Wednesday Ketchup-Catsup-Catch-Up and a CONTEST

This is a Ketchup Catsup Catch-up day on the blog, as there are miscellaneous things I wanted to touch base on today. First of all, we have prizes to award:

1. For Loopy’s Spring Challenge, we used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from all participants. Meredith in MA and Kristine in CO each won a $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificate!

2. For the blog contest about great knitting books for your library, we are sending Light and Layered Knits to Marla in CA, Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary to Stephanie in CO, The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume One to Jane in KS, and The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume Two to Lindsay in PA. (Remember, if you’d like a good deal on Hunter’s patterns or ebooks, you have until this Friday to pick one out because of the special offer she set up for us! See our Designer Spotlight blog post with Hunter for details.)

Summer-Love-Wrap-The-Loopy-Ewe3. Camp Loopy – how are your first projects coming along? I really like my Summer Love Wrap, done in Universal’s Cotton Supreme. I made a sweater out of this same color once, but it was too big (and darned if that yarn does.not.shrink no matter how many times you wash it and send it through a hot dryer). I had to give it away. So I’m glad to have something else done up in this beautiful Aqua color.

Pogona-The-Loopy-Ewe4. Also regarding Camp Loopy – this Glamping on Loopy Lake colorway is one of my most favorites ever. Next, I want a sweater out of it. (Click on the photo to see how the deep lake navy and the deep woods green play together). I also saved enough skeins of the February color for a sweater. And I think the March Celebrations color would be the greatest color in the world for a t-shirt and jeans sweater. Of course Jack is Back would be a beautiful neutral sweater for blacks and browns. I also set aside a skein of it to make myself Jack Socks.

5. I had to search on Ravelry to see if there were any cute Jack Sock patterns. Maybe Jack Thermal. I did find this adorable Jack-O-Lantern, which has nothing to do with the Jack is Back colorway. But isn’t he fun? I love Alan Dart patterns.

SONY DSC6. I ran across the best shortcut for making s’mores, ever.

7. For those of you who email often to ask how Mocha-the-outdoor-cat is doing these days, here’s a photo from this past weekend. He still belongs to our backyard neighbors, but he spends several days a week sleeping the day away on our back deck, and popping over a few times in the evenings as he takes his neighborhood stroll. I’m pretty sure they have no idea he spends half his life at our house. We’re happy to have him around. Since that post in the link above from 12/11, not only do we put food and water out for him, but we give him a daily brushing and he loves to be picked up. Do you think that might be why he hangs around?? 🙂

Burger8. Back to ketchup – I had homemade (restaurant-made) ketchup in Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in Las Vegas last fall, when I was there for a yarn industry meeting. (Look – here’s a blurry picture of Beth from Lorna’s Laces, but at least you can see the amazing fries and homemade ketchup on our table.) It was the best ketchup ever. Want to try your hand at homemade Ketchup? Here’s a link that I found on Pinterest. Or this one looks good, too.

9. Or how about Ketchup cookies?  (Um, no.)

Mrs-Crosby2-The-Loopy-Ewe10. What’s your favorite thing to put ketchup on? And how do you prefer to spell it: Catsup or Ketchup?

Leave a comment below and we’ll pick a winner for this fun giftbag from Mrs. Crosby! It contains a skein of Steamer Trunk in Sunset Regatta, a skein of Carpet Bag in Hot Pimiento, a bar of Rosemary Mint Soap, a cute knitting card, and a pattern for Bettie’s Bell hat, which uses either a skein of Steamer Trunk or Carpet Bag. So you could make two hats – one for yourself and one for a friend. We’ll announce the winner in next Wednesday’s blog!

  1. Omg..we had a cat that looked so much like yours and did the same thing. Spent more and more time at our house. We moved, and believe me such a hard decision to leave our beloved Shiloh behind. A friend’s daughter bought the house, she was Not a cat person. Everyday Shiloh would come over, and just look at her as if to say where is my family. She was a high school teacher, and the kid who owned him was her student. One day they were talking and the kid complained the cat went on his car and didn’t seem ” just right” she said I will tell what is wrong he loves Jim and Sandi, they love him ( my hubby would drive the old neighbor hood to find him just to pet him). The kid said maybe they should have him. She said yes they should, let’s take him right now! They pulled up in our drive, I saw them carrying Shiloh and just cried, put him in my arms, he snuggled me close, I put him down on the carpet, he purred, rolled on his back, and never left! He was home. Brought us so much joy, and we were done with pets we thought. We had to put him down 14 months ago at 19 years old. Not a day goes by we do not miss him. Sometimes an animal chooses who he wants….

  2. Oh, it’s definitely Ketchup. 🙂 As a kid, I used it on steak! Now, it’s pretty much exclusively fries.

  3. Ketchup, because that’s the way I say it. Those recipes are
very tempting. Never made ketchup before but if my tomato crop is good I just might get it a try.

  4. The spell it Ketchup and one of my favorite things to put it on is fish sticks. It totally takes me back to my childhood.

  5. It’s Ketchup and it’s Heinz, always. It’s okay, I’m from Pittsburgh, the home of Heinz. Love it on a cheeseburger.

  6. Ooh nice giveaway! I actually prefer my ketchup on the side of things so I dip each bit of fry or burger or hot dog in it and every bite has some on it.

  7. definitely Ketchup. 🙂 and i love them over eggs. my grandpa taught me that long ago and it’s the only way i’ll eat scrambled eggs. thank you for the opportunity to win.

  8. I like spelling it catsup, but have been known to spell it ketchup as well.
I use it mostly on French fries and hamburgers.

  9. For me catsup and ketchup are 2 different things. Catsup is much thinner than ketchup, in my book. I put ketchup and tobasco sauce on eggs, and of course ketchup on fries, but also on most breaded and fried veggies such as zucchini, cauliflower or broccoli. Oh, and then there are cheese sticks too. Num num.

  10. Comfort food=summer sausage with catsup sandwiches (my dad and sister liked summer sausage and grape jelly, but I never got into that combo)

  11. I’ve never made any home made ketchup but it sounds good. I use ketchup in small amounts in a couple of recipes, a great baked bean recipe and Martha Stewarts home made sloppy joes. I try not to eat too many fries and I now prefer ranch on fries when I do eat them. I am dying to try Mrs Crosby – hummm maybe for CL #3 but I would love to win this gift pack. Thanks for the opp. Mel

  12. Oh love sandi’s story Glad it had a happy ending!
Ketchup and fries….or just about anything 🙂

  13. Believe it or not, I think I am the only person on the planet that thinks ketchup is the worst condiment ever. I will put mustard on anything. That said, I had a neighbor for years that pronounced it catsup. I always loved to hear the way she said it!

  14. I really loved the Mrs. Crosby Hatbox yarn in the Giftables kit this spring and would love to try the other weights. The colors are terrific and the yarn is amazingly soft. It’s a wonderful addition to your stock!

  15. I don’t use much ketchup…except in my brisket recipe which uses ketchup onion soup mix and brown sugar. My new favorite is mayo on my fries…or aioli.

  16. I like ketchup! I have never made my own, but it sounds delicious! What a great prize. You are so generous!

  17. Meant to say that I’m not keen on catsup, but love ‘cocktail sauce’ which is more catsup with horseradish. It’s the best with seafood, but I’ll use it anywhere you’d use catsup. I guess I’m a ‘c’ speller of the word…

  18. That cat looks like royalty! Catsup it is and it is best on cheeseburgers and french fries. I don’t eat many fries anymore.

  19. Ketchup. I only eat it with stuffed green peppers and meatloaf. Kind of strange but that’s what I like 🙂

  20. Of course I like “Ketchup” on the usual burgers, hot dogs and french fries, but I also like it on fried eggs!

  21. There is a sweet children’s book (Charlie Anderson) about a cat who has two homes. LOVE catsup/ketchup!!! Either spelling is great……please pass the fries! : )

  22. Ketchup is my spelling of choice.. and I prefer to add extra garlic powder and some fresh ground pepper and mix that in.. and use this super yummy ketchup to dip my sweet potato fries in.. YUM!!!

I love the updates on the kitties, and Mocha is so adorable!! 🙂

  23. It’s “ketchup” and the best place for it is a hot dog… I know that’s not how to do it when you live in Chicago but too bad. It’s delicious!

  24. Our family members are ketchup fanatics! We often say “having a few fries with that ketchup.” Had to keep the warehouse size in the pantry when the kids were growing up. We have stabilized now – always Heinz on fries, burgers and eggs.

  25. I spell it catsup and when I was a child, my favorite thing to put catsup on was scrambled eggs or fried egg sandwiches. So yummy!

  26. I don’t eat much ketchup, but when I do it’s almost always on French fries. I usually have to mix it with mustard and/or steak sauce first though. 🙂

  27. I spell it both ways and I love ketchup on hamburgers!

The cat count here is two indoors and 8 outdoors! Still have my happy outdoors group. Love them!
