We’ve been baking up some great ideas for this year’s Camp Loopy. We are chuffed to introduce to you, The Great Loopy Make Off! In the style of the Great British Bake Off, this year’s Camp will provide three amazing challenges – one in each summer month (June, July & August). We’re excited to see how our contestants, ahem, participants surprise us! We’re aiming for all the best makes using quality cakes (of yarn) from The Loopy Ewe! At the end of each month, we can’t wait to tell you, “That’s a nice make!”
Camp Loopy Overview
We will again host two Camper categories this year. All Campers can enjoy each other’s company and will complete the same basic monthly challenges, but yardage requirements and rewards will differ as described below. We hope you’ll participate at the level that works for you!
Day Campers
Day Campers will complete 3 missions, each using 200 yards or more per mission to earn rewards. You are absolutely welcome to participate in discussions and in sharing your projects if you don’t meet the yardage requirement, but you will be ineligible for rewards. You can participate this summer with less stress knowing the yardage requirements are lower. Were you aiming for sleep-away camp status but July got busy and you could only get a small project done? No worries – you can still be part of the fun!
Sleep-Away Campers
Sleep-Away Campers will complete 3 missions, each consisting of one project per month. By the end of August, finishers must have completed at least one 800+ yard project, one 600+ yard project and one 400+ yard project. One project must be completed from start to finish in each month (June, July, and August). You can pick which month you complete each yardage requirement, and you can always go over on yardage (yes to 3 projects of 800+ yards), but you must meet the minimum to qualify as a finisher of sleep-away camp. If you know your August will be busy, you might try to get the 800+ yardage project done in June or July.
June Great Loopy Make Off Challenge – Bread Month
The first Challenge for the Great Loopy Make Off is Bread Month. In June, we want you to create something that relates in some way, shape or form to bread. Do you love brioche knitting? GREAT tie-in! Pretzel-shaped cables in your work? Wonderful. Colorwork of baguettes on your sweater? Amazing. There are so many patterns with the word Bread in them on Ravelry (you could also search for terms buns, baguette, brioche, etc.). You might also opt for bread ingredient or techniques – yeast, rise, dough, etc. are all fair game! Designers, yarn bases or colorways with bread-related terms can also work. We are not terribly critical on your connection to the theme, but you must be able to explain some sort of connection. We love hearing about how you came to select the project you did.
The Basics
- We offer a 15% discount on yarn purchased for your June project during Camp Week. Leave an order note letting us know which yarn is for Camp – we will not apply a discount if we do not see an order note (or an email requesting it if you happen to miss leaving a note in your ordering excitement). The discount will be applied on our end after your order comes through. June’s first Camp Week runs May 6-12, 2025. Due to a communication mix up, there will be an additional Camp Week May 13-20, with a 10% discount. For free shipping in the continental U.S., please make sure your discount won’t take you below the $125 level for free shipping.
Note – we are not able to further discount items already on sale - Yarn for your June project must be purchased from The Loopy Ewe on May 6, 2025 or later
- Your project should not be started before June 1st, 2025, and must be completed by June 30th, 2025
- You must provide a photo of your completed make (project) to be eligible for rewards. Email your photo along with your ingredients list (supporting information) to support@theloopyewe.com by midnight, July 1, 2025. The email must also provide the following information on ingredients:
- Pattern & designer used
- Yarn used & yardage – yardage is for yarn held singly (if held double, only half the yardage used will count)
- An explanation of how your project fits with June’s theme
- If available, we’d love a link to your Ravelry (or other) project page! Please DO NOT just send us a link to your Ravelry page. It takes a tremendous amount of work to track everyone, and if you can just put your information in an email to us that helps a lot.
Great Loopy Make Off Rewards
ALL rewards will be applied after Camp Loopy Completion (early September is our goal). This gives us time to verify and compile all the completed makes. Please do not email us in July asking for June’s reward.
Sleep-Away Campers will receive a reward based on the number of months that they complete.
- Complete one month: $5 store credit
- Complete two months: $10 store credit (total, not cumulative)
- Complete all three months: $25 store credit (total, not cumulative)
Day Campers will receive rewards only by completing all three months
- Complete all 3 months 3 finished projects using 200+ yards each) and receive a $10 store credit applied to your account
Camp Loopy Swag
We have a few fun items available this year. The Great Loopy Make Off Stickers are 2″ square and are great for decorating your water bottle, your laptop, your crafting journal, or wherever it makes you happy!
We created 2 sets of baking-themed stitch markers. These super cute sets contain 5 markers, each a different baking charm. You can choose between ring markers and clasped markers for each set.
