Yes, it’s true. Loopy was almost done in by the Sneak Up this afternoon. Miss Violet emailed in the midst of the Sneak Up and said, “OMG – we broke The Ewe!!” As you can see by the photo, he was certainly tripped up by the whole thing. Spent a few minutes with his red stocking feet in the air. However, a few tweaks (and a Cinnamon Dulce Latte) and he was back on his feet in no time. For all of you who were witnessing the process – thank you for hanging in there! Seriously – those guys at the server place will never believe that what we just went through this afternoon was caused by some people buying sock yarn. (Gotta love it.) I was online with Web Guy when we put everything up, and it quickly turned into syrup. (Slooow going.) I asked him about it, he checked, and then said, “It’s handling over several hundred requests per second.” (seriously?) And then he said later that in the two hour Sneak Up period, the database answered three quarters of a million queries. (seriously? I don’t even really know what that means, but it sounds like a heck of a lot of something going on.) So, um …. that’s why Loopy rolled over temporarily. I think the next Sneak Up will have to be at some obscure time of the night to prevent a bit of this. (I know all of our international customers would love that).
If I ever get all of these orders packed and out the door (and it’s iffy, I’ll tell ya), then we DO have more yarn that has arrived on the premises in the last two days! 20 new colors from one of our favorite yarn lines, as well as our latest indie dyer, Stone Barn Fibers (and big thanks to Loopy friend Capi for telling me about them last month!). Also just in today, to-die-for lace from Susie at Perchance to Knit. Just a few skeins so far, because that was what she had on hand, but of course more is on order. You will not believe this lace. I have orders in with several other new indie dyers as well, so keep a watch on the blog for announcements as our orders roll arrive in-house. Would you believe that I was actually thinking earlier this week that we all probably needed a week off from Sneak Ups in this household? That’s not going to happen with all of the boxes that keep arriving at my door. π (And for those who are sad to have missed Yarn Pirate and Perchance to Knit – more is coming from both of those talented gals in the month of May.)
Remember me telling you that I started my lace shawl over the weekend? I’m using the Sea Silk in Nova Scotia (which I see we have already sold out of – although there are still plenty more gorgeous colors of that Sea Silk in stock and they just shipped off more colors to us, so that should be arriving any day.). Here is the little bit of progress I have made. I will not tell you how long it took me to get to that point (but it involved two separate rip-backs. ahem.) I’m thinking it will start to go faster now – and am so anxious to get back at it. This Sea Silk is wonderful to knit with. I’m not even a shawl-wearing person, but I will be a shawl-knitting one. I love it!

In VA, there is a yarn sale on Super Bowl Sunday – where knitters are literally elbowing each other and grabbing to get the good stuff… that’s what it felt like in there yesterday. There was this moment where I had all my stuff in my cart, but couldn’t log in to check out! It all worked out though – I got all the stuff I wanted for sure!
Congrats on such a successful sale!
You lace shawl looks beautiful! I’m currently making socks out of the Fleece Artist Nova Scotia colorway – and love it!! If I lived in you area, I’d volunteer to assist with the packing — hang in there. You always do a lovely job and I for one truly appreciate it! I took a look at the sneak-up – probably slightly after some of the others had picked out some of the Yarn Pirate, as I think there were only 4 colorways when I got in…I was good and resisted buying yarn this time! But, you Know I’ll be back for more soon…
: )
P.S. Is it strange that on Tuesday evening I had a dream that you actually did post a sneak-up in the wee hours of the morning?! I’m not making this up — I really had that dream…
Sheri, I was just blogging about how I wished you would take a week off so that I wouldn’t be tempted by all of the goodies. π It’s #7 in my last post. lol
Wow. It’s always the sock knitters who cause these things. If the world isn’t careful, we just might take over.
Good lord, woman! Are you trying to make me broke???
The shawl is gorgeous! Now, on top of all the sock yarn I want, I want lots of laceweight too.
I posted earlier but was so curious to see what everyone had to say about the Sneak Up I came back to read them all. I get the feeling Sheri that if you do the next Sneak Up at 3 am ET on a workday that everyone will be there shopping. I probably would try to anyway. Such a devoted crowd of yarn lovers here! π
I too lost out on YP Apple-something (forget the exact name). Count yourselves lucky whoever got that colorway. I think it may have been one of the first to go from YP.
I can’t believe I missed the sneak up! It was going to be my first. I had the site up all day and kept refreshing it (I just KNEW it was going to be yesterday) but then had to leave to go to a couple of meetings for work…ONCE AGAIN work is getting in the way of my knitting! At least it pays for it.
I’ll be all over that sneak up next time.
Patti
All that excitemnt and I missed it! That’ll teach me to actually leave the house for a pedicure and manicure! Anniversary coming up this weekend, so have to look nice for the husband, don’t ya know? The sacrifices we make for beauty…
Cinnamon Dulce Latte can make almost any situation bearable again.
I’ve only been window shopping up to this point, however looking at all of the beautiful new stuff is keeping me motivated to finish the two projects that I have on hand. I’m saving up my nickels and dimes for my first purchase soon (which would happen quicker if it weren’t for the Cinnamon Dulce addiction.)
Off to knit a few more rows of lace…
I didn’t get any sock yarn, although I sat and watched it all go down. I took the plunge and bought some sea silk (after things had settled down, later in the afternoon). I can’t wait for it to get here! I think it will turn into something beautiful for my mom–just a little something to thank her for giving birth to me and putting up with me for 20 years!
Sheri,
Your shawl is beautiful. I love the color and pattern. Would you tell me what the pattern is? I would like to knit a shawl to wear to a summer wedding. Sorry to see Loopy all loopy, but what fun all us shoppers had! Keep up the great work. You must be very proud of your incredible success.
hi sheri. love the color of your lace knitting and the pattern is lovely also. so, you don’t wear shawls? will this be for your mom or maybe KD? i’m happy i managed to pick up a couple skeins of yarn for my granddaughter. i was hoping for a better chance to see more colors of PTK, but due to making your chicken casserole, (it is yummy), i was lucky to get one of the last couple of skeins. whit will enjoy the colors though and the very bright LL Anne i picked out for her also. i got so paranoid from reading previous blogs about the shopping frenzy, i did my orders separately so no one would “steal” my PTK. ( : we get a bit crazy about our yarn, don’t we?? happy knitting all.
If anyone wants a heads up on when a Sneak Up is going to be, just ask me for my schedule. it seems Sheri waits until I walk out my door for several hours. That isn’t really a common occurence since I am home on the farm most of the time working.
If you all want i will post my schedule every week, LOL.
Allow me to state for the record that I had nothing to do with nearly 86-ing the sheep.
(And I hope Loopy remembers that⦠maybe leaves me in his sheepy will or something.)
I came back as well to read the comments, I would LOVE your schedule Hariamrit, LOL…the middle of the night is good for me unless on a night I work
I am SO in favor of a sneak-up at some awkward time of night. Go for it! Run wild! Indulge those of us who are across the seas. π
I am so happy that some sock knitters buy sock yarn from the library (said the sock knitting librarian)…!
Poor Loopy is cute, laying on his back. I’m glad it was back up & running soon.
Your lace shawl in Sea Silk, Nova Scotia colorway is beautiful. I too, am curious what pattern you are using.
I am hoping that you will soon be getting in some more Chewy Spaghetti in the (I think it is Serendipity?) colorway that Wendy is using for the socks that she is working on now. Her current work in progress is really pretty, and the colorway is really growing on me! π
