Favorite Way to Celebrate Your Birthday CONTEST!

DSC01592.JPGIt has been a very fun week, because every time the mailman comes, he brings something cool. About a month ago, Laura (who, frankly, is now in my “best friend” category. No, we’ve never met. Why?) pointed out to people on the Loopy Groupie board that I had a birthday coming up in a month, and wouldn’t it be fun if people knit me socks? Well, that just about blew my socks off stunned me. I can’t believe people would knit me socks of any kind for my birthday! And then someone suggested that mini socks would be fun, too. (I love mini socks.) So the mailman has been very very good to me this week and you all are just amazing. I’ll show you more photos next week. (And besides socks, I have gotten other fun stuff, too – whee! I’m going to start having two birthdays a year, I think. Although, wait – that would age me twice as fast. Never mind.) Here is a photo of some of the mini socks that have arrived. Aren’t they cute? I think everyone needs a lineup of mini socks. At one time I thought it would be fun to knit a bunch for the mini sock blocker keychains and hang them on my knitting bag. (I have two on there. One knit by me and one knit by my friend Valerie. I still think it would be fun to have more.) Someone once told me that they knit a sock blocker keychain sock to go with each pair of gift socks that they make. Another person said that they knit a sock blocker keychain sock for themselves for every sock yarn they knit up into socks. All cute ideas! (The framed display board? LOVE these. I have a bunch of them. They look especially great when you line three of them up over your couch with family photos on them. This one is in my office . I also think it’d be good to have one in your knitting room with swatches or project ideas or patterns or knitting plans on it. They’re from Creative Memories and if you type in your zipcode, you can find yourself a consultant near you and order online.)

DSC01588.JPGSo tomorrow is my birthday, and I’m taking the day off. (Of course The Elves will be here working on all of your orders.) Besides eating out, my day will include a little shopping, a little chocolate, and a big Venti. Plus time with WH and KD. (Sadly, not College Guy. But I do get to see him later this weekend – yay!) The February Blog Contest Question of the Month is: What is your favorite way to spend your birthday? Leave your answers in the comments below and I’ll draw a name next Wednesday to pick a winner. What is the prize? Something very fun, not yet offered here at The Loopy Ewe because we’ve only received a few of them so far. Aren’t you curious? 🙂

  1. I like to share dinner with my family and spend the day ‘off the radar’. There HAS to be cake….and cake again for breakfast the next day!

When younger I wanted to make such a big party out of the big day…..now I just want a quiet day off from the daily bustle of life!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to YOU!! and thanks for the yarn too 🙂 enjoy all your socks!

  2. hmmm…. my favorite way to spend my birthday – an entire day out with my husband. from morning to night. NO KIDS anywhere in sight! atleast not MY kids. : ) Just me, my hubby, some great food, junk and antique shopping, maybe a museum. In other words, a lovely day with my amazing man – all to myself… and NO CELLPHONES!!!! Hopefully we can make it happen. My birthday’s next month! : )

  3. My favorite way to spend my birthday, as sappy as this may sound, is with my family. I don’t care about doing a big to-do for my birthday anymore. Ever since I turned 21, I feel like every other year is just a way to celebrate my eventual death, and that just brings me one year closer to it, so my birthday, to me, is no big deal anymore. I do like to celebrate the fact that I am here though, so I spend it being sappy with my family, and with LOADS of cake, because that’s the one day out of the year that I don’t care if I’ll gain 5 pounds from some sweet, sugary, super fattening cake.

  4. Well the answer to your questio would depend on what point in my life you were asking me. When I was younger and childless probably something crazy and fun like getting in the car with a few friends and just seeing where we end up, or finding the biggest carrot cake around and eating as much as I can by my myself (LOL back when I could do that and STILL fit in my jeans the next day!) Now with two young kids my birthday wishes are much calmer- a shower or bath all by my lonesome? Maybe dinner with out a two year old and a baby in my lap? Oooh and definately some uninteruptted knitting time *sigh* sounds like a great brithday to me!!!

  5. I used to pick a list of about 10 people, a mix of people I didn’t get to see often enough and those I see nearly daily, and invite them to dinner. I always expected to pay for myself (and ate affordably rather than decadently as a result), though I didn’t normally have to pay. It was usually Thai followed by a trip to one of the local ice cream parlors (Herrells equals delicious).

Of course, now I ask for a nap for my birthday, because sleep is a wonderful thing.

  6. This year for my birthday (2/24), I spent it knitting and shopping for yarn!!! My DH took the children to the museum for the day and they left me alone!! Then for dinner they took me for my favorite dinner…pancakes at the diner!! That was a great day!! Too bad it is only once a year!

  7. I think my favorite way to spend my birthday is with my husband. We usually go to the movies and then out to dinner at whatever my favorite restaurant is at the time. 🙂 If I’m lucky, the “birthday penguin” leaves me a present by my bed when I wake up in the morning too. 😉

    Happy Birthday!

  8. I like to have my very closest friends over for dinner and I buy each of them a birthday gift from me. I think since it is my birthday I should be grateful and I should buy the gifts. It is always fun.

  9. What I ask for my birthday is to have a day with no plans or duties (no driving the kids around or fixing meals.) Just the day for myself, to do whatever I want to.

    Happy birthday!

  10. Take off work and knit knit knit all day, watching Netflix and/or listening to knitting podcasts. And eating homebaked cookies.

  11. My favorite way to spend a birthday is of course buying yarn!! I try to get to a fall sheep and wool festival around my birthday weekend with other fiber junkies and no children! I love to come home after a day of fiber fun and have dinner and cake with my husband and three children and then play/ admire/ fondle my new purchases! (This is how i spend Mother’s Day too!!!)

  12. My very good friend took me to lunch and we had time to just yak. Then we went to two of my favorite stores and she let me pick out my present. VERY NICE.
My husband took me out to dinner and I even ordered yarn on the internet later.
    What could be better???
I hope yours is great and makes you happy.

  13. I hope you are having a wonderful birthday that is spent exactly how you want to! My favorite way to spend my birthday is to have fun eating birthday cake that my husband and son bake me. I always have to remind myself that it will taste better than it looks!!

  14. Happy B-Day! I like to spend my birthday shopping for my own present. Usually it’s at my LYS which is closing temporarily to move. Ahhh!

  15. My favorite way to spend my birthday is curling up inside with a big mug of hot chocolate, a warm blanket and my darling husband and watching a movie. Luckily he enjoys waiting on me hand and foot for my birthday. We usually make a couple of days out of it (my ‘birthday weekend extravaganza’) and go do something fun that we don’t usually do.

  16. Happy Birthday!

I think my favorite birthday celebration occurred a year and a half ago, and didn’t involve knitting! I did have to go to work that day, but that night I went to my regular poker game, everyone bought me drinks and one of my friends got me a wonderful cake with a card theme. I felt loved and that was the most important part!

  17. My favorite way… sitting home and waiting for the phone calls… you see, my Dad and (so far) one of my brothers are commercial fisherman. I almost never catch them at home and don’t get to talk to them very often. Especially my Dad… it’s always been that way. But somehow on my birthday every year, he finds a port, or a cell tower or something and calls me. A special call just for me. There is no better gift!

  18. Well! I don’t work on my birthday, and I like to get some pampering in – if it’s a trip to the spa or a pedicure or something, and then a nice dinner with friends & family. I’m turning 40 this year, and my husband says he’s already planning something, which is both exciting, and nervous-making, because who knows what he’s come up with, and I made him promise it was not paintball. I can’t think of a worse way to celebrate being 40 – getting shot!

  19. Happy Birthday!

My favorite way to spend my birthday is a day wiath a pile of books-a Christian novel, quilt magazine and a knitting book, maybe…followed by a big dinner at home with my husband, kids and grandkids. Nothing fancy, but love and good food for all. That way the food blesses more than me!

  20. My favourite birthday was my 40th. My best friend arrived on my doorstep, she lives 4,000kms away! Another friend arrived, we talked, laughed, ate chocolate cake and drank champagne. And then my husband told me he had organised a surprise party the next night at an Italian restaurant.
As long as I get to be with the people I love everything else is extra. Chocolate cake is pretty much a staple though….and I do love a surprise present occasionally!
I hope yours is fantastic, happy birthday!

  21. I like to call my mom, because she lives far away and I don’t get to see her very often. Other than that, a quiet day where I get to sleep in and spend time with my husband is the best birthday I could want!
Have a splendid day, Sheri! 🙂

  22. Happy Birthday Sheri! I’m right after you, my b-day is March 1st. Was it a leap year the year you were born? It was when I was born and my father kept terrorizing me by telling me that if I had been born a day earlier I would only grow one year older for every four. That’s a scary thought when you’re a kid and want to hurry and grow up but that would sure be great now!

My favorite way to spend my birthday is having a game day with friends, which I’m doing this weekend – luckily my b-day is on a Saturday this year. Hope you’re enjoying your day!

  23. Happy Birthday!

On my birthday, I love eating all my favorite snack/junk foods, having all my favorite friends over (that doesn’t happen very often, though), eating whatever dinner I happen to be in the mood for, and I frequently like going shopping, too (I usually get money for my bday, so that’s even more fun). It frequently takes a couple days (or weeks, if I don’t go shopping right away) to get through all my birthday, especially since every separate place I’m involved gives me an extra something special.

A Birthday Week is I think one of the coolest concepts EVER.

  24. My favorite way to spend my birthday (I never work on my birthday!) Is to visit the “Butterflies Alive” exhibit at the public museum. I love to have all the butterflies land on me, their color and delicate beauty always inspire me!

  25. My favorite way to spend my birthday, would be to share it with dh, and have ds and his dw there too. Oh and I would love to have my dad there with me as I lost my mom several years ago, and you never know how long your loved ones will be with you!

Happy Birthday Sherri, may this be the best Birthday ever!

  26. My favorite way to spend a birthday is with family and close friends doing something special. Being with family and friends is really what makes it special regardless of what we do!

  27. The best way to spend my birthday: get up when I wake up (no alarms!), spend time in my comfy chair w/ my book of the moment and drinking coffee, taking a few mins to read birthday cards ( I love cards), lunch with my friends, afternoon shopping, dinner with my parents who still make me my favorite birthday meal, and then finally, because now I knit, spend the time before bed with my new knitty stuff or knitting up some new birthday yarn….ahhhh…what a day!! 🙂
    Happy Birthday to you!!

  28. my favorite way is to do things to take care of myself like to go on a walk, get a massage, do some qigong, see a movie, a quiet meal with family (i love brunch any time of day), seeing my daughters…..
    happy birthday!! janita

  29. Last year was a big birthday for me. I turned 40. My husband surprised me with a day in New York City. We played tourist for the day and then saw the show Hairspray on Broadway. It was the best way to spend a special day.

Usually I like a quiet day with family. This is always the best way to spend the day. But last year was fun too.

    Happy Birthday:-)

  30. My fav birthdays are always the quiet ones… good friends, family and silly fun. I think this year I’m going to put in a request for a family canoe trip. Three nights and three days in the bush with the people I love! Canadian much?

Happy of Happiests Sheri and all the best for the year to come.

  31. Happy Birthday! My favorite way to spend my birthday (which is in the spring) is have a day relaxing with my family, biking, hiking and/or walking the dog. Then I like to have a nice cookout and then sit by the fire outside with my hubby. Now how I actually spend my birthdays (when they fall during the week) is another story! 🙂 I am usually working late, coming home to make myself some dinner and kiss the kids right before they are off to sleep. One can dream, can’t they?

  32. My Birthday is in 2 weeks. We will be traveling to San Luis Obisbo, CA to visit and play with our 3 grandkids. I know they will have something planned and whatever it is it will be my favorite way to spend my birthday!

  33. Happy Birthday! It sounds like you have been having a lot of fun already. I hope you had a wonderful day today.
My favorite way to spend my Birthday is to: 1. not be working, 2. have cake with lots o frosting, & 3. do whatever I feel like doing that year (sleep in, breakfast in bed, walk on the beach, shopping, pedicure, family dinner, movie, crafts, hang out and watch movies all day (that was b4 child), etc.).
Mine is towards the end of March and the weather is very unpredictable in Ohio, but many times we are traveling around that time. 🙂

  34. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! WOOHOO! My favorite way to spend my birthday would probably be a full day package at Special Effects Salon & Day Spa. BF got me one last fall, and then babysat the kids while I was gone, and it was wonderful. of course, my birthday is Jan 3, and I’m an accountant, so I will NEVER get my birthday off during the week as we will always be doing the year end close! I have to wait until it falls on a weekend…

  35. I have a little sock like that hanging from my rearview mirror in my car. That little sock swinging around just makes me happy.

I usually don’t do much to celebrate my birthday, but if I get some time with family, get to have lunch with a friend, or a little shopping time, I am perfectly content.

  36. On my birthday I’d love to be out in the wonderful spring air, listening to the birds, watching the kids create & dream, taking in the colors, and lastly a wonderful meal, cake & wine with my family. Once there all in bed some tea and my knitting of course.

  37. Happy Birthday Sheri!

My favorite part of any birthday is talking to far-away loved ones and cakes decorated by the hubby and the kids.

    Enjoy!

  38. Happy Birthday to you!! I hope you are enjoying your day off!

My birthday is in August in the Texas heat so I like to stay inside and either go shopping or find a comfortable place by myself and knit. I love being around my dh and wee one, but I also don’t get very many moments where I’m by myself. It’s nice to just unwind and do something for me.

  39. First of all, Happy Birthday to you,,,
OK that is all, because I don’t want to ruin your B-day with my terrible singing voice.

My “new” way to spend my B-day since my divorce, last year-separated year before, thus “new” is……. I book myself into our local, Inn and Spa. A very lovely place named the Herrington Inn, in Geneva, IL. Lovely rooms, fireplaces, Jacuzzi tubs, overlooking the river. The Spa, means a massage forme. I spoil myself (something I am learning to do and enjoying!)

Hope you enjoyed your day, and you get to celabrate again when College Son comes home!

  40. Happy Birthday!

My favorite way to spend my birthday is taking the day to myself. Just doing whatever I want to whenever I want to. That’s just such a treat.
