AmiguruME Contest!

Amigurume 1What a fun book! The kind folks at Lark Crafts sent me an early copy of the new AmiguruME book by Allison Hoffman, and I had such a great time going through it all. This title will be available sometime early this month, but you can have my copy now, if you’d like! (Please note – the only reason I’m not keeping this gem is because my crochet skills stop at straight lines and granny squares. Making a doll is beyond my current skill set. Although the book includes directions on how to crochet and do the different stitches, if you’re like me and aren’t sure you have the skills. That does make it tempting to keep….)

The photos and directions are very clear and concise, making it possible for you to crochet-up your own likeness, or that of your kids or friends. There are directions for faces (adults and kids), different hair types, different body types, different clothing options, and different shoes (even flip flops with toes-ies showing!). Here are a few more pictures:

If you’d like my copy, just leave a comment below and tell me who you’d like to make first, with this book. Yourself? Your kids? Your BFF? One of the cute patterns in the book just as it is? I’ll randomly draw a winner next week and will send this book on its way.

Box of Fun The Loopy EweWe have just added a new Photo Gallery to the website, but it’s empty and we need you to help fill it up! We thought it would be fun to have pictures of you with your Boxes of Fun, when they arrive. (Not the contents of your box – just your smiling, happy face posing with your box with the Fun sticker showing!) We may also use your Box of Fun photos in the video that we are putting together for our quest to the Super Bowl ad, so be sure you’re ok with that if you upload a photo. We can only use a few of those, but we’d love your help with that. International Loopies – we leave the Box of Fun stickers off of your envelopes to help make them as generic looking as possible (hoping that helps them avoid Customs), but we’re happy to include a sticker on the inside if you’d like to apply it to your package after it arrives, for the photo. Just leave us an order note if you want us to put a sticker inside!

P.S. I’m off for a long weekend with some of my favorite friends for our Annual Girlfriends Weekend, so no blog post on Friday. But I’ll be back on Monday with another Monday Update for you!

Do You Live Nearby? Cool Classes for You!

Do you live near Fort Collins? Would you like to get in on some great classes? We just added our Summer Class Schedule to the website and we’d love to have you join us! We have classes going for beginners (Knitting, Crochet, Weaving, Spinning), and for more experienced knitters (Colorwork in hats and stockings, Double Knitting, Crochet Lace, and Tunisian Crochet). We also have Parent/Child classes, so if you have been wanting to learn with one of your kids, this is a great way to do it.

susan-b-anderson-classesIn addition to the regular class offering, we also have an opportunity for you to get in on some instructors that we are bringing in for our Spring Fling. The retreat is completely full, but we have a few extra class spots if you’re interested in joining us for some awesome classes.

Susan B Anderson is teaching her Fair Isle Hat Design class here at The Loopy Ewe on Wednesday evening, April 17th. The class will run from 6:30 – 9:30 pm, and you will be learning how to do two-handed fair-isle, while creating your own hat with personalized colors and stitch patterns.  Susan is the author of the popular Itty Bitty book series, as well as a former author of the Spud and Chloe blog. This is the first time we’ve had Susan as one of our Spring Fling instructors and we’re very excited that she’s coming!

wendy-johnson-classesWendy Johnson is the author of the popular Wendy Knits blog and is the author of these great sock pattern books, as well as her lace pattern book (for all knitting levels). She has been an instructor at our Spring Flings several times and is always a popular teacher for us. She will be teaching her Sideways Lace Scarf and Shawl Design Class on Saturday morning, April 20, from 9 am – noon at The Embassy Suites, Loveland. She has designed numerous individual patterns in addition to her books, and says she has more pattern ideas than she’ll ever had time to write up. Come learn a great formula for designing your own patterns!

jc-briar-classesJC Briar is back to teach at her second Spring Fling, because of the outstanding reviews she received at her first Fling with us! (Things like, “She’s the best teacher I’ve ever had!” and “She makes things to easy to understand.”) She is the author of my favorite book about knitting from charts (Charts Made Simple), as well as having designed many individual patterns. She’s teaching her popular Cast-On Cornucopia class on Saturday afternoon, April 20 at The Embassy Suites in Loveland. If you find yourself using the same cast-ons over and over, get in on her class to liven things up a bit.

You can click on this link to sign up for these special classes, as well as our regular classes scheduled for this summer. You will also find the link on the homepage in the blue box under “In-Store Classes”. We hope to see you here soon!

Knit and Crochet for a Cause

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we are partnering up with an organization here in Fort Collins called Hope Lives, to provide handmade items to those in need. Hope Lives provides free holistic wellness and lifestyle support services to women in northern Colorado who are battling breast cancer.

If you’d like to participate in this, we are collecting knit or crocheted shawls, lap blankets, fingerless gloves, socks and slippers for the women going through treatment. We have a collection basket here at The Loopy Ewe and we plan to keep the collection going through December.  You can knit with any yarn that you have handy and want to work with. Thank you in advance for anything you can knit/crochet to help!

Of course there are many wonderful agencies that would be happy to have items like this year-round, so if your time is tight this fall, we hope you’ll consider making something at another time of the year, to share with groups around you. I know many of you do this on a regular basis and are happy to be able to do it. Thank you for having such a generous spirit!
