Do You Live Nearby? Cool Classes for You!

Do you live near Fort Collins? Would you like to get in on some great classes? We just added our Summer Class Schedule to the website and we’d love to have you join us! We have classes going for beginners (Knitting, Crochet, Weaving, Spinning), and for more experienced knitters (Colorwork in hats and stockings, Double Knitting, Crochet Lace, and Tunisian Crochet). We also have Parent/Child classes, so if you have been wanting to learn with one of your kids, this is a great way to do it.

susan-b-anderson-classesIn addition to the regular class offering, we also have an opportunity for you to get in on some instructors that we are bringing in for our Spring Fling. The retreat is completely full, but we have a few extra class spots if you’re interested in joining us for some awesome classes.

Susan B Anderson is teaching her Fair Isle Hat Design class here at The Loopy Ewe on Wednesday evening, April 17th. The class will run from 6:30 – 9:30 pm, and you will be learning how to do two-handed fair-isle, while creating your own hat with personalized colors and stitch patterns.  Susan is the author of the popular Itty Bitty book series, as well as a former author of the Spud and Chloe blog. This is the first time we’ve had Susan as one of our Spring Fling instructors and we’re very excited that she’s coming!

wendy-johnson-classesWendy Johnson is the author of the popular Wendy Knits blog and is the author of these great sock pattern books, as well as her lace pattern book (for all knitting levels). She has been an instructor at our Spring Flings several times and is always a popular teacher for us. She will be teaching her Sideways Lace Scarf and Shawl Design Class on Saturday morning, April 20, from 9 am – noon at The Embassy Suites, Loveland. She has designed numerous individual patterns in addition to her books, and says she has more pattern ideas than she’ll ever had time to write up. Come learn a great formula for designing your own patterns!

jc-briar-classesJC Briar is back to teach at her second Spring Fling, because of the outstanding reviews she received at her first Fling with us! (Things like, “She’s the best teacher I’ve ever had!” and “She makes things to easy to understand.”) She is the author of my favorite book about knitting from charts (Charts Made Simple), as well as having designed many individual patterns. She’s teaching her popular Cast-On Cornucopia class on Saturday afternoon, April 20 at The Embassy Suites in Loveland. If you find yourself using the same cast-ons over and over, get in on her class to liven things up a bit.

You can click on this link to sign up for these special classes, as well as our regular classes scheduled for this summer. You will also find the link on the homepage in the blue box under “In-Store Classes”. We hope to see you here soon!

Spring Fling Signups Are Ready!

Today you’re getting a special Saturday blog post, because we have Spring Fling 2013 signups ready for you! Can you come for it?? This will be our first Colorado Spring Fling, and we have a great time planned for all.

All the details:

Dates: Thu, April 18th – Sun, April 21st,

We’ll start checking people in at the hotel at 3 pm that Thursday . Thursday night we’ll enjoy a Dessert Reception, then two days of classes, Loopy shopping, and Knitting Lounge relaxation, ending with a brunch on Sunday morning. For travel purposes, plan to arrive anytime after 1 pm on Thursday, and plan to fly out any time on Sunday, late morning or early afternoon.

Hotel: Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Conference Center in Loveland, CO — this beautiful hotel is located between Loveland and Fort Collins, a 50 minute trip from the Denver Airport. Amenities include a 24 hour fitness center, indoor swimming pool and on-site restaurant. A full service spa – The Spa Botanica – is available for massages, facials, body wraps and treatments, and other therapies. (Cost not included in your Retreat cost.) Free shuttle service to Loveland’s popular shopping and dining area, Centerra.

Cost: $525 for a double room, $695 for a single room — this includes hotel stay for Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, the Thursday evening reception, breakfast and lunch on Friday and Saturday, Brunch on Sunday, 1 class (others available for an additional fee), Goodie Bag, trip to The Loopy Ewe, and 8 am – midnight access to the Loopy Knitting Lounge on Friday and Saturday.

If you are flying in, you can rent a car to get to the hotel (perhaps with a few fellow Flingers?), or there is a shuttle service that you can book at a discounted rate. It will be approximately $48 round trip for the shuttle service.

Please note that we are unable to offer day-passes or options to attend without the hotel stay. Our prices at the hotel are figured on the number of guest rooms that we use for the weekend, and we max out our class and lounge space with Fling attendees.

You’ll be able to choose classes and room-mates in February. We’ll send you an email when it’s time to sign up for those.

We’re thrilled about our class instructors for the weekend:

Ann Budd (website) — Ann is a book editor and former senior editor of Interweave Knits magazine. She is the author of Best of Interweave Knits, Getting Started Knitting Socks, The Knitter’s Handy Book series, Simple Style, Color Style, Lace Style, Sock Knitting Master Class, Interweave Presents Knitted Gifts, and many more. Ann lives in Colorado and this will be her first year as one of our Fling teachers.

Susan B Anderson (website) — Susan is the author of Itty Bitty Hats, Itty Bitty Toys, Itty Bitty Nursery, and Spud and Chloe on the Farm. She has a series of knitting tutorials on YouTube and has a very popular blog. Susan lives in Wisconsin and this will be her first year as one our of Fling teachers.

JC Briar (website) — JC is the designer of many scarf, shawl and sweater patterns, as well as the author of the must-have book, Charts Made Simple. She calls herself a “technique junkie”, as she collects knitting techniques and skills like other people collect patterns and yarn. This will be her second time as one of our Fling teachers. We heard so many amazing things about her previous Fling classes, that of course we had to have her back! She will be visiting us from her home in Oregon.

Wendy Johnson (website) — Wendy is the author of Toe-Up Socks for Every Body, Wendy Knits Lace, Socks from the Toe-Up, and Wendy Knits: My Never-Ending Adventures in Yarn, as well as her popular blog. This will be Wendy’s fourth time as one of our Fling teachers. She will be visiting us from her home in Virginia.

Ready to Sign Up?

Signups are open today thru December 11th. As much as we would love to have everyone, in past years we’ve had more people sign up than we’re able to host, so we use a lottery to keep things fair. The day after signups close we will send you an email letting you know if you got a spot for this year’s Spring Fling. Please note that if you are coming, a non-refundable $100 deposit will be due by January 31, with the balance of your fee due by March 15, 2013.

*** An important note. Before you sign up for the retreat, make sure that you check airline prices, vacation from work, childcare, and any other details you need to clear in order to be able to come. Once you sign up, you go into the lottery and if you get a spot, then we want to know that you will use it. The signups are up for a week, so you have plenty of time to check into things before you sign up.

So are you ready? Here’s the link for sign-ups. We hope to see you here in April!
