A Day in the Life of Little Loopy

While The Loopy Lady is off buying stuff at Market, I get to take over the blog and share my day with you. I’m sure you wonder what a typical day at Loopy Central entails, so I made sure that someone photo-ed me to share the details with you. (Note – lots of photos in this post…)

Of course the day starts out with a “Grande Skinny Hazelnut with one Equal” made by our favorite barista (KD), delivered by our second favorite barista, Matt. Sometimes it’s a Venti day, but today was just a Grande day.

Things are always hopping from the get-go. It’s dark inside Loopy Central when I arrive first thing in the morning – except for the safety lights. (Funny story about The Loopy Lady – she and WH walked around for about 10 minutes the first night they moved into this space, trying to figure out where the light switches were to turn off the rest of the lights. She was just sure that it was completely dark in here when she arrived that morning. Of course it wasn’t. These stay on 24/7 for “safety”.)

DSC01877.JPG

The first thing I do is print and write on the orders. Or rather, start writing on the orders while the rest print out. A lot of you apparently like to shop at all hours of the night. We like that about you.

DSC01861.JPG

I hang out with some of the Elves while they pack orders. They’re fun to talk to and they all help to make this a happy place to work.

DSC01865.JPG

We like getting deliveries, and they come every day. Our favorite UPS person – Brenda – usually arrives first. We give her a good workout.

DSC01862.JPG

Not to be outdone, the FedEx guy arrives next, and I decided that I might like to go along for the ride with him today. I’m sure I’d have fun. (Alas, the Elves plucked me right back out of his pocket. Apparently they need me here. It’s nice to be needed.)

DSC01866.JPG

I wandered over to check on Cassie as she printed out labels. She’s working here for the summer and so far she’s doing just great. But I wanted to make sure. Y’all are kinda picky about getting your orders to the right house and such, so we try to make sure it all goes like it’s supposed to.

DSC01867.JPG

Then I hopped on the cart for a ride to the front room where we stack the boxes until the mailman comes. We make several trips to the door in a day, so we’re trying to figure out if we need to re-configure Loopy Central a bit. Or maybe we’ll just keep it this way and burn more calories. What do you think?

DSC01869.JPG

Time to check emails and Ravelry messages. That takes up a big part of my day, but it’s always fun to hear from all of you! Sometimes I get behind, but I try not to.

DSC01874.JPG

Lunchtime! I always try to eat a very balanced lunch. You’ll notice I have both regular AND peanut M&M’s on the plate. (I’m a little too short to sit on the stool and eat at the counter, so I just sit and eat on the stool.)

DSC01868.JPG

Back to work. We’re putting away some of the cases of stuff that arrived today. There was lots of roving to swing in climb on check in and put away.

DSC01863.JPG

And more Lorna’s Laces to re-stock. Bags and bags of it. My feet got tired of standing. I wanted to lay down on one of those soft bags and take a nap, but someone caught me and made me get back to work. I left the rest of the unpacking and re-stocking to the Elves. There were too many boxes for me to deal with.

DSC01870.JPG

We’re always looking at new yarns and contemplating additions to The Loopy Ewe. I like so many things that it’s hard to narrow it down. Hmmmm …. what should we do?

DSC01871.JPG

To make matters worse better, one of our Yarn Reps came today. We have had the Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn on order for ages, but we hadn’t seen all of the colors yet. He had them, and we love them all. We will have these just as soon as possible – sometime this summer. (Shhh – want to know a secret? I ordered a bunch of Noro Silk Garden Worsted, too. I figured that The Loopy Lady is all excited about her sweater and she might want to make one with this. It’s amazing and I didn’t want to give up the sample skein of it. but I did. Don’t tell anyone about that new purchase – it’s still a secret and I’m hoping TLL won’t mind that I put in a big order for it. She signs the checks, you know.)

DSC01872.JPG

Back to my emails and messages again, for a good part of the afternoon. Our mailman Rich arrives between 3:30 and 4:00 to take all of the packages away and send them on their way to you. Sometimes he walks into the front room and just groans, but most days he has a good attitude, no matter how many boxes are there. We appreciate that about him.

DSC01880.JPG

I place a few more re-orders, finish up a few more emails, do a few more things to prepare for next week’s Sneak Up, and then it’s time to lock up and go home. Whew. Another day done and I’m sure glad The Loopy Lady will be back next week to take over again.

DSC01875.JPG

I’m going home to knit. I hope someone has dinner ready…..

What’s one thing I might’ve done at your house, if I had taken over for you today?

  1. Today was 3rd Grade International Day at my oldest daughter’s school — each class studied a continent and took turns hosting other classes. You would have had the chance to dress-up, play drums, eat local products and teach kids how to play Mancala (a game with pebbles, a board with 14 little holes and lots of strategy). Lots of fun! (Though it could have been a little cooler — kids were hot but great! We’re not used to 90 degree days up here.)

  2. Hey there little loopy! Looks like you have a FUN day! And Loopy Lady has the same car that I do! I only wish mine took me from starbucks to loopy central every day too!

  3. Well, Little Loopy, unlike Janice who will be pampering you, I would have had you take over with the kids today. I would like to see what you can do with a whining 4 year old and an on the move 9 month old, both seemed extra demanding today. In fact, it was one of those days where both kids AND mom were crying!

Hmm, maybe you could ask Janice to stop by with her lemonade and hammock. She could take over when you need a break:)

Very cute post today, I loved it.

  4. Your day sounds a lot more fun than mine… mine started out with a test! -laugh- Well, if you’d been at my house today, you’d have been able to keep my big fat kitty-cat company while I’m away at school all day… I think he gets lonely!

  5. Little Loopy, you’re such a hard worker!

If you were at my house, you could play with your Little Loopy cousin who lives with me (he’s not as industrious as you are…it would be nice if he’d wash the dishes once in a while) and you could both tease my cats. They could use the excitement. And I have lots of books, so you could spend some time reading. And then you could go downstairs and see if you can count all the skeins of yarn I have that come from The Loopy Ewe. I’m not sure you can count that high….

  6. I was packing boxes too, but pottery, not yarn. Just imagine how Rich would groan if I had as many boxes to ship as you do!

By the way, on average how many boxes do get shipped out the days after a sneak up?

  7. I am at work right now, but I am planning a liesurely evening since it is Friday. We will have fajita salad for supper. Then I hope to knit on a sock or work on some counted thread embroidery. DH and I will walk the dog just before sunset, but that is something we enjoy.

  8. Love it!! Well, if you were at my house today, you’d have gone to a picnic with our local homeschooling group (several of us are knitters, and we knit through the whole thing, despite the 45mph winds!). You’d also play some Lego Indiana Jones on PS2 (waaaaay more fun than it ought to be!!), wash some dishes (bleah), and watch a six year old’s baseball game. There’s knitting at the ball game too, of course. đŸ˜‰ And, I imagine, at some point or another, my cat would probably beat the stuffing out of you. She loves smallish animals… :-O

  9. Hi Loopy! Whew, what a busy (but oh so fun!) day you had. If you were with me, I think I would have had you help me out with my critters! I would have you put out Tyler (my beloved GSD) and had you feed him and make sure his water is fresh.! I have 3 kitties you could have fed and made sure their kitty pan was fresh. You would have been a terrific help!! I would have kept on eye on you when you helped out with the kitties – – I have one in particular that is a real hunter – – I would have kept you safe tho!

  10. Wow, sounds like you’ve had a day!!! Although I could have used your help at lunch time today – I handed out almost 400 slices of pizzas to the kids in my son’s school… I’ll be doing it again in two weeks for the last time – wanna come???

  11. So far today other than walking the small one to school and doing a load of dishes the only thing you could have done here is take a nap. But you know, I bet you’d be great at finding the two skeins of yarn I need to pull out from the stash. I still haven’t done that job. Maybe I’ll get the resident Little Loopy to help with that.

  12. You would have been weaving at Vacation Bible School. It was very interesting teaching 3-year-olds thru 6th graders to weave using yarn scraps. Everybody got to make a bookmark (well, some of the younger kids picked out the colors and a grown-up made the bookmark).

  13. Little Loopy you just made my day! I am still smiling đŸ™‚
We are having a lazy day here – so you could have sat back on the yarn shelves all day! as long as you woke up in time to go to work w me tonight. . . .

  14. Oh LL, it was so much fun seeing what you do all day. If you came to my house, you could help my LL’s with their activities. I think today they were planning on baking a couple of pans of brownies to take out to the Renaissance Faire tomorrow. I think they were also going to fill out my daughter’s camp forms, and probably sit and knit while watching the NBA finals tonight. If they aren’t too tired, they might stay up late watching The Late Late Show with TV’s Craig Ferguson (who is, as far as they and I are concerned, the funniest thing on television!). Tomorrow and Sunday it is all day long at the Renaissance Faire, including tomorrow night at the fabulous Cast Party. I’m sure they would enjoy that, and since they wouldn’t be drinking much, they could be the designated drivers!

  15. I’ve had similar issues with Loopy, just keep forgetting to upload the pictures, i come home and hes in the oddest places.

makin calls on the cell phone

riding dobie around as he cleans

    playin the wii

and nabbing my knitting corner with my knitting!

  16. Dear Little Loopy, If you came to my house, we could put our pajamas on and curl up on the couch together and watch baseball. Then we could find a good book to read. You could read a chapter to me while I knit and I could read a chapter to you while you knit. We could find a good snack to eat and then have a slumber party. What time shall I expect you?

  17. Lil Loopy, you could have worked on my lace shawl repeats while I knit on Wendy Knits socks. Or, you could have Flick carded clean fleece from Freckles, who lives on a farm nearby and gave up her fleece so I can make a nice sweater after I spin it.

  18. If you took over for me today…….you might have……gotten up at 5:30AM……set up, attended and cleaned up for your daughters 5th grade graduation…….planted 2 flats of flowers…….. power washed the driveway…….cleaned the garage……water all the plants……..cook 30 lbs of ground beef……..washed and cut up assorted veggies to fill 11 gallon sized ziplock bags……ran and unloaded the dishwasher 3 times…….wash and fold 4 loads of laundry……taken tylenol pm’s and prayed you’d get everything ELSE done before your son’s big graduation fiesta bash at 2:oo tommorrow.
    I”M GOING TO BED!

  19. Well, since my company is based in my home, you could help me out with the MOUNTAIN of paperwork that needs to be done. I could also use some help with the filing. I hate filing….

  20. Hmmm….think I could stand having loopy finish the gardening. I like eating the vegies but not always getting them in and caring for them.

Perhaps loopy could help me take the hose to my small screamy children….that would be fun for EVERYONE and keep them busy so I could knit a few rows!

Have fun this summer loopy!….oh and Sheri too!

  21. I had some lovely soft laundry to fold. Loopy would have loved to snuggle down in the nice warm towels, I know my little doggies love to if I let them, LOL!

  22. You would help me pack my sock yarn and knitting books and knitting needles for still another move. I have to place it all just right and I’ll bet you could make sure it was all tucked in neatly!

  23. Little Loopy, if you were at my house you could join your little cousin help me keep my yarn organized-there’s plenty of chocolate here for you both to nibble while lounging. Then you could join us next weekend at the Estes Park Wool Market. We’ll take photos of your cousin, if you can’t make it,

Loved reading about your day at TLE. It reminded me of the trip there at the Fling where I bought so much wonderful yarn, your cousin, a hat, and a t-shirt.

TLL is lucky you’re so energetic.

  24. The amazing thing about humanizing a Little Loopy is the smile & laughs it brings to all of us! So nice, that the people in LL’s day were featured. I bet the Fedex person & mail person, etc. will share their 15 minutes of Loopy fame with their loved ones.

  25. If you would have helped me yesterday I would like to say that you would have gotten to sit, knit, and spin but Mother Nature was the cause of my work yesterday as I vacuumed water out of my basement with a steam cleaner. You could have gone to the library to check out a book or go with me to get Pedialyte for the little one at my house that is sick. Last night you would have got to play on the computer and sit and watch Days and General Hospital. You would also have kept me company as I dealt with Yarn Barf from a skein of Noro Sock Yarn.

    ItwassobadthatIstartedanewpairwiththeScarletFleecethatyousentmerecently.

  26. Wow, swinging on roving braids, rolling around in Lorna’s Lace… Little Loopy, you don’t need to go to ANYONE else’s house… you’re living my dream, little one! How about if I come to YOUR house for a while? (think I could get away with some of that fiber cavorting?

  27. Too cute! I love my little Loopy and he gets to do all kinds of fun things in my house–lay in the yarn, help me choose the next sock yarn, lay in the yarn some more. But, nothing as much fun as the REAL little Loopy gets to do!

  28. Well, you certainly had a busy day today and I imagine everyday. I think you might
need a rest. If you were at my house today, you would have either done the
laundry, go the bank, or go to the store for me. Maybe you could have even
knitted on some socks for me. It was a very cute post today and I’m sure the TLL
will be very happy that you posted for her.

  29. Well, had you been at my hosue TODAY (saturday), you would have certainly gone swimming and had a beer. *sigh* I love my off weekend. But on a normal work day you would have to draw blood from people in my emergency room and work until 11pm. ick! lol

  30. I would have taken you to the beach with me today!! It looks like you already have the top part of a tankini on…..or maybe we’d just stop at the store and buy you a Barbie swimsuit! đŸ™‚ You would need plenty of sunscreen, it was 93 degrees in NJ! But I’m sure it would hard to leave that life at the LE….it seems like so much fun. Thanks for sharing your day with all of us!

  31. If you were at my house today it would be a lot more cheerful and you could have shared my chocolate .

  32. The one thing I would have loved you to do for me would be to go to my mailbox and bring in the large box of wollmeise that I have been trying desperately to take possession of for a looooong time. No, the mailbox isn’t big enough. You might help the mailman take it off his truck and bring it to ME!!!!! Enough dreaming, back to my knitting………

  33. Little Loopy thank you for the look at your day! If you were at my haouse you could have gone with both my boys to dance class: you can tak eyour pick once you are there, dance with them or sit outside and knit with me!!

  34. I was gone most of the day on Friday at a staff retreat. We would have been listening to boring talks about the website but we would have also visited with some great co-workers. We ate some really delicious home-dipped chocolate strawberries.

  35. Wow! You are one busy Little Loopy. Thanks for taking over. I loved reading about your day!

  36. Dear Loopy,

I loved your report. You are the cutest ever. If you were at our house today, you could have done laundry or thrown tennis balls for the dogs to retrieve, but the most interesting possibility would have been hunting for morels. Yes — we had some come up in our backyard!!!! They like to hide under other plants, so it would have been very handy to have someone your size to search.

  37. Dear Loopy,

Loved you commentary while the Loopy Lady was away. If you were to come visit, I might solicit your help in keeping my knitting supervisor (aka as Natty cat) at bay while I got some serious knitting done – Christmas is approximately just 6 months 15 days away!!!! Natty cat is a Siamese fascinated by wool and alpaca.

  38. Loopy you are doing a fabulous job..you are fantastic…if you were at my house today..you would be helping my husband pouring concrete to set handrail poles. I would feed you very good..I have the dark chocolate MM’s…hope to get to Las Vegas someday..they have the only MM store in the US Of A…it is a very fun place & 3 stories..lots to choose from..have a great day tomorrow
