This month we’re celebrating our Sixth Loopy Anniversary! We officially opened our virtual doors on August 1, 2006. We’ve shared a few of these photos before, but celebrations are all about pulling out the scrapbooks and fondly reminiscing, right? Here is a peek at our Loopy (virtual) scrapbook.
The shop started in a tiny corner of our basement, not much bigger than what you can see in this photo – about 90 sq. feet. This was our first group of in-store shoppers. This corner worked well for the first couple of months, and then someone (that might be me …) just kept ordering more yarn and we needed more space.
We decided “who needs a basement?” and expanded from the little corner, into the rest of the finished area that we had.
We had to stack boxes on our front porch and in our front hallway, waiting for the mailman each day. Some days, there were a lot of boxes!
After a year at home, we made the move to office/retail space a few blocks away, and that was our Loopy home for the next 4+ years. After our first year there, we doubled the space by knocking down the walls and taking the offices next door. That was fun, although it made for a bit of an interesting (weird) floor layout.
Last December, we put everything on two large moving trucks, and moved to our current location here in Fort Collins, CO, about an hour north of Denver.
With 4500 sq. ft. here, I’m hoping we will have enough room to put off any other moves for the time being. You all need to come visit so that you can walk in here and look around that corner. It goes down a long way, and every bit of it is filled with yarn! (Here’s a peek down one of our four long aisles.)
Of course none of this would be here without YOU and your incredible support. We love hearing from you, we love pulling and packing orders for you, and we love seeing what you have made when you finish your projects. So often, our yarn companies and indie artisans tell us, “You guys have the BEST customers!” and we totally agree. You are the best. We sure appreciate you.
In celebration of our six years, we will be doing a few different blog contests this month, in addition to a couple of other things. This week’s blog contest question is: How long have you been with us at The Loopy Ewe? I know we have six year Loopy veterans who ordered that very first week, and one day Loopy newbies, who discovered us today when they saw the sign on the building and popped up to see us, hoping “The Loopy Ewe” had something to do with yarn. Leave your answer in the comments below, and we’ll do a random drawing next week for some Wollmeise Lace, that I saved just for our anniversary contests. 🙂

I think my first order was last year and contained some lovely Malabrigo.
In January 2008 I used a Credit that I ws given during a Christmas swap over on knittinghelp.com. It took me quite a while to decide what I wanted, but I finally settled on some Araucania Multi. Congrats, and THANKS!!!! 🙂
I am rather new to Loopy. I’ve only been a loopy Groupie for a month but have been ordering for about 6 months. I’m also a fairly new knitter. I picked up the needle habit about a year and a half ago. Congrats on your anniversary. May you have many successful years to come!
I think I’ve been shopping at Loopy for about 2 years now! First found them while looking for LYS in St. Louis, checked out the website, and was hooked! Unfortunately, I’ve been living in Chicago for the past 5+ years, so I never got to visit the actual Loopy store before they moved to Colorado… but I’m sure they’ll have plenty of happy new walk-ins there! Thanks Sheri and the Loopy Elves for always taking the time to carefully wrap my yarn so it survives shipping, and for shipping so hastily! You’re the greatest!
I honestly don’t remember my first order; but I’ve stepped up the ordering with Camp Loopy this year. I have enjoyed becoming a groupie; and the fact I have been able to keep up with the camp projects. Happy Anniversary! I hope there will be many more anniversaries.
PS I agree about the knitting and watching the Olympics…I often stop knitting to watch.
Hmmm… I guess I have been around all 6 years — not quite from the beginning, but pretty close. I know I have celebrated every anniversary. And may it be a happy 6th!

I can see that my first order was made in June 2007 but I think I followd you on the website a while before that. The tip came from Wendy @ Wendyknits. You absolutely saved my day when we moved moved to Malaysia.

Since 9 April 2007 – Wow five years and four months and sometimes I was ordering every weekly update it seemed. Sheri always wanted to hand carry the yarn to my door. What a nice thought. It was so nice to meet you at the first Sock Summit. Keep up the great work.
I found you a year or so ago from ravelry recommendations but got hooked with Camp Loopy this summer – its pushed me to try new things and improve my knitting speed… and of course, to buy lots and lots of new yarn from you (making a Loopy Groupie with my extra summer orders)

Can’t believe you all are just six yrs old! Every time I’ve ordered, the whole experience has been easy and friendly. I’ve even snagged a few skeins on the specials via Facebook. I had to go & check. My first orders were in November 2008, but I had admired the LE from afar long before that. As an undergrad, I had a ver strict yarn budget, so ordering from TLE was a little bit of luxury every now and then, a treat.
I began knitting March of 2011. Luckily you were one of the first websites I found to purchase yarn and everything else. Now I go to your website first for yarn and accessories. You gals are great. Excellent customer service and organization. Happy Anniversary!
