Living in Colorado (and a Contest!)

It seems like at least once a week, someone will ask me how we like living in Colorado. As many of you might remember, we lived in St. Louis for a long time (27 years) and moved to Colorado just over two years ago. Why? Because we had vacationed in Colorado forever and decided that instead of spending 2 wonderful weeks a year out here, we should be spending all of the year out here! So we up and moved our household and The Loopy Ewe, and landed in Fort Collins. We love living here. I drive home from work, looking at the mountains, and being so grateful that we get to live here. Fall is just one of the many reasons we love it here. Aren’t the colors gorgeous? (Photos by my husband the photographer. Click to make bigger! One of the many reasons he likes it out here? Great subject matter for his photography business and a great art gallery in Fort Collins Old Town that sells his photos!)

  1. What beautiful photos!! I’ve only traveled TROUGH the state of Colorado and never had the fortune of staying for very long. I have lived in many areas of the USA, but seem to always return to my home state of Michigan … A beautiful place to be.

  2. We live in Michigan which can be heaven on earth in the Fall and we’ve been having the most glorious weather this Fall. We’ve vacationed in the West and my favorite dream place would be the mountains of Arizona.

  3. My daughter lives in Fort Collins and we love it there. If job requirements could be met, we would be there in a heartbeat!

  4. Ohio is home for us. Colorado is our first choice, however, life sometimes makes first choice not the right choice, as it has for us. Ohio it is. We, too, have beautiful autumnal foliage and mountains. But, as my husband is quick to point out, the are not “real” mountains. So, I will vicariously enjoy Colorado thru your eyes. This means you have to love it twice as much. Once for you and once for me. Thank you for your extra effort. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I live in a suburb of Chicago. I am most content here, but it’s not so much the PLACE I’m living, but more the PEOPLE! I have lived elsewhere, but I miss my family and friends too much to stay away from them. Home is where the Heart is ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I try really hard to make where I am my favorite place. So, yes, I’m living in my favorite place for now. But there is a place we love to vacation, and every time we go, the birds, the waves, the turtles, the whales and the fish all start murmuring to me that I belong in Hawaii. Maybe one day. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. PA looks remarkably like the photos you posted. The thing I love best is that you can “chase” the seasonal changes from the northern tier of the state to the southwestern tier (where I am at the moment). I love the summer and fall seasons the best here. I love the ocean, but we can get there within about 8 hours. Pretty easy access to anywhere from here.

  8. My favourite place is where I grew up — Victoria, BC. I’m on the other side of the country, and it’s nice too, but you know what they say — there’s no place like home….

  9. We are recent transplants from the southeast to Austin, TX, whch is exactly where I want to be right now! Austin is not exactly beautiful, like Colorado, since we’re in the desert. Austin does have the most beautiful sky – it’s HUGE and clearer than anyplace I’ve seen. When the weather guy says clear skies, he means NOT A CLOUD in the sky.

I too would like to know where Sher’s husband’s work is sold – we’ve finally moved into a our new place and I’m decorating

  10. Well, I grew up in Colorado and moved away when I was 13 and it was my mission in life to get back! It took a long time, but I made it back in 2000 and I am not leaving!

  11. I live in eastern WA state and <3 it so much! We are backed up to the Cascade mountains and have 4 seasons with fall color, winter snow, spring rains, and summer sun. I have lived in a number of other places and wouldn't have it any other way.

  12. OMG! Breathtaking photos!
I grew up on the south side of Chicago. Beautiful it was NOT. I’ve lived many places, but the one that has stolen my heart WAS Colorado. I was able to visit last year on my birthday (yes, I even came to the Loopy Ewe) and we toured from Ft. Collins through Boulder into Denver – visited friends in Elizabeth and finally made it to Colorado Springs. I still wear the aspen leaf (in silver) I bought at Manitou Springs in a gift shop (I never take it off). The added bonus of Colorado? After suffering with allergies for YEARS and YEARS, I could finally BREATHE! We were at 14,000 ft in elevation and I’m running around like a 2 year old while my husband was struggling to breathe due to the thin air BUT I was finally able to breathe!
Beautiful part of the country and beautiful, friendly people. I cannot wait to go back.

  13. I grew up in West Virginia and don’t think anyplace is prettier. I’m now closer to Pittsburgh and wonder why I moved. I also loved the time I’ve spent in Colorado.

  14. We live in New England. Connecticut. Believe it or not it is very different than living in Southern New Hampshire where I grew up. New England is beautiful but oh to live somewhere where it is colder for more of the year. Alaska? Colorado? My SIL tells me MN….;)

  15. I live in North Dakota, and I am truly living where I want to be! I can “go” anywhere I want, and we do travel, so I love coming home to the wide open prairie!

  16. Beautiful pictures! No I do not live in my favorite place, it I had my choice I would live in Palm Springs area to be near my family. I love the mountains and the weather, except for the summers (too hot!). But I need to work, so I’ll be staying put for now.

  17. I don’t live in my favorite place (Iowa) but I live near my favorite people (kids and grandkids) so it works for now. ๐Ÿ™‚ My dream would be to live in Colorado someday…..

  18. I’ve lived in Florida all my life and can’t think of any other place I would love more! Other places are nice to visit, but glad I live where I do!

  19. My Dad worked for aircraft companies and I married a guy in the Navy so I have lived all over the US and in Japan, Iceland and Spain. We moved to South Central Idaho in 2010 after living for 26 years on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. I’m loving living in Idaho. It’s a slower pace of life, the people are friendly and the traffic is much less. The one thing that would be nice to have is a local yarn store. However, I have discovered the Loopy Ewe and they are only a click away on the internet. Your husband takes great photographs. Should I be lucky enough to win I’ll hang it nest to my Diane Phalen Watercolor Print.

  20. I fully intend to move to Colorado when I retire. That has been my plan for a number of years. BUT if I won the Lottery I would love to live in the Dordogne region of France for spring and summer – and then Colorado for Fall and Winter.

  21. I am a coastal person who is living in the south right now. I would like to live on Cape Cod close enough to go visit the ocean every day for a walk along the beach or to watch the waves break and boil against the shore! I love the mountains and have driven across the US. I loved Colorado when I visitied there on one road trip.

  22. I would live in East Hampton, NY where 12 generations of Bennetts have been born and buried there. Now I don’t have the money to live in EH but I still would choose this place because of the connection I feel to “home.” I love the fall color and especially the sound of the waves on the beach. Great knitting location. Anyway, I was just saying this morning how I wondered about the aspens in CO. Beautiful pics…I can hear the leaves rustle.

  23. Telluride is the best place I have ever been. Fort Collins is an awesome town. When my son graduates from CSU in May, he plans to stay in CO, and I hope it works for him.
However, now is a great time to live in St. Louis, we are Cardinals crazy!

  24. Well those Aspen trunks remind me of where Id rather be, northern New Hampshire! But Colorado works for now. Very nice photos, so pretty. Thanks for the chance!

  25. Love the rapidly evolving colors of BOTH spring and autumn. I love our silver, sugar and red maples at this time of year! I wish I could attach a photo–you’d be commissioning a new yarn color way!

  26. I lived in NJ and couldn’t wait to leave. Moved to DE and like it so much better here. Would move out west in a minute if I could take my kids and grandkids with me.

  27. I currently live in Virginia, which is okay, but I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, most of my family and my husband’s family are there, and we really want to move there permanently as soon as we can! Plus I’d be closer to my daughter, who’s in Idaho, which is another plus. I miss living among mountains!

    And the photos are GORGEOUS.

  28. I live in Pullman, WA and love it. Colorado is gorgeous, though, but a little far from family. I’d love to win your husband’s photo. They’re all gorgeous. I’m also frustrated because my oldest went to CSU in Ft. Collins and graduated 3 years ago. Of course I hit the yarn shops in town whenever I was there but I would have loved to go to the Loopy Ewe, especially now that you’re adding quilting supplies!

  29. Hi~
I live in San Francisco! I have lived all over our beautiful country but I have to admit that California is the place for me! We have beautiful mountains, the Pacific Ocean, Redwood trees….Yes, California is the place for me!

  30. We live in Iowa and are also enjoying the beautiful fall color minus the backdrop of mountains! Vistited CO about 20 years ago and loved every minute of it. Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos.

  31. I love being outside everyday walking the dogs and enjoying the outdoors. I live in Wyoming and am very happy here. I always take way too many photos of the aspen changing colors. It is an addiction because each view is incredible. The photos are beautiful that your husband took. I will look for them next time we are in Old Towne.

  32. I live in Calgary, AB and we have also been seeing beautiful fall colors and warm temps to book! It’s gorgeous and as my husband said, “it’s the best season of the year here”.

  33. I live in Virginia fairly near the Blue Ridge Mountains and they are stunners all year along but never prettier than in the fall. I am 3 hours away from the ocean, 45 minutes from skiing(if I skied!), 3 hours to DC and 30 minutes to the Appalachian Trail. It doesn’t get better than that! However, we love to travel and fantasize about new places to live and I have to admit, your husband’s photographs make a very, strong case for Colorado! It really looks gorgeous.

  34. I live in my favorite place – Wyoming. At least it is my favorite in the spring, summer and fall. Three out of 4 isn’t bad!

  35. I’ve lived here all my life and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else! There is nothing more beautiful than our Aspen and mountains!

  36. I live within site of the Great Smoky Mountains in east TN. It is beautiful here as well, but if I had to move it would be to western North Carolina.

  37. I have lived my whole life in the Finger Lakes area of NYS. However, if I could I would live in Northern New Mexico. We spent 5 days there last Oct. and I fell in love. I guess I can dream.

  38. I grew up between VT and NH. (with short bits in NY and Quebec as well) till age 18. Then I still stayed in new england till my hubbys career took us to hawaii. I loved the islands but after 13 years we moved to the pacific north west. I love things about all the places we have lived, i think i am able to make every place a great place to live, it is the home that is not my dream. Our house is great but by no means our dream. ๐Ÿ™‚

  39. I live in Eugene, Oregon- it’s beautiful, and near the coast and the mountains. The only not-perfect thing is the Rain! 8+ months a year with constant rain and little sun makes everything green and beautiful, but I miss the sunshine so much. Growing up in western Kansas, (where there is plenty of sunshine) we visited the Rockies frequently. I love Colorado, especially your part of the state.

  40. I have lived on the East Coast and West Coast as well and would like to think that I could be happy anywhere. I grew up in CO and live in the little mountain town of Salida now with my family. There really isn’t anywhere else I’d rather live–the small town mountain life suits me. Although, I wouldn’t mind having a second home in Italy somewhere…

  41. I’m lucky enough to live just down the highway from the Loopy Ewe, in the beautiful state of Colorado. With the Rockies as our backdrop, this is truly my happy place.
