Good News, Bad News

Good News: Mocha’s fur is growing out. So many of you have emailed to ask about him, that I thought I’d keep you posted. Interesting to see how much darker he gets as it grows. Here he is sitting on our deck with his “brother” James.

Bad News: Mocha and James don’t really understand why we let Zoe and Gracie in our house and we don’t let them in, too.

Good News: We also have cute squirrels in our yard.

Bad News: This one must have been having heart palpitations at the thought of cats on the deck.

Good News: Love this new recipe that we tried this week. (Original recipe from foodandwine.com, via Pinterest.)

Penne-with-Roasted-Asparagus-and-Balsamic-ButterPenne with Roasted Asparagus and Balsamic Butter

1 pound asparagus
1 Tbl. olive oil
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
3/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 tsp. brown sugar
1 pound penne pasta
1/4 pound butter, cut into pieces
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Cut the tough ends from the asparagus and then cut the spears into 1″ pieces. Toss in olive oil and 1/4 tsp. salt and pepper and roast on a baking sheet for 10 minutes.

While the asparagus is roasting, put the balsamic vinegar in a small pan and simmer until 4 Tbl. remain. Stir in the brown sugar and the remaining 1/4 tsp. pepper. Remove from heat.

Cook the penne in a large pot of boiling, salted water, approx. 14 minutes. Drain and toss with butter, then add the balsamic sauce, Parmesan, and remaining 1 3/4 tsp. salt.

(You can also make this with broccoli instead of the asparagus. Or add in grilled chicken pieces. Yum!)

Bad News: I have this awesome 18 year old Balsamic Vinegar from the Rocky Mountain Olive Oil Company downtown. (So delicious.) When I told DH that the sauce was a little dark because of the aged vinegar, he thought I meant that I was using Balsamic that I had bought 18 years ago and was still in the cupboard. Ick.

Bad News, Good News

Bad news: I was so sick last week that I had to cancel out on a long-planned trip to visit Knitting Daughter at college. (I don’t even want to talk about it. Still so sad.)

Good news: United Airlines said, “No problem. We’ll credit you that $270 for a future flight.”

Bad news: And then they said, “There will also be a $180 re-ticketing fee at the time that you use the credit.”

Good news: I’m never flying United again. Southwest all the way, even if United has better flight times for certain flights.

Bad news: I sat sick and unmoving on the couch for 3 days.

Good news: I did manage to knit. Look at all of the fun springy Palindrome scarves I whipped up:

Bad news: Just kidding. (Thanks, Photoshop.)

Good News, Bad News

Good News: We had 20 people at Loopy Knit Night last night and filled the whole front entry area with chairs and knitters and crocheters. That was fun!
Bad News: I added more patterns to my “to knit” list. It happens every time someone walks in wearing a beautiful handknit, or comes to Knit Night, working on something enticing.

Good News: I started my sweater. This is the Tea Leaves Cardigan out of Dream in Color Cashmere Blend Worsted in the September ’11 colorway.
Bad News: We’re currently out of that colorway, but we have others available. This yarn is so fun to knit. I can only imagine how nice it will feel to wear.

Good News: I did a Cable Cast On for the neck edge and really like how it looks.
Bad News: It has nothing to do with cables, so the name is a bit misleading and makes it sound like it might be difficult. It’s so NOT difficult.

Good News: It snowed about 8″ last night! Everything looks beautiful outside and my backyard looks like this again.
Bad News: It might be done snowing here. Denver is getting 18 – 24″ and that sounds more fun. I like snow.

Good News: In addition to Mocha-the-backyard-cat (and I did finally get to pet him last week!), we also have a very friendly, sweet cat named Simon who likes to visit and drink water out of our bird bath. He loves attention. I’ve gone out on the deck to pet him several times in the last few weeks.
Bad News: Last weekend in the midst of purring and being petted, he turned around and sunk his teeth into my hand. Then he immediately went back to purring and being happy that I was petting him. (??) Now I refer to him as that Sweet Devil Cat.

Good News: I went to the doc and got on antibiotics the next day, so don’t email and tell me how awful cat bites can be. I know. He’s up to date on his rabies shots, I’m up to date on my tetanus shot, and my hand is all well now.
Bad News: He still visits our deck and I’ll probably still pet him from time to time. (At least this is bad news to my hubby, who thinks I ought to be more cautious of animals I don’t know. I’ll try, but no guarantees.)

Got any good news/bad news to share today?

Bad News, Good News

DSC03648Bad News: I didn’t do any knitting this weekend. I drove up to Indiana for a wedding and had great hopes of knitting at one point or another and it just didn’t happen. I took three different projects with me. I suffer from the “what if I run out of knitting while I’m there?” syndrome. Obviously it wasn’t a problem this time.
Good News: It was a nice wedding and I got to see Knitting Daughter and Web Guy. In fact, I got to bring Web Guy home for a week!

Bad News: Loopy Photographer Sharon told me last week that I need a yarn intervention. That was after she walked into the photo room and saw the shelves and shelves of yarn that were new for this week.
Good News: Of course that’s good news for you! We have Spud & Chloe (Fine, Sweater and patterns), Blue Sky Alpacas (Worsted, Alpaca Silk, Skinny, Royal and patterns), Dream in Color Classy re-stocks, Dream in Color Starry re-stocks plus the new semi-solids, 3 AM Enchantments Petite KIP’s, regular KIP’s, and Deluxe Notion Bags, The Dyeing Arts Roving, Namaste re-stocks,  and the amazing Sajou Scissor line.

Bad News: I may have taken a Petite KIP, a Deluxe Notions bag, a Starry Blue Sage, and way too many colors and skeins of Blue Sky and Spud & Chloe for my own self.
Good News: My love for alpaca and alpaca blends remains strong. I love it more than cashmere. Why haven’t I added in these lines before? They are amazing.

Bad News: That just “ups” the amount of stash I have and the number or projects that I want to knit.
Good News: A healthy stash + a long list of projects = just what I like.
