while I’m at work. I have internet access and check email all day long so anytime during the day after 8am but before 3:30 CT would be awesome!

  30. I’m a Night Owl, which makes days interesting since I married an Early Bird. I now tend to be awake on both ends of the day and a Napping Nightingale in the mid-afternoon, if I can get away with it.

The ideal time for a sneakup is after 8 PM eastern, when I can flash colors at my husband and ask opinions once in a while. Although if you do them during the workday, I can sneak some yarn, too.

  31. Totally a Night Owl – it’s the only way I get any knitting time after my son has gone to bed! My ideal Sneak Up would not be at 7:30am Pacific time like the last Wollmeise order, that’s for sure. For me, four or five in the afternoon, when my day is dragging and I could use something fun to look at and drool over as a distraction for a couple minutes.

  32. I’m a night owl. I can stay up until 1 AM not problem, but then I want to sleep until 9 AM. I still want my 8 hours 🙂 So, it has been killing me that I have to be up at 5:30 every morning this week and next week too. I missed the last sneak up because I forced myself to go to bed early. I think the best time for a sneak up for me is 9 PM EST. Being on the east coast has it’s disadvantages with sneak ups if you have to go to bed early.

  33. Apparently I can’t figure out which one… I’m up late, then get up at 5am in the morning- bad habit – I’m an hour behind Loopy central, so that helps, but all the good shows are on till 10pm, so can’t go to bed too early… I’m off on Fridays – so that would be my preferred day…. or early sat morning… I always seem to be up early on Sat too…

I’ve caught quite a few while at work too …

  34. Hello everyone. I am an elementary art teacher, so I am usually up by 5:30 am every morning, but once school is out, I am a die-hard night owl….like I go to bed when my husband is getting up for work at 4:00 am…:) It’s a lot easier to knit in the peace and quiet, so Sheri, you keep doing those sneaks whenever you like! Take good care y’all. Jo

  35. Also a night owl here! I WISH I could be a morning person… there are so many morning-y things I’d like to do when the morning is still peaceful and stuff, but it is always such an ordeal to drag myself out of bed every morning! My ideal sneakup time is probably around 11pm… I caught the last sneakup right when it happened… unfortunately I was stupid enough to think the sKNITches would still be there in the morning, so I missed out! I’ll be kicking myself about that one for a long time! 🙂

  36. I am definitely a night owl. However, I’m not one to be grumpy when I get up in the morning. I don’t always require a lot of sleep, and I like to get the most productivity out of my day (and my knitting time) as possible. It just seems like times flies by so fast that before you now it, it is way past that reasonable time when I should have went to bed….usually before I do that though i get a little web browsing in.
My ideal time for a sneakup would be 9pm Eastern.

  37. I am so a night owl and am not a moring person my ideal sneak up time would be between 9pm and 11pm which is when I do most of my Knitting

  38. I am def a night owl. I really enjoy knitting at night when the house is quiet. I love how calm and safe our home feels at night. 🙂

A perfect sneak up time for me is late late on a week night during the summer. Since I am a school counselor I am off during most of the summer, so I can revert to my night owl ways.

  39. Definitely a night owl. Always have been. I have been known to knit until the sun comes up and then go up to bed. I just prefer night, the quiet, the dogs sleeping at my feet, my nice music playing…and it’s “my” time. I think around 10 pm would be ideal time for sneakup.

  40. If I didn’t have to get up to go to work I would be a night owl but unfortunately I’m one of those people who really needs at least 8 hours of sleep. 🙁 So I can’t stay up late knitting even though I want to. And I still hate mornings

I guess for me the ideal sneak up is one that happens while I’m at my desk at work so I can quickly get to your store. 🙂

  41. I am a “forced” early bird, ’cause I have to get up early to have some “alone” knitting time. I would rather go to bed around 1:00 a.m. and get up around 9:00 a.m. Not sleeping at all would give us all ever so much more knitting time, don’t cha think?!?!?

As for an ideal time for a sneak up, I’d have to say around 6:15 a.m. Probably a really good time for a lot of us. We do LOVE those sneak-ups!!!!!

  42. I am an early bird but do not check my fun site until about 10am mountain time would be good for me!

  43. The older I get, the earlier I go to bed… though my grandma goes to bed at around 2am (she tells me)

I like that the sneak ups change times so everyone has a chance at it hitting at their best time, if that makes sense. Spread the loopy love. 🙂
