Frozen in Iowa and a CONTEST!

392I’m back from several days in Iowa, where it is COLD COLD COLD. I grew up in Iowa. I should know how cold it is there. But apparently, I had forgotten. Snow on the ground, gray skies, and windy freezing cold weather. I went to visit my mother-in-law for her birthday. I’m lucky to have a great mother-in-law. I know not everyone likes theirs, but I love mine! We had a great time shopping, eating out, enjoying coffee, and watching movies. If you’re ever near Clinton, Iowa, try 392 Caffe on Second Avenue. Awesome coffee and hot chocolate. (So good that we went two days in a row.) 392 is the temperature at which coffee beans start to roast.

IowaFrom there, I headed to Cedar Falls to visit my forever friends, Steve and Janice for a couple of days. All of you Spring Flingers know Janice and her daughter Kirstin (the cake ball maker), so I had them pose with Kirstin’s husband Alex so I could share it with you! Kirstin got married the weekend of our last Spring Fling (last April) and she and her hubby are expecting baby #1 this March. I made the baby hat and booties for her that I shared on last week’s blog. (Thanks for all of your sweater suggestions – so helpful!) Janice plans to be back for the Fall Fling this year, and I know you all will be glad to have her there again. I will, too!

Back to the cold – when I left the Des Moines airport yesterday, it was freezing and so windy. I was glad to be back to Denver, where it was a balmy 31. And happy to see my hubby, who held down the fort at home while I was gone.

photoIn my knitting bag: I’m test knitting an upcoming Giftables pattern, have socks to finish, need to get back to my Funky Grandpa sweater, and am ready to cast on something with The Verdant Gryphon’s Bugga. I haven’t decided on the pattern yet.

On my sewing table: Reds, teals and chocolates in Fat Quarters and one yard pieces, waiting to become a coffee cup wall hanging.

What does your knitting bag or sewing table look like? Leave a comment below and one of you will win this cute “Taste of Wollmeise” bag that I brought home from Germany with me last fall! Aren’t the mini skeins adorable? (This is not something we can get to sell here, but you can buy these from Claudia’s website in Germany.) Each little skein is 30 gr. and there are 12 skeins in the zippered pouch. I’ll be sending it off to one of you next week!

  1. My knitting bag has the project of the moment plus every possible tool and device any knitter could possibly want at her/his disposal at any given moment. Pretty well organized at that! πŸ˜‰

  2. My knitting bag has my second Classic EliteChalet wrap in it and a cat! I have a cat with an alpaca addiction. He frequently burrow in and is hard to get out. Gotta love a kitty with good taste!

  3. My knitting bag has several scarves, two baby blankets and a hat! My sewing table has pieces in shades of green cut out for a table runner plus stacks of other pretty quilting fabrics that I am mulling over! Knitters, crafters, quilters, crocheters and sewists rule!

  4. My knitting bag currently holds a pair of socks I’m knitting for my daughter. They’re almost finished and she can’t wait to get them on her feet!

  5. My Knitting Bag contains a pair of socks and a very lengthy cowl along with my can’t do without it notions bag.

  6. My knitting bag is full of too many projects because I caught a little startitis earlier this month. I am trying to finish my December 2013 socks; so, I can maybe finish the January 2014 socks before the end of the month. February is just around the corner. That means…more socks!!!

  7. My current knitting bag contains my sweater project. I have many bags and many WIP. My knitting table is covered with stuff. Not sure what color that table is anymore πŸ™‚

  8. In my knitting bag, I have two pairs of socks in the works, one baby blanket, one scarf, and one toy hippo. Lots of options!

  9. It depends on which of a too numerous to mention collection of knitting bags we look into. A few cardigans for me, several…ok more than several beautiful shawls in progress, socks for mom always ongoing because she likes them so much, and a bunch of cute little baby things for an expected in April grandbaby and little girl garments for the soon to be big sister. πŸ™‚

  10. I actually have a Big Bucket o’ WIPs next to my arm chair – I dip into it and soemtimes just grab randomly and sometimes have to choose depending on what is going on around me. For example, when I am supervising my kids I might be doing just plan stocking stitch, and if it’s quiet I can concentrate more on cables and lace. Currently I have about 5 pairs of socks of various complexity; a simple scarf and 4 shawls; and 3 cardigans – one simple, one less so and one fairly complex. I also occasionally have yarn just to pet, while it waits to become a project!

  11. My knitting bag has a pair of mittens that I am working on and a couple of unfinished projects that have been put on the back burner.

  12. Knitting bag(s) seem to proliferate like rabbit(s)! πŸ™‚ So, I’ve got the following in their own bags: socks, fingerless gloves, shawl, cowl, afghan, Xmas ornament ideas, slippers and another blanket. Go me!

  13. My sewing table currently has a weaving loom on it, so I’m not getting much sewing done. But I have several knitting projects on the go – my favourite is a red wooly sweater, since I need a bit of colour this time of year!

  14. Mmm… what’s not in my bag right now… Hmmm… So I’ve got 2 grams of black icelandic wool that I’m spinning into hat yarn, silk tussa hand-spun which I’m not sure what I’ll knit into yet. Some silkpaca (I think it’s the sunset color) from Loopy’s, which I’m knitting into a lace scarf, and a skein of blue Frog alpaca. I’ve been gravitating to the super warm wools lately because it’s -6 here in Indiana.

  15. Was the question knitting bag or bag(S)? Of the four bags near me, I have; my first sock (yay, me!) and the first few rows of the 2nd, a dk weight coat of my own design, a nearly finished jumper for a fellow ravelry pal (hello 2nd sleeve!) a gorgeous crescent shawl, a cabled hat in need of a giant pom pom, several swatches for a test knit and a wrap I am taking to a friends house who is a minimalist for blocking. We’ll leave out what is in the three knitting bags in the car.

  16. My knitting bags contain various partially completed projects including, but not limited to:1 and 1/2 pairs of socks, a sweater, mittens and a hat…

  17. I have 3 knitting bags, one is a sweater for my girlfriends 40th birthday,
one a shawl with celtic cables, and the is cardigan for myself I have
a lot of knitting to keep me warm and busy with this cold weather.

  18. My sewing table is covered with a wall quilt, one block wonder, waiting patiently for binding. My knitting bag has the Ysolda KAL, Clue 1b2a!

  19. In my knitting bags are a hat and scarf that were to be matching but I didn’t order enough yarn – stripes may resolve that issue. Also, a baby blanket I am making for the birth of my granddaughter who will be 3 next week, a cowl for her mother’s birthday – last March and a lace shawl that needs about 5 more rows knit on it to be finished.

If the pattern Suze (post at 8:22) is looking for is the Wendy Johnson KAL from May of 2011, I have that pattern (all 4 parts) but I don’t know how to get in touch.

  20. Knitting bag- Cowl, the pattern is called Sublimity. I am using Peace Fleece in a blue black with hematite colored beads.
Sewing Table-reuseable sandwich wraps, a carpetbag and a dragon. You know how it is

  21. In knitting the Follow Your Arrow MKAL, and a Multnomah. The bag itself is a little ripped, which I need to remedy very soon, and I’ve just switched to a travel box for all the notions, snips, etc.

  22. My knitting bag has a pair of stripey socks as well as 3 (!!) sweaters or cardigans that need some percentage of sleeves finished, that’s it. Would be great if I actually *finished* them at some point…

  23. my DH came in the family room tonight, looked at the sofa, and asked where he could sit down. It was covered with WIP’s and new projects in bags. There are 4 cardi’s and 2 stoles plus patterns for each one. Only my sock project bag is empty since two new pairs of socks wait to be blocked. We pushed the bags over and onto the floor so he could watch TV with me. My sewing table is equally piled.

  24. I am sad to say that I have a granny square afghan that has been in the works for about a year. The squares are finished and about a third of them have been stitched together. That is the stinky part of doing a granny square afghan. I also have a pair of fingerless mitts on the needles to finish. The best part of what’s in my bag is another bag of madelinetosh that our 1 year old Spinone pup stole off of the table and played with in the backyard from one end of the yard to the other. I need to un-tangle it & wind into a ball so that I can knit up a scarf for my best friend who bought the yarn for me to knit into a scarf for her. Then there is my stash & list of projects to do that wouldn’t all fit in my knitting bag! Hope you have thawed out!

  25. I’m working on a Bark shawl and also have a Sockhead hat on the needles. I’m not mentioning the many, many UFOs lurking in numerous knitting bags in my craft room….

  26. I just finished the sleeves on my August Camp Loopy cardigan! It awaits blocking and an i-cord trim. As long as I have it in time for spring, I’ll be happy. I have my material mixer project, some socks to start, and I’m swatching for a vest for my hubby. Those are my most active projects. I also have some stragglers.

  27. My bag is full of mysteries! I’m working on clue #2 of Through the Loops mystery sock KAL. And finished up clue #2 of Follow your Arrow mystery shawl. And not such a mystery is my Measure in Love hat.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  28. I have about 8 knitting projects in different bags on my knitting table in including Polar Opposites which is my challenge project. My sewing table has scraps from the top I finished a couple of weeks ago and my tool holder. I’m planning on cleaning it all up so I can see tomorrow.

  29. My knitting room table currently has a swift and ball winder on it…the newest addition to my knitting addiction! Santa brought these to me and, fortunately, the novelty of winding my own yarn hasn’t warn off yet! The table must be clear in order to wind, so it’s forced me to reorganize my yarn storage…which used to be the table top. At this moment there are also two freshly wound balls of yak yarn on the table…waiting for their destiny to be decided.

  30. My knitting bag has a pair of armwarmers in progress, and the yarn to finish them, plus half of a cotton washcloth in my favorite washcloth pattern (from Abby Franquemont’s “Respect the Spindle”), and my notions bag.

  31. My knitting bag is fairly organized with one sweater, one shawl and several socks to knit at one time. My knitting table is a mess. It has swatches testing out some patterns I am interested in, a pile of patterns printed, my iPad, colored pencils, a sketch pad (its my creative area and I feel if it were too organized it would ruin my creativity). Don’t know what that all says about me but that is the truth.

  32. My knitting bag is full of proactive knitting for Christmas gifts next year. I love making all the loved ones lots of home made goodies.

  33. I’m knitting a new edge for the cot blanket my mother made 40 years ago for my son. It has been well loved and will now be passed down, refreshed, to my grandson.

  34. It is a record I only have 3 UFO’s now. My next project that I will start in a few days, is a ‘Ho-Ho Hat’ for my sis. When she was 4 years old she had a red knit Santa-style hat that she called her ‘Ho-Ho Hat’ , she wore it all year round until she lost it. She still misses this hat so I am going to try to make this hat from memory. I miss her so much because she moved overseas. Maybe this will bring her a touch of home, and let her know how much I miss her and love her.

  35. My knitting bag right now is stuffed with leftover yarn from five hats I’ve knitted so far this year, plus yarn for a couple more hats and a cowl, and two shawls in progress.

  36. My knitting bag has a just started fingerless mitt, a caked skein of Wollmeise DK in Taube and 2 swatches to be washed in preparation for a Calligraphy Cardigan, a pair of Dragonfly Fibers Dragonsock Socks for my boyfriend that just need ends woven in, and a hat for a friend that needs to have one end woven in and to be blocked. Oh, and I just took out my Monomania cardigan, which needs one more sleeve to be sewn on and a bunch of ends to be woven in. Can you tell I don’t like finishing?

  37. My knitting bag is currently full, with a Calligraphy cardigan on the needles, a pair of stripy socks whizzing along on my “sock rocket’s”, and a wrap by Jared flood. I also have my notions pouch and odds and ends of wool.

  38. I have the latest unanimity book and several skeins of fingering wool to make the vivid blanket for my new baby. And needles and notions.

  39. My Knitting bag has skeins of yarn I’m using to make a Hue Shift Afghan! Working on it steadily with reruns of The Golden Girls and water. Even FLORIDA is cold!

  40. My knitting bag is filled with cowls – my current passion! Just finished the Adiri cowl and getting ready to do some double knitting on the Dots Cowl by Hilary Smith Callis

  41. My bag has two pairs of fingerless mitts and all the other things were gifted to others , and colourful yarn πŸ˜‰
Working on a baby toy block , looking forward to make a hand bag .
