Interweave Treasures

I continue to be a sucker for knitting magazines, and it always seems like I find the most knittable projects in Interweave magazines. Oh, there is beautiful eye candy in all of the different knitting magazines out there, for sure. But the projects I look at and think, “I might make that!” typically come from Interweave magazines.

Did you get a copy of their Holiday Gifts issue this fall? I want to knit up McHenry by Susan B. Anderson (a cute stuffed puppy pattern, as well as a puppy hat for kids option). Susan comes up with the greatest patterns for kids. I also like the Novel Sleeve by Kathy Zimmerman (perfect for your Kindle or Nook). But the pattern that I just had to start in on this week are the Ashbury Mitts by Simona Merchant-Dest, shown on the cover. It’s making me try my first go at bobbles. (They’re so easy. Sometimes I wonder why I think things are intimidating – cables, colorwork, bobbles – all were just fine, once I actually sat down and tried them.)

Another recent publication from Interweave was Jane Austen Knits. I’ve marked the Fiori Pullover sweater by Mary Annarella, the Lambton Top by Theressa Silver, and the Frederick & Anne scarf by Kirsti Johanson, as possible future projects. I was so anxious to see this issue that I bought it myself, even though I knew I’d be getting a copy in the mail for advertising in it. Since I now have 2 copies, I’m giving one away to a lucky blog reader today. Would you like it? Just leave a comment below and we’ll announce the winner on Monday’s blog. (I wish I had five copies to give away!) Do you have a favorite pattern that you’ve made from a knitting magazine?

In keeping with Gratitude Week here on the blog, we have winners from Wednesday’s blog. We are sending a beautiful skein of indie-dyed yarn to these five knitters: Eloise from OR, Suellen from PA, Beth from MD, Cynthia from NC, and Melissa from MI.

I took photos of the Colorado Loopy Shop Space-in-progress last week. I’ll share them on Monday’s blog. It’s sloooowly coming together ….

  1. I had an interweave magazine, I forget what year/season. But it was the River Cowl, that I loved, and when I looked at the magazine for the pattern, turns out it was a free online pattern. xD But I wouldn’t have seen it without the magazine featuring it. πŸ™‚

  2. I’ve been wanting to have a look at the Jane Austen mag. There’s a pattern in there I would love a closer look at.

  3. I buy lots of knitting magazines, but I make very few projects from them. Love Mary Annarella’s sweater-I made her Elphaba top.

  4. I also buy & subscribe to knitting magazines. Have never see Jane Austin though.
I really like the scarf on the cover. Thanks for a chance to win this magazine.

  5. I love Interweave Knits too! I used to buy Vogue Knitting because the patterns are pretty but I find them a bit too ‘haute’ for me…
I’ve knit Interweave Knits’ Bettie’s Lace Stockings (Spring 2009) and I loved it.

  6. I was going to order the Jane Austen mag, since I am a big fan of hers and I like the things in Interweave Knits in general.

  7. Thanksgiving dinner is great, but there’s nothing like a turkey sandwich with the leftovers! Hope you had a great holiday with your kids.

The Austen magazine looks lovely! I hadn’t seen that yet.

  8. My favorite knitting magazine is Knitters, been subscribing since the beginning. I’m not sure I have a favorite pattern, I mostly get lots of ideas looking at all the knitting eye candy.

  9. I have been curious about the Jane Austen magazine. Would love to win!
Also enjoying the leftover turkey, as sandwiches. The best!

  10. I went looking for the Interweave Gifts issue and could not find it, but I will check it out when I locate a copy. I have not thougth too much about the Jane Austen book but if I could win it that would be a whole ‘nother matter.

    Happy unpacking!

  11. I don’t have much time to knit, so I try not to be tempted by the pictures in the magazines. Although the Jane Austen knits has me really tempted. If I don’t win, maybe that will be a Christmas gift to me.

  12. Although I always look through knitting magazines, and even own a few,I get most of my projects from books or the internet.

  13. About twenty or more years ago, I made the infamous cat sweater from Vogue Knitting. I still have the sweater–and just running across it in my closet still brings a smile to my face

  14. Jane Austin Knits has some beautiful patterns in it! I have several IK patterns on the needles now and a whole bunch more in my queue – need to learn to knit faster!

  15. this mag looks great..ive never really made anything from a magazine before..i should though because my stack is ever growing.. πŸ™‚ i buy them for the articles..ha!

  16. The cover scarf on Jane Austen Knits looks like I would like to knit it–would you say that it is calling to me? I often knit from patterns in magazines–I have either earmarked or knit a bunch of sweaters in past Knitter’s and have knitted a sweater, a scarf, and some fun dinosaur mittens from Interweave Knits. I like the magazines because they inspire me to try new things (like your bobbles!) and they give me ideas for enhancements on my favorite patterns.

  17. There really is something about Interweave patterns…..!!! I’ve made a bunch of stuff from them over the years, but if I need a quick cute gift, I’ll often turn to the little mitered heart sachet they featured a few years back.
Really love that scarf on the cover of Jane Austen!!!

  18. A favorite, no, but I just returned to the 2009 interweave holiday knits to make a cute chulo hat for this winter (I dont know if it’s mine, or my daughters or my sons, since we’ve all decided that we really like it and it looks good). I knit at least one thing from every magazine I purchase, and if the magazines start becoming unusable, I just stop buying them (like XRX knitters).

  19. I made #17 Tapered Pullover from Vogue Early Fall 2011 (for Camp Loopy #3), which I love. Also, the Sunrise Circle Jacket, which I think I need to wear this week, with the weather cooling off!

  20. Magazine and book-a-holic here! I’ve also purchased the Holiday Mag. but only went as far as looking at the Jane A. one. It was very tempting but I picked the other one to come home with me. I saw the “Knitgirllls” show where they reviewed them and would love to win a copy.

  21. Jane Austen Knits would be a great surprise! I’m enjoying turkey sandwiches too, and Sunday is turkey soup. Leftovers are so much better than the big event!!

  22. I have a TON of magazines, love to look and dream! I think the last thing I made was a hat for my son. Don’t remember the name of the pattern or the magazine! Isn’t that terrible! I use mostly books or Ravelry patterns, both free and purchased. Thanks Sheri for the nice things you offer, even though I’ve never won!!

  23. Good morning! I have JUST finished the Georgiana shawl from Jane Austen knits, and that handsome Frederic Aran is up next. I’d love to hand on a copy of the magazine to my sister (and will do that, even if I don’t win your extra). I was surprised at how much I enjoyed that issue.

Couldn’t do without the Interweave Publications, including Spin Off. Along with Twist Collective, I always find something to knit.

Have a good finish to the holiday weekend, and I’ll see your blog on Monday. Hope the move is finishing up in good style.

  24. I have knit several things from Interweave and it always has something more in there. Right now I’m knitting a hat from one of my old issues, but something new and hot right now would be good too. Always room for another knitting magazine, isn’t there?

  25. As a knitting Janeite I want to get the magazine too! Most of what I am interested in knitting is from Interweave magazines. Of course, there’s a lot more I see that I’d like to knit than actually gets knitted! Thanks for the contest!

  26. My fav magzine would be Vogue Knitting and yes I have made items from them but I also love just flipping through and dreaming about all those lovely things. I recently Finished the Chevron Scarf in the Spring Summer 2010 addition.

  27. I look through my mom’s Interweave knits magazine. I am too busy to knit while in school. I would say that the Jane Austen magazine looks like an interesting knit read. Like many of you, that scarf on the cover is very pretty!

  28. I’ve read all of Jane Austen’s books, beginning with Pride and Prejudice in 7th grade. I’m hooked on the magazine!

  29. I just finished knitting the koolhass hat from Jared flood. I am trying to knit things from my magazines and books since I have so many now.

  30. i am addicted to the magazines as well though admit i have cut back due to finanaces. I too adore the interweave! Have not even seen the Austin one yet but got an email about another new one…hmmmmmm………

  31. I have been waiting for Jane Austin Knits to come out. I want to make everything in it, but especially the shawl shown in purple (I’ve forgotten the name right now)
