Wednesday Ketchup-Catsup-Catch-Up and a CONTEST

This is a Ketchup Catsup Catch-up day on the blog, as there are miscellaneous things I wanted to touch base on today. First of all, we have prizes to award:

1. For Loopy’s Spring Challenge, we used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from all participants. Meredith in MA and Kristine in CO each won a $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificate!

2. For the blog contest about great knitting books for your library, we are sending Light and Layered Knits to Marla in CA, Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary to Stephanie in CO, The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume One to Jane in KS, and The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume Two to Lindsay in PA. (Remember, if you’d like a good deal on Hunter’s patterns or ebooks, you have until this Friday to pick one out because of the special offer she set up for us! See our Designer Spotlight blog post with Hunter for details.)

Summer-Love-Wrap-The-Loopy-Ewe3. Camp Loopy – how are your first projects coming along? I really like my Summer Love Wrap, done in Universal’s Cotton Supreme. I made a sweater out of this same color once, but it was too big (and darned if that yarn does.not.shrink no matter how many times you wash it and send it through a hot dryer). I had to give it away. So I’m glad to have something else done up in this beautiful Aqua color.

Pogona-The-Loopy-Ewe4. Also regarding Camp Loopy – this Glamping on Loopy Lake colorway is one of my most favorites ever. Next, I want a sweater out of it. (Click on the photo to see how the deep lake navy and the deep woods green play together). I also saved enough skeins of the February color for a sweater. And I think the March Celebrations color would be the greatest color in the world for a t-shirt and jeans sweater. Of course Jack is Back would be a beautiful neutral sweater for blacks and browns. I also set aside a skein of it to make myself Jack Socks.

5. I had to search on Ravelry to see if there were any cute Jack Sock patterns. Maybe Jack Thermal. I did find this adorable Jack-O-Lantern, which has nothing to do with the Jack is Back colorway. But isn’t he fun? I love Alan Dart patterns.

SONY DSC6. I ran across the best shortcut for making s’mores, ever.

7. For those of you who email often to ask how Mocha-the-outdoor-cat is doing these days, here’s a photo from this past weekend. He still belongs to our backyard neighbors, but he spends several days a week sleeping the day away on our back deck, and popping over a few times in the evenings as he takes his neighborhood stroll. I’m pretty sure they have no idea he spends half his life at our house. We’re happy to have him around. Since that post in the link above from 12/11, not only do we put food and water out for him, but we give him a daily brushing and he loves to be picked up. Do you think that might be why he hangs around?? 🙂

Burger8. Back to ketchup – I had homemade (restaurant-made) ketchup in Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in Las Vegas last fall, when I was there for a yarn industry meeting. (Look – here’s a blurry picture of Beth from Lorna’s Laces, but at least you can see the amazing fries and homemade ketchup on our table.) It was the best ketchup ever. Want to try your hand at homemade Ketchup? Here’s a link that I found on Pinterest. Or this one looks good, too.

9. Or how about Ketchup cookies?  (Um, no.)

Mrs-Crosby2-The-Loopy-Ewe10. What’s your favorite thing to put ketchup on? And how do you prefer to spell it: Catsup or Ketchup?

Leave a comment below and we’ll pick a winner for this fun giftbag from Mrs. Crosby! It contains a skein of Steamer Trunk in Sunset Regatta, a skein of Carpet Bag in Hot Pimiento, a bar of Rosemary Mint Soap, a cute knitting card, and a pattern for Bettie’s Bell hat, which uses either a skein of Steamer Trunk or Carpet Bag. So you could make two hats – one for yourself and one for a friend. We’ll announce the winner in next Wednesday’s blog!

  1. Spelled with a “K” and mixed with tartar sauce on fries is the best. I also like it homemade: the best!

  2. Oh no! I hate ketchup… But I understand the love others have for it. I have never tried making it at home before. Perhaps I’d be a convert. Thanks for the giveaway, though! I hope I didn’t disqualify myself 🙂

  3. I prefer Ketchup because catsup just sounds like dinner for a kitty! Favorite food to put ketchup on? Fries! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

  4. Living in PR we learned how islanders like to eat their fries! With MayoKetchup. They even sell it premixed in the grocery stores. It’s Mayo mixed with Ketchup and garlic. It sounds weird but the combination works well with almost everything!

  5. I spell it ketchup as that is how I pronounce it. My favorite thing to put it on is French fries and second is pork especially if the pork is dry.

  6. It really depends on the french fry. Some of the handcut fries are best nekkid (except for salt, of course). Last sunday had some wonderful handcut fries with house-made ketchup at a local restaurant. I preferred the ketchup only on my burger.

  7. Why, KETCHUP – yes! We don’t use it a whole lot but that’s how we spell it when we do – mostly on fries.

  8. Catsup – I like to mix with mayo for fries and also for hamburgers and hotdogs. I have some homemade catsup that I got at a German festival… better than any catsup I’ve had anywhere.

  9. French fries and catsup, because apparently I am a snob. I also get unreasonably upset when I see signs for a Drive Thru. When I rule the world, things will be different. 🙂

  10. Ketchup and for me it is fries and ketchup that go the best together. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  11. It’s Ketchup at my house. The favorite thing to put it on – when I was growing up the man who owned the rollerskating rink made homemade fries in the little snack shop – popping hot out of the fryer – perfection!

  12. I like to mix ketchup and mayo together on a hamburger. I use mayo alone on my fries. Picked that up in Europe and discovered I preferred it that way.

  13. I prefer “Ketchup” – and I love it on the fried-bologna-and-cheese sandwiches my mom used to make for me!

  14. Ketchup with a K and it should be Heinz. I put lots on my hamburger and then more ketchup on my plate to dip the hamburger in. Maybe you could say I eat a hamburger with my ketchup.

  15. French fries are about the only thing I put ketchup on, and then just a little. I used to be a big ketchup fan, but over the years it seems that it’s gotten to be just too sweet for me. I need to find some nice, spicy variety now.

  16. I write ‘catsup’, although I’ve always wondered where this spelling came from — it doesn’t look a bit like how you say it!

I think my favorite thing to put catsup on, or rather to dip into catsup, is french fries, but I must have catsup on my scrambled eggs (unless there’s ham or cheese in them)! That’s how my Daddy taught me to eat them!

  17. Spelled with a “k” and on my mom’s meatloaf… yum! She never has to ask what I want when I come home because she knows I’ll say “Meatloaf – and burn the top of it so it’s crunchy.” Today is her 75th birthday – Happy Birthday, Mom!

  18. Ketchup, and I prefer Heinz (I’m from the Pittaburgh, PA area). I like to put ketchup on my Mac and Cheese!

  19. I spell it with a C – catsup. My favorite things to put catsup on is Hamburgers, hot dogs and fries.

  20. Here in Idaho it’s neither ketchup nor catsup. We eat fry sauce instead. I gotta admit–it’s better than ketchup–and you know we love our taters here!

  21. I usually spell it with a K, and two of my favorite things to eat with ketchup are Grilled Cheese and Eggs, not to mention, fries….yummy!!! 🙂 Thanks for another contest!! 🙂

  22. I am plugging away on my camp project! I will probably be working on it up until the last day!!!
Mocha looks very happy in your yard!!!!
Ketchup. I like that spelling. I like it on scrambled eggs and Mac and cheese the best. I have gone to a mostly gluten free diet now, so if I have pasta it is usually made of rice or corn now. I think I will hunt for a gluten free ketchup on Pinterest. Most of the ketchups on the market are filled with sugars and extra stuff that isn’t really necessary!
    Fun contest, Sheri! Thanks!

  23. Katsup and ranch makes a great dip for fries. We have a local place that makes sour cream and chive fries TO DIE FOR. Mmmmm….

  24. I spell it ketchup, although I secretly wish I spelled it catsup (although that might kind of make me a hipster). Favorite thing to put ketchup on is a hamburger….I prefer ranch dressing for my fries.

  25. I love ketchup, too–on hotdogs and hamburgers. My brother told me that only mustard goes on hotdogs but he is wrong as usual !

  26. When I was growing up we always had catsup, now I get laughs when I say it. I have to put ketchup on fries, burgers and hot dogs. It’s really good on scrambled eggs too.

  27. Oh, that recipe from Heinz is an insult to cookie-dom! Ketchup is best on a ballpark hotdog, eaten sitting in the sun during the 7th inning stretch 🙂
