Still Loving Socks … and a CONTEST!

Thank you for all of your great book and movie suggestions in last week’s Anniversary contest! I have discovered the benefits of books on tape (or, I guess they call it audiobooks now. Books on tape is so yesterday…) I can walk or knit while listening to good books, and now I have a whole list of titles to explore. We used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from last week’s comments. We’re sending Sixth Anniversary Kits to Dianne in IN and Leah in MO. Congratulations to you two!

We have a new contest for you again today. (Do you like the weekly contests during our Anniversary Month? We do!) This week’s question is an easy one, I think. What item have you knit or crocheted the most? Socks? Shawls? Sweaters? Blankets? Scarves? Mittens and Gloves? Hats and Cowls? Leave the answer in the comments below and we’ll draw the winner next week. I have two skeins of Wollmeise Lace that we’ll be sending to two winners!

I went to Ravelry to see what the answer would be for me. I’ve missed photoing a few things, but most of what I have knit is on my Rav project page. The answer? Still overwhelmingly socks! Some 60 pairs of socks, about 25 shawls, 30 scarves, 15 gloves/mitts, 10 hats/cowls, a few blankets, a few sweaters, and a few felted bags from the early days. How about you? (You don’t have to give exact numbers – just tell me what you think you have knit the most!)

  1. I have definitely made more scarves! I don’t know whether I’ve knit or crocheted more to be honest. I whip up basic ones to sell in a local craft fair so I make lots of them!

  2. Scarves of rme. I would love to knit more socks – but they still overwhlem me. I’ll keep them on the back burner. I have several shawls I want to make and the Ishbel is one because of your posts about the ones you made.

  3. Hats – 47 hats so far and another on the needles right now. I don’t even wear hats!
Most are for charity and I try to make each one different and fun.

  4. Shawls, shawls and more shawls, with a hat, scarf, sweater, blanket, thrown in for good measure, and did I mention shawls?

  5. Comfort shawls would be the most and then give away hats and mittens and then warm-up america throws.Lace shawls are taking over now.

  6. blankets…just becasue of the large numbr of babies being born nearby. After that, scarves and hats, felted purses, shawls and socks! Lots of shawls and socks this year.

  7. Strangely it’s been small toys and accessories. The urge to entertain my 2 year old has been overwhelming. She DID get the first pair of socks I ever made.

  8. I knit a Lot of hats and scarves/shawls. Almost exclusively. Sweaters seem like such a big commitment, both time and money, and socks seem tedious to me. Plus, I like one size fits most sorts of things, since I have size 10 feet and a rather large bust.

  9. I believe I’ve knit more socks than anything else, but shawls are a close second. And the only thing that surpasses either of those would be that I’ve knit more designs by Anne Hanson than anything else!

  10. Shawls, most certainly, but dishcloths with the TARDIS design seem to run a close second, given all the Dr. Who fans in my family!

  11. Socks, for sure! At least 20 pairs a year for the last 9 years. Most of them are just ribbed “bread and butter” socks that I give away. A bit selfish perhaps – but the socks I knit from all those lovely patterns we have are for me – the socks I knit for “therapy” on long plane trips or waiting, I give away to anyone who’ll have them. Socks are my ‘meditation’. Salam wa sa’aadah

  12. Socks! If I put scarves and shawls into the same category, they ran a close second. Thanks for the reminder to update my project photos.

  13. Squares that can be used as dishcloths or washcloths – I use a whole skein of cheap cotton and it winds up too big for a washcloth but too small for a dishcloth. They are great ‘walking around’ knitting because I use seed stitch and I don’t have to look at it. I do so many that I usually don’t even put them on Ravelry anymore. I use them for random acts of kindness – “want a washcloth?” or put them with a bar of handmade soap and tie with a ribbon for a small gift.

  14. That’s actually a tough one. I love to knit socks, and I know I’ve done many. But, having 5 boys, the oldest 14, I know I’ve also made many hats and mittens. Probably more hats than mittens. And I can’t rely on Ravelry for accuracy as (gasp!) I was making things long before Ravelry came around. So, I’ll have to go with hats and / or socks as the things I’ve made the most of.

And I love the contests! Makes me make sure I stop in while the baby’s sleeping to read the blog post!

  15. I’ve definitely made more socks than anything. It’s my go to for buying random yarn and for when I need to cast on something new…

  16. I’ve probably knit over 400 sweaters in the 43 years I’ve been knitting. Now I’m into socks and shawls although I almost have a Swirl Sweater by Sandra McIver done.
That has been a real learning experience!

  17. Socks win. Knit with luxury yarns 😉 I am starting to have quite a few shawls in my FO pile, but since I don’t really wear them and I wear socks frequently… I’ll keep up the higher ratio of socks!

  18. I’m going to say that I’ve knit more socks than anything else, but shawls are a very close second I think…

  19. I know I’ve not photo-ed everything either, but I believe it would probably have to socks. My goodness you have knit alot of socks. Not sure I will ever come close to that.

  20. I’ve made more socks than anything else, unless I go back to my twenties, in which all I did was sweaters, but I think socks would still win. Shawls are beginning to catch up though. I have years of designs lined up, and probably not time to wear them all!
