Anniversary Contest, Hedgehog, Magpie and More!

Our twelfth anniversary has rolled around and we are delighted to be celebrating it with you.

So many of you have been with us for all 12 years, while others of you discovered us just this month. We appreciate ALL of you and are happy to be celebrating creativity, inspiration and YOU, every single day. You bring joy to our lives, and we hope we bring joy to your life as well. We have some cool things planned for you this fall and winter, as we jump into our 13th year with you.

We started Loopy the summer of 2006, in a little corner of our basement. Here were our first four in-store (in-house!) shoppers. And what you see behind them was really about the size of the entire Loopy corner. After a few months we had to take over the rest of the basement (right photo).

A year later, we moved the business out of the house and into office/retail space (left), and a year after that we expanded that space as well (right).

In 2011, we packed up all of our shelves and products, and moved the shop from St. Louis, MO to Fort Collins, CO. We thought it was a big move at the time. (Turns out, our move this past month was a way bigger move, even though we were just going a couple of blocks down the road!)

After two years in that space, we expanded once again and added our Loopy Fabric Shop in 2013, so we could share beautiful colors with quilters and sewists.

This year (actually, this month), we moved once again to add in more space, a ground floor location, and lots of windows. It’s hard to get photos of all of the aisles and corners of this new shop, but we’ll do a video sometime for you. And we swear we are never moving again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Whether you’ve been with us for all 12 years, or just the last 12 days, we are happy to have you in our Loopy Family. It’s wonderful being surrounded by color and amazingly creative people every single day, both in person and online. We love doing this with you!

Now on to the Loopy Anniversary Celebration!

Anniversary yarn from our newest indie dyer: Dodecahedron is the name of our exclusive color from Hue Loco! This gorgeous color is dyed on their MCN base and comes with 412 yards in the skein. It would make a gorgeous sweater on its own, or mixed in with another MCN base for a Fade-type of sweater or scarf. (Of course you need a colorway called Dodecahedron in your yarn collection.)

Loopy Swag:
We’ve added in new white Loopy sweatshirts, insulated tumblers, sport bottles, and coffee mugs. I was gifted a coffee mug in this shape for Christmas and it is my favorite. Love the rounded, plump look! (Here is my favorite – along with the most amazing hot chocolate recipe…) Plus, this mug just feels nice in your hands. So I went looking specifically for this mug when it was time to order more for Loopy.

Anniversary Blog Contest:ย Want to win a $500 box of Loopy Love? Comment below to be entered into our Blog Anniversary Contest! Here’s the question: What has been your favorite project (yarn or fabric) so far this year?

Watch for more contests on our Instagram page, our Facebook page, and in our Ravelry group this month, too!

Monday Update:

Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn Each time we get yarn from an indie dyer, there is usually some variation in the colorway from the last time we received that same color. (Don’t worry – we do reshoot the color when it comes in different.) This batch just seems to have an extra special pop in all of the colors that are re-stocks and I am loving them even more! We have also added in their 10 new colors.

Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK
Have you tried Hedgehog DK? It is amazing. Feels good, looks good, and comes with 219 yards in the skein. We’ve re-stocked and added in the 10 new colors as well.

Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock
Do you need an end-of-the-summer present for yourself? This might be it. Swanky is 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon and the colors are beautiful.

Magpie Fibers Swanky DK
That same 80/10/10 Merino/Cashmere/Nylon base, but in their DK weight. If you’re gearing up for fall sweater knitting, this might be your perfect yarn!

Cavallini
– new designs in Mini Notebooks and Sticky Notes. We love Cavallini – they have cute designs, it feeds our notebook/pencil/sticky note addictions, and it makes it easy to take notes on your patterns and designs when you keep them in your project bags.

Cascade Superwash Sport, Ultra Pima, Hampton, Heritage Wave, Heritage Silk, 220 Superwash, 220, and 220 Superwash Aran re-stocks!

Our last Yarn Update included: Hue Loco Phyllis Sock, The Uncommon Thread Merino DK, Posh Fingering, Everyday Singles and Lush Worsted, Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd Worsted, Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere, and their Sock-It Club July colorway.

Have fun shopping through the new things, tag us on Instagram when you knit up our beautiful new anniversary color, and pop over to the blog to get in on the big contest.

  1. Happy anniversary Loopy! My favorite project so far has been knitting baby blankets to donate to a woman’s shelter.

  2. Happy Anniversary! My favorite project this year has been my Drachenfels shawl! Made in Heritage silk from Loopy Ewe fall fling.

  3. Happy 12 years and many more!! My continuing project (this year and past) are the hats I make for the Hats for Sailors on Ravelry. The favorite ones are made from Malabrigo – colors look great!

  4. What a great story and lovely yarn ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite project so far this year is a baby blanket. I’ve finished maybe one blanket in my crochet/knitting career because I can easily get lost along that time-consuming process. A lot of my friends are having their babies, but this is the first one in our family and I wanted to do something special. I found the perfect yarn (in my stash, actually, so hooray!), a fun pattern that gives texture for the new lass, and now I’m nearly done and couldn’t be more proud!

  5. Happy Anniversary!! My favorite project this year is my August Camp Loopy project. I know, I haven’t even started it yet! But after spending the first half of the year knitting all things baby (over 43 items!) for my new nieces (with a couple of shawls and socks thrown in there – as I wasn’t spending Loopy Academy lace project on the babies), it’s time to knit something for me. I splurged on DIC Smooshy with cashmere and am going to knit Joji Locatelli’s new Cathedral Wrap. I can’t wait!! It’ll be divine!

  6. Beautiful yarn shown above! I wish I could afford some. My favorite project this year has been a shawl I made from a vintage pattern published in 1972. It’s in a learn-to-crochet booklet that both my mother and grandmother learned to crochet from. I just need to add the fringe and it’ll be done.

  7. Happy anniversary! My favorite project is little lavender sachets I am knitting using the hexipuff blanket pattern. My knitting back has never smelled so good!

  8. My favorite yarn is definitely the Woolen Boon I bought for my July Camp Project! I will definitely be buying more of this!

  9. I”m “Finding My Fade” using Loopy Legends I bought at the shop last year on our first trip to Colorado. We’re heading back again this year definitely plan on stocking up again!
    Happy Anniversary!

  10. I am so happy that i found your website this year! My favorite project so far is my Rebel 2 shawl. I used Madelinetosh Merino Light that i got from you! Congratulations on 12 years!

  11. My favorite project has been FAIR ile fishermen keeps. So much creativity within the bounds of tradition. And does sent take forever to knit.

  12. Congrats on the anniversary. I discovered Loopy Ewe when I started knitting nine years ago! My favorite project this year has been My Cryptonite in shades of green and blue Wollmeise!

  13. Happy anniversary! I remember my first Loopy purchase, a skein of Wollmeise laceweight, at the outrageous price of $45! My favorite project this year has been the High Sierra KAL with Romi Hill. Wasnโ€™t a huge fan of the yarn, but I loved the pattern

  14. Happy Anniversary — your shop is the highlight of every visit to FoCo! I discovered the Corners, Edges, and Stripes shawl by Martina Behm a few months ago and have really enjoyed experimenting with different Wollmeise color combinations. My latest project incorporates the Wollmeise Birdies into that pattern, and it is stunning!

  15. Truthfully, I’ve hardly knit anything at all these last few years, since my father passed. Recently though, I’ve picked up the needles again & have been working on the Lucy hat, a lovely little 20s inspired cloche in Madeline Tosh Vintage (seemed appropriate). It’s been going incredibly fast, and I can’t wait to wear it.

I remember when you first opened, Sheri, and I was instantly in love. As a customer, I can buy yarn most anywhere, but your customer service is absolutely unbeatable. I have been consistently impressed with you & your company from day one, and I’m so happy you’re doing so well!

    1. I’m so sorry to hear about your father, Heather. I hope your knitting love will come back and be a comfort to you. (We love having you here.)

  16. Happy, Happy Anniversary! Love Malabrigo Sock, in any colorway. My favorite project this year has been knitting my first Reyna. I am sure that I wil knit a few more shawls using that pattern.

  17. Happy Anniversary! I love shopping online with you, your selection and customer service is fantastic!
My favorite project this year has been Reyna knit with Ancient Arts Woof Collection.

  18. Happy anniversary!

My favorite project so far this year has been my June camp project, Aoibhe Ni’s Venus (Tunisian crochet shawl) in Malabrigo Sock. Fun to work up and the yarn was fantastic.

  19. Happy anniversary! My favorite project this year is any pair of socks that I can knit with my ChiaoGoo needles.

  20. Happy Anniversary! I hope to visit Colorado and your shop one day! My favorite project this year is a Rikke hat knit in Entropy DK. It’s my favorite because the yarn was a gift from my sister-in-love. She was walking around while visiting Brooklyn, NY and saw a yarn store. She went in and purchased yarn for me! She gets me!!!

  21. Happy Anniversary! My favorite project this year was knitting the Weekend Retreat cowel for my niece. The thing that made it extra special was that I was able to pack the yarn I had bought for it (along with 2 other projects) when I was evacuated in October during the wildfires here in Northern California. The rest of my yarn didn’t survive the fire. The best thing was the smile on my niece’s face when she saw the cowel.

  22. my fave yarn, Dream in color Classy, is knitting up into a beautiful little cabled cowl as a gift for a friend (but I should make one for ME too) Happiest anniversary to the coolest, savviest, most fun ‘small business’ ever! May there be many more years and yarns (and fabric!) ahead

  23. Happy Anniversary! I was fortunate to visit the Fort Collins store and participate in a Knit Night. My niece lived in FC when she was studying at CSU for her veterinarian cardiology residency. My favorite project was Cavallo Point Shawl that I made for Camp Loopy. I used Malabrigo Silky Yarn. I love how the lace looks.

  24. My favorite project this year was Gardens of Giverny by Alina Appasova because of the construction of the pattern and the play of the plain color bordering the multi-color lace pattern. My most used Thread has been Cascade yarn because it works for projects that will be washed frequently. For socks I like Sweet Georgia Bulletproof Sock yarn.
Happy 12th anniversary and enjoy your new home. I saw it this month and you have arranged everything so it is easy to look at the yarn colors when making decisions..

  25. Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful collection of yarns. My favorite project is knitting hats for my very extended family (about 40). Everyone gets a hat from Gramma Karen!!!

  26. Happy Anniversary! And to many many more!!
My favorite project so far is my June Camp Loopy entry: a (not-so) Ombre cardigan, a pattern by Tanis Lavallee (one of my favorite designers) using Malabrigo Sock (favorite yarn) in the Pocion colorway (a new favorite color!). I’m wearing this project a few times a wek since it’s off the needles.

  27. My favorite project has been the Waiting For Rain shawl. It’s been a fun project, but I started it as a reward for myself for passing a big industry certification.

  28. Happy Anniversary!!! I am loving the Jessie’s girl pattern made with Cascade Hampton. My first foray into using linen!

  29. I think my favorite project so far was the cowgirl quilt I made for Camp Loopy June project. Seems most of my favorite projects are made during camp months each year.
    Happy anniversary!

  30. Best Wishes for a Happy Anniversary! I can’t wait to make a trip out west to visit the shop. My favorite project usually is the one I’m working on at the time and the one I have just finished because I actually finished it. At the moment my favorite is a baby sweater with a lobster motif for a friends new grandson! My favorite finished project is a pair of self striping socks!!!

  31. Happy Anniversary!! I get to CO at least once a year and stopping at Loopy Ewe is always part of my trip. Iโ€™m having fun with knitting a mitered square scrap blanket right now. Love pulling out my leftover sock yarns and thinking about the project I had used it for.

  32. 12 years! That is such a fabulous accomplishment! Congratulations! My favorite project is ALWAYS the next one just going onto my needles. And that will be a baby blanket for my twin niece and nephew. I did enjoy making the Hipster Shawl and learning a new stitch.

  33. I’ve been a customer for many years and love your shop and customer service. I made a sock arms sweater that was a really great project and learned some new skills.

  34. Happy Anniversary! So far this year my favorite project was the organic cotton baby hooded towel kit I got from you all.

  35. Happy anniversary Loopy. My favorite project has been making sweaters. I love how your colors blend into another color and all of the choices you can make into a beautiful surprise sweater or shawl.

  36. This year I’ve made Ishbels (by Ysolda Teague) for myself, my mom, and both my grandmothers! It’s such a great pattern!

  37. Happy anniversary! I know I’ve been shopping with you for close to the whole time! I think my favorite project this year was when I sewed my own shirt! I’ve knitted them for years, but never thought I had the capacity to sew one.

  38. Happy Anniversary! My favorite project this year is my Boneyard Shawl from Stephen West. My husband bought me 3 hanks of Blue Moon Fiber Arts Worthy in the Vancouver Violet colorway. I used all of it to make myself the most luxurious shawl ever — much needed after so much gift-knitting last year!

  39. Happy Anniversary! My favorite sewing project this year has been a set of quilt as you go placemats I made for a wedding gift (so easy). My favorite knitting project is socks that I’m working on now. I’m using a new to me yarn (La Jolla by Baah yarns) and new to me needles (ChiaoGoo premium bamboo circs). Love both of them!

  40. My favorite knit this year was an entrelac blanket – I really enjoyed learning this technique because the Forest Path Stole is on my bucket list to knit. Next up as well is diving into brioche….enjoying my retirement.

  41. Happy Anniversary. My favorite project was the Fading Point for my June 2018 Camp Loopy project with Black Elephant yarn.

  42. My favorite project is Sunwalker by Melanie Berg.
Is is easy to knit, works with different yarns (solid and varigated) and is nice to wear ๐Ÿ™‚
I love to knit is with Hedgehog Fibers, like I did for this years Camp in June.
