It’s time to start thinking about August Camp Loopy projects already! This month brings another fun-filled and motivational cinema-inspired challenge. For full Camp Loopy details, please reference the June Camp Loopy Announcement. As a reminder, Camp Loopy is a virtual camp – no need to travel, and all are welcome. The way it is set up, you can join in at any time – and we hope you will!
August Camp Loopy Challenge
The August Camp Loopy Challenge is all about identifying the best of the best, and celebrating that! We will take a trip down the red carpet this month to honor the best in yarns, designers and original content. According to Wikipedia, the Academy Awards, or Oscars are:
... awards for artistic and technical merit for the film industry. They are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), in recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements as assessed by the Academy's voting membership. The Academy Awards are regarded by many as the most prestigious, significant awards in the entertainment industry in the United States and worldwide.
While we won’t be casting any actual votes (at this time, anyway!), we will be using our own personal opinions on artistic and technical merit to guide our project and yarn selections this month. It’s time to take a stand on what you like best and move forward with it! We want each and every one of you to celebrate working with (or on) something that makes you so happy you don’t want the project to finish or the month to end.
Please remember, we are open to accepting most project – film industry pairings. We are most interested in hearing your story than in your connections being super solid/logical – though it’s fun when the puzzle pieces come together nicely! We love getting to know you and building this crazy, fun, creative community. This should be fun, not stressful!
August Camp Loopy Categories
- Best Starring Yarn: think Best Actor or Actress category. Use your favorite yarn brand and/or base this month. You should choose something you really LOVE working with. A big fan of soft and luxurious? Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere, The Plucky Knitter Primo DK, or The Uncomon Thread Lush Worsted might just be for you. The colors of Malabrigo calling your name? Pick up some Rios or Sock. Prefer those non-superwashes? Jamieson and Smith or Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok might be what you need this month! Link your selected yarn (by color name, base name, fiber content, etc) to one of your favorite actresses/actors. This can be via actor/actress name, a movie they’ve starred in, the name of their children. . . It’s wide open!
- Best Designer: think Best Director category. Use a pattern from your favorite designer and associate it with one of your favorite movie directors. Do you love Martina Behm? Make her new Hitch on the Move (uhm, anyone an Alfred Hitchcock fan?) or Liebe Hannah. A Joji Locatelli fan? Opt to make a Solare or A Place of Peace. Your chosen designer doesn’t have to be famous – just well-loved by YOU. Your association can be via any of your favorite director’s movies, their name, etc.!
- Best Original Design or Input: think Best Original Screen Play. Use this as your opportunity to design your own project, or adapt something to become your own! I’d love to see your creativity shine in this category. Whether you just tweak a project to suit you better, or you design a full on pattern, this category is for you! Associate it with one of your own favorite original screenplays.
August Camp Week
We are offering a 15% discount on the yarn you are using for your August project, when you purchase between July 11-18, 2023.
You will need to leave us an order comment telling us which specific yarn will be used for your project. If there isn’t a note, then we won’t be able to apply the discount.
Also, please note that you are welcome to use Loopy points/credit OR the discount. We aren’t able to add both. If we see that you’ve used Loopy points/credit, we will not add a discount on top of that. Sale yarns are not eligible for additional discounts.
Key Requirements
To receive Camp Points for your project, please make sure you check these boxes:
- Yarn for the project must be purchased from The Loopy Ewe July 11, 2023, or later.
- Project must use the yardage you are hoping to meet (check out the June Blog for details) HELD SINGLY (or x2, if held double).
- Project must not be started before August 1, 2023 and must be completed by August 31, 2023.
- A photo of the completed project must be emailed to us by September 1, 2023. (support@theloopyewe.com)
