Our twelfth anniversary has rolled around and we are delighted to be celebrating it with you.
So many of you have been with us for all 12 years, while others of you discovered us just this month. We appreciate ALL of you and are happy to be celebrating creativity, inspiration and YOU, every single day. You bring joy to our lives, and we hope we bring joy to your life as well. We have some cool things planned for you this fall and winter, as we jump into our 13th year with you.
We started Loopy the summer of 2006, in a little corner of our basement. Here were our first four in-store (in-house!) shoppers. And what you see behind them was really about the size of the entire Loopy corner. After a few months we had to take over the rest of the basement (right photo).
A year later, we moved the business out of the house and into office/retail space (left), and a year after that we expanded that space as well (right).
In 2011, we packed up all of our shelves and products, and moved the shop from St. Louis, MO to Fort Collins, CO. We thought it was a big move at the time. (Turns out, our move this past month was a way bigger move, even though we were just going a couple of blocks down the road!)
After two years in that space, we expanded once again and added our Loopy Fabric Shop in 2013, so we could share beautiful colors with quilters and sewists.
This year (actually, this month), we moved once again to add in more space, a ground floor location, and lots of windows. It’s hard to get photos of all of the aisles and corners of this new shop, but we’ll do a video sometime for you. And we swear we are never moving again. 🙂
Whether you’ve been with us for all 12 years, or just the last 12 days, we are happy to have you in our Loopy Family. It’s wonderful being surrounded by color and amazingly creative people every single day, both in person and online. We love doing this with you!
Now on to the Loopy Anniversary Celebration!
Anniversary yarn from our newest indie dyer: Dodecahedron is the name of our exclusive color from Hue Loco! This gorgeous color is dyed on their MCN base and comes with 412 yards in the skein. It would make a gorgeous sweater on its own, or mixed in with another MCN base for a Fade-type of sweater or scarf. (Of course you need a colorway called Dodecahedron in your yarn collection.)
Loopy Swag: We’ve added in new white Loopy sweatshirts, insulated tumblers, sport bottles, and coffee mugs. I was gifted a coffee mug in this shape for Christmas and it is my favorite. Love the rounded, plump look! (Here is my favorite – along with the most amazing hot chocolate recipe…) Plus, this mug just feels nice in your hands. So I went looking specifically for this mug when it was time to order more for Loopy.
Anniversary Blog Contest: Want to win a $500 box of Loopy Love? Comment below to be entered into our Blog Anniversary Contest! Here’s the question: What has been your favorite project (yarn or fabric) so far this year?
Watch for more contests on our Instagram page, our Facebook page, and in our Ravelry group this month, too!
Monday Update:
Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn – Each time we get yarn from an indie dyer, there is usually some variation in the colorway from the last time we received that same color. (Don’t worry – we do reshoot the color when it comes in different.) This batch just seems to have an extra special pop in all of the colors that are re-stocks and I am loving them even more! We have also added in their 10 new colors.
Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK – Have you tried Hedgehog DK? It is amazing. Feels good, looks good, and comes with 219 yards in the skein. We’ve re-stocked and added in the 10 new colors as well.
Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock – Do you need an end-of-the-summer present for yourself? This might be it. Swanky is 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon and the colors are beautiful.
Magpie Fibers Swanky DK – That same 80/10/10 Merino/Cashmere/Nylon base, but in their DK weight. If you’re gearing up for fall sweater knitting, this might be your perfect yarn!
Cavallini – new designs in Mini Notebooks and Sticky Notes. We love Cavallini – they have cute designs, it feeds our notebook/pencil/sticky note addictions, and it makes it easy to take notes on your patterns and designs when you keep them in your project bags.
Our last Yarn Update included: Hue Loco Phyllis Sock, The Uncommon Thread Merino DK, Posh Fingering, Everyday Singles and Lush Worsted, Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd Worsted, Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere, and their Sock-It Club July colorway.
Have fun shopping through the new things, tag us on Instagram when you knit up our beautiful new anniversary color, and pop over to the blog to get in on the big contest.

I did a test knit for Imagined_Landscapes last month and I adore the finished knit. It was a worsted weight cabled gnome. So much fun.
My favorite technique and projects this year were brioche shawls.
I have made two shawls by Ambah O’Brien (Kallara and Zarya) that I have enjoying knitting – and love the finished product!
Happy anniversary!
It’s hard to pick just one favorite yarn. I’ve bought so many wonderful sock yarns from you thru the years. I made a Clapo-Ktus shawl this year which was great fun
I love the first Saturday jelly roll class. It gives me so many creative ideas. I hope they keep it going forever.
Thanks Lynn last year for helping me locate my daughter’s lost carpet bag I purchased from you all and her diligence I appreciate everything you did and she loves the bag. This year I am recovering from cancer and will have my last chemo congratulations on your new store and your wonderful Employee Service.
Congratulations! From the time you were in your St. Louis basement to now, you have had great customer service and a wonderful selection. I can’t wait to see your new space in person.
My current favorite project is my Linen Stitch Blanket that I’m making with my leftover sock yarn scraps. It’s amazing how so many different colors come together to make a really pretty blanket.
I’ve been on a sweater kick this year and so far my favorite has been the Two Flax Light sweaters I knit for my twin nieces out of the Gauge Dyeworks Self Striping Sweater yarn. So satisfying yet so easy.
Currently and knitting a Birkin Sweater that will also be satisfying but in a more complicated way!!
Congratulations on your anniversary and your new location. I hope I can see it soon. My favorite project now is a cardigan I’m making -for myself! – out of leftover bits, mostly Loopy Solids.
Hedgehog Fibers with a new shawl for TinyTyrantDesigns has been my favorite project so far this year. She has not released the pattern yet, but that is expected in September. It is using a new stitch (to me), the hexagon stitch, which creates a squishy finished garment. I am fascinated with the fabric it creates and the magic of how it looks. I am going to do it again.
My favorite hands down for the Tegna top I made for myself and used the amazing Uncommon Thread Posh Fingering.
An illusions blanket for my granddaughter with a unicorn image
My favorite project this year has been making small blankets and hats for Angel Babies. It is rewarding to be able to do something that I enjoy (crocheting) while making something that is needed and special for these babies and their moms.
I would say my favorite project so far, is one I am currently working on. It is the cathedral wrap. The yarn is gorgeous, soft and the pattern offers enough changes to keep me interested.
My favorite project so far this year was Bellrose which I knit in June for Camp Loopy using Knerd String Sport.
My favorite project this year is the Whiskyfied shawl I knit for June Camp Loopy. I love everything about it – the style and the yarn (Magpie Fibers Swanky DK)
Favorite project(s)…Shawls, shawls and more shawls. They always fit, the colors and combos are infinite and they go with any outfit from tee shirt and jeans to formal wear.
Happy Anniversary. To many, many more years of Loopy Ewe!
My favorite project this year(so far) has been my Jeeves socks. I finally used the yarn I won as a previous year’s Camp Loopy! The yarn is delicious (Dream in Color Jilly in Pirate’s Ransom) and the pattern was really fun to knit! Best of all – the socks turned out gorgeous and so squishy and my feet love them! (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/YarnDork/jeeves)
Not getting as much knitting time as I’d like…but I did knit up Romi Hill’s 3-part harmony shawl. Turned out very pretty, but is languishing in a closet waiting to get blocked and weave in all the pesky ends!
As I recovered from my first surgery, I decided to occupy myself by knitting a pair of Ohm socks in the Loopy Ewe Solid Series color “cerise.” I can now knit cables without a cable needle (hurray).
My favorite project has been an Afghan with all different hues of blue using Malabrigo Rios! I’m making it as a surprise for my son’s girlfriend who just lost her mom a few weeks ago to try to bring her a little bit of comfort.
my favorite so far has been the pom-pom baby blanket by Hands Occupied. Making two of them, one purples, and one pinks, for my cousin’s daughter who is having twin girls in November! It is challenging enough to not be boring, buy also easy enough to not have to pay too close attention
The latvian blooms cowl I made was definitely my favorite project this year. So simple, but the finished product was just beautiful.
My favorite project so far this year is the hat with ears the I made for a production of Winnie the Pooh for the character of Rue!
Congrats on your move! Now we have to make another trip to Colorado to see your new place. So far this year my favorite finish has been the Clockwork shawl which was a long-standing WIP. Just recently I’ve started the Hillview Road Cowl and am loving it.
My favorite so far this year was my Camp Loopy project in June. I made a striped scarf for my sister in K2P2 holding two different colors together and changing one color per section-6 different colors in all. I like the marled look and that the scarf is cushy a bit like brioche without having done any brioche! I divided all of my yarns into two cakes each color and used a provisional cast on so I could work the second end to match the first and be sure I would have enough for each section.
My favorite project so far this year is the MKAL The Crown Wools by Casapinka, presently working on it now. I’m learning new patterns and its been a lot of fun. Waiting for Clues to come out is like Christmas morning, you can’t wait.
cowls for co workers
My favorite project has been the Ode to Veera shawl. It’s fabulous! My favorite yarns right now are speckles – everything speckled! Congratulations on a wonderful 12 years!
My favorite knit this year has been Harvest by Tincan Knits. Simple enough, but my first sweater and very fun!
Happy anniversary!
I am a new knitter so my favorite project was my first blanket. It was a simple garter stitch but it made me happy and my grandson loved getting it as a gift.
I gave myself the challenge to knit 12 sweaters in 2018. I have completed 7 so far ( 1 for my son , 1 for my sister and 5 for me). My favorite so far is the “ Humulus” by Isabell Kraemer. My next Cast on is Arboreal by Jennifer Steingass.
Always socks! But my favorite yarn this year is (still) Madelinetosh.
My favorite, a woods inspired wool blanket for a new grandbaby, backed with flannel. Still a WIP ready for Christmas I hope.
It’s so hard to choose! I think my favorite knitting project this year has been my Zinone top. Oh my gosh, it is so pretty and I just Love it! And my favorite sewing project is the project bag I made for myself!
Congratulations on 12 years! My favorite project this year was my Pixelation pullover (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/schmelinor/pixelated-pullover), which was made of some yarn I’d been trying to use in project after project for several years. And then this year it all came together! That was a real treat, and made the ripping, reknitting, hibernating, and frogging all worth it.
My favorite project is a pinwheel baby quilt I made for my sister for her upcoming baby using a subset of Farm Fresh fabric and matching Kona solids from The Loopy Ewe for July camp. It came out so nicely!
My favorite project was a 1×1 ribbed scarf I knit out of my own hand Spun!
Hi there! Nothing I made this year has been a “favorite.” I have knitted several projects that received rave reviews/comments from my friends. The prettiest item was the Pincha shawlette I knitted for my June Camp Loopy project. https://www.ravelry.com/projects/2Knitand2Bird/pincha-shawl LOL I learned a lot while making them!
My favorite project so far has been Simply Seamless Baby Blanket, with some challenge and some easy. Pearl
I am making a Welsh Boomerang shawl. One of the colors is Tainted Love by Knerd String DK weight.
Congrats on the anniversary and successful move! My fave project this year has been a cabled blanket I made for a friend who is getting married next month.
I have throughly enjoyed completing my Timber cardigan earlier this year. I used Cascade 220 and its such a perfect workhorse yarn and economical too! Can’t wait for cooler weather so that I can wear it!
My fave project recently is the Heroes Ponchetta by Michelle Como. The construction was different so was fun to knit. I used a variegated yarn which also made it fun.
Baby blankets. I’ve crocheted many baby blankets and now I’m learning to knit.
My favourite project has been the Uncia shawl by Lucy Hague. A super challenging knit where almost every row is different, no TV knitting here.
Almost complete I used some beautiful Madeline Tosh, Tosh Sock in the Opaline shade.
I loved reading about how your shop has grown. My favorite project this year so far has been making the squishy little puffs for The Beekeeper’s Quilt pattern. I’m about halfway to a throw blanket!
I knit a Tomten Jacket for my daughter. I mostly used some Mirasol Hacho from deep in my stash, but when it became clear that I didn’t have enough to finish, I found a perfect shade of Wollmeise to coordinate with color blocked sleeves and i-cord trim. I did my first ever installation of a zipper into knit fabric, and learned a bunch of sewing skills in the process. In the end, I got a sweater that fits her perfectly (including the hood, which I modified to make larger) and a zipper that lies flat and works smoothly. I am so proud of how this project turned out.
I knit a Tomten Jacket for my daughter (https://www.ravelry.com/projects/StarrySkyKnits/tomten-jacket). It was a project of challenges (pattern modification and running out of yarn) and developing new skills (zipper installation), but it turned out better than I could have hoped, and I am super proud of it.
