I’m going to just start the week off with an apology. I know I’m going to put you over the edge this week with the Sneak Up and …. well, I’m sorry. There are way too many beautiful colors and yarns and choices and I have no idea how you’re going to decide which ones need to come home to live with you. How do I know this? Because I took too many of them out this week to put in my own stash. That’s how I know. I didn’t plan it this way. We always have so many things on order that I am never sure exactly what will show up week to week. This week – too many good choices. (What’s going up? Well, Yarn Pirate, Perchance to Knit, Seacoast Panda, and all of the lace yarns. Overload.) So I hope you enjoy browsing and shopping and know that I feel your pain. (Zoe advises everyone to just take a nap, while awaiting this week’s Sneak Up. Honest – you can see her mid-sentence in the photo.)
I wanted to answer a couple of blog questions – one was, “What is a Sneak Up?” That simply refers to us putting new yarns and products on the website each week. Once in awhile I will re-stock yarns and coloways as the UPS gal brings them, but most of the time I do all of the updating at once, each week. The time and day change from week to week, just because I have learned that it helps make for a more pleasurable shopping experience if not everyone has planned to be on here shopping at the same exact time. 🙂 Although it’s kind of funny to watch how quickly the word gets out when the Sneak Up has taken place. I think some of you take turns monitoring the site for your whole knitting group, based on what I have heard and seen! (Personally? I’d place my own order and then go spread the word!) Another question is about The Loopy Ewe Seasonal Sock Club and whether or not we still have spots available. The answer is unfortunately, no. Our sock club sold out overnight and ended up being 3 times bigger than I expected, so we’re definitely full this year! However, we would sure love to have you sign up next year and I will give plenty of notice for that. I already have some fun things in mind for the next one. The last question: Why did the numbers go away under your different website categories? Well, because that is one of the things that slows the website down when so many of you are shopping at once. However, with our move to a bigger server and a little re-vamping by Web Guy, we were able to put them back up and we don’t think they will affect the speed to much from now on.
Speaking of fun things – let’s do the April Blog Contest. Tell me your favorite color combination for socks. Not the brand, not the weight, not the price – just tell me what 2-5 colors would make up your very favorite colorway. (And if you want to add “best name for a sock colorway ever”, I think that would be fun, too.) My favorite sock color combination would be hunter, cranberry and mocha. Although I’m fairly certain that after I read your entries, I will have changed my mind a few times. Best sock name ever? The one that is on the Loopy Ewe Summer Sock Club yarn – it’s too fun! Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll use the random number generator to pick a winner next Monday, the 30th for the winner of a fun Loopy Loot package. (And maybe we’ll turn some of your favorite color combinations into new colorways here!) I think maybe I ought to go through more of WH’s flower photos for some good color combo ideas.
Sheri IstartedknittingmylaceshawlthisweekendwithHandMaidenSeaSilk&loveit!
My favorite colorway is mostly black, with smaller segments of silver, cerulean blue and a light violet. I think I’d call it Cosmo.
My favorite colorway would be a gentle lavender, light sage green and off-white…all knitted in a lace pattern.
My favorite (at least right now!) is a range of deep purple through lavendar with some blue/green and cream mixed in. I have a summer dress with those colors that I love. I’d call it Sock Island Escape.
Brown and blue!
My dream colorway is shades of mint green, cream, and chocolate. I would call it Mint Chocolate Chip, of course 🙂
Im a tradiotionlist as said traditionlist like things the proper way – there fore I dont think anyone can go past the classic combination of greatness
bright orange and lime green ( would be even better if it had sparkles!).
and Im partial to a choclate brown and rasberry red/pink as well ( roll on my mothers day robe)
name wise I like yumma licious/ sock a licious – esp for a choclate and rasberry one
I’ve been thinking of a pink, lime green, and white color scheme for awhile. And I would call it MiaBunny because that’s my nickname and those are the colors that I think of when I think of me. Lime green is kind of my signature color – from my Beetle to my purse.
My favorite sock colors are purples and greens with a little bit of white.
Let’s see, for a name – how about Violets. That’s one of my favorite flowers.
I would love to see turquoise and white with dashes of yellow and pink. I’d call it Sanibel, to remind me of a great trip me and my love took a couple years ago.
For awhile I was on a huge pink/brown phase, but now I’m digging reds and blues, so I’d say sky blue, cherry red, a hint of orange, and a darker blue. I’d call it “the boys” after my kids:-) Maybe I need to get the kool-aid out this week!
Dude. I could totally print off these comments as a menu for my next Dyeing Insanity Day(s). Hellooooo fabulous!
Lately, my whole world has been aqua and red. And I realize that means I’m about a year behind te other crafty mavens. But between that and the coral color that’s STEALING MY SOUL….I’m soooo predictable lately.
I do wish I could find the exact combination of blue and green to make something the same shade as the water at Cape Perpetua, Oregon, though. Maybe with a little of the palest blue thrown in like sea spray and whitecaps, and some of the deep brownish-black of the rocks up thataway.
Can you tell I’m homesick? 🙂
Zoe looks a lot like my little Snowshoe!
I love the calico and the white combo 🙂
My daughter named her that because she’s a polydactyl and looks like she’s wearing snowshoes. She has little mittens in the front with her SIX toes on each foot….and six nails to go with (murder on my yarn). She also has one back foot with 6 nails and one with 5.
ps Apparently, knittymama (the comment above mine, posted at about the same time) and I share a brain.
No wonder it gets a little empty in this skull sometimes. Must be the days she’s got custody. 🙂
My favorit colorway would be Pink, light and dark with teal in light and dark with a few other bright colors mixed in. Happiness might be a good name. Or maybe I need to look at some Opi nail polish and steal one of their very creative names.
If you hadn’t noticed by my past orders, if it has pink in it and it has bright happy colors, then i’ve bought it.
Are you getting any more of the Zen String Bloom colorway? I rally need two more skeins so I can do a pair of pedicure socks and a scarf. I’m working on regular socks now and just love the colors.
Thanks for all the great yarn and I guess I need to check your sight a couple of times a day so I won;t miss out on the next sneak up.
Definitely cranberry and navy blue — perhaps even with a subtle blend of lighter shades of blue and lighter shades of cranberry. Probably couldn’t tell those are “my colors” given some of my yarn purchases not to mention the colors of my blog, lol! : ) I’d call it “Patch of Berries.”
Sage green, cranberry and lemon yellow. That’s the color of my library.
I’d like a beautiful cream mixed with something “sparkly” and I’d call it
“Sunshine on Snow”
My favorite color combination is navy and terra cotta. Nothing looks sharper to me than a pretty white blouse, blue jeans and a terra cotta colored shawl. My name for this yarn would “love my levi’s”. Hope I win because the 30th is my birthday!
What a fantastic weekend we had! Weather was too perfect. Sat on the back deck with the cats and knit! Talk about great!
Deep cobalt blue, royal purple, and teal or turquoise, with accents of fuschia. (That, plus black and white, is 95% of the colors you see when you open my closet.) However, since “Castiron Closet” is a pretty boring and meaningless name, I’d call it “Royalty”.
I think peach, aqua and mint would be a very gorgeous color for sock yarn and I’d want to call it Lexi in honor of my darling feline daughter. lol
I think my fave would be a deep pink, plum, and brown with a little green thrown in, and I’d probably call it “Heatherfoot.” My gran was from Scotland and constantly talked about those fields of heather.
Oooh, this is fun.
Actually, I just this morning ordered a custom colorway from Yarn Nerd. I requested a combination of Smoky Rose, Smoky Blue, Smoky Purple, Burgundy, and Periwinkle. Think I’m going to call it Blue Ridge Mountain Flowers.
I’ve been looking for a yarn that captures the feel of this picture for months. Probably I’d never find anything I’d be satisfied with. This is a wall quilt! Someday maybe I’ll have the means to drop $5K on art, but I’m not seeing it in this lifetime.

I don’t pay too much attention to names, it’s just the colors that call to me.
Oh, Your Hunter, Cranberry and mocha would be better with a splash of a teal/turquoise just here and there. Not much, just a tiny bit for some extra zip.
Without question my favorite color combo: yellow, orange, and pink. Hmmm…. sock name?… how bout: beach blanket bingo.
Hmm I am ready for skeins from everyone! They all sound like my favorite. Heck it’s sock yarn, so that makes sense 🙂
I like purple brown and green together. Autumn forest.
But then there is green purple white to honor the crocus that bloomed today. Spring crocus.
And for this time of year for us in upstate NY, pink, white and brown for Tulip Tree.
Oooh, pink and chocolate! Or turquoise and chocolate, with white.
I’d pick
navy–>purple–>fuschia–>tangerine–>banana
and call it “Just Another Tequila Sunrise”.
Or, anything with purple, fuschia and teal.
I love taupe and cremes together and then lime and pink!
grey, maroon, and a deep chocolate brown.
I keep wavering on maroon or with purple.. A good friend dyed my sock yarn with the grey/purple/brown it’s yummy!!
I don’t know a good name for it yet.
My favorite combination: periwinkle/fern green/kiwi green – colors of wild violets that bloom in the woods!
I would really like a sock yarn in shades of gray, green, blue, and blue-green … like the colors of the ocean.
have you read the Chronicles of Narnia? I’m reading the Horse and His Boy now, and the descriptions of the hilltop city of Tashbaan really makes my imagination explode! I’d name a color “Bustling Bazaar,” and fill it with creamy linen grey, rich coffee brown, deep blue, with a few long strips of brilliant golden orange to represent the swaths of colorful embroidered silk…!
Off to read. I think I’ve finished this one twenty times, though my all-time favorite in the series would be Voyage of the Dawn Treader. 😉
My favorite color combination would be shades of lavendar to eggplant, Carribean seas to dark teal and black. We could call it Mourning Becomes Electra after the Eugene O’Neill’s version of the classic Greek Orestia Trilogy, Electra is the Heroine.
Keep Knitting
My favorite sock yarn colors are blood red and black together. I think that “Socklobster” would be a good name for this yarn.
I think my favorite colors for sock yarn would be bright pink, lime green, aqua, and white. It could be called Spring Into Your Step!
Hmm-I think I have too many favourite colours!!
Right now, I guess I would have to say-a vibrant purple, with white, silver and black.
Rainbow and white. Or rainbow and black. Or perhaps just…rainbow. I can’t pick just a few colors!
My favorite color blend would probably reflect my visit to to Carribean last year. I think the best color combinations would be shades of ocean blues and white mixed with some sandy brown colors, and of course the colorway would be named after my favorite island, Aruba.
Blue, golden brown and a clay-like red with just a little black thrown in at random spots. I’m thinking of a combination like this for my own first dying project, and since it’s dominated by earth tones I’d call it something like “Earth First” if it worked out.
My favorite colors are white, blue and red….Summer Time in July. I also love orange, yellow and brown…this I would call Pumpkins for Sale.
I think a great name for a colorway would be Happy Feet. That could be any color, really. I also just saw the company name for a brand of socks at the store, something like Fun For Feet. I smiled because no store-bought socks will ever compare to the fun of hand knit ones.
You’re doing a shawl now? Cool! Is it your first? I know you’d mentioned not being a really experienced lace knitter. Just wait till you bind off and block it, now that is fun.
No more lace yarn for me. I won’t visit you for a while because if I see any more Sea Silk in person, I’ll bankrupt myself. I have my lone skein in a Zip-loc, and I open it every once in a while to pet and sniff. =)
Oh, and I forgot about my favorite colorway! Oops. I love reds and purples. I’m thinking a dark red, blue, and purple colorway. I would call it “Nearly Dusk.”
Hmm…
I really love colors that are sort of tone on tone, variations on a theme. I would love to see a yarn that was purples ranging from that whitish purple color to the dark almost black one, a pretty brown and some turquoise could also be added to the mix, but I love purple. I dunno what I would call it though, I’m bad at naming things.
Jocelyn
Red Black and White… Shiver Me Timbers! it’s easy to figure out what yarn that is, But I love it!!! And that was my high school colors! That was a while ago!
hmmmmm. my favorite? plum. black. dark stormy grey. dark bottle green. the name? thunderstorm. hmmmmmm, i think i’m gonna have to hit my dyeing friends up!
I don’t think I could resist a soft taupe with sage green and dusty lavender, maybe a touch of cream but not too much. It just says “elegant” to me. No name to suggest… I’m not good at names…
A glance at my stash would show that it must be inky blue, teal and deep green with a splash of rich burgundy. It makes me think of velvet and jewels, and autumn clothes, so let’s call it “Autumn Renaissance”.
Hmm, I think my favorite color combination is a deep purple and burgundy with little streaks of a bright teal-green. As for a name I think I would call it “Midsummer’s Night Dream” like the last hints of the sky before the sun has completely vanished.
The names:
Tetley Tea (off-white, black, and reddish brown) for my darling doggy…
and
Sacred Fire..chestnutty reds and browns with a smidge of white for my other girl-the horse!
Of course, greens, reds, and blues rule supreme at this house if you look in the stash..
Thank the Lord for sock clubs that break up the mix a bit!
