Camp Loopy 2023 – Cinema Camp!

Welcome to the Golden Age of Cinema! This year Camp Loopy hosts you for a summer of movie madness. Join us for a 3 month film festival, filled with drama, action and thrills. This virtual summer knit/crochet camp comes with monthly challenges, groups to chat with along the way, and rewards for completion at the end – all in the comfort of your own home (or campsite, or vacation locale)!

Camp Loopy Overview

We have shaken things up a bit this year! We will run 2 Camper categories. All Campers will intermingle and complete the same basic monthly challenge (as defined below for June), and everyone can earn points based on the yardages they use for each project (defined below). Camper categories are described here – we hope you will participate in Camp Loopy at the level you are able!

• Sleep-Away Campers will be required to complete one project per month, to include a 400+, 600+ and 800+ yard project. You pick which month you complete each in! You can always go over on yardage (yes to 3 projects of 800+ yards!), but you must meet the minimums to qualify as a finisher of the sleep-away camp. Is August busy for you? Do your 800+ yard project in June and your 400 yard project in August!
• Day Campers will work to complete 3 projects – one each month. Points will only be awarded for projects over 200 yards, but you can participate with less stress knowing the yardage pressure is lowered. Were you aiming for sleep-away camp status but July got busy and you could only get a small project done? Oh well – you can still earn points as a day camper! Missed June, but still want to participate? You can hop in for July & August to receive points for those months.

June Camp Loopy Challenge:

We celebrate movie genres this month! Choose your movie genre and follow the guidelines for that particular movie style! I’m leaving it to your interpretation to decide what fits in each movie category. Your personal comfort films may be primarily Indy films while someone else comforts in Classics (or RomComs). What you must do is explain how your chosen project aligns with a film, actor, or director that falls in your chosen movie genre. If you can provide an explanation as to how your project fits the requirement, you are set! We look forward to adding films to our ‘must watch’ list this summer – I’m expecting some real gems!

The Classics (think Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz or even Psycho!) This group shines with epic flair and endless style. Those joining this group will incorporate classic fashion to their projects – choose cables, lace motifs, or colorwork to spice up your project with glitz and glamor.

Indy / Artistic (think Moonrise Kingdom, Lady Bird, Trainspotting , Knives Out, Amelie or other more obscure films!) This group will add polish to their craft using quirky, less mainstream techniques. Incorporate brioche, mosaic knit/crochet, bobbles, Latvian braid or another lesser-known technique to inspire the tone you’re going for!

Comfort Films (think Sleepless in Seattle, Shawshank Redemption, Love Actually, Pitch Perfect, or anything from the Hallmark Channel) Those in this group are up for basic stitches, group knit/crochet friendly projects – mindless and meditative (restorative?). This includes things like a stockinette sweater or garter stitch blanket – simple, joy-filled pleasures!

The Knitty Gritty

• We are offering a 15% discount on yarn purchased for your June project. Leave an order note telling us which yarn is for Camp. We’ll apply the discount after the order comes through. The discount is valid May 9-16, 2023. For free shipping in the U.S., please make sure your discount won’t take you below the $100 level for free shipping.
  (Note – we are not able to combine the discount with the use of any Loopy credits. You are welcome to choose either. If your order comes through and you have applied your credit, we won’t add a further discount. We also cannot further discount the Cascade SW Sport which is already available at reduced price).
• Yarn for the June project needs to be purchased from The Loopy Ewe on May 9, 2023 or later.
• The project should not be started before June 1st, 2023, and needs to be completed by June 30th, 2023.
• A photo of the completed project must be emailed to us (support@theloopyewe.com) by midnight, July 1, 2023. The email must also provide information on the project including: pattern & designer used, yarn used & yardage, an explanation of how your project fits with June’s theme, and, if available, we’d love a link to your Ravelry (or other) project page!

Rewards

Campers will receive points for their projects based on yardages used as follows (ALL points added in September after Camp has been completed and we have time to compile them):

• 200-400 yards: 30 points
• 400- 600 yards: 40 points
• 600-800 yards: 50 points
• Campers completing Sleep-Away Camp will get a bonus 50 points plus a special surprise pack that includes an exclusive movie-themed skein of yarn!
• Campers completing Day Camp with projects all more than 200 yards will get a bonus 25 points.

We will start a Camp Loopy Chat thread on Ravelry, later this afternoon. Closer to our June 1 start date for Ravelry, we’ll create three groups corresponding to movie genres for June Camp Loopy Month.
