We’re Celebrating with a CONTEST!

This month we’re celebrating our Sixth Loopy Anniversary! We officially opened our virtual doors on August 1, 2006. We’ve shared a few of these photos before, but celebrations are all about pulling out the scrapbooks and fondly reminiscing, right? Here is a peek at our Loopy (virtual) scrapbook.

The shop started in a tiny corner of our basement, not much bigger than what you can see in this photo – about 90 sq. feet. This was our first group of in-store shoppers. This corner worked well for the first couple of months, and then someone (that might be me …) just kept ordering more yarn and we needed more space.

We decided “who needs a basement?” and expanded from the little corner, into the rest of the finished area that we had.

We had to stack boxes on our front porch and in our front hallway, waiting for the mailman each day. Some days, there were a lot of boxes!

After a year at home, we made the move to office/retail space a few blocks away, and that was our Loopy home for the next 4+ years. After our first year there, we doubled the space by knocking down the walls and taking the offices next door. That was fun, although it made for a bit of an interesting (weird) floor layout.

Last December, we put everything on two large moving trucks, and moved to our current location here in Fort Collins, CO, about an hour north of Denver.

With 4500 sq. ft. here, I’m hoping we will have enough room to put off any other moves for the time being. You all need to come visit so that you can walk in here and look around that corner. It goes down a long way, and every bit of it is filled with yarn! (Here’s a peek down one of our four long aisles.)

Of course none of this would be here without YOU and your incredible support. We love hearing from you, we love pulling and packing orders for you, and we love seeing what you have made when you finish your projects. So often, our yarn companies and indie artisans tell us, “You guys have the BEST customers!” and we totally agree. You are the best. We sure appreciate you.

In celebration of our six years, we will be doing a few different blog contests this month, in addition to a couple of other things. This week’s blog contest question is: How long have you been with us at The Loopy Ewe? I know we have six year Loopy veterans who ordered that very first week, and one day Loopy newbies, who discovered us today when they saw the sign on the building and popped up to see us, hoping “The Loopy Ewe” had something to do with yarn. Leave your answer in the comments below, and we’ll do a random drawing next week for some Wollmeise Lace, that I saved just for our anniversary contests. 🙂

  1. Hi Sherri,

I am a brand new knitter (been knitting since November 2011). My first order from the Loopy Ewe was for Camp Loopy 2012!. I love your store!!

  2. Happy Anniversary! I had to look and found that this month is my 5 year anniversary with you! Love Loopy Ewe and hope to someday visit in person!

  3. I was a customer in 2007 and 2008 and then put my knitting aside. Now I’ve rediscovered the hobby and I’m working through my sock yarn stash. I’d so love to buy some new yarn ’cause there are lots of lovely things available.

  4. I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now, but I’m a newbie to ordering (for a long time I never made online orders because I didn’t have a credit card).

  5. Hi everyone at the Loopy Ewe – you are an inspiration to everyone who at one point wanted to own their own business. It was a dream of mine, but I would rather be one of the knitters who make your dreams come true. I would rather teach knitting and send everyone to you to buy beautiful yarn. I am starting knitting classes in my basement – with cats and lots of yarn to practice/learn with, so I hope to send some new knitters your way. Good luck and many, many more years of success. Denise

  6. Hi Sheri,

I’ve been following your blog since just before you started your move to Fort Collins! I’ve visited Fort Collins (but it’s been quite a while) and it is a fabulous area. I could live there!! Anyway – love your blog, love your store and maybe one day I can actually get there to visit. I’ve just finished my first sweater – so excited! Now I just have to wait until it’s not 110 out so I can wear it. I live in Phoenix, so it will be a while yet.

Keep writing and I’ll keep reading – and shop one day. I would really love to do Camp Loopy next year.

  7. My first order was in November 2008. Had to look up the date in my account, but I remember the order, Alpaca with a Twist Fino, because TLE was the only place I could find it!

  8. My first order was about 5 or 6 months ago, after hearing about you on SEVERAL podcasts that I listen to! Would love to visit the store in person one day!

  9. I found the Loopy Ewe in the summer of 2008. I was recovering from a huge surgery and undergoing Chemotherapy. On pump days I would self medicate by ordering beautiful colored sock yarn. My favorites were Elf knoll farm, fleece artist and handmaiden.

  10. I think I started shopping with the Loopy Ewe almost 2 years ago. I was looking for a specific color in Dream in Color Smooshy and couldn’t believe all the color choices available! When I received my package, I felt like a special customer because there was a little gift and a special note addressed to me. I have been shopping with you all ever since! Happy Anniversary!!!

  11. April 2008! I’m waiting to spend my second FSB that is burning a cyber hole in my account balance!!

  12. Its almost my 3 year Loopiversary. I was hooked from the moment I found out about TLE! I think in my first few days I made THREE orders!!!

    LOVE TLE SO MUCH!!!

  13. Someone told me about your web site about a year ago. Then, this summer I decided to do Camp Loopy. I have never had so much fun! I’ve learned that I’m ready for knitting with the better quality yarns and that I can complete projects on time.

  14. I discovered TLE on their 3rd anniversary, 3 years ago. Only bought 1 item that year, but my rate of purchase increased dramatically in the subsequent two years. Even managed to score some wollmeise! Love the selection, the service, the fun activities that engage us as a community, and hanging out with the groupies on Ravelry.

Happy anniversary to Sheri and the elves! Keep up the great work and the fun you provide us all

  15. I’ve been shopping at Loopy Ewe for about 6 months now. I’ve only been knitting since last October but I’ve already managed to accumulate quite the stash! Thanks Sheri and all of the Loopy Elves for being such successful enablers 😉

  16. Hello all!

I’ve been with Loopy for about e years now, actually just a bit longer than that. I have loved every box I’ve ever received, even though I already know what’s in it. It’s more fun than opening a box with jewelry in it.

Best of luck for a long future!

    Meg

  17. I have been enjoying Loopy Ewe for a few years now–3, maybe 4. I have participated in the sock club! I live in Louisiana and probably have more wool socks than anybody!!!! I love knitting and the loopy site is ALWAYS on the my christmas list.

  18. I couldn’t remember and had to go look at my order history…4 years! Wow!

You guys are my favorite shop. Happy Anniversary! =D

  19. I first heard of loopy ewe when I used to listen to lime & violet the podcast. They would talk all the time about all the beauitful things they got and stalking updates. I just had to see what it was all about. Shortly after I became a loopy groupie, and I’ve always wondered what spring fling was like. Congrats and I wish you many more happy bisverseries!

  20. My first order was in June 2007! I ordered a shawl pin by Romi. I seem to remember hearing about your shop on podcasts and blogs, and when I went looking for this particular shawl pin, I stumbled across your site, and the rest is history! Thank you so much for introducing us to all these gorgeous yarns over the last six years! Happy Anniversary 🙂

  21. About a month after you opened in Fort Collins. I heard a rumor there was a new yarn shop in town and after some inquiry I scored and found you. I love how many hand dyed yarns you have and am always tempted by more than what I started out to get. A great addition to the area as well as finding you online!

  22. I had to look to check – it was 2008 when I first ordered and it was a Namaste Laguna bag which has since gone to handbag heaven due to all the love it received. And since I logged in to check when that order was, I was inspired to fill up my cart. 🙂 Happy anniversary!

  23. I first ordered from Loopy Ewe spring 2011, but had been “window shopping” the website & reading the blog long before that. Happy Anniversary!

  24. I’ve ordered several times over the past couple of years, and visited last summer when you were still in St. Louis.

  25. I placed my first order with The Loopy Ewe on June 3, 2008 and In July, 2008 I became a Loopy Groupie. I have been lucky enough to attend Spring Fling in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and was officially renamed Ricia by Sheri in 2009. You all will always be my favorite LYS no matter how far away from me you may be. I hope you keep celebrating Anniversaries for many years to come.

  26. I think I started buying yarn when you moved to the Ft. Collins location. Now I don’t know what took me so long. 🙂
