It always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:
- Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
- Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
- sKNITches Syncopation Striping
- Gypsy Knits BFL
- All Things Heather
- Great Adirondack Silky Sock
- J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
- Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
- ShibuiKnits
- Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
- Lawre’s Laine BigBags
- Offhand Designs Bags
- Sock Blockers
- New Wendy Knits patterns
And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)
I had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)
Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.
This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

I’m definitely an early bird, but of course married a night owl so I try to do both. Usually a Sunday afternoon nap evens things out for the week!! 🙂 I think that you do a great job varying the times and days of the sneak ups!! My ‘ideal’ time would be in the early morning before I’ve done any other online retail therapy that day…
I am a night owl! Lucky for me, my son likes to sleep-in in the mornings!
I can’t believe I missed the sneak up last night! Any time between 10 and 12 pm Central is usually good for me!
Definitely an early bird. I love the quiet and feeling like I’m the only person up for miles around. I lovey it when I get up before the birds so that I can hear them start their early morning chirping. When is the best time for a sneak up? Well that would be a surprize, now wouldn’t it?
I am definitely a night owl, although until school ends on June 27th, I will have to get up early….that being said, I would love a sneak up at about 10:22, when I send my kiddies out for recess and I get those few precious minutes to check on sales and such!
Nicole
I tend toward night owl but have a little early bird in me too. I like the quite hours of the night or morning. So I like to either stay up later than anyone in the family or get up earlier. That is the only time I get to be alone. I would love to see sneak ups later in the week since payday is on Friday! Thursday night works too since the pay check is direct deposited at !2:01AM on Friday.
I am most definitely a night owl. Being in California, the late night sneak ups aren’t all that late for me, which is nice. 🙂
I recently found out that there are actually some people who go to bed before 10 pm. Can you imagine? Then again, there are probably some people who think, “There are people who actually wake up after 6 am? Oh, the horror!”
Hmmm…I guess I am both!! I don’t require a lot of sleep. I get more accomplished when everyone else is asleep. I like being surprised by the Sneak-ups. It’s something to look forward to!
I used to be an early bird. Now I consider myself a mid day kind of girl. I can’t stay up much past 12:30 AM.
I’m really at my best during the middle of the day, but forced to be an early bird due to work issues. My ideal sneak-up time is between midnight and 1 a.m. St. Louis time. That’s 10-11 p.m. here in California and just perfect for ordering before bedtime 🙂
Definitely an early bird with a sun fetish. Year round I wake with the sun and I tend to go to bed about an hour after it sets. In the winter I try very hard to stay up later but it takes sun replacement lighting to make it happen easily. I think I was a farmer in a previous life. Wait… I’m trying to be a farmer again! *lolol*
Just a little ole sun lover, that’s me.
I am definitely a night owl. Seems like I always have been. I rarely go to sleep before 3 am! I think midnight would be the perfect time for a sneak up.
Early bird though I don’t tend to shop till later in the day
I’d have to say I’m an early bird, but not too early!! My ideal sneak-up time would be 11:00 am. A little appetizer before eating lunch!
Doesn’t matter what time I have to wake up the next day. I’m a nite owl through and through.
hmmm – In a perfect world I am an early bird . . . . but I don’t really get to sleep much. I work graveyards – so some nights I am a definite night owl ( as was PERFECT this night of the week) but then I switch back to mornings on my days off to watch my little 2yo munchkin. Either way I am always either *still* up or *already* up at 0600 – so that is my ideal time. 🙂
I hate getting up early in the morning, always have, so not an early bird. But I’m tired at night too, so not a night owl either… Oh, wait, that might be because of the baby. No baby = night owl here.
My perfect sneakup time would be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning at about 9 Central European time (GMT+1). Then I’m usually just back from leaving the big kids at school/daycare and the baby is sleeping in his pram. I make coffee, check my email and knit.
I am a night owl trapped in an early bird wold. Over the summer I’m generally up until 12-1am, but during the school year I need to be up early for the kids so I need to get to bed earlier. Although really, it doesn’t matter what time I go to bed… morning always comes too soon!
I love Sneak-Ups any time of the day!
I’m a night owl, but not by choice…I just can’t sleep, so I knit and cruise the web! My perfect sneakup time would be Sundays at about 11:00 pm p.s.t.
I’m definitely an Early Bird. I do find myself geting a second wind about 5pm but it’s short-lived. My best time for a sneak-up would be between 5:30-6am. I’m always up with a cup of coffe and watching the morning news.
Whether I’m a night owl or an early bird is hard to tell sometimes because I have to get up fairly early for school and work. But as far as computer use is concerned, I’m definitely a night owl – I often have to get up and go right away in the morning (and even if I don’t, there’s often somebody else using the computer), but I usually spend a bit of time online in the evening.
My ideal time for a Sneak Up would probably be between 8 and 11 pm, PST.
Night owl here–I wish I were an early bird. Best time for me? Probably between 9 and 5 M-F California time…
I’m definitely a night owl! My ideal sneak up time would be between 9 – 11 pm, Pacific time. But I love the excitement of sneak ups at any time. 🙂
Night Owl. I like the sneak-ups after 8pm Eastern because I’m more likely to catch them when I check my mail around 11pm.
I’m an early bird-sneak ups at anytime are great for me!! I can stay up late to knit, tho’, and DH was laughing at me lying on the bed knitting and listening to the iPod. He said he didn’t think anyone else knit (knat?knitted?) lying down, but I think he is wrong.
I’m a night owl, but a not-too-late night owl. I usually end up staying up too late because I don’t want to get and go get ready for bed. And then suddenly it’s an hour past my bedtime. Best times for me would be between 6 pm and midnight (Eastern time).
By nature I’m a night owl, but I share digs with a morning person who needs far less sleep than I. Usually i’m not too happy about this, but today I was lucky that we got up at the crack of dawn and that meant I had a chance at some sKnitches!
I am a night person. If left to my own devices, I am up until about 3 AM and would sleep til about 9 AM. I have actually knitted all night a couple of times, without realizing what time it was. I don’t usually have either the television or a radio on so am just in the groove and POW, there is morning. I can’t do it several time sin a row anymore, tho. Sneak ups are what they are, a sneaky and unpredictable. I am almost always at the computer about 8 AM but then, the surprise is part of the fun. I missed the one last nite by minutes!
Definitely a night owl, can’t go to bed early, just can’t! And I don’t like mornings very much because of that 😉
Sneak ups…well would be nice if every once in a while they are at times when most people in the US are still sleeping, gives the rest of the world a chance too you know 😉
I am a night owl all the way. My ideal sneak-up time would be after 8pm Pacific.
Being an insomniac, I’m definitely a night owl. My ideal Sneak Up time would be 11:30PM EST, but I’m not a die-hard stalker like some other Loopy Groupies. 😉
I am definitely a night owl by preference, but since I really need 8 hours of sleep to feel my best, and my boss can’t seem to accept my arriving at noon, I tend to adopt the early bird ways! As for the sneak ups, any shopping opportunity gets me wide awake, so any old time is good!
I am a Night Owl by nature currently forced to be an Early Bird by two 6 year-olds who refuse to sleep past 6am. For the next month, my ideal Sneak-Up Time is about 10pm Pacific, so midnight chez Loopy. After June, however, you’ll have to have them between 8pm and 9pm so that it hits just before bedtime on the east coast.
Definately a night owl – however, my ideal sneak-up time would be between 4:30-5:30 ET because that’s when I’m usually home checking out emails! 🙂
Night Owl… at least I try! I’m NOT a morning person at all…
Best sneak up time would be around 12:00 noon on a weekday… when I’m playing online while eating my lunch at work! 😉
I am a total night owl. I can’t seem to get off the college study schedule (even though I just graduated!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!). Sneak up around 11:00 p.mp. or 12:00a.m.. eastern time This way I am up but not too tired to hit the checkout button fast enough so nothing flies out of my cart! It’s always something I want most too so my wits must be SHARP!
The early bird gets the worms! I find out about most sneak ups the next morning. Lots of worms that way. LOL
Night Owl. I stay up as late as I can because that is the only knitting time I get these days. I loved last nights Sneak Up. Just right for me.
I am a night owl….but I have small children, who are UP with the SUN. So I am a night owl when I can be (I work nights as well) and a early bird who is not truly conscious before 8. Though I am vertical at that time!
I check blogs and yarn things with the AM cups of coffee, and I can look at Loopy during my working nights. So anytime is a good time for a sneak up. I love surprises!
I have shopped for yarn both in the early am and the late pm–anytime the kids are not screaming is a good time to shop.
I’m on the West Coast and a night owl, so I love them going up like last night’s, so I can shop while the rest of the family’s sleeping. :). My other good time is before I leave for work in the morning, but that is much more rushed.
I’d LIKE to be an early bird! It’s not that I’m not a morning person – I just like sleeping in too. But still, I have to say that mornings (even those spent in bed) are a close second favorite part of my day. I’m mostly an afternoon girl. And circumstance usually has me up later than I’d like – I run out of steam fairly quick after the sun is gone. So call me an early bird, if a sleepy one! 🙂
Early Bird. However, that certainly doesn’t mean I am on the computer at that time — it means I am up and getting everyone else ready for their day and me ready for work.
Definately a Night Owl with a capital N.O!
I guess the best time for a sneak up for me would be around 10-11 pm. I’m usually online and attempting to drool over yarn. 🙂
I was an early bird as a child but I’ve become a night person with the benefit of getting to sleep in. I knit best in the late hours. I would like to see sneakups around noon or midnight my time (5-6 hours difference than most of the Loopy Groupies) since I am here in Hawaii. I just seem to get a sense that it will be a Sneakup and then I am ready and keep looking and wait for my Mac to ding that “I’ve got Loopy mail” and I almost never miss an order with at least $75 in it. I am a lucky girl (now if my fingers would just move faster and I could decide on a pattern sooner). I like it when designers suggest five yarns that would work with the patterns (sometimes it does make a difference if there is an intricate pattern and the yarn is not a solid color to show off the pattern) – mainly I don’t know what patterns work best with the variegated yarns I seem to love to buy (I just love it when the colors change rapidly enough that I don’t get bored). But who can get bored when they are having so much fun. I love having Loopy with me in my container near my knitting chair. My five-year old dog loves seeing Loopy but has never tried to eat him or anything. Fortunately for both of us.
I would have to say after 11pm stl time, but before 1:30 am. I am usually up, and on my computer. So to answer the first question, second, I am definately a night owl.
I’m definitely an early bird. Good sneak times for me would be between 6 and 8 a.m. (I’m on the east coast).
Early bird here! My ideal time would be 6 AM…pretty please 🙂
Actually neither…..I mean I have to get up early for work, so I don’t really stay up late either. During weekends or time off, I naturally wake up around 7 to 8 am….that’s really not that early. I guess I’m a “day” person!!!!!!! Sneak up, hmmmmm. Some time after 8am?????
Good to hear you had a nice time!
I’m a night owl. Because I’m forced to have a “real” job, I have to get to bed sometime around 10pm whether I want to or not, so I would say sometime between 7 and 10p 🙂
Whoo, Whoot, Hoot?!? I am biologically a Night Owl, forced by gainful employment to pretend to be a Lark. Sadly, in order to get up at 4am daily I have to go to bed Really early (FPS!!). I blame some middle weight gain to disruption of normal hormonal cycles. When I worked a job that let me go to bed at midnight and get up at 7am/8am, I lost 15 lbs without trying.
I’m definitely a night owl. I’m a teenager so I’m biologically wired to be a night owl, and it’s usually late at night by the time I’m free from all homework and responsibilities and have time to knit. From the business side of things, I think the ideal time for a Sneak up would be Tuesday or Thursday at about 4:15-4:30 pm. That’s when I’m usually online looking at yarn and checking my e-mail, and my defenses are still pretty low. Just to let you know 🙂
