I’m back from several days in Iowa, where it is COLD COLD COLD. I grew up in Iowa. I should know how cold it is there. But apparently, I had forgotten. Snow on the ground, gray skies, and windy freezing cold weather. I went to visit my mother-in-law for her birthday. I’m lucky to have a great mother-in-law. I know not everyone likes theirs, but I love mine! We had a great time shopping, eating out, enjoying coffee, and watching movies. If you’re ever near Clinton, Iowa, try 392 Caffe on Second Avenue. Awesome coffee and hot chocolate. (So good that we went two days in a row.) 392 is the temperature at which coffee beans start to roast.
From there, I headed to Cedar Falls to visit my forever friends, Steve and Janice for a couple of days. All of you Spring Flingers know Janice and her daughter Kirstin (the cake ball maker), so I had them pose with Kirstin’s husband Alex so I could share it with you! Kirstin got married the weekend of our last Spring Fling (last April) and she and her hubby are expecting baby #1 this March. I made the baby hat and booties for her that I shared on last week’s blog. (Thanks for all of your sweater suggestions – so helpful!) Janice plans to be back for the Fall Fling this year, and I know you all will be glad to have her there again. I will, too!
Back to the cold – when I left the Des Moines airport yesterday, it was freezing and so windy. I was glad to be back to Denver, where it was a balmy 31. And happy to see my hubby, who held down the fort at home while I was gone.
In my knitting bag: I’m test knitting an upcoming Giftables pattern, have socks to finish, need to get back to my Funky Grandpa sweater, and am ready to cast on something with The Verdant Gryphon’s Bugga. I haven’t decided on the pattern yet.
On my sewing table: Reds, teals and chocolates in Fat Quarters and one yard pieces, waiting to become a coffee cup wall hanging.
What does your knitting bag or sewing table look like? Leave a comment below and one of you will win this cute “Taste of Wollmeise” bag that I brought home from Germany with me last fall! Aren’t the mini skeins adorable? (This is not something we can get to sell here, but you can buy these from Claudia’s website in Germany.) Each little skein is 30 gr. and there are 12 skeins in the zippered pouch. I’ll be sending it off to one of you next week!

My bag has two pairs of fingerless mitts and all the other things were gifted to others , and colourful yarn π
Working on a baby toy block , looking forward to make a hand bag .
Thank you so much for the chance :))
My knitting bag I’d spread throughout my house. My active projects include a Himilaya shawl I’ve been poking away at for years, a Ridgley I that us nearly done and a Follow your Arrow in Finito that I bought from you! Someone said it was as soft as a kitten’s butt. Greetings from Iowa where we are expecting blizzard conditions on Sunday and a high of -15 on Tuesday. Ugh. This winter has been harsh.
My knitting bag has a HIP (hat in progress) , a baby cardi in progress, a Multnomah, and a pair of socks. My sewing table is covered in fabric for project bags for my Etsy shop. I’m not sure what all is in knitting bag number 2, I’m almost afraid to check it out!
My bag is full of UFOs because I am at a knitting Guild UFO 3 day retreat in cold WI. I finished a shawl today and boot toppers, as well as turned a heel on the second sock of a pair. I have a sweater for Saturday to finish and if I get it done, a shawl for Sunday. I think I chose the right number of UFOs for three days!
My knitting bags have to double as diaper bags. They are a mishmash of yarn, needles, notions and mom stuff like diapers and wipes, snacks for the kids, etc. Thank goodness they’re big!!
my bag is full of all my unfinished projects from last year several sets of hats mittens scarfs for charity and a shawl and a baby blanket started by my niece I am helping her with can not wait till bag is empty so I can fill it up with all new projects
My husband had my sewing table made for me years ago–a big white Formica top, trimmed in cool wood, with shiny red metal saw horse legs. I used to quilt a lot, but now the table supports many bins of yarn for future projects, plus Sally Melville’s instructions and my measurements for how to fit your knits!
Well, I’ll give you a taste (your head might explode if I describe EVERYTHING lol). I received a couple of thirty-one bags for Christmas – the huge, open totes with the frame in the top. One holds all my acrylic and squares for my crochet mood blanket (if you crocheted you would definitely be doing this). The other holds the three Romi HIll WIPs I’m planning on working on during the Olympics. I completely reserve the right to change my mind about those, btw. π I also have a few individual bags laying around with my current WIPs in them. Imho, you are very brave asking for such descriptions. I hope your server can handle it. lol
My works-in- progress include one sock and one cowl in my bag. I also have a few leftover balls of yarn that may join another project.
My knitting bag has a bunch of socks in it.
My knitting bag has one charcoal gray Owlings fingerless mitt; a Baktus scarf which is bound off but needs a weak spot in the yarn near the cast-on fixed before it is gifted; and an oversized Multnomah shawl that I need to decide whether to keep going on or tink it back to regular size.
it’s been so long that I’ve commented or kept in touch. I’m glad you sent out a blog message.
It was good to see the picture of Janice and her daughter! I’ve been “lost” in lala land of science…teaching chemistry and all things sciencey to wonderfully nerdy high schoolers.
BUT I’m still knitting! and I have tons of things on the needles, but I mostly want to finish this:http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-cowl-version-b
i picked a grey alpaca and a multicolored wool….going good so far using both hands. My MS got worse, and it’s affecting one of my hands, so I force it to do stuff.
Yah yah…we are FROZEN here in Michigan…and I know it’s so warmer there in CO..my hubby doesn’t understand how. I told him it used to be the same in the mountains of Idaho…he just doesn’t remember.
I finally started getting REQUESTS to knit something..that’s the berries!!…all kids asked for hats (once one of them had one, they all wanted)….nice hats, designed for them….WOOL!
enuf rambling….
I am currently working out of 3 Zip-lock Big Bags (that’s what I use to keep projects in until finished). I am on clue #3 of a 5 part mystery shawl on Ravelry–we had to choose 10 different colors!! THAT was a real test in itself (I finally chose only 9 (all Madelinetosh Merino Light), using the same color for 2 sections. That’s the contents of one of my bags. Another one contains an almost finished hat (out of Shepherd’s Wool) and the yarn (Cascade 220 Superwash) for 2 more hats–Christmas presents for 2014 since 2013 is long gone. The 3rd has the yarn all caked (Madelinetosh Vintage) for a sweater for me for my 50th college reunion–the deadline for finishing is September 1st. I had better get working if I expect to fit that wonderful βTaste of Wollmeiseβ bag into my plans, should I be so lucky to win π . If not, I will be content to keep getting more great yarn from my local yarn shop–The Loopy Ewe.
Sock yarn, on top of sock yarn. I was in the middle of a pair of socks when a co-worked asked if
I would make mini hearts to be given out. So started that last night.
Seven projects half completed……this is the year for finishing or frogging……
My knitting bag is a nightmare from the Christmas crazies. But the wind-chill this weekend is to be -20 to -30 degrees F. I think this weekend is suitable for the hot chocolate that you suggested and some housekeeping!
My knitting bag (actually a basket) is filled to the rim with 5 WIP’s that I’m trying to wrap up before the end of the month. It also has a small kit inside of it which holds stitch markers, a loopy ewe measuring tape (thanks for that!), hand moisturizer, a small nail file, and a tiny crochet hook for picking up dropped stitches.
Mine includes a MKAL project, and a cowl I started to get me through the days until the next clue is releases
My knitting bag is full with the new Lisa Nelkin Mystery shawl that’s on Ravelry and a bunch of ruffle scarfs that I’m making for my friends and family in a lot of different yarn colors and types. Too many projects and so little time …. But what else is new!
Knitting the beautiful cowl on the latest issue of Vogue!
My knitting bag if overfilled with my wip socks, three different scarves and a tools box with stitch markers, scissors, tape measure and crochet hooks.
My Knitting bag has at least 4 projects. I am continually changing what I work on…. I am working on Fiddlehead using Madelinetosh, Mirian cardi with some submlime yarn, song of the sea , Audrey mitts and Featherweight Cardi. My January goal is to finish 2 in progresss ….Love to knit
currently knitting a pair of socks for my DH (who has enormous feet, i mean really really big) using Opal Fairy & Elves in the dark grey. Yea I know, knitting grey in January. If I could only get him to wear BRITES!!! π
My little blue Loopy Ewe knitting bag is currently holding a pair of mystery mittens that I’m knitting with the I Make Mittens group on Rav. It has a handy pocket which holds my scissors (received as a gift from TLE) as well as dozens of stitchmarkers! Love the colours in the Wollmeise bag.
My knitting bag has exploded across my entire house (and my office!) I have a mitten that I’m working on at the office, and 6 different lace projects that I’m working on at home. I’m rarely without knitting close to hand, and I like it!
My knitting bag has a very neutral brown cardigan – still in the ribbing stage – a pair (or two of socks), a scarf, and a pair of glittery mitts. Sadly there’s another knitting bag that has two UFO’s sitting in it – both sweaters. I think I might be doing some WIP Dancing at this year’s Ravellenic games.
On my knitting table there are a pair of socks (for me), and in my knitting bowl, a half finished dishcloth. I wish I had more time to knit.
My knitting bag has the knit kit and my current project – a pair of socks for my mum.
In my knitting bag are 11 more skeins of Plymouth Baby Alpaca Tweed Chunky and half of a checkerboard blanket being knit for my adult son. He requested something warm and soft to deal with the polar vortex situation in Chicago.
My knitting bag includes: a quick shawl for an aunt ho is rehabbing after a hip replacement, sock #1 of a pair I hope will be for me and two UFO’s that are verrrrrry close to FO status!
I have a black basic cardigan that I’m trying to get the sleeve stitches off a piece of yarn which is proving challenging. Shouldn’t have used black! Then there are a couple of half finished pieces. I just got new yarn from Zellinger Wool in Frankenmuth MI to make a WARM cardi! Not sure of the type I’ll make but that alpaca wool blend will be WARM!
My knitting bag has a shawl project that I’m finally getting to after finally finishing numerous baby hats and cardis. My sewing table has an apron ready to be started and an arts and crafts table runner ready to be hand embroidered.
My knitting bag at the moment is a cute ladybug pattern that a local woman made. It has a “beanbag” weight at the top so it can hang off a table or dashboard or other surface – genius design! It in is a cardigan I’m designing in the Pantone color of the year Wild Orchid. I’d love to try that Wollmeisse!
I have several knitting bags for my various projects that are in the works and there are many but I do have one along side my chair and that is where I keep my main project of the moment. Right now its the Laura Nelkin KAL. I also keep a container of my tools in that bag so everything is handy.
My knitting bags hold a sock, a squid, a shawl,a child’s sweater and cakes of yarn for a ravellenic sweater at which point all other bags will be put on hold!
Thank you! Johnston4kids on rav
My knitting bag currently holds the beginning of a Clapotis. I have resisted knitting one for almost 10 years, but yesterday it hit me that this wildly variegated yarn wanted to be a Clapotis. My sewing table has two stacks: mending/repairs and fat quarters to be made into project bags. I will let you guess which pike I reach for first! π
My multiple bags have many projects. I finished knitting legwarmers for my 2 yr old grandaughter and am now making them for her mom. I am also knitting a starfish dishcloth using short rows (really cute). I have a knitted purse that needs a lining and straps, as well. Something to look forward to every day!
Up until last weekend my knitting table was the end table next to my side of the couch, and it held a Tom Bihn bowl filled with knitting accessories, a clock, a pair of scissors, a stylus for my iPad, my phone, and a coaster for a cup of coffee. However, last weekend my kitty Loki decided that it should hold only him and he claimed the table. I had to move everything off, helter skelter. So now I have a beautiful big purring kitty on my knitting table and I can’t reach any of my knitting stuff!
Just one of my knitting bags contains two projects: a Multnomah shawl of JulieSpins in Glimmer, Tuscany colorway, and a Prism scarf in Schoppel Wolle, Zauberball Starke 6, Color 2170. My knitting bag is my new Blue Q tote with a zipper top that I just LOVE!! Another knitting bag holds a half-finished Harmonia’s Rings cowl in some variegated stash yarn on my beloved Dreamz circular needles. Don’t know what I would do without The Loopy Ewe to take care of my knitting addiction!
Amazingly, my knitting bag is all organized. I just completed Chocolate Stout for my daughter and put everything in it’s place in preparation for the next project. Now, my sewing area is another thing! Until recently, my quilting has taken a back seat to knitting. Now that the CS is finished, I’m neck deep in Kaffe Fassett fabric trying to finish up a UFO. My sewing area looks like someone came in and ransacked it. Who am I kidding? It was me! Hilde on Rav
Currently my knitting bag had two pairs of socks, a hat and a shawl for my mom. I constantly change what I want to work on! Also in my bag is my Stitch markers, tape measure, stitch saver and puppy snips!
Which knitting bag should I tell you about- the closest one to me has 2 hats in progress, a matching cowl for one of the hats, several skeins of Malabrigo Rasta for a shawl for my only niece Emma. It also has everything I could possible need to knit with-guage, chibi, scissors, stitch markers etc. Too bad I can’t stuff a bottle of wine in there too!!!!
Bag? Make that bags, lots of them of all types: knitting, sewing, embroidery. You name it. In the knitting bags there’s everything from a sweater, mitts, socks, baby items, dish cloths…..all patiently waiting their turn.
My knitting bag has a pair of socks, a pair of wristers, a pair of mitts, and a shawl. At this time, there is nothing on my sewing table but dust.
In my knitting bags: a cardigan that needs to be seamed, a pullover-in-progress, and a pair of mittens.
My knitting bag has a bunch of UFOs while I’m trying to finish gloves for my husband.
My main knitting bag has a hat and a recently cast-on sock in it. Then there is the knitting bag with the lingering WIPs; I’ve got to get back to that knitting bag soon!
I have many knitting bags but my most active has my Follow Your Arrow KAL in it. Knit with Madtosh light I got on my trip to Loopy Ewe for the Spring Fling!
Knitting “bag” singular? I have bags with projects all over: in my purse, on the exercise bike, by the yarn, hanging from doorknobs, on the couch… I do have one bag that I take to stitch and bitch, so it has my knit kit (pouch with tools etc) and then I put it whatever project I’m working on. Yesterday it was catnip mice, today it’s a baby hat. Tomorrow it could be a scarf or a shawl or who knows?
My knitting bag is a bundle of extras! I hate to waste stash storage space, so every time I finish a pair of socks, the leftover balls just stay in my knitting bag. My SOCK knitting bag, that is! Every so often, I dig out the leftovers to make a pair of baby socks. But, for now, the leftovers keep company with the socks in progress. . . . . . Let’s not discuss which other knitting bags or how many there might be . . . . . .
