A Day in the Life of Little Loopy

While The Loopy Lady is off buying stuff at Market, I get to take over the blog and share my day with you. I’m sure you wonder what a typical day at Loopy Central entails, so I made sure that someone photo-ed me to share the details with you. (Note – lots of photos in this post…)

Of course the day starts out with a “Grande Skinny Hazelnut with one Equal” made by our favorite barista (KD), delivered by our second favorite barista, Matt. Sometimes it’s a Venti day, but today was just a Grande day.

Things are always hopping from the get-go. It’s dark inside Loopy Central when I arrive first thing in the morning – except for the safety lights. (Funny story about The Loopy Lady – she and WH walked around for about 10 minutes the first night they moved into this space, trying to figure out where the light switches were to turn off the rest of the lights. She was just sure that it was completely dark in here when she arrived that morning. Of course it wasn’t. These stay on 24/7 for “safety”.)

DSC01877.JPG

The first thing I do is print and write on the orders. Or rather, start writing on the orders while the rest print out. A lot of you apparently like to shop at all hours of the night. We like that about you.

DSC01861.JPG

I hang out with some of the Elves while they pack orders. They’re fun to talk to and they all help to make this a happy place to work.

DSC01865.JPG

We like getting deliveries, and they come every day. Our favorite UPS person – Brenda – usually arrives first. We give her a good workout.

DSC01862.JPG

Not to be outdone, the FedEx guy arrives next, and I decided that I might like to go along for the ride with him today. I’m sure I’d have fun. (Alas, the Elves plucked me right back out of his pocket. Apparently they need me here. It’s nice to be needed.)

DSC01866.JPG

I wandered over to check on Cassie as she printed out labels. She’s working here for the summer and so far she’s doing just great. But I wanted to make sure. Y’all are kinda picky about getting your orders to the right house and such, so we try to make sure it all goes like it’s supposed to.

DSC01867.JPG

Then I hopped on the cart for a ride to the front room where we stack the boxes until the mailman comes. We make several trips to the door in a day, so we’re trying to figure out if we need to re-configure Loopy Central a bit. Or maybe we’ll just keep it this way and burn more calories. What do you think?

DSC01869.JPG

Time to check emails and Ravelry messages. That takes up a big part of my day, but it’s always fun to hear from all of you! Sometimes I get behind, but I try not to.

DSC01874.JPG

Lunchtime! I always try to eat a very balanced lunch. You’ll notice I have both regular AND peanut M&M’s on the plate. (I’m a little too short to sit on the stool and eat at the counter, so I just sit and eat on the stool.)

DSC01868.JPG

Back to work. We’re putting away some of the cases of stuff that arrived today. There was lots of roving to swing in climb on check in and put away.

DSC01863.JPG

And more Lorna’s Laces to re-stock. Bags and bags of it. My feet got tired of standing. I wanted to lay down on one of those soft bags and take a nap, but someone caught me and made me get back to work. I left the rest of the unpacking and re-stocking to the Elves. There were too many boxes for me to deal with.

DSC01870.JPG

We’re always looking at new yarns and contemplating additions to The Loopy Ewe. I like so many things that it’s hard to narrow it down. Hmmmm …. what should we do?

DSC01871.JPG

To make matters worse better, one of our Yarn Reps came today. We have had the Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn on order for ages, but we hadn’t seen all of the colors yet. He had them, and we love them all. We will have these just as soon as possible – sometime this summer. (Shhh – want to know a secret? I ordered a bunch of Noro Silk Garden Worsted, too. I figured that The Loopy Lady is all excited about her sweater and she might want to make one with this. It’s amazing and I didn’t want to give up the sample skein of it. but I did. Don’t tell anyone about that new purchase – it’s still a secret and I’m hoping TLL won’t mind that I put in a big order for it. She signs the checks, you know.)

DSC01872.JPG

Back to my emails and messages again, for a good part of the afternoon. Our mailman Rich arrives between 3:30 and 4:00 to take all of the packages away and send them on their way to you. Sometimes he walks into the front room and just groans, but most days he has a good attitude, no matter how many boxes are there. We appreciate that about him.

DSC01880.JPG

I place a few more re-orders, finish up a few more emails, do a few more things to prepare for next week’s Sneak Up, and then it’s time to lock up and go home. Whew. Another day done and I’m sure glad The Loopy Lady will be back next week to take over again.

DSC01875.JPG

I’m going home to knit. I hope someone has dinner ready…..

What’s one thing I might’ve done at your house, if I had taken over for you today?

  1. Just one thing, you aren’t going to take a WHOLE day ; ) I would let you drive my kids to all their activities for the day, that alone would keep you busy. And I would reward you with a little knitting time at the end of the day too, that is my reward.

  2. Well, I think it’d be hilarious (although possibly life-threatening to Little Loopy) if he’d feed my cats. How does he stay out of Zoe & Gracie’s way at home??

  3. Oh LL, I’d probably have you play with my cats today. They like to chase things, so you could run all around the house – which is good exercise – and make them try to keep up with you!! my DH hasn’t been home all week and they haven’t gotten the usual play time. I’m sure you’d have the BEST time EVER. They are very sweet and don’t bite – although they might want to give you a bath. Then you could all take a nap until I get home from work. Wanna come over and play????

  4. this has to be the cutest blog entry EVER!!! if i had a nickel for every time i said awwwwwwwwwwww i could buy more on your site πŸ˜› your delivery folks have a great sense of humor. πŸ™‚ hats for christmas?? hehehe

  5. Well you know Little Loopy you could have multiple choice at my house. There is always plenty to choose from. If you get to dust today that would be good. Tell the Loopy Lady I hope she has fun at TNNA. I love her Kal sweater and she looks fabulous in it. Hugs

  6. You could have climbed a tree with my cat, Little Slick. I bet he would even let you ride on his back!

Ok Sheri – that was just too frelling cute for words! Good job!

  7. Little Loopy, you are too cute! Will you come over to wash and card my alpaca fleece? I spent three hours finishing the first pick-through yesterday and I don’t know if I can face it again. Who would have thought I could get sick of alpaca?

  8. Loopy you are so cute and you seem to slide into TLL shoes very well!

Thanks to ladies for holding down the fort while she shops for goodies πŸ˜‰

Loopy you can come to my house anytime but I don’t know how my 3 kitties would respond. πŸ˜‰

    Have a super weekend!

    Danielle in San Diego

  9. How fun to know what keeps Little Loopy busy all day! If you came to my house today, you could help with laundry, do some typing, decide what we are having for dinner tonight, and then sit down for some well-deserved knitting time while watching the baseball game! Come on over!

  10. If you’d taken over at my house, you could have cleaned out the ex-cat room, now junk room, soon-to-be stash room. Of course, that’s not a job to do in one day.

Your day sounded like a venti day to me. I don’t have a Starbucks in my town so I have Java Joz large mocchacino frappe everyday with whipped cream and chocolate. Java Joz is as drive thru only and my barista, Frankie, sees me in line and has mine ready when I pull up.

Silk Garden worsted–ummm–and I’m trying to knit up my sweater stash. Not having much luck though I keep buying more. I stopped knitting sweaters for many years and didn’t know wool felt so good as it does now. My stash is some yukky stuff like acrylic and cotton blends (not so yukky as acrylic). But I’m gonna knit it up!

  11. Hmmmmmm, well as long as you promise not to push the add to cart buttom and then the proceed to check out button You can help me add to my Loopy Wishlist. And like a few of thothers have said you can play with my cats esp the 2 little boys that love to race around the house playing or you can cuddle up with the Cranky Old Lady cat, be given a bath and nice soft fuzzy place to nap (its almost as good as cuddly sock yarn!) Of course since the weather has been iffy around here for acouple of days now you can be the official weather watcher too! πŸ™‚ Hope TLL has alot of fun this weekend!! I wanted to attend TNNA but wasnt able to budget it this year, maybe next:-)

  12. Little Loopy- Mi casa e sua casa! You can clean whatever you want- and I won’t argue if you stop to take naps! Your mate Loopy who lives at my house is very lazy, so it won’t be hard showing him up! He just sits on Ravelry all day.

Make sure you bring the Starbucks. And that sample yarn on the bottom right, with all the pretty colors!

  13. More trips burns more calories and allows for more chocolate eating.

If you were at my house, you’d help hold the umbrella so neither of us gets our wool wet πŸ˜‰

  14. Loopy, if you came to my house you could hang out with my little loopy, and the 2 of you could feed/visit the big sheep out in the barn. There’s goats out there too, I wonder how you would like to meet a goat?

  15. Hey Little Loopy – Wow, where do I begin…

    1) You could have reconciled my checkbook (I hate that job).
    2) You could have put my winter sweaters away & gotten out my summer clothes
(I STILL haven’t gotten around to that yet. Weather in Wisconsin has been
    cooler than average, FPS!)
    3) You could have weeded my flower beds (nah, I do like that job)

I could go on and on, but it looks like you’re needed most at Loopy Central. Thank you for sharing your day with us. If you’d ever like to trade places for a day…..

    ifyouthinkwritingthosesentancesarehard,readingthemisn’tanyeasier

  16. You could come with me and be a music teacher for a day. I think I could find a baton just your size. Plus, you could try out the tuba!

  17. Little Loopy,

Those were great pictures. Thanks for sharing your day. Your lunch gave my daughter and I a good chuckle.

If you were at our house today, you’d be cleaning up to make room for the delivery men to bring the new stove/oven, microhood, and backsplash because the storms killed our old stove/oven/hood.

  18. Well, since I’m at work a good chunk of my day, I’d probably take you with me because I could always use extra help even though the new staff accountant I hired is proving to be great. I had to type up some forms (I don’t know if you’ve ever been exposed to typewriters (I learned how to type on them, not a computer keyboard), but we still have one in the office and certain forms require its use – the organizations need to get up to speed: Fill in Forms are the way to go, so we don’t have to use typewriter, FPS!) – so I could have used some assistance there… As a reward, I would take you with me for an afternoon Black Iced Tea that I like to get at SB…. I need them on these hot, humid days – even though I’m in an air conditioned building all day, lol.

Thanks for such an enjoyable post today – I needed a little chuckle! : )

  19. Little Loopy could get all of my new stash acquisitions put away. Or bring the laundry up from the basement. Or dust. Or clean bathrooms.

Oh, and he could also collude with Roaming Tigger, who likes to steal my wallet and go on shopping trips of his own. YIKES! I’d be afraid of what those two stinkers could get into together!

What am I doing? Trying to get some work done so I can get on a few of those other things I just mentioned!

    Have a great weekend!

  20. Oh my word that was TOOO CUTE!

I am so glad my lil loopy is already here.. or that would have sure;y pushed me over the edge of buying one… and then having to WAIT for the cuteness to arrive! πŸ˜‰

  21. Hurray for a Lil’ Loopy post! πŸ™‚

If you where here today Lil’ Loopy you would have packed the family up for our annual Relay for Life. πŸ˜‰ We’re bringing you along! πŸ™‚

  22. Oh, Loopy, you’d be so handy to have around this week. My husband is recovering from throat surgery – nothing major, but he needs lots of snuggling and someone to keep an eye on the clock so he gets his medication on time. And I could really use a hand organizing my Wool Room; it’s a bit out of control right now. Hey, do you know how to spin? My wheel could use some exercise… Oh, and the kids would *love* to build a block-city for you, I’m sure.
    C’mon over, you’ll have fun!

  23. Little Loopy.

I really enjoyed getting a tour of your busy day! At my house, the school year has ended which means there are some pretty serious piles of paper that need to be organized and filed (or recycled?). What I most WANT to do is figure out what my next sock project is going to be–which yarn and which pattern, I bet you would be a great help with that. And then, there is always laundry!

  24. Well, little Loopy, you could have helped me finish the lionfish costumes for the ballet. They’re red and white so I just know you’d love them. How are you at painting? Hot glue? Yeah, better keep you away from the hot glue. And come to think of it, if you HAD helped, you might have been camoflaged by the colors! But come on…sneak into the ballet and pretend your a lionfish too! (Photos on my blog!)

  25. I LOVE IT!! Little Loopy, you are such a good sport to take over while Sheri is gone! πŸ™‚

If you had been at my house today, you might have fed the cat or perhaps helped Mama to organize her magazines in the den. Not as much fun as checking in new yarn and roving, but interesting, nonetheless. πŸ˜‰

I think Paddy-cat might ask me for his own Little Loopy after seeing this. He would like his own personal head-scratcher, you know, since I can’t be there every minute of the day. Do you think it’s a good job for one of your cousins?

  26. Well, today you could have homeschooled my children and hung out my laundry. If you are a good cook then you couold make dinner as well. Mostly though I would love it if you went to my nursing job for me this weekend so that I could be with the kiddos and hubby. Although the dog might run off with you, so I think you need to stay there.

  27. Oh Little Loopy you are just too cute! And I feel your pain about trying to lie down in some of that yummy roving and being put right back to work by those elves!! (Of course none of them ever lie down on the job, so I guess it’s only fair). If you were at my house I would just let you lie in the hammock and sip lemonade all day. So if you want to come, Loopy Lady knows the way! (And she should come with you for that matter!!)

  28. Well, Little Loopy, you could have sorted my yarn collection into laceweight, fingering weight, and “sweater weight” yarns, repacked the skeins into my storage bins, and labeled the bins. The little loopies who are already here at my place in California are kept busy locating the yarn in my current and next projects, because I have a lot of yarn kind of jumbled together on the living room couch. You’d do a good job at the sorting, I know, because you gave us such a great tour!

  29. You wouldn’t want to come take over at my house on any day! Your, uh…cousin (?) has to hide way up high, with his arms tied around a pole, to keep the nine ferrets in the house from stealing him away to some secret hidey-hole!

But, just *supposing* the ferrets were kept out of reach, you’d be

    – checking the 120gallon aquarium on the half-hour, watching the new baby Pomacea bridgesii snails,

    – helping me ignore the laundry and vacuuming,

    – assist the design process of the lace stole I’m working on… (please!)

    – moaning along with me at the lack of such balanced lunches as you’re used to (!)

Seems kinda boring, compared to your usual day! I wish I could get that many boxes from you and the crew at a time!

    Anne.

  30. You seem to get so much done in a day….amybe you could vacuum a little and then help with the salad chopping for dinner? There could quite possibly be a nice SB Mocha Frapaccino to round out the day :^)

And you might have to avoid the dogs here too. They love to run off with warm, cuddly, stuffed friends :^O

  31. Lil Loopy–I noticed you say “y’all. You must come from Texas! If you were here today you might get blown away! It’s been so windy and hot! So I suppose you would be swimming in my pond along with all my frogs and one VERY friendly dog named “T”. Hope Sheri appreciates what you do around there. If she doesn’t–you just come on back home to Texas!

  32. Lil Loopy I could really use your helping with my ironing. As soon as I get a bit done, more springs up. If you helped me I would have more time for knitting. But I’m worried that my cats might think you were a snack…

  33. Hi Loopy – You are doing a fantastic job! Your cousin who lives at my house is resting because is busy playmates (the little boys who live here too) are still sleeping. I should wake them up but it tis very quiet right now and I think Cousin Loopy and I are both enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.

  34. WOW! You are busy!

At my house, you would have let the dogs out, let the dogs in, let the dogs out, let the dogs in… πŸ™‚

Oh! You also would have taken my daughter, Mayhem, to her softball game or practice depending upon what day of the week it was. Fridays are usually practice.

  35. Best. Blog. Ever.

Little Loopy, you could come help me pack! I’m moving in a couple weeks and have SO much to weed through – I’ll cart all the unneeded stuff to Goodwill and the garbage, if you’ll pack the boxes and stack ’em for me πŸ™‚

  36. LL – you could definitely do laundry at my house and have time to knit in between loads. I wouldn’t mind if you played in my stash or took a nap in it either…so come visit soon!

  37. Best blog entry read today!!!

Little Loopy, you wouldn’t want to be at my house today. Today is move the furniture out of the house day so the new furniture for comfy cozy knitting spot can come into the house next weekend (or is it the one after?). Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it out and I’m going to have to pay someone to do it (sadly cuts into yarn budget). But if you were here, we’d just feed you M & M’s and Loopy Kisses while you supervise the work at hand. πŸ™‚

  38. It was awesome to hear about a”day in the life” of Loopy! Thank you for sharing with us today. πŸ™‚

  39. It made me tired just looking at all the things you had to do, Loopy. It’s pouring rain here; I’d love it if you could come over and walk the dog for me.

  40. Nice job, Little Loopy! All those photos give us a very good idea of what’s going on there at Loopy Central. Carry on! (in a good way, of course)

    Regards,

    Debra

  41. I agree with the vacuming, and some dusting, maybe give the dogs a bath? Or you could come and sit and knit by the pool because I am going to take some ME time today and do just that!
