Three Things Friday

DSC01256.JPGThree things that I have been doing today instead of blogging:

1. Admiring my adorable “Loopy goes Trick or Treating” Woolpet that the amazing Laurie sent me as a gift. (Zoe thoughtfully gave him a little poke for good measure.)
2. Shopping for necessities for the new Loopy Office.
3. Setting up deliveries, making appointments, and scheduling moving help.

Three things that the Loopy Elves did today:

1. Packed up all your orders and got them out without me. ๐Ÿ™‚
2. Set up an obstacle course of boxes for me to dodge in the Loopy Room. I’m sure they did all of that arranging on purpose.
3. Stacked 10 newly arrived cases of yarn in my front entry (because why carry them down to the Loopy room when we’ll be carrying them back out on Monday?)

Three decisions I made today:

1. The little kitchenette in the new Loopy office needed a Loopy red microwave. (Who knew there were red microwaves??)
2. The sign for the new building needs Loopy on there. You’re right.
3. I “needed” a pumpkin scone to go with my latte today. Big errand day.

So you can see that things are a bit one-tracked around here – all revolving around the big move next week. Thanks so much for your fun and encouraging emails, phone calls, and blog comments about it! We’ll work hard to get things back up and running asap, because I know you’re going to love all of this new yarn that keeps arriving. In the meantime, here is my first recipe from my Colorado weekend of good food.

DSC01231.JPGDawn’s Dressing

1 1/2 cups cubed whole wheat bread
3 3/4 cups cubed white bread
1 lb. ground sage turkey sausage
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
2 1/2 tsp. dried sage
1 1/2 tsp. dried rosemary
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1 Golden Delicious apple, chopped
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1/3 cup minced fresh parsley
3/4 cup chicken broth
4 Tbl. unsalted butter, melted

Spread bread cubes in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake 5-7 minutes in preheated 350 degree oven until toasted. Put in the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.

Cook sausage and onions over medium heat. Add celery and seasonings and stir for 2 minutes.

Pour sausage mix over bread. Add apples, cranberries and parsley. Drizzle with chicken broth and melted butter and mix lightly.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Three things I will have to show you next week:

1. The socks that I finished in Colorado that I forgot to photo for you.
2. A peek at the mess we’re sure to make in the new Loopy room.
3. An unbelievably wonderful pumpkin dessert recipe from my friend Christy.

  1. OK this may be hard to believe but I don’t think I have ever eaten a scone. I may have to fix that .
I think you should have a Latte a day. If I didn’t have to drive across town to get one, I probably would.
I can’t wait to see the pictures of the new socks, and the new Loopie home.

  2. Oh, yeah, lattes all around. Baby, it’s cold outside!

Good luck with the move!! I’ll be thinking of you…wish BFF Sarah and I could help you pack. Mmm…yarn petting! Wonder how much yarn her trunk can hold….

My cats thoroughly approve of the latest Loopy package that came in the mail. Elsie will do anything for tissue paper, and Clara (who is afraid of just about everything) actually licked and head-butted the Shibui Knits yarn. I am all astonishment.

Hugs and good wishes from Chicago! Just make sure to take care of yourself this week, OK–get plenty of sleep and take regular meal breaks.

  3. Good luck with the move. Hopefully it will be more exciting than stressful. Do you think the post office is going to cry now that you will have more space for more yarn which means more orders and more boxes? I think they should start stocking up on boxes now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy moving and happy lattes to you.

  4. Oooh – can’t wait to see pics. ๐Ÿ™‚

Three not-entirely-unrelated things from my day:
    1. It’s cool enough that I wore my Blue Terra Cotta Monkey socks today.
    2. You’ve enticed me into the world of Peppermint Lattes. Good thing Starbucks is in the opposite direction from my office.
    3. My 4 year old thinks he might wear a sweater if I knit one. He probably won’t, but I’ll knit one anyway.

  5. Good luck with the move!

    My three things:
    1. I need to step up the socks, hats, scarves, and Christmas presents! It was +2F this morning, and is now +36.
    2. Since I don’t like my coffee warm (yes, I’m strange, apparently!), I’ll get either a Peppermint Mocha Frappucino, or an Orange Mocha Frap. MMMmmm!
    3. We have a place here that makes the moistest scones! My favorites are cranberry-orange, and maple walnut! Maybe we’ll get some tomorrow!

    Have a great weekend!

  6. Hi Sheri, Hope that the move goes very smooth. That really is a lot of work, but it sure will be worth it. If I had to move with just my yarn and knitting things and books I’d be frantic. Have a good, well try, week. Hope you do not let yourself get over tired. I will be thinking of you. Wish I could help. Hugs

  7. Good luck with the move and I’m glad Loopy’s name will be in lights…I mean on the sign. Can’t wait to see pictures of the new Loopy Room.

    Three things?
    1) Work more on Christmas items and less on things for me.
    2) The weather went from 92 degrees on Wednesday to 58 on Thursday, I love to wear sweaters and sweatshirts. And it’s more fun to knit when the weather is cooler.
    3) I need to go and get a pumpkin scone this weekend. That sounds good…

    Have a great weekend. Kristi

  8. Sheri! You must convince Laurie to make a few Loopy Goes Trick or Treating kits for us!!! I love it!!! And great picture with Zoe. You definitely need at least one latte a day next week. Good luck with the move. Look forward to seeing pictures of the new Loopy Room!

  9. Hmm, three things…

    1. Kohls has some very cute toddler pajamas on sale right now. Ladybug has 3 new pairs. None with sheep, though.
    2. Ladybug pooped in the tub during her bath tonight. At least Hubby helped by putting her new jammies on her while I cleaned up.
    3. It’s ‘Tocktober, but my cat’s won’t cooperate by giving me a good picture of all their butts lined up.

Has the weather finally cooled down over there? We’re in the 60’s now!

  10. Good Luck with your move this weekend! Can’t wait to see the sign with Loopy on it.

3 Things I’m doing this weekend?

    1) Raking leaves – so my son can jump in them and scatter them even more ๐Ÿ™‚
    2) Knit on a new cardigan and start a pair of Austerman socks,
    3) Make a lasagna meal for a family that just lost their husband/dad

I will anxiously await the new yarn & photos.

  11. Definitely a latte kind of week! Moving is always a big chore!

    Three things…

    1. Tomorrow I’m meeting a friend at Starbucks for tea and knitting time. I can’t WAIT!!!
    2. I love ankle socks…..who knew they only took a few days to make!?
    3. I reallyreallyreally wish my son’s teeth would come in so that I could get a decent nights sleep for a change.

  12. Hmm, 3 things around here this weekend:
    1) our newspaper said it was really cold this morning, so we all need for figure out how to save money with the extra natural gas we will need for a cold winter? Ok, it’s time to get knit faster? I want to get started on making a pair of fingerless mitts. I am thinking about Fetching with my new Claudia’s Sport Spring Frost yarn that came from you this week.
    2) My guys were having fun playing with the leaf blower this afternoon, after school. I am afraid to look to see if they canceled out each other’s “work”.
    3) It is Homecoming Weekend for our high school, so my youngest son is tied up tonight and tomorrow night with activities to do with that. And, my guys are going to the annual Curling Open House this weekend. It will be quiet around here. Some of that is good, but a lot of it gets lonesome. I wish I could get out some, but, alas, that is not going to happen anytime this soon, with my wings’ being clipped.

I send you my very best wishes on your Loopy move! I hope you all have good weather, not too hot, but definitely no rain! And, I hope you all are careful with your lifting, as hurt backs are not fun at all! Take care & have fun!

  13. Take care and have fun with the move this coming week, and definitely take time out for a latte or three!LOL Can’t wait to see pics of the NEW AND IMPROVED Loopy room!

What I am doing this weekend?
    1. Working on hubby’s socks – the weather is finally starting to cool down a LITTLE here, so his cold feet will need some wool socks soon!
    2. Getting completely caught up with my work for a change…such a nice feeling!
    3. Rest and relax a little…I don’t get to do that too often!

  14. Three things I am going to do this weekend????

    1. KNIT SOCKS
    2. Go to a spinning group for the first time, I am researching a wheel.
    3. I guess I probably have to do laundry too YUCK!!!!!!

Anybody with good advice on spinning wheels please leave a comment on my blog.

  15. Three things I have (intend) to do this weekend:
    1. Finish my third daughter’s Christmas socks. I only have the foot on the second sock left. I must get this done before I can do #2.
    2. Decide on a pattern for (and begin working on) 10 skeins of beautiful forest green heathered alpaca dk weight yarn I have in a basket beside my desk. I’m thinking of a cardigan, for myself this time. Anyone have any suggestions?
    3. Prepare for teaching my classes next week (i.e. read lots of Latin). Unfortunately, I guess I have to do this before numbers 1 and 2.

And one more thing: Sheri, I think you will definitely need more scones to go with the lattes in order to keep up your energy for all that moving. It’s hard work, and think of all the exercise involved!

  16. Just 3?
    1. Try to get through the heel on #2 Pheasant Run sock.
    2. Finish clue #2 of the Secret of the Stole.
    3. Try to get 4 more inches done on a cashmere scarf for a dear friend for Christmas.
4, 5, 6… Hope that when Beth from The Spinning Loft gets back from SOAR this weekend, my new Majacraft Rose will be waiting for her to put together so I can pick it up and bring it home.
Oh, and somewhere in there I’ll be scouting for Zoe toys.

  17. I smelled something “fishy” a few blog updates ago!! I said “Sheri can’t be inviting all of us to the Loopy Room when we come for the Sock Retreat” Her neighbors would see the busloads of knitters busting down her door and call the police!! The nice, big building has plenty of room for all of us so we can enter “Heaven–(The Loopy Room”) in the Spring!! I think she’ll have to give out numbers so that we enter in an orderly fashion! ๐Ÿ™‚ Congratulations–an exciting time for Loopy and the gang. You deserve all the success–we love you!
Three things I’m doing this weekend–
    1. Packing for the hospital–I’m having my knee replaced on Monday!
    2. Trying to narrow down the knitting I’m bringing with me—starting socks on #6 needles/worsted weight. If I drop one of those needles in the hospital bed–it might not get lost!
    3. Eating some good food before I go! At least I’m having the surgery at the same hospital I work in so that my co-workers can bring me “real” coffee from the outside!

  18. A weekend that is a lot busier now than it was this time yesterday.

    1. Three hours’ work on daughter’s sets for “Les Miserables”…twice. Make dinner for CG#1 and girlfriend for Saturday. Make fresh sourdough for dinner with friends Sunday night. Make it to church…twice. Do traveling dh’s laundry. Iron. Ew.
    2. Finish garter rib socks for db’s Christmas. Start hats for CG#1, CG#2, and dh.
    3. Breathe?!?

  19. My three things:

    1. We are going to the zoo this weekend. (so glad it’s not 90 degrees out anymore!)

    2. I love scones. Any scones.

    3. I plan to knit on the way to and from the zoo!

    bonus:
That Halloween Loopy is so cute I can’t stand it!

  20. Three things I did today…

    1. Opened an awesome shipment of yarn from TLE!
    2. Finished a knit shawl I thought I’d never finish.
    3. Cast on for a scarf.

  21. O yeah scones. We have this little place called LaBou’s that has wonderful scones..I love the raspberry. Also this tea place called Afternoon to Remember..they have great scones they serve with lemon curd & clotted cream..are you salivating yet? YUMMMIEEE!!!! I am making socks from the W. VA yarn for my husband, his home state. Hope you get Ky yarn back sometime soon. Have fun moving..with I could help!

  22. Interesting move development. It might be STL instead of KC. So I said to Tattoo Boyfriend “hey, my FAV VYS is moving into a shop shop and they may have some hours. Good for them, he says. And then he realized what that would mean. And I think he is scared of the yarn.

  23. No scones, but maybe if I can find my apples, Pie!

    Three things hmmm…
    1. I’d like to find some time this weekend to dye roving for my etsy shop.
    2. I need to finish spinning/plying some yarn.
    3. I need to knit my sister’s fingerless mitts and tulip baby sweater asap. She wants to give the sweater as a gift and the baby is due in 4 weeks!

Have a good move, and can’t wait till you guys are settled and the next sneak up!

  24. I knew there were red microwaves — I bought one! Thought it was so cute and a great accent for my kitchen! Now…I want a red KitchenAid mixer!

And thanks Sheri, for getting the Peacock shawl going. Redford Phyl was so disappointed with her LYS and mentioned she’d just keep shopping with “Sheri.” I suggested she ask if YOU could get the pattern and VOILA!

  25. Loopy Goes Trick Or Treating is just too darn cute!

    My three things:
    1. make muffins (although scones sound tempting, I haven’t had a decent scone since my English friend here moved away…)
    2. do laundry (boring, but necessary)
    3. rearrange the stash (i.e., hide some skeins) so my husband stops telling me I have to knit up all of this yarn before I can buy some more (talk about unclear on the concept)!

Take it easy with the move, Sheri, especially the heavy lifting!

  26. Three things I learned today …
    1. respect power tools (luckily just a graze — and no-one was home to raise a fuss about it, so I got on with the job at hand)
    2. cheap red wine opened for the spaghetti sauce can be drinkable ๐Ÿ˜‰
    3. honey _can_ replace some of the sugar in jam — the new batch of plum & honey jam I cooked up today is honey-rific!

I’m so glad you’re going to put up a sign. What fun!

  27. 1. I’ve caught my kids cold just in time for weekend… which means… Hub’s in charge and I’m resting… aka knitting.

    2. Because of you I’ve been having more pumpkin lattes than I should. But boy are they yummy! I never tried them before. I have not touched the scones and am staying away! Yes I am. Less scones = more yarn. (and less booty)

    3. I placed my “groupie” order #6 this week! It’s kind of ridiculous how excited I am about it. I actually blushed telling my husband about it. He said “You’re kind of a knitting nerd.” Me… “I know… but you love me. AND you love your socks.” Him “True.”

  28. Hi Sheri. Hope you manage to have some relaxation this weekend- it sounds like you are going to be very busy next week.

Hope the move goes well- congratulations on the expansion. You must be so proud. For me this weekend means lots of time taking my big boy to ballet rehearsal for ashow in 5 weeks time. He is very excited and working very hard. The downside is lots of driving for, the upside is waiting time knitting socks. I have just cast on my first toe-up pair in seacoast panda, and they are lovely!!!

You definitely need lots of lattes!!!!!

    Hugs

    Fiona

  29. Three things I am going to do today:
1.) finish knitting a design of my own for myself for the first time. (usually the samples go away and I move onto the next thing. I am changing that.)
2.) buy a wood stove for my living room before I go insane or freeze to death or both.
3.) visit a friend’s winery and sip a little and buy a little.

Three things I am hoping I can sneak in while Mr. Wonderful’s back is turned:
1.) a cilantro lime bowl with blackened chicken – this should be relatively easy.
2.) a latte of my own, from a local coffee roaster – decaf, skim, mocha latte with three shots. This may be nearly impossible, unless I remind him that they have the only flavored coffee he likes – toasted coconut cream
3.) a case of the wine, instead of just a couple bottles. Support Local Agriculture!!

  30. WOW I haven’t checked the blog in a week and you are moving!! That will be nice to have your home all back again, but what will you do about late nate yarn cravings?
My DS2 has a redmicrowave in his dorm room, it is more burgundy and is his school color. It is very cool….
Best of luck with the move….more yarn for fondling in the spring perhaps??

  31. Good luck on the move this next week. I agree the Halloween Loopy is adorable, or should I say frightenly adorable.

    Three thingsfor this weekend…
    Ohio State football

Knitting, of course. I have the first toe and 2 pattern repeats done on my Firestarter socks. I am not a fan of the short row toe and wish it were done in a different way. However I do usually try to do the first pair according to the instructions. The second, well, that is another story.

Cleaning out my pantry so that I can put away the summer’s booty, stewed tomatoes. Jars and jars of stewed tomatoes. The look so pretty on the counter, but they must go into the pantry and to do that will require a major intervention.

Oh yes, and a latte for me and a new book for my youngest grandaughter, at Borders. They have some awesome coffees and pastries also, in addition to another of my addicitions, reading material of all kinds.

Have a great and productive weekend.

  32. I think you should be able to have a scone a day during moving week! Heck you’ll probably burn it off in a few minutes that week!

I love the little Halloween Loopy too, I think I may need something like that for my office desk. (Too bad there aren’t little Rotweillers, I would so stock up on those).

  33. Three things I will do this weekend:
    1. Go to the Knit-Out at my local Borders!!

    2. Have breakfast with a very dear friend

    3. Finish the socks I am working on

Got my Loopy order yesterday and I am so thrilled!! Sheri, you and Loopy elves are awesome! Congrats on the new Loopy room.

  34. Hi Sheri! Congrats on the new digs, I’m sure more room will come in very handy. I think a PSL a day is a good thing. You’ve only got, what, until Thanksgiving or so before they go by the wayside for another year?

Three things (or more?) I’m doing this weekend —

    1) making my quilted table runners (the quilting bug bit me hard)
    2) knitting on the mystery stole 3 and the autumn leaves throw
    3) weaving rugs
    4) making an apple crisp dessert
    5) going fishing today for probably the last time this fall

    I knew I couldn’t keep it to three …

    ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheer!

  35. OOOOH!

I knew there were red microwaves! Red is my favorite color and I tried to talk Buddy Bill into a red one for his place! ๐Ÿ™‚

Three things I’m doing this weekend?
    1. Cleaning the bathrooms.
    2. Hugging and smooching my son who has just returned from a week at outdoor education with his 6th grade class.
    3. Taking pictures of the fall leaves.

  36. Please don’t limit yourself to ONE latte a day…moving survival may sometimes require TWO! Congratulations on the new space. This is going to be wonderful for you — work is work and now home again will be home. And I bet you will have a lot of shopping visitors stopping to check out the yarn and then buy, buy, buy. If I lived closer I’d be one of the first! Best wishes to you. My 3 weekend things:
    1. Going to the Penn State/Wisconsin football game on Saturday
    2. Hosting my niece’s bridal shower on Sunday — I’d better get the rest of the food made
    3. Taking photos of my Golden Retrievers in the Fall leaves

  37. You go girl! All the best Sheri, with your move. As a business owner myself, I know the stresses of moving, and the excitement that goes with it. Take it all in stride, what a great accomplishment to be able to need larger premises!! Have a great weekend, and if you need a few extra lattes, I am sure that Starbucks will not blink an eye!! (wink, wink)

  38. How fun…a red microwave! Guess you can tell I don’t get around much any more. But I did have a pumpkin scone this week with maple icing – naturally with a latte from Peet’s Coffee. You probably won’t have much time for baking, but thought I’d send you my cakey scone recipe…I’ll try to adapt for pumpkin…in the meantime, it I make it with blueberries or orange cranberry or just about anything…and it is absolutely lo-calorie, which is the best!

    ICING:
    1/2 cup powdered sugar

“Every bit as delicious as those of Barefoot Contessa that have 1/2 # butter and whipping cream!!!”

    Three things:

    1. We had rain yesterday…made osso buco with some lamb shanks. Delish! Puerto Rican black bean soup on the stove today for football-watching tomorrow.

    2. On ribbing of second sock of pair right now. Will start a new pair with the Regia autum herb that I just got from you. I had to order third skein as I’m making these in a large size. I frogged the first sock I had nearly finished when I realized I didn’t have enough yarn…then I found that you still had it. Hooray!

    3. Trip up to the foothills (and maybe Apple Hill) on Monday (which is our second day of weekend, since my I tutor two students and DH works on Saturday.) So, I see apple scones in our future.

Good luck on the move, Sheri. We’ll be sending virtual help.

    Joan

  39. I’m excited about the move and yes Loopy has to be on the sign.
    Three things:
    1. Bath Chester (our cat, don’t him he thinks he is human). He got out last week and came back in with fleas.
    2. Finish socks I’m knitting and start 2 pair for our church’s fall festival.
    3. Do some more campaigning. I’m running for the Board of Supervisors in our county.
Good luck with the move next week, hope you have lots of strong backs.

  40. Congrats on the new digs. I’d so help you pack and move if I was anywhere nearby. (DTW to STL-still a 2.5 hour flight…) And I’m glad Loopy will be on the sign. She deserves all the fame she has so rightly earned. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Three knitterly things:
    1. Photo Loopy Loot that arrived yesterday for my Ravelry stash page (planetKnit over there if anyone wants to say ‘hi’)
    2. Start Thuja socks for brother’s xmas gift.
    3. Start something for myself out of the…the…the…Decisions, decisions. Could it be the Lorna’s Laces Miata? Could it be the Gypsy Girl Trick or Treat? Could it be the Scarlet Fleece Favorite Jeans? Could it be the Fiesta Alaska? Or could it be something solid to show off the detail in the Karen’s Socks pattern by Monica Knits? (Had to have the pattern with my name in it!)

    Three scholarly things:
    1. Homework
    2, Homework
    3. And more homework.

This going to school as an adult after the kid has flown the coop is for the birds! But fun. And worth it in the end.

So, the knitterly things will be squeezed in between the scholarly things, and work. (Yes, there’s always work…gotta get a Loopy budget from *somewhere*.)

  41. Love the Halloween Woolypet!!! How hard are those to make. I almost bought one the other day, but then I chickened out thinking I might just make a mess. They look SO Cute!!! I really want to make a “cute” one.

  42. Congratulations on the new space! Glad you decided to have Loopy on the sign. That will make folks smile. Sorry Zoe can’t go with you, but she’ll enjoy the stories you have to tell when you come home.

    Let’s see, 3 things:

    1) Love the Loopy Halloween version! I so have to dig my kit out and learn how to needle felt.
    2) I am almost finished with my first shawl. It’s not perfect, but hey, what is. It is handmade and should still look pretty darn good (once I figure out how to block it).
    3) I am still slowly recoverying from surgery and looking forward to being able to swallow bread again by Thanksgiving (I hope). Did you know McDonald’s has pumpkin pie milkshakes back – major YUM!

  43. 1. I had a pumpkin spice latte for you yesterday! Totally justified it by saying “Sheri needs this”
    2. Where else but in Boston do major poets publish baseball poems in the newspaper? (see today’s Boston Globe, The Poet Goes to Fenway)
    3. The knitting community is such an awesome place. I am so grateful for all my cyber knitting pals.

  44. I’m just back from a business trip to hot and sticky Miami. Three non-business things I did there?
    1. Drank as many iced chai lattes at S.bucks as I could fit in
    2. Shopped at several of my favorite stores (including Sephora – mmmm)
    3. Had major chunks of knitting time on the plane and in airports, and spread the gospel of sock-knitting far and wide! And finished two (different) socks, including one wollmeise and one DIC), plus made good progress on my second mini-monkey in ATH.

Good luck with the big move!

  45. Only 1 latte/day? I’d think 2 or 3 would be acceptable during a stressful move, and a scone to go with it! Careful with the heavy lifting – we don’t want any injuries!

    Three things for this weekend:
    (1) Knitting!! Grafted a toe to finish off one pr of socks & cast on 1st sock for a new pair, using Yarn Nerd that I picked up from the previous shipment. Knit the cuff & 1st 9-row repeat of pattern (RPM from Knitty). I’m really liking this yarn so far! Soft & springy – I just might have to grab another skein (or 2?) when the next batch comes in!
    (2) More knitting! Work on throw pillow covers for holiday presents for 4 friends. Only on the 1st one now, so I’ve got to discipline myself to work on this project, because it’s not as much fun as socks!
    (3) Taking daughter to see The Bodies Exhibition since I promised I would before it even opened months ago, & today’s the last day! (Just bought the tix online, now we just need to get ourselves together & out the door!)
And a fourth: laundry. (Ugh! Might need a latte to get me through that!)

My thoughts will be with you & the Loopy Movers during the week! Congrats again!!
