I continue to be a sucker for knitting magazines, and it always seems like I find the most knittable projects in Interweave magazines. Oh, there is beautiful eye candy in all of the different knitting magazines out there, for sure. But the projects I look at and think, “I might make that!” typically come from Interweave magazines.
Did you get a copy of their Holiday Gifts issue this fall? I want to knit up McHenry by Susan B. Anderson (a cute stuffed puppy pattern, as well as a puppy hat for kids option). Susan comes up with the greatest patterns for kids. I also like the Novel Sleeve by Kathy Zimmerman (perfect for your Kindle or Nook). But the pattern that I just had to start in on this week are the Ashbury Mitts by Simona Merchant-Dest, shown on the cover. It’s making me try my first go at bobbles. (They’re so easy. Sometimes I wonder why I think things are intimidating – cables, colorwork, bobbles – all were just fine, once I actually sat down and tried them.)
Another recent publication from Interweave was Jane Austen Knits. I’ve marked the Fiori Pullover sweater by Mary Annarella, the Lambton Top by Theressa Silver, and the Frederick & Anne scarf by Kirsti Johanson, as possible future projects. I was so anxious to see this issue that I bought it myself, even though I knew I’d be getting a copy in the mail for advertising in it. Since I now have 2 copies, I’m giving one away to a lucky blog reader today. Would you like it? Just leave a comment below and we’ll announce the winner on Monday’s blog. (I wish I had five copies to give away!) Do you have a favorite pattern that you’ve made from a knitting magazine?
In keeping with Gratitude Week here on the blog, we have winners from Wednesday’s blog. We are sending a beautiful skein of indie-dyed yarn to these five knitters: Eloise from OR, Suellen from PA, Beth from MD, Cynthia from NC, and Melissa from MI.
I took photos of the Colorado Loopy Shop Space-in-progress last week. I’ll share them on Monday’s blog. It’s sloooowly coming together ….

I was just about to order Jane Austen knits but now will see if I am lucky enough to win it!
I keep buying magazines, but have yet to knit from one, although I put aside patterns that I want to knit.
I have never heard of Jane Austen but see I’m going to have to investigate.
Problem I don’t think we have a store in Sask that sells that quality of product.
THANK Goodness for on line shopping.
Hope you are continuing to enjoy your hoilday.
Maybe watch Planes,Trains and Automobiles I know its not exactly the top movie but really has a lot to say about the hoilday.
I wanted you to know my daughter made the pumpkin cake from the blog the other day. We had it for Thanksgiving dessert and it was great! Not as much as I would have liked left over for today, either, I might add!
You know, I went through my projects on Ravelry and discovered that the only thing that I think I’ve knit that was a pattern in a magazine was the shawl Icarus from Interweave Knits. (We are having leftover turkey for dinner as well).
Open face turkey sandwiches with graveyard are on the menu at my house also. I almost enjoy them as much as the feast itself. π The Jane Austen knits look beautiful. A free copy would be a great early Christmas, for me!
I would LOVE a copy of Jane Austen Knits! It’s got some great patterns in it and who doesn’t love Jane Austen?
I love that scarf on the cover of the Jane Austen magazine. Would love to make it!
The last thing I made from a magazine is Midsummer Night’s Shawl from Interweave Crochet, summer 2010. Interweave does have great publications!
I’d love a copy of Jane Austen Knits. There are some great patterns in there.
I do like the patterns in Interweave, but most of the patterns that I have knit from magazines through my knitting life have been from Knitter’s. Currently am knitting Kathy Zimmerman’s Vanilla Freeze for 4th qtr challenge – mine is [Graphite Freeze](project) because I am using Pashmina in Graphite. My most favorite was a skirt from an issue of Knitter’s from the late 60’s that looked pleated because of the arrangement of knit & purls in a wide rib and the shaping of the skirt took place by decreasing the number of purl sts between the knit sections.
I seem to tear so many projects out of magazines but make few of them. The ones I do make seem to come from the Interweave publications. One of my favorites is a scarf made of modular squares but I can’t remember the name. It is a great pattern to work on whole traveling.
I love going through older magazines and finding things I love now, but that I passed over when the magazine was new. I just CO for a “Syncopated Hat” from a 2007 interweave hat. I must have seen it when I first got the magazine, but when I saw it this time I just had to CO immediately!
Would love to win a Jane Austen Knits magazine. Looks great. I like anything knew.
Do online magazines count? If so, the thhe Linden Sweater I made form Twist Collective. There are so many magazine patterns that I love that I just haven’t knit yet. I would love to win a copy of the Jane Austen Knits! π
I just had a leftover turkey sandwich, yams and cranberry sauce for lunch!
I have not knit anything from a magazine yet although there are several in my queue. (Like swallowtail shawl) And I LOVE the look of the new Jane Austen Knits!
I’m knitting from Interweave’s Knits Holiday Gifts now
I’m a knitter, I’d love to have a copy of Jane Austen Knits
of course, I’d have to buy more yarn.
Happy Week End
can’t wait ’til Monday to see the progress at the new Loopy Ewe.
hugs
Gerry
I just finished knitting the Ashbury Mitts for the Interweave holiday knits. It was
a fun knit and turned out darling. I to was going to buy the Jane Austen Knits, but
will wait and see if i win.
Thanks for all these wonderful contests!
Since I ate at someone else’s house, all I brought home were my own leftovers of mashed potatoes and gravy that they didn’t want. So no turkey sandwiches until I get another turkey out of the freezer and roast it. Soon!
Jane Austen knits! What a great idea, and how generous of you to share a copy! I can’t wait to check out the patterns in both magazines.
Pick me!
I bought a copy of this to give a gift to a missionary friend who is a huge Jane Austen fan and knits her own designs to boot! I didn’t even look through it – didn’t want to weaken my resolve!!
Thanks for having a giveaway – the Jane Austen Knits issue looks really great!
Happy Black Friday!
I made a shawl with bulky yarn from the first issue of Interweave Knit magazine I got. It turned out really nice. I would love to get the Jane Austin issue…
Jane
I bought both of these magazines (so I don’t need to be entered in the contest). I did knit the McHenry hat for my grandson (using different colors). I used a golden tan and dark brown so he looks like a floppy eared German Shepherd. It’s hard to look through the Jane Austen magazine and decide which to knit first. It’s really nice just to look through and is one of those magazines where every pattern is wonderful. I have a lot of pages bookmarked in the Holiday Gifts one too. I know I’ve knit patterns from magazines but between yesterday’s festivities and working today – I just can’t think tonite π
My favorite hat pattern is from Interweave – the Brattleboro hat – I’ve knit 4 of them!
I’ve never subscribed to a knitting mag.. guess I should check them out sometime, huh?
I have two interweave projects marked but haven’t started–must finish Christmas knits. But if I win I could buy yarn to knit something in the magazine!
I absolutely love the Interweave knitting magazines. The Jane Austen knits looks really good. The pattern I use most from an Interweave Knits magazine is one from 3 or 4 years ago which is a generic toe-up sock pattern. That article is my sock-knitting bible!
I love knitting magazines and I have several with patterns in them that I have put on my to knit list but I’ve yet to knit a single one! ONE OF THESE DAYS!
Hope the move goes well. I can’t wait to see the progress pictures.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I don’t have a lot of knitting magazines. Those I do have (mostly Interweave publications) have lots of patterns I’d like to try, but somehow something else always ends up on my needles. I did knit a sweater from a magazine pattern many years ago (back in the 60’s), but I have no idea which magazine. It was a red cardigan with white snowflakes and I wore it for many years. Does that count?
I had a turkey sandwich for lunch (my favorite way to use leftover turkey) and we had a re-run of Thanksgiving dinner for supper.
one of my favorite magazine knits is the baby pea coat in debbie bliss.
I also buy the magazines, but have yet to knit a pattern from one.
Fave pattern from a magazine? Yes — in a vintage issue of Vogue knitting http://images4.ravelrycache.com/uploads/polarbears/535479/b30191_small.jpeg — a summer one from ages ago 1996! — the USA sweatshirt on the cover. I made it so many times it’s ridiculous. One of those garments that everyone wears and never goes out of style. Love it so much I have several copies in case one goes astray.
I love Interweave Knits, it’s on my Christmas list. They are the sort of magazine you drool over!
I’d love to win the Interweave magazine—the patterns look really pretty!
My favorite pattern to knit is the Montego Bay Scarf by Amy Singer. However, if you asked my my favorite Ravelry pattern it is Summer Wind. I’m on my second…
I hadn’t seen this issue yet, but it looks really awesome! Thanks for offering it.
Right now, I have a pair of Spring Thaw socks on the needles, by Cat Bordhi, and from Knitter’s magazine.
Oooo, that sounds like it would be a lovely magazine! I’ve never actually knit up anything from a magazine before, I just look enviously at the pictures. But this would be a great opportunity for me to do a first-time magazine knit! Please put me in the drawing for Jane Austen π
~Lacey
I love this magazine! Hope I can win it!
I would have loved meeting the real Jane Austin!
I’ve been intrigued by the title of this magazine for a while . . . thanks for the contest, Sheri!
The magazine looks lovely.
Haven’t made any patterns from a magazine yet… I’m still absorbing every knitting book I can find at the library. And I could KEEP Jane Austin!!
The pattern I would like to knit is the Fountain Pen shawl out of Interweave Knits Magazine (not sure what year or issue). I’m sure I could find many from the Jane Austine Knits too.
I would love to win the Jane Austen book!
I have made several things from magazines, mostly from Interweave Knits or other Interweave publications. I’ve made Ribby Toque (Knit.1), Koolhaus hat (2009 IK Holiday), Citron Socks (Interweave), and the Gnome from Simply Knitting just to name a few!
Wondering if Jane Austen would have used acrylics keeps me up nights π
I haven’t knit a lot of projects from magazine patterns, but of those that I did, Swallowtail Shawl and Twilight Lace Scarf are my two favorites – and both of them were from Interweave Knits!
My daughters would like it if I won the Jane Austen magazine. π
