Anniversary Contest, Hedgehog, Magpie and More!

Our twelfth anniversary has rolled around and we are delighted to be celebrating it with you.

So many of you have been with us for all 12 years, while others of you discovered us just this month. We appreciate ALL of you and are happy to be celebrating creativity, inspiration and YOU, every single day. You bring joy to our lives, and we hope we bring joy to your life as well. We have some cool things planned for you this fall and winter, as we jump into our 13th year with you.

We started Loopy the summer of 2006, in a little corner of our basement. Here were our first four in-store (in-house!) shoppers. And what you see behind them was really about the size of the entire Loopy corner. After a few months we had to take over the rest of the basement (right photo).

A year later, we moved the business out of the house and into office/retail space (left), and a year after that we expanded that space as well (right).

In 2011, we packed up all of our shelves and products, and moved the shop from St. Louis, MO to Fort Collins, CO. We thought it was a big move at the time. (Turns out, our move this past month was a way bigger move, even though we were just going a couple of blocks down the road!)

After two years in that space, we expanded once again and added our Loopy Fabric Shop in 2013, so we could share beautiful colors with quilters and sewists.

This year (actually, this month), we moved once again to add in more space, a ground floor location, and lots of windows. It’s hard to get photos of all of the aisles and corners of this new shop, but we’ll do a video sometime for you. And we swear we are never moving again. 🙂

Whether you’ve been with us for all 12 years, or just the last 12 days, we are happy to have you in our Loopy Family. It’s wonderful being surrounded by color and amazingly creative people every single day, both in person and online. We love doing this with you!

Now on to the Loopy Anniversary Celebration!

Anniversary yarn from our newest indie dyer: Dodecahedron is the name of our exclusive color from Hue Loco! This gorgeous color is dyed on their MCN base and comes with 412 yards in the skein. It would make a gorgeous sweater on its own, or mixed in with another MCN base for a Fade-type of sweater or scarf. (Of course you need a colorway called Dodecahedron in your yarn collection.)

Loopy Swag:
We’ve added in new white Loopy sweatshirts, insulated tumblers, sport bottles, and coffee mugs. I was gifted a coffee mug in this shape for Christmas and it is my favorite. Love the rounded, plump look! (Here is my favorite – along with the most amazing hot chocolate recipe…) Plus, this mug just feels nice in your hands. So I went looking specifically for this mug when it was time to order more for Loopy.

Anniversary Blog Contest: Want to win a $500 box of Loopy Love? Comment below to be entered into our Blog Anniversary Contest! Here’s the question: What has been your favorite project (yarn or fabric) so far this year?

Watch for more contests on our Instagram page, our Facebook page, and in our Ravelry group this month, too!

Monday Update:

Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn Each time we get yarn from an indie dyer, there is usually some variation in the colorway from the last time we received that same color. (Don’t worry – we do reshoot the color when it comes in different.) This batch just seems to have an extra special pop in all of the colors that are re-stocks and I am loving them even more! We have also added in their 10 new colors.

Hedgehog Fibres Merino DK
Have you tried Hedgehog DK? It is amazing. Feels good, looks good, and comes with 219 yards in the skein. We’ve re-stocked and added in the 10 new colors as well.

Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock
Do you need an end-of-the-summer present for yourself? This might be it. Swanky is 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere and 10% Nylon and the colors are beautiful.

Magpie Fibers Swanky DK
That same 80/10/10 Merino/Cashmere/Nylon base, but in their DK weight. If you’re gearing up for fall sweater knitting, this might be your perfect yarn!

Cavallini
– new designs in Mini Notebooks and Sticky Notes. We love Cavallini – they have cute designs, it feeds our notebook/pencil/sticky note addictions, and it makes it easy to take notes on your patterns and designs when you keep them in your project bags.

Cascade Superwash Sport, Ultra Pima, Hampton, Heritage Wave, Heritage Silk, 220 Superwash, 220, and 220 Superwash Aran re-stocks!

Our last Yarn Update included: Hue Loco Phyllis Sock, The Uncommon Thread Merino DK, Posh Fingering, Everyday Singles and Lush Worsted, Stonehedge Fiber Mill’s Shepherd Worsted, Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere, and their Sock-It Club July colorway.

Have fun shopping through the new things, tag us on Instagram when you knit up our beautiful new anniversary color, and pop over to the blog to get in on the big contest.

  1. My favorite project this year was knitting Ecuador. A really great sweater that I think I want to knit in one of those HedgeHog fiber but which one? Congratulations to the best online store there is!!

  2. My favorite project was True Colors. I used two sets of Canon Hand Dyes minis, and loved the results!

  3. Congratulations on your anniversary! I’m so glad that I found this store a few years back. My favorite project was the one that I just completed for Camp Loopy in July, the Albuquerque Sunset shawl. The colors just make me smile!

  4. My favorite project was a Song of the Sea cowl using Canon Hand Dyed William Merino gradient yarn. I loved how the yarn knitted up and can’t wait to use it again.

  5. I think my favorite project this year is a granny square Afghan i have almost completed. I love the colors (maily black with jewel tones) and since it’s crochet, it has been fast. It has been somewhat of a knitting drought, so i am getting my mojo back.

  6. Happy Anniversary! I have had another slow knitting year…hoping my mojon comes back soon! I finally finished a “Bigger on the Inside” shawl for my daughter that I quite enjoyed. I’m pretty proud that I share my love for Doctor Who with her, so it seems appropriate.

  7. Happy Anniversary! I think my favorite project so far this year was a wee baby sweater. I enjoyed it enough that I would certainly knit it again. Celebrating that I can shop at Loopy Ewe any day and any time I like. Here’s to the best LYS around.

  8. My favourite project this year is easily my July camp loopy project Equal Night from Sylvia McFadden which I adapted down to Worsted Weight so I could use Malabrigo Rios is the delicious Valentina Colourway

  9. My favorite yarn this year has been Cascade Hampton. I love the Cotten/Linen combo and it’s a wonder yarn to knit with in the summer. I’ve made one lacy sweater (Giesta) and I’m getting ready to start a second sleeveless sweater (Nasreen) for Fall. Love, love, love it!

  10. I’ve been with you for 7 years! It was fun looking back at my orders. I’m happy to be a Loopy Groupie! …and flattered to have several of my projects featured on your Instagram!

  11. Happy anniversary! Ive been with you since the beginning. I don’t have any favorite projects this year yet. I’ve been fighting cancer and no energy to knit. Instead I’m dreaming of projects and putting yarns together for when I can knit again. My favorite of those so far is Suburban wrap. I’ve come up with so many colors that I just haven’t been able to choose one just yet.

  12. I seem to recovered my knitting mojo with the help of Madelainetosh Pashmina and Purl Soho top down turtle neck cardigan. Hoping it lasts until cast off!

  13. My most favorite project this year has been all of the scarves I’ve been knitting out of scraps, mini skeins and leftovers, stockpiling for this fall to send onto my two favorite places for charity needs, a school up in northern Ohio near the Canadian border, and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I love knitting for these two groups, as they need the knits for warmth, and they are so appreciative of even the smallest gesture of kindness.
Congrats on your anniversary and I hope to be shopping with you guys for many more years!!!

  14. Happy 12th Anniversary! My favorite project so far is a silly crocheted apron with 15 egg shaped pockets for … collecting eggs!! I gave it to a friend that has a coop with 21 lovely feathered ladies happily laying inside

  15. My favorite project this year was the Maythem Shawl. Knit with Magpie Fibers Swanky Sock~my absolute favorite yarn and the largest shawl I have ever made!

Happy Anniversary Loopy Ewe~my favorite yarn store….

  16. I started a pair of Speckled Space Socks in Loopy Legends colorway Beth’s Love for Casper and they are stunning.

  17. Happy Anniversary! I hope you have many, many more:)
My favorite project this year is my Waiting For Rain shawl. I loved knitting it and the yarn (JulieSpins Euro Fingering) is fantastic.

  18. My favorite project this year has been creating a handspun 3-ply from some old stash and some new stash fiber.

  19. I am infatuated with knitting bird mittens! Susan Anderson-Freed’s book “Colorwork Creations” has me hooked! Too many wonderful patters, and wonderful possibilities when you pair interesting color combinations.

  20. Honestly mine has been a simple ribbed baby blanket. The repetitive movement with just a tiny bit of concentration required has been so soothing.

  21. Finally knitting hubby’s WM Flomarkt yarn into socks. We had left the house when I got a phone message that you had posted an update and he drove around the block so I could go back into the house to order WM from the home computer.

  22. Socks, always socks-any of them, all of them! Congratulations, Sheri–miss you in St. L.-maybe will get yo the CO location someday!

  23. Happg anniversary, Loopy Ewe!! My June Camp project has been my favorite knit so far this year. I knit up Andrea Mowry’s Ramble and it renewed my love of brioche!

  24. Congrats to Sheri and the Elves! I have been a Loopy customer since you were in St. Louis. I most admire not only the beautiful yarn you have for us to buy, but the community you have created. Everything from Loopy Camp, Loopy Academy, all the kits, recipes, highlighting different designers, giving small business owners who make knitting bags exposure, and to top it all off, Fabric! Of course, the Ravelry Group to keep us all in touch with each other all over the world. Thank you Sheri for what you have created and given us this oasis in a world that is not so kind! Denise

  25. My favorite finished project in 2018 so far was a Textured Cowl by Abi Gregorio which I knit for the younger daughter of a long time co-worker for her college graduation gift. I knit fingerless mitts for her (and earlier for her sister) when they graduated from high school, and each got a cowl of their choice in terms of long/short, which color(s), and which yarn. This one was knit with Malabrigo Rasta in Abril which I bought at TLE in 2014. Stash is good!

  26. My favorite project this year has been working down my stash – right now I am working on the Augusta Cardigan from “New England Knits” in a caramel-colored WW.

Favorite yarn….hm, maybe Dream in Color’s Smooshy?

  27. My favorite project has definitely been my June Camp shawl. I started it at my college reunion, and it has all sorts of wonderful memories associated with it

  28. I really love my Kimber shawl that I made by the designer Ambah. I have never been fond of the color brown and had never knit with it because of that. I decided I was limiting myself and needed to get outside of my comfort zone.

After seeing the gorgeous colors in the Uschitita yarns you carried, I decided to try incorporating brown and golds in this shawl project. My finished shawl is amazing and it’s opened a whole new world of color to me. I love most everything you carry, but I’m particularly happy with the wonderful Indie dyed yarn, like Uschitita, that you have introduced me to. I could never buy anything like that in my area and think of you as my LYS.

With your amazing customer service my items almost always arrive within 2 days, even though l live across the country from you, and I know I can rely on you for that. Between that, your help with picking colors and your patience in always quickly answering my questions, I’m glad you’ve been there for me for the 4 years I’ve been knitting. Thank you and I hope you have many more anniversaries!

    1. It’s so fun to read about how your branched out in your color choices and now love the finished project. I think we all need to do that more often. (I seem to have a lot of blues and teals, myself.)

  31. Definitely the booklet pouch by aneela hoey I just finished! Congrats on 12 years, I’ve been hanging around since…2012.love you guys!

  34. I don’t have a favorite project yet this year but I think it’s going to be my August Camp Loopy project as I can’t wait to knit it. Happy Anniversary!

  35. Happy 12th Anniversary! I’m actually celebrating my 39th Anniversary in a few days. My favorites project(s) this year have been socks.

  36. Oh, my gosh! Has it really been that long? I remember the corner of the basement. You had a couch that was the same color as my daughter’s couch! I don’t know how to pick. It’s like choosing you favorite child!

  37. My favorite project in 2018 is my bum cozy. It was a fun cable pattern with a nice tight rib for the waste band. The pattern was easy to memorize and the flow was stress releasing.

  40. I really loved working with the Malabrigo Rios in the colorway Solis. I made a poncho with it and am looking forward to wearing it this winter.

  41. My favorite project was the Jurata shawl that I did for July Camp Loopy. I would never have tackled that, and certainly not finished it within one month had it not been for the Camp Loopy guidelines. I love the pattern. I love the arn and the colors.

I’ve been with you almost nine years . . it’s been fun!

You and the elves give fantastic customer service and I appreciate that you’re out there for us.
