It always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:
- Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
- Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
- sKNITches Syncopation Striping
- Gypsy Knits BFL
- All Things Heather
- Great Adirondack Silky Sock
- J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
- Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
- ShibuiKnits
- Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
- Lawre’s Laine BigBags
- Offhand Designs Bags
- Sock Blockers
- New Wendy Knits patterns
And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)
I had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)
Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.
This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

Definitely a Night Owl, and finally have a job where I can roll in between 9 and 10 and no one looks at me funny. Even though I’m usually up late, I’m often not near the computer and keep forgetting to check email on my phone, so the best time for me to catch a Sneak Up immediately is during the day when I’m chained to my computer. But considering my ever-growing stash, missing a few Sneak Ups is not such a bad thing 🙂
Denifitely a Night Owl – you do NOT want to meet me in the morning 🙂 As far as when is the best time to catch a sneak-up…unfortunately, it’s while I am at work. If I am on the phone with a long winded Tenant, I just pop on your website and do a quick check!
Seeing the pic of Alaska makes me want to go back – hope KD is having fun!
I would love to be a night owl, but unfortunately my work requires me to be up early so I am forced to be an early bird. I love the afternoon or early evening sneak ups because that is usually when I can be on the computer. The late night ones always pass me by until all the good stuff is gone.
Early bird, since I have to get up at 4 AM (Eastern time) to get ready to work. So, a sneak up around 4:15 would be just right. 😉
I’m definitely an early bird, but not early enough to beat out the East Coast! I rarely catch SneakUps, unless they’re on my lunch break or at night
I’m a night owl, but work early bird times. Really bad combo!
My ideal time would be between midnight and three AM, Eastern.
I’m a lark. Such a lark. Most days I wake up by 5 a.m. without an alarm clock.
Once I’ve gotten my laptop to communicate with the Internet again, the perfect time for a Sneak Up would be about 4:30 a.m. EST any day Monday-Friday. I feel like I get such a lot done before 7 a.m.!
I’m more lark (early bird) than owl, although my bio-rhythms want to shift really badly in the summer here in the Northwest (very long days, short nights). The best sneak up times for me are normally during our workday because I’m on the computer then anyway. However, I have to say that I just sort of pass on the “competitive yarn shopping” these days. I have some regular lines that I like and I watch for “sneak up” notices on those to see if some of the sold out colorways have been restocked. But…as much as I ADORE the Wollmeise skein I got in the sock club, it’s just not worth it anymore to try scoring any of that in a sneak-up; I’m pretty convinced I have a better chance of getting a decent winning lottery ticket 😉
Squirrels get past their fear of humans pretty fast once they recognize them as food sources! They can be pretty entertaining.
I’m a night owl who has had to become an Early Bird for my job….I would prefer to stay up late and read or knit, but I have to go to bed early so I can get up early for the commute…sight.
I like the sneak-ups that are after 6:30 pm MT during the week – I can’t check my personal e-mail at work since they have all those sites blocked in the firewall, so I don’t get a chance to check my mail and see the “heads up” until I get home.
On the venting side – now they have blocked ravelry so I can’t even visually fondle my yarn….darn it.
Oh that sneaky Loopy! I was hoping to be able to take him to Alaska! We’re waiting on news (a job for dh) to see if we’re moving there. It’s home for me. 🙂 Where did she get to visit?! My family lives in SE… tiny town. I love it of course.
Me… oh night owl FOR SURE. No matter what time I wake up, I don’t REALLY wake up until noon. My brain refuses to function fully until then. And it really wakes up after 9pm. Of course I married an early bird… which makes life interesting. 🙂
Ideal Sneak up… 2-3pm pacific time any weekday. IE – it’s naptime and I head to the computer for a little down time!
Would you believe BOTH! I’m up in the morning at 5:15 to go to the gym to workout in the pool…and I go to bed no earlier than 11:00 p.m, and often considerably later than that.
I missed the Sneak Up this week because I got taken to the ER on Sunday and had a cardiac catheterization with stent placement on Monday morning. Today was my first day back at the computer. All is well and I’m feeling better than I have in weeks. The cardiologist told my husband that “instead of blood running through my artery, the were walking single-file hand in hand.”
I would like to warn anyone reading that my symptoms of heart attack did not follow “chest pain”, per se. I first had a very hard clenching type pain in my right jaw (which is definitely strange because I have no feeling in that side of my face as it has been blocked because of trigeminal neuralgia)…followed by intense hot flash and nausea, and by the time I got to my bedroom, pain under my left armpit that radiated over my shoulders and a bit into my breast. At this my husband called 9-1-1 and I’m happy to report that two firetrucks arrived within 3 minutes, followed closely by an ambulance. I was stabilized at our local hospital and transferred over to U.C. Medical Center at midnight.
What brought it on: We had been laughing our way through The Full Monty. I must have gotten twitterpated at all those naked men. D’ya think? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Joan
I am a night owl wanting to be an early bird! I would love to be out and about at the break of day, but since I don’t have to, I sleep!
11 AM would be the best time for a snak up for me!
Any day, any time, just keep the good stuff comin’.
Well, I am married to a farmer who often gets up very early so I’d like to say I’m an early bird but in reality I’m a total night owl!
Best time for sneak-ups for me would be anywhere from 9pm-midnight central time.
I am both an early bird and a night owl, what I am not is an afternoon… chicken? Whatever you are if you can be lively and functional in the late morning, afternoon and evening, I am not that. I like mornings and nights, but I try not to be too nocturnal. So sneak ups…. for me it doesn’t much matter, though I tend to have class in the mornings so the middle of the night is preferable.
I’m a night owl!! I work the evening shift and don’t get home until 1am. Then I have to sit and relax a little bit before heading off to bed. The perfect sneak up time for me would be 10pm. I’m usually not busy at work then and I’m always checking my email.
I love the late night Sneakups! I’ve always been a night owl, but when I was working I was in bed by 7:30, usually–I had to get up at 2:45 to be at the airport by 5 a.m.
At least there wasn’t any traffic at that hour!
Now I generally read until 1 a.m, and I like this so much better. Getting up at 2:45 is not fun!
I’m a Night Owl by nature but an Early Bird by choice! Crazy as it sounds but a New Year’s Resolution of getting fit and doing so while my kids and hubby are still asleep has turned me into a complete Early Bird. I find myself wanting to stay up late to knit though so sometimes it stinks when the internal clock wakes me at 5:15 am when I’d prefer it not!
Best time for a sneak up for me is around 8:00 am!
Oh I am definitely a night owl, but since my job requires me to get up at 4:30 am, I think I am a forced early bird. Otherwise though, I’m up till 2 or 3 am some nights.
Ideal sneak up time would be mid afternoon. Just because it’s the kid’s nap time. 😉
Like you, I am a real night owl. Ideal sneak up time for me would be around 11:30 p.m. EDT……..Do my best yarn surfing around then…………
Definitely a Night Owl. Unfortunately, this conflicts with a daytime career. Let me tell you, 4:45 a.m. rolls around painfully early in the morning!
Best time for a sneak up for me would be at around 9:30 – 10:00 p.m. I most always do one last check of the computer before bed (which I try to hit by 11:00 p.m.)
I am an Early Bird. I have real trouble staying up after 9 pm but seem to wake up between 4 & 4:30 am even on weekends. My best time for a sneak up would be around 4:30 am eastern time
I’m definitely a Night Owl. My best time for a sneak-up would be around 11:45pm… and I’d sit here and F5 my little heart out! 😉
Used to be a night owl, now I’m an early bird. It comes with aging, I believe. My best time for a sneak up would be 7 am central.
I’m a night owl. Ask anyone who knows me. I am counting the years until my daughter can reliably get herself off to school alone in the morning and I can go back to my natural rythyms. I’d never be able to work a shift job unless I never had to do the one that started early in the morning.
My ideal time for a sneak up is 10 seconds after I have loaded http://www.theloopyewe.com and 2 seconds before I click on What’s New. Otherwise, not Thursdays (because I have to spend too much time too far from a computer that day) and not next Tuesday (ditto) otherwise, I’m not that particular.
Loopy almost got to move to Norway with us for six months but apparently we aren’t going after all. Which I was bummed about until just now when I realized how much it would have cost me in international postage for my Loopy packages.
I’m definitely an Early Bird! I do all of my checking up on the internets first thing in the morning… 6:30-7AM central would be an ideal sneak-up time for me, right when my credit card is fresh from a good night’s sleep! I can’t sit at the computer during the work day, so I like to get all my emails triaged and blog updated before heading out the door. (This also means that I *invariably* miss out on daytime sneak-ups.)
Night Owl here, though circumstances (read: kiddos and school) usually force me into being an Early Bird… I’m really at my best after 9 pm though. Between 9 and 11pm would be my best sneak up time 🙂
Night owl. No question about it. Ideal sneak-up time? I don’t know. It’s relatively rare that I stalk a sneak-up. Until I knit through some of the Loopy Loot I already have, I can resist better than I give myself credit for 🙂
Both Night Owl and Early Bird: Originally I was a morning person, but I married a night person, and now I have to pull a lot of all-nighters to meet work deadlnes. Best time for me is 10 pm PST, since I check email before going to bed, and this gives me the best selection, before all the folks “back East” get into the act! 🙂
A bit of both, I think. New puppy forces me out of bed earlier than I usually like these days, but I also can’t keep my eyes open after 10pm but I guess I would have to say Early Bird.
I’m not really either, I just like to sleep! I do like getting up early better than I like staying up late though, as long as I can have a cup of coffee.
My ideal sneak-up time would be 1:30 pm, California time. That’s when both of my boys are napping and I get to sit down for a little computer time.
I’m an early bird. Always have been, and will be, and the kids have made me even more so… LOL
Best time for sneak ups? anytime during the day. To tell you the truth, I have always gotten what I want from Loopy Ewe, my patience pays off. If I don’t get it the first time, it’s OK, I usually get it later, after the frenzy dies down.
Loopy’s Red Striping socks??? how did I miss this???? Is there a picture somewhere out there???
Hmmmmmmmm
I’m definitely a night owl. I always worked the night shift as a nurse and even now, I’m often up til 3 or 4 am. I do love early mornings, the sun coming up and all, I just prefer to be watching it as I’m getting ready to go to bed! The funny is, both my mom and my brother work the night shifts. 🙂
My ideal sneak-up time would probably be between 2 and 3pm EST because that’s my usual check-in on the computer time during the day. I tend to either spin, knit, or game if I’m on the computer during my late owlness. So I miss out. But whatever time you do it is fine because it gives everyone a chance at a sneak-up, all around the world. Besides, my bank account couldn’t take catching every sneak-up!
Oh, I am an eary bird, hate to stay up past 10:00p.m. Love to get up early. Sneak-ups are fine any time. You do a great job, trying to please so many Loopy’s. Hugs
I am definitely a night owl, even though I have to get up very early for work. I think my ideal time for a sneak up would be Midnight-12:30ish…not to early, but not so late that I can’t see what yarns are being put up!
I am definitely an “Early Bird” and my ideal time for a sneak up would be 5:30 AM (I know, I know–ain’t gonna happen…), but I always have my computer on to hear for the tell-tale notification that I have a message–just in case;). I am in Kauai on vacation and so this Sneak-Up, with the time change, was ideal for me.
I’m a morning person. A perfect Sneak-Up time for me would be 6 AM (Central time!).
I missed the one last night. I never think to look in the evening. 🙁
Trust me, Sheri, you DON’T want to be both a night owl and an early bird! I’ve always been a night owl, but for the last year or so I’ve also been an early bird. This means staying up until midnight or later and then being wide awake before 6 am! FPS! The time of day of the Sneak-Ups doesn’t much matter, but can you save them all until November when I have the winter off and have time to knit? Please?
I’m more of a night owl, although really I just like sleep 🙂
My ideal time for a sneak up would be 9PM, Junior would be in bed but I wouldn’t.
I am an early morning person. Best time of day for a sneak up is 5:30 am or 6:30 am. Everything that is hot is already gone by the time I see your sneak-ups.
Cheryl
I am an early bird, even on the weekends I am usually up and about by 5:30 or 6. So, I would love an early in the morning, say 6am sneak up.
I am a wannabe night owl, but I have to get up and go to work. Of course I’m married to a early bird, but has worked for 41 years. Glad you had a great week-end and back safe and sound.
I’m a total night owl, but my job requires me to get up at 5:30, so I rarely get to do what I wish I could (stay up to 3 am) unless it’s summer. The perfect time for me for a sneakup would be around 6:20 in the morning, I always check my email right before I go to school.
Hi Sheri! I’m definitely a night owl, but last night I was sleepy so I missed out! My ideal time would be between 11pm and midnight Central time. I rarely get up early unless I have to be somewhere or the kids have to be at school early.
I’m definitely a night owl. I have to laugh when I see people staying up until 2:00 a.m. – that’s when I’m getting started! I’m up all nigh (literally) and don’t go to bed until around noon. Then I sleep until 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., get up, do what I need to do, and begin knitting. I work on the shop during the night – I get so much done when it’s dark and quiet. I always liked working night shift when I did work, so it’s natural for me. I just don’t like the sun (it interacts with a lot of my meds), so I’d much rather sleep, especially during the hot part of the day. When I lived in Sacramento, I got up around 10:00 a.m. and spent the day in the pool, but I still went to bed around 4:00 a.m. That’s why I hate Daylight Savings Time – we have enough sun as it is, IMHO.
I am a night owl and I work the night shift so I love sneak-ups that don’t take place between noon and 7pm central time because that is when I am attempting to sleep. Anything else is fair game. 🙂 It’s funny, people were just talking on the Loopy Ewe board on ravelry about how much they would love for you to carry the worsted weight Malabrigo! You rock at knowing what your customers want.
I’m definitely an earlybird! Best time for a sneakup in my opinion is 5:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning! That way I can buy to my heart’s content and then seek absolution for over-indulgence at morning Mass! just kidding!
Totally an early bird. I would love a Wollmeise sneak up at 8am please!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m a night owl, but my ideal time for a sneak up is around 9:30 or 10:00 a.m. Eastern. That’s when I have a minute to myself and DH’s not around to see me digging out my wallet! 😉
I’m glad to see Loopy’s getting a vacation. I had a class with Cat Bordhi recently (she was amazing, BTW) and I totally forgot to take him out for a pic! Doh.
Night Owl vs. Early Bird…this changes during the week…I’m weird I know. Early in the week I tend to be an early bird, but later in the week my sleep schedules changes (or maybe I’m just over caffeinated) and I turn into a night owl. Ideal time for a Sneak Up? 6am Eastern;)
I can’t wait to take my picture with Loopy when I go on a mini vacay in June:)
