It always amazes me that so many of you are up late at night when I do a Sneak Up. I’m definitely a Late Night Owl and when I do a Sneak Up late, like I did last night, it’s fun to see how many of you are still up. (Of course for those of you overseas, it’s a whole different ballgame.) Sometimes being a Night Owl has its perks, and it was definitely time for a late night one. We hadn’t done one at that time in awhile. Last night we put up lots of fun stuff:
- Yarn Pirate Merino Tencel
- Lime & Violet Sasquatch Sock
- sKNITches Syncopation Striping
- Gypsy Knits BFL
- All Things Heather
- Great Adirondack Silky Sock
- J.Knits Superwash Me Sock
- Malabrigo Lace (about 20 colors – and about 25 more on the way!)
- ShibuiKnits
- Mrs. Kwitty’s Sock Sacks and Pocket Pals
- Lawre’s Laine BigBags
- Offhand Designs Bags
- Sock Blockers
- New Wendy Knits patterns
And everyone was very quick to find it. We’ll be working on all of your orders today! (Note – the sKNITches is sold out already. This was Sam’s last self-striping order for us, but she has promised that she’ll keep doing Loopy’s Red Striping Socks in the future! And of course we’ll continue to have her wonderful semi-solids and variegated yarns here.)
I had a fun trip down to Fort Lauderdale with Web Guy over the weekend. Amazingly (sadly) I didn’t finish my DC KAL sweater on the long car ride. I really can’t explain this. I am not a super fast knitter, but I think I knit along at a pretty good clip. I didn’t knit for the first few hours because we were talking and I was watching the scenery, but after that I was knitting pretty much the whole time. I’m still focused on being done by June 1st, though. Hopefully next Wednesday I’ll have a photo. Have you checked out all of the sweater photos that are rolling in from the KAL? It’s SO fun to see what everyone has done! Keep the photos coming. If you get yours into our photo gallery by June 1st, you will get the bonus. (Check back on the blog on June 1st – we’ll let you know what your reward is for completing it by June 1st.) We will continue to stock the DC Classy for you, and we also have a whole bunch of Malabrigo Worsted on order, because I think I need to knit a sweater out of that, too. We’ll start up another KAL this summer (not a sweater this time – it’s too hot to have a sweater sitting on your lap while you knit) – watch here for details in a couple of weeks. (Like the squirrel photo? Apparently you Floridians have very friendly squirrels. This guy looked like he was going to jump up on the railing to see us.)
Look where Loopy landed this week – Alaska! My Mum-in-Law took Knitting Daughter up there to visit Wonder Husband’s sister and her husband. (That would be KD’s aunt and uncle.) What a nice graduation gift, don’t you think? Loopy is having a marvelous time. I’m not sure he’s going to want to come back from there. We’re keeping our fingers crossed. I hope you have some fun plans for Loopy this summer. A few of you have already started turning in your photos with Loopy. (He has already met Lucy Neatby and now he wants to dye his fleece purple, FPS.) The postcards will continue to go out in orders until they run out. We’re only putting them in your first order after May 1st, but leave us an order note if you need another one in a later order. We had a lot of fun seeing where he went last summer, and we know you’ll rise to the challenge this summer as well.
This month’s contest is easy and follows along the question of Night Owl vs. Early Bird. Leave your answer in the comments and we’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner one week from today. Here’s the two part question: Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? And what would be your ideal time of day or night for a Sneak Up to go up? (Note – those of you who are regulars here, have kind of figured out that Sneak Ups normally happen in the earlier part of the week – M – W, but we do try to vary the times in order to catch everyone at their best time at one point or another.)

I’m a huge night owl… except last night because I took some xanax and didn’t make it past 10pm. Figures it would be sneak up night 😉
As for sneak ups- Time wise, I really like when they’re after 10pm, that’s when both kids are in bed and I don’t have to stop watching for a sneak up to help them with whatever it is “this time”. Day wise, Any night that my husband is at work and can’t see me destroying my F-5 button, those are the nights I want a sneak up 🙂
I’d have to say both. I can get up before 6am and be fine or stay up until 2am. I try not to do both at the same time though! I like the day time sneakups, but since I’m not supposed to buy more yarn (for the sake of staying married) for a while, it’s probably best if the sneak ups happen when I’m not around. 🙂
Hmm, define when morning starts and nighttime ends. LOL
I’m more of a night owl these days, although that has been much different in years past.
My ideal sneak up time would be around 11:00 p.m. Pacific Time. Although I’m usually up until about 1:00 a.m., around 11:00 is when I think about checking for things like sneak ups.
I’ve managed to miss them every time so far. Still trying to catch a Wollmeise sneak!
I’m an early bird but am on the East coast so I don’t know how that would work for you. How about a noon Eastern Time sneak up (like 9 am for you)?
This is a tough one. By nature, I’m a night owl, but between kids and work, I try to get to bed between 10 and 11! I’d guess the best time for me would be late afternoon — I usually get to check the web then, and have good access, so… That said, it’s probably just as well I missed last night’s sneak up — I still have some roving that needs to be spun 😉
Night owl!, because then i wouldn’t be tempted all day to keep watching the page at work when I’m suppose to be working : p Loopy + Ravelry = a work less day .
I used to be a night owl, but since the birth of my daughter I’ve become an early bird! My best sneak up time would be during her morning nap – say, 8:30 am EST-ish?
These days, with the early sunrise, I am BOTH an early bird and a night owl; and it takes its toll! I can’t sleep beyond the sun, but once the kids get to bed (10 & 12, so they want to stay up later than I do often enough), sometimes I get a second wind and stay up later than I ought. But it’s so peaceful! Nobody needing me, I can be on the computer without competition, I can read and knit…
Work the next day, though, there’s the kicker.
Love waking up with the sun, though; and the light evenings!
I’m a freak – I am both a night owl and an early bird. My workday (from home) usually starts around 4AM, and I stay up until ~11PM.
This would not be doable except for the fact that I am a *very* accomplished afternoon napper. I can nap anywhere, under any circumstances. I just need a pillow (or enough yarn to squish into a rectangle shape), and a blankie!
I am definitely a night owl. My mother says I have been that way my whole life. I have to drag myself out of bed now that the kids go to school every morning.
Ideal time for a sneak up for me is probably about 11:00pm PST. I was one of the first last night and I about died with elation.
Oh, and best sneak-up time for me? 9 – 10 pm, I’m often on the computer then. In fact, I had just shut it off last night, apparently, when the email came; oh well, there was still lots of nice yarn to find today!
I’m a night owl forced to be an early bird by the reality of having a school aged kidlet. You can tell I’m a night owl by the fact that I complain about having to wake up at 7 to start my day =)
Ideal Sneak-up time for me is around 9:00 PM on a weeknight – late enough that the kidlet is settled into bed and early enough that I haven’t abandoned the computer for the tv room.
I am definitely a night-owl. Sneak-ups can be at any time for me since I am on the computer a lot, but my credit card would prefer they start happening in the early EST hours so that I am sleeping! 🙂
Night Owl, most definitely. I found the Sneak Up email last night when I got home from my monthly bunco night with the ladies. And depending on the day, I may or may not still be up for an early EST sneak up! lol
I’m a night owl, but I wasn’t on the computer last night. FPS! I was attacked by horrible pollen and down with a runny nose. I usually get to bed at around midnight to 1am. If I go to bed earlier, I toss and turn all night long.
Best time for a sneak-up would be 11pm to midnight. That’s late enough that there aren’t any witnesses to my shopping. 😉
My whole life I was a night owl, but now that I had my baby I find myself going to sleep at 9 or 10! So I would say I’m an early owl – hehehe. My best time for a sneakup, also thanks to motherhood, is around 7 am pacific time. 🙂
Oh, I’m geared more towards Night Owl, but I find myself still getting up at 6:05 a.m. every workday. (That “:05” is my resistance to the early hour!)
Sneak ups are ideal on Mon-Tues, 9:30 am CST. I’m almost guaranteed to be at my work computer, and the Gmail notifier tells me I have an email before it appears!
Both. By nature, I’m a night owl, I don’t go to bed before 11 pm. However, I don’t have to fight for computer time in the morning. I get on the computer about 6:30 a.m. Best sneakup time is when there is LEAST traffic to your site – so, what time is that?? Other than that, I enjoy the surprise sneakups!
Early bird. My ideal time would be 5:30 am EST because I check my email before the kids get up. 🙂
I am an early bird and the best time for a sneak up for me would be 5:30 – 6:30 am EST. 🙂 I used to be a night owl and worked 10 pm EST to 7 am EST and I loved it! But, now that I have a child (10 year old, not so much a child anymore), I just can’t stay up late!! Bummer! I used to be able to work all night, then go straight to school during the day until 2 pm in the afternoon without ever getting tired, forget that now! I can’t even keep my eyes open past 10 pm, much less work all night!
Could you be considered both? I tend towards Early Bird – two young’uns in school and my best hours tend to be up until lunchtime.
However, if I am up past 11p (Top Chef, CSI anyone?) then I seem to hit that second wind and want to start some other activities. Or shop online. 😉
100% night owl here…. five years as a teacher couldn’t even tame that. I can’t even pretend to be a reasonable person before 10 am. 🙂 So my ideal sneak up time… 10 or 11 MST, which is 12 or 1 eastern. 🙂 Just when I’m getting going.
I’m an early bird…I eat breakfast at my computer between 5:45 and 6:00 a.m. because it’s the only time I can get the computer!
I’m definitely a night owl, probably later than most! I work as a copy editor at a newspaper till about midnight. My ideal time for a sneak-up would be 12:30 a.m., when I’m surfing the net in my pajamas before midnight. =)
By personal habit I’m more of a night owl, though since I have to get up for work I don’t stay up much past 11:30, unless I’m stuck in a book or knitting. But I’m so not an early bird — I pick my clothes the night before to minimize thinking first thing in the morning.
As far as Sneak Ups, I’d prefer Monday through Thursday afternoons. I work M-Th and only use email when I’m at work. I spend enough time on the computer working that when I’m at home I don’t even have email. Plus I’d have to fight my husband and teenager for the computer . . . too much effort.
And I’m totally bummed about missing the sKNITches self-striping, because I’ve wanted it for a long time and it sounds like it’s gone forever :-(.
I’m an early bird (is Loopy awake to post at 3 am??). I am at work 4 days a week by 5 am EST. Very little traffic on the Washington Beltway at 4:30 am.
So if you post really late in Loopyland, it will be really early in Virginia. How’s that sound? hehe
Maybe KD can bring you some qiviat :^)
Definitely a night-owl here! Last night was my very first sneak up. What fun!
Since my daughter was born I have slowly transformed into a night owl. Its the only quiet time I have all to myself as my partner is a early morning commuter so he’s to bed early. You can find me seated in the glow of the monitor from 11 pm -12 am most nights so that would be a great time for a Sneak up!
I’m a night owl! Any time for the sneak up works really… it is a *sneak* up!
I am definitely a nightowl, so any time in the wee hours would be the best for me for a sneak-up, although I don’t think it would give me any advantage!
I have become a night owl since I’ve become a knitter(about a yr ago). My kids are preschool age, and they get up early. I usually can’t knit until they go to sleep, and then I wind up staying up to all hours of the night.
I like that sneak ups are late at night. An early morning sneak up might be nice too.
I am an Early Bird. My hubby and I get up around 5:15 am on work days and walk with our lab Ajax. Even on weekends I am usually up by 6:30 am having a cup of tea and sharing my Lorna Doones with Ajax (before DH is up to see).
I think an excellent sneak up time would be 6:00-6:30 a.m. central time.
I’m a night owl, but I love daytime sneak-ups!
Well, when I was younger, a night owl I was. As I’ve gotten older, it’s early bird, especially that I have to work during the day to support my habits
I am a total night owl. It is so peaceful and quiet (except for the movies on tv to watch while knitting). I prefer a Monday or Tuesday sneak up ( and you do tend to oblige) and since I am a night owl I prefer the late night/early morning sneak ups. There are very few on line and it’s easy to shop – no site crashes!
TOTAL nightowl here!!! Best time for a sneak up for me would be around 10 pm after dh and the kiddos are in bed. 🙂
I am an early bird but my husband forces me to be both since we work opposite shifts. He keeps me up late on the weekends so we can spend some time together and wakes me up when he gets home at 12:30 on the week nights so we can at least say “hi and bye”.
I love the early sneak ups because they are convenient to check before I start work at 7:30. However it still doesn’t stop me from checking the site about 5 times a day!
I’ve transitioned over the years from Night Owl to Early Bird…mostly due to having to work. I would love to see a sneak up in the morning. I’m usually checking my e-mail and favorite sites from work during my morning or lunch break (Pacific Time). My mornings at home are too rushed to log in, and my evenings are too short.
I used to be a night owl, but now I’m neither one! With a baby in the house we go to bed early and fall bleary eyed out of bed at what ever time he does.
I’m a night owl living in an early bird’s body. I used to love staying up late before I had kids. Now, if I stay up late, it never fails that one of the kids is up and wanting breakfast at 5am. Now that they sleep in occasionally, I’ve grown to enjoy that quiet moment of coffee+news+knitting that I catch every now and then. For me, a great sneakup time would be during the day while the kids are at school. Most other times my attention is taken by their needs.
I’m a night owl forced to get up early in the morning to get the kiddo off to school….that is soooo not a good combo. My favorite time for a sneak up is any time after 8:30pm because the kiddos are in bed and I can in my chair with the laptop next to me refreshing. 🙂
An Earlybird! I totally missed the Sknitches last night. I was a nightowl til’ I had children. My kids have always gotten up early so I adjusted and can’t seem to stay up late anymore. Although, I can get alot accomplished before noon. Hope you get your sweater finished.
hehehe…I live in WA so when you do a sneak up at night I love it and I can be a pretend night owl! I really do think I’m a night owl more than an early bird anyways. what stinks is I have to get up for work by 5:30 or I’m a latey!
I’m definitely an early bird. My son sees to that. 🙂 But, for my full attention, it would be great to have a sneak-up between 10am and noon (so I could catch it during my little one’s nap time!).
I’m a night owl/ insomniac. It’s not unusual to see me on the computer at 3 AM. If something wakes me up, I’ll check email and the boards to see what’s up, then I can get back to sleep. 11 PM updates are great, although I’ll be using stash for a while since I quit my job a couple of weeks ago. Trying to decide between Lime & Violet Sasquatch and Creatively Dyed Luxury for my next socks. 😉
I’m an early bird, so a good sneak up time would be around 6-7am PST on a weekday while I’m having my cup of coffee with breakfast. Early bird catches the worm, right? 🙂
I’m not as much of an early bird as I used to be. That’s because my boyfriend is a night owl, so I’ve started to adopt some night owl tendencies, especially on weekends.
Night Owl here for sure. I think my favroite time would be to have the Sneak-Up go up around 9pm Pacific (11 central) so that I can sleep well with visions of yarny goodness dancing in my head.
I’m a mixture of both. It depends on what life has in the mix. I try to get up at 5:30am, and usually do not get to bed until between 11 and midnight. However, sometimes, I go to bed by 9pm when it catches up with me. How about an early morning weekend sneak up for a treat for those who are up early on the weekend. I can never seem to sleep in on the weekend.
Definitely an early bird. The perfect time for me would be about 4:40am EST. I get up around 4:15, so that would leave me enough time to have my first cup of coffee, and be truely awake, but still early enough so that I can shop at my leisure.
I would say I am more of an Early Bird but do the Night Owl quite frequently also if I am knitting something fun. I like the sneak up during 8 to 5 when I am at work and am right on top of things!
