Favorite Way to Celebrate Your Birthday CONTEST!

DSC01592.JPGIt has been a very fun week, because every time the mailman comes, he brings something cool. About a month ago, Laura (who, frankly, is now in my “best friend” category. No, we’ve never met. Why?) pointed out to people on the Loopy Groupie board that I had a birthday coming up in a month, and wouldn’t it be fun if people knit me socks? Well, that just about blew my socks off stunned me. I can’t believe people would knit me socks of any kind for my birthday! And then someone suggested that mini socks would be fun, too. (I love mini socks.) So the mailman has been very very good to me this week and you all are just amazing. I’ll show you more photos next week. (And besides socks, I have gotten other fun stuff, too – whee! I’m going to start having two birthdays a year, I think. Although, wait – that would age me twice as fast. Never mind.) Here is a photo of some of the mini socks that have arrived. Aren’t they cute? I think everyone needs a lineup of mini socks. At one time I thought it would be fun to knit a bunch for the mini sock blocker keychains and hang them on my knitting bag. (I have two on there. One knit by me and one knit by my friend Valerie. I still think it would be fun to have more.) Someone once told me that they knit a sock blocker keychain sock to go with each pair of gift socks that they make. Another person said that they knit a sock blocker keychain sock for themselves for every sock yarn they knit up into socks. All cute ideas! (The framed display board? LOVE these. I have a bunch of them. They look especially great when you line three of them up over your couch with family photos on them. This one is in my office . I also think it’d be good to have one in your knitting room with swatches or project ideas or patterns or knitting plans on it. They’re from Creative Memories and if you type in your zipcode, you can find yourself a consultant near you and order online.)

DSC01588.JPGSo tomorrow is my birthday, and I’m taking the day off. (Of course The Elves will be here working on all of your orders.) Besides eating out, my day will include a little shopping, a little chocolate, and a big Venti. Plus time with WH and KD. (Sadly, not College Guy. But I do get to see him later this weekend – yay!) The February Blog Contest Question of the Month is: What is your favorite way to spend your birthday? Leave your answers in the comments below and I’ll draw a name next Wednesday to pick a winner. What is the prize? Something very fun, not yet offered here at The Loopy Ewe because we’ve only received a few of them so far. Aren’t you curious? 🙂

  1. Happy Happy Birthday!!!!

My favorite way to spend my birthday is:
    Sleep late -no work
    Family all together
    Breakfast out
    Knitting
    Reading
    Knitting
    Dinner out
    Birthday Cake

    That’s all 🙂

  2. My perfect birthday would start with being able to sleep in! Then I would knit all day long and have a romantic dinner with my husband. Of course, I would also do something fun with my daughter, like going to the zoo. But we would also have to eat some ice cream!

  3. Oh happy day!
My favorite way to spend my birthday was a gift from my DH.
I attended a sock class with Cat Bordhi, learning about sockitecture~
accompanied with visit to a favorite yarn shop!
What a great day, followed by dinner with family!

  4. Happy Birthday, Sheri!

My birthday is in February also. This year was great. The day before my birthday I spent it at a bead store beading with my beading buddies. On my birthday and the day after was spent knitting with several knitting buddies. What more could I ask for spending time with friends doing my two favorite hobbies.

  5. I love the idea of getting up early and going for a long bike ride. Upon my return, my darling husband usually will have made or will make a great breakfast using involving mimosas. Whatever happens after that varies but it will always involve a family activity as I have three children currently 15, 10 and 9 and I love family time.
And it always involves a buttercream chocolate cake with fresh strawberry filling!

As my birthday is in July, we are sometimes on vacation. No matter what, I will always take the day off from work if we are not out of town.

I hope you had a Happy Birthday! Gotta love those February b-days! My Mom and Hubby also celebrate theirs this month.

  6. Happy birthday Sheri. Hope you have a wonderful day!!!

My favourite way to spend my birthday is to go for a long swim in a quiet pool, then spend the rest of the day at home with my boys- me knitting, them just doing what boys do but more quietly than usual!!!

  7. Happy birthday! I love mini socks, too! (And mini sweaters out of sock yarn…)

My birthday is in March, and my favorite way to spend it is with my mother. Or shopping. Or both!! This year, I’m taking off on vacation over my birthday, so that will be extra fun! I’ll be eating at Red Lobster! YEAAHOO! (The nearest one is 300 miles away… seriously…)

  8. Happy Birthday!

I like to just have the day to myself on my birthday. My husband takes care of our daughter and I can pretty much just relax. We usually go to our favorite family restaurant in the evening. If my birthday falls on a weekday, the following Saturday is mine. 🙂

  9. I think the way I spent my most recent birthday was quite a good one. I may have to try out some other ideas, though… 🙂

    Mine was:

    Invite all friends.
    Spend a full day baking.
Sit in the backyard, in the sun, enjoying baked goodies and friends’ company.
Oh, and unwrapping presents… I like unwrapping. 🙂

  10. Happy Birthday! What a great suprise those little socks must be.

My favorite way to spend my birthday is hanging out with my husband, and then going to dinner with family in the evening. At least that’s the way they tend to go and I enjoy them. My dream birthday would be spent snorkling or scuba diving in warm crystal clear waters around a reef filled with bright tropical fish. Then spending the afternoon relaxing on the deck of a sailboat reading, knitting and enjoying the wind and sun on my face, while drinking a mango dacquiri. Hmmm..I need a vacation! 🙂

  11. Reading and knitting under the shade of the birch tree. The kids bring me iced tea and lunch. Later dinner out with DH and a walk on the beach. Birthdays are fun. Don’t forget to send mother flowers as a thanks for giving you life.

  12. Happy Birthday! Hope you had a great day!!!

My birthday was last weekend and I enjoyed spending the day with my family. They always make me feel very special.

  13. All I ask for for my birthday is to be able to do whatever I want. Really I’d like a quiet day with relaxing, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and of course knitting. But so long as I don’t have to do any work, I’m more than satisfied.

  14. Favorite, let’s see… send my DS on an overnight the night before so I can sleep in 🙂 relax, have lunch out. Do something fun with DH and DS. Nice dinner out. Rule for the day, “no whining!”

  15. My favorite way to spend my birthday would be staying home from work and spending the day in my PJ’s knitting and then going to the bar for a big birthday bash with all my friends and family in the evening.

  16. My favorite way to spend my birthday is with my husband. I would want to go out for a nice dinner and maybe knit as well. Just as long as I was able to spend it with him it would be good. Ideally I’d have the rest of my family (who doesn’t live by me) there as well.

  17. My favorite way to spend my birthday is with close friends and family. A nice dinner out is always fun but it’s being surrounded by the people who care about you that really makes it special.

  18. Happy Birthday! Travelling is my favorite way to spend my birthday – getting on a plane and going to a new city then exploring it, shopping, eating well.

  19. The fav way to spend my birthday? Every year my mother has a birthday party for me. Yes, I know, I’m 48. BUT I love it. Amd i am not the only one she gives a party. Everyone from 1-74 gets at least a cake, card and something special to eat. Of course over the years my sister and I pitch in even is it is our own birthday. But the thought of gathering with family and celebrating another year of life is awesome.

  20. If it’s a work day, I take the day off. Weekend or weekday, I sleep in and go out for breakfast.- nothing like celebrating with a calorie-laden, greasy, artery clogging and darn tasty meal of eggs, bacon/sausage and hash browns! A break from the usual yogurt and fruit. I treat myself to something- the last few years it’s been something knitterly. I go on a search for my favorite ice cream (lemon custard) and usually end up settling for something else. The last few years, I’ve gone out to dinner with a friend whose birthday is also on the same day.

  21. My favorite way to spend my birthday is to keep it simple. I usually spend it with my family and either we all go out to dinner or I can request what I want for dinner (usually it’s mom’s cookin!).

The only bummer is that I don’t get a homemade cake like others in my family because I’m the baker in the family. Maybe I should just make the cake I want for myself? LOL

  22. My sweetie always takes me out for my birthday. It’s always to a nice restaurant, and we have a good time. Otherwise, it’s usually a nice quiet uneventful day.

  23. Happy (belated) Birthday! And I know it was a good one because it was my birthday, too! (I feel a Beatles song coming on, but we really do share a birthday it seems.)

My favorite way to celebrate my birthday is to tell everyone I know and/or meet that it’s my birthday. I find that “Happy Birthday” is one of those phrases that people have trouble saying while frowning. So I get lots of birthday wishes fro lots of smiling people. I also like to use my birthday as an excuse for everything from eating extra chocolate to spending house cleaning time knitting instead to watching what I want on TV. My philosophy is there is one day a year when I should get to indulge just about any whim (as long as it only hurts me 🙂 ), and so I do. Dude, I love my birthday.

  24. My favorite way is to sleep in, go someplace that I usually don’t get to – like the Georgia Aquarium, have dinner with friends and end it with some kind of ultra ice cream treat.

  25. Hope your birthday was wonderful and the coming year a great one!
My favorite way to spend my birthday is to sleep in and then spend the restof the day with my family.

  26. My favorite way to spend my birthday is to do no housework, unfortunately I can avoid not having to go to work. I also enjoy spending the day with my family. This was actually the first year that I got a birthday cake in a very long time. The reason why I got a cake this year? I complained. This past birthday was the best birthday in a very long time. I got to spend it with family (at least in the evening). Very few people at work knew that it was my birthday.

  27. A Super Happy Birthday to you dear.
My fave way to celebrate my birthday is first, have a good cup of coffee, read my emails, then the family comes over and sings and brings presents and cake and we have a good time talking and playing with the kids. Then after everyone leaves, and hubby is settled down with the Wii or tv, I pull out my yarns and needles and knit on something special, just for me. 🙂
    Very special day spent!!!
    Hugs Patt
I hope your day is exactly what you want.

  28. My favorite way to spend my birthday is DEFINITELY with my fiance. We both have birthdays in early September so it’s a thing. Also, I like to go out to dinner to red lobster and just generally get spoiled. 😀

  29. With my family, a good dinner, several quiet moments and cake. A present isn’t necessary for a good birthday but cake is.

  30. For me, it would be a day of shopping and no work (alas, didn’t happen last year as I had started a new job about 2 weeks before) because you can’t do much more in December, eating some home baked cake (from a box…that didn’t happen either) and/or spending time with my family!

  31. A day of shopping at yarn stores (there aren’t any by me so that’s a treat), eating out, drinking cappuccinos, and knitting (undisturbed) of course!

  32. At home all day with my family and no work – no house work, no job, nothing but family and knitting! Then, that night a night out with my best friend. 🙂 Good food, good friends, and lots of fun!

  33. I’m still thinking about the *best* way, but I can start with the worst way: making the decision to euthanize a pet. *sigh* This was my birthday experience this week.

In an effort not to be a total downer, I’ll put my preliminary idea(s) down for “Best Way to Spend Your Birthday”:

    1. Web shopping for PDF pattern downloads (immediate gratification!!!)

    2. Etsy shopping for more patterns, roving and yarn from the indies out there when my known faves (Perchance to Knit, for one!) aren’t in stock at TLE!

    3. Book shopping. *sigh* Especially used bookstores, with a list of books you *really* don’t want to pay online prices for—or have to wait for shipping on!

    4. A dinner out at a restaurant of my choosing. This hasn’t happened yet (see above), so I’m hoping for a delayed-dinner to celebrate. We’ll raise a glass to little Maya during the meal.

    5. Depending on how….aged I’m feeling, a quick stop in at Sally’s Beauty Supply for some Clairol hair coloring to pump up the fading color in my hair. (What was once jet-black is now silver-and-lighter-brown. *sigh*)

Happy birthday to you too! Us February babies have the best month of them all!

    Anne.

  34. I think my favorite iway to spend my birthday is just spending time with my girls, reading, playing, etc. Nothing is better than the sweet hugs, kisses, and I love you’s that they give. 🙂

  35. I love to take the day off work and just stay hom for the day, with WH bringing me everything that strikes my fancy! Then he takes me to dinner at a favorite place (it changes from year to year) and then back home for movie time with the kiddos.

  36. Happy Belated Birthday Sheru!
My favorite way to spend my birthday isn’t confined to one thing, I try to just be more aware throughout the day. To focus on the many blessings I have in my life and think about all the people who have influenced me. As I get older I am just so grateful to be here,to have people to love and to be loved. Grandma always said-any day you put two feet on the floor is a good day. When I keep that as my starting point I always have great days.

  37. We have started a tradition with the “girls” in my family – my sister, 2 nieces and my daughter, where we all go out to eat on our birthdays. The nieces and my daughter are grown now (daughter is 18 and nieces are late 20’s and 30) and it is a good way to touch base and catch up on things. I love that time together and we all look forward to it. Other than that, I have started trying to take the day off of work too, although birthdays are special in my office – co-workers bring treats for birthdays in the units and it is a fun day at work too.

  38. My favorite birthday would be: sleeping until 9, pancakes and really good coffee for breakfast, a visit to the zoo (preferably with the toddlers in my life) and the rest of the day spent with family, capped off with dinner and the all important DQ ice cream cake. Sadly – my birthday is the middle of August and I’m an athletic trainer, which means that my birthday is during two-a-days and I therefore spend at least 12 hours at work, in 80-90 degree heat every year on my birthday. But someday….

  39. My favorite way to spend my birthday (celebrated earlier this month) is to have a “Do-Anything-You-Want-to Day”. Didn’t happen this year, as I had to work, and sat at the computer writing all day. 🙂

  40. My birthday is in early May and is also usually the weekend of the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival. I take a bus up with other knitters and spend the day looking at sheep, eating lamb and fondling fibers. Isn’t it nice for them to throw such a knitting extravaganza just for me!!!!

  41. the only way i celebrate my birthday is in bed with the covers over my head trying to avoid the curse. something bad, weird, or dangerous always happens on my birthday (july 18th, consider youself warned). and it always rains. this last birthday, i woke up to a record-breaking thunderstorm that hit my area (the northeast–once again, consider yourself warned) and my next door neighbor’s garage, with her brand-new volvo in it, got hit by lightning. it is a really long horrible story, ultimately involving me having to wade thru 2 feet of flooded paddock, to get her 5 horses out of harm’s way and onto higher ground, and the volvo didn’t survive.
so my favorite thing to do on my birthday is to plan something fun for the day after my birthday, assuming i live thru it, that is.

  42. My favorite way to spend my birthday is waking up late, in bed with my husband and all three kitties. Huge breakfast. That evening, a small gathering of my closest friends. That’s ideal.

  43. My favorite way to spend my birthday is when it falls on a weekend (no work!) and having a nice dinner of my choice. Yums!

  44. I vote for breakfast/brunch out, and staying home. Prosecco also adds to birthday fun, for those so inclined.

  45. Happy belated birthday Sheri! My favorite way to spend my birthday is to 1) not be at work…I always take the day off so I can have a “Phoebe” day and 2) we go out to dinner at my favorite restaurant with my favorite food…Samurai Blue for sushi.

  46. My birthday is Dec. 31st. so I am always at some party somewhere by days end. In the morning though my children make me breakfast in bed and then we cuddle in bed together for awhile. Then the day is usually spending time with my family. There is one rule though for the day. My girls are not allowed to fight at all and when I say HUG, they have to hug each other and say “We love you mommy”. It’s a beautiful thing.

  47. My best birthday would be taking the day off work and spending it in the kitchen…but not like everyday cooking. I would have all day to make jams and jellies, slowcook stew or chili, bake fresh bread and desserts. In the downtime I would knit a pair of socks just for me in a yarn that would totally bust my budget!
