I know the beginning of 2021 isn’t going to jump right into being completely different than 2020, but it’s my hope that by mid-year or later, things will be better. And by better, I mean healthier for all. Either way, I’m ready to turn the page on 2020.
I have my first four knitting projects lined up. Two are for testing new yarn, and two are with the same colorway, different bases. (Because I really really love the Holidaze colorway that we received in December!) Here’s what I’m going to be working on (apparently I’m on a fingerless mitts kick…):

What I’d like to finish this year is my never-ending Boxy out of Smooshy with Cashmere, which I am going to love wearing some day. I just have the top and the arms to go. Why can’t I get this done??
What is in your January knitting lineup? And what is ONE WIP that you’d like to complete in 2021? Leave a comment below and we’ll draw one name at the end of next week to win a $50 Loopy Gift Certificate. That way you can start your 2021 projects with some new yarn from Loopy!
We’re looking forward to new things this year. New lines, new challenges, new projects, and we’re already planning Camp Loopy 2021, which has a fun theme with lots of possibilities. We’ll do our best to keep this a happy place that celebrates the joy of creating beauty out of sticks and string. Thanks for being here with us, and Happy New Year!
Sheri
P.S. We’re closed in-store on Friday, January 1st. We’ll be back here on Saturday the 2nd to get your orders out, and will be open in-store Saturday from noon – 5 pm as usual!
I see mostly hats on my to-do list for 2021. My Blue Sands cardigan has been in progress for far too long so it is time to get it done.
I’m so glad someone else has a project that has been in progress for too long, too!
I have two baby girl sweaters I knit so the next time a coworker is having a baby girl, I’ll already have a sweater ready and won’t need to rush to finish a project in time. (In our office we have a baby or two every year) I’d love to have a boy sweater too so I’m ready for either one! There are so many cute girls sweater patterns but not as many boy ones. But I do have a couple patterns I hope to get to and finish in 2021.
It’s a great idea to knit them ahead and be ready!
Just the BO row and I’m done with a the Tanis shawl. The I start Misurina.
I’m on the never ending sleeves of a Transom sweater. It’s beautiful, but in my size…
Keep going – you’ll love wearing it when it’s done! 🙂
I have a lovely sweater for spring that I am working on. I am using
The Fibre Co, Luma in a light beige. It has lots of cables.
That sounds beautiful!
My line-up is mostly WIPs– 2 gnomes and the Verderers cowl for my sister. She’s been waiting a long time for it. Also a matching hat to go with my red scarf. Stretch goal- a Thea Colman sweater, leaning toward Vodka Lemonade.
I’m planning to start ‘Dillon’ by Elizabeth Doherty and finish my modified version of ‘Nest and Burrow’.
Thanks for all you do for us. You’ve helped make 2020 a brighter year.
Good – I want to knit Dillon this year, too!
I started a charity blanket using a LOT of stash! Perfect for working on in January, as it’s lapghan sized right now.
I would love to finish my Goldfish memory shawl in 2021. I started a couple of times and left it on the back burner. I will pick up soon
I have one of those to finish this year, too!
I’ve got a couple of shawls that I want to knit this January. And I need to finish seaming this sweater I’ve been working on and knit the button band. I actually wanted to WEAR this sweater at some point this winter, but it’s been sitting around for months, so I just need to get moving. 🙂
Happy New Year!
I have both a Countdown to Inauguration and a Knit,as shawl on needles. I really really need to finish the chenille blanket that always gets sh7nted aside for a new exciting project .
I’d like to finish my Ghost Horses sweater someday!
My January knitting line up includes a Love Note sweater KAL with the ladies in my knitting group. The WIP I’m hoping to finish is a Fly Away baby blanket (by Tin Can knits) before my friend’s daughter arrives in February!
I have a shawl and hat to finish. New knitting includes a baby blanket for a baby girl due in May.
I’d like to get Banded done. It will be a new fitted shape to try.
I’m determined to finish a Hitchhiker that I’m knitting with a special Loopy Ewe skein that was a gift from my son. I was knitting on it last night, and I’ll be working on it much of today. Happy New Year to everyone at The Loopy Ewe!
What a nice gift!
I’d love to complete Lizard Ridge this year, but I’d really be quite happy completing half of the squares in 2021. The Lizard has to compete with sock knitting and prayer shawl knitting…but I’m cheering for that colorful reptile!
It’s really such a pretty pattern.
I’ve got to finish a cardigan for myself that I started in 2017, it’s a cotton yarn and I would like to wear it this spring/summer! taking it out of its storage bag TODAY!
Cheering you on long distance!
I started a Morinne cardigan for my mom, but it didn’t get finished for Christmas. Maybe in time for Mother’s Day?
That sounds like a good new goal date!
Hi Sheri! In January I plan to knit the Suburban Wrap by Joji Locatelli. I have just started it. It is such a fun knit, because there are so many different pattern sections, and it calls for 3 different colors. So I won’t get bored. What I am so looking forward to in 2021 is Camp Loopy. I just love that little loopy with the mismatched socks. So I will need to pick up a few of your items with the his little logo on them. So far, those are my plans for 2021. I will be adding more as time goes on. Happy New Year.
So glad you’re going to camp with us this year, Diane. It’s going to be fun!
I love those first mitts, those might have to go in my January knitting lineup ;p but I really have to finish the sweater I am making with my yarn advent calendar, I’m only on the 5th colour and advent is long over!
January Knitting Lineup…Pioneer Cuff by Nelkin Designs, Dive-In Cowl by Stephanie Lotven and Square Susan by Casey Day-Crosier. My one WIP to finish in 2021 would be the sweater Naima by ANKESTRiCK. I knit to the pockets and stalled out.
I would like to finish Tremble first and then Ann.
LOL…just downloaded a fingerless mitts pattern (must be something in the air!) Reading some of the comments, maybe knitting a child-sized sweater would be a good learning tool…after all, I have 7 granddaughters, so it’s bound to fit one of them!
I would love to complete my Tidal that I started in 2014! I get too distracted by new projects with new yarn.
Good Morning and Happy New Year!
I will finish VNeck Boxy by the end of Jan 2021.
Going to start a Chai Latte Cowl with Malabrigo yarn from Loopy.
A Hackney cardigan is my largest WIP and the one I’d most like to finish in January.
I want to finish a Slow Dog Noodle scarf. I want to start…a new headband for the cold, and a few cowls! So many to choose from! Also need a few baby gifts. My goal for 2021 is to keep on! Things actually get done when you knit on them! Funny how that works
Had to take a look at the Slow Dog Noodle Scarf….the name sounds amazing!
Best scarf name ever!
I pulled out an old kit that I bought for Stephen West’s Akimbo pattern. I have finished the easy garter section, and have started the chevron portion of the shawl. I can’t believe that I will finally complete this project!
I hate having more than one project on the needles, so my only WIP is Evelyn Clark’s Swallowtail Lace Shawl. I’m already looking forward to jumping into Joji Locatelli’s Storm Shawl and maybe something by Steve Rousseau.
I would love to knit up the Magnolia Cardigan. I have had my eye on that pattern since it came out. Happy New Year everyone
That’s such a great, classic pattern (with some fun detail on the top).
‘In the Grasslands’ is next up on my to do list. I need to finish one of my oldest WIP, a kimono ‘re-su katabira’ it’s been hibernating since 2014 and has moved with me 3 times since then. I hope it isn’t moldy.
I’d like to complete an advent knit. I have two full 24 skein kits that haven’t found their joy yet.
That’s like having a new box of crayons!
I have a log cabin blanket that needs an endless I cord edging I would like to finish up.
That’s going to be awesome on a blanket. I love the look and feel if i-cord edging.
As soon as my replacement needles arrive I’ll finish up a pair of socks I’m working on. The needle popped off the cord right in the middle is a row. The WIP that I simply must finish is my Squirrel sweater. It’s been knit and ripped three times. Maybe the 4th time will be a charm. Happy new year everybody.
Yes – we’ll go with “fourth time’s a charm”. Fingers crossed!
I plan to finish my Kyler shawl soon. It’s taking longer than any other shawl I’ve knit due to all the lace and 1×1 ribbing.
Socks – 5 pairs in progress, I also have some shawls I’d like to knit.
I have a pair of fingerless mitts for myself that keep getting pushed aside for other projects. I would really like to finish those this year.
Mittens! I’ve decided that chunky my handspun is perfect for warm mittens and it isn’t getting used for anything else (except occasional hats). It’s like when I first mastered knitting socks – something about the structure of the simple mitten is a marvel to me. That thumb gusset is just a cool thing…. Anyway, first WIP to knock off in the New Year is my mitten in progress. Then I have some test knitting to do with one of my own new yarns. Happy New Year to all!
Plus, bulky mittens are nice and WARM!!
Starting with the goldfish memory shawl, then Camp Loopy, then the fall TAG and finally the gnome MKAL I just want to thank you for making the crazy 2020 a year filled with fun projects and lots of new friends.
I definitely see more gnomes in the future as well as lots more little kindness monsters since I have given so many away and all have been so loved.
Right now I have 2 WIP’s that I am working on.
Trillian Shawl by Martina Behm in Wollmeise Nobody Is Perfect color Aspen Tree and Shepherd’s Hill Trio (hat/cowl/mitts) by Kelly McClure in Cascade Heritage colors Calla Green and Blood Orange.
Thank you for keeping me sane, and happy, healthy new year to Sheri and all at TLE. ❤️
I’m so happy you participated in all of those fun things with us, Pam! I’ve loved seeing your photos on the Loopy Knitting Circle group!
I just started Bedford and I’d like to finish a couple of mostly done sweaters and a pair of socks. Happy New Year!
I plan to cast on a second Slipstravaganza today as my New Year’s cast-on, and I’m planning out the rest of my January project list today The WIP I’d like to finish is a black lace shawl, one of Boo Knits. It’s very pretty but the rows are getting long!
I don’t have any WIPs, but I want to knit a pair of socks because it’s been a long time since I’ve done that.
I have three sweaters that NEED to be completed in 2021. Two have been on the needles for over a year. Mitra, Quill and Foxtrot.
You will love having those done to wear!
I keep going back and forth on my January knitting lineup. I want to finish at least one WIP before every new project, so I’ve been reviewing what WIPs are either closest or should be knit first – I think the last couple of winter items (slippers and a hat) and all of the baby things (before the baby doesn’t fit anymore!) are the next new projects up. I think the first WIP I really want to get done is Salted, since it’s the perfect time of year for it (if I finish it soon), followed by Lost in Time because I have a scrap project I’m excited about but can’t get started on until I see what gradient repeats I have left!
I’m using up scrap yarn to make slippers. Getting a head start on Christmas gifts for next year!
You are so smart to get going on that already!
I have a serious hat knitting fetish along with shlankets, so there are a ton of those planned for 2021. WIP’s? Oh boy. I have a Baseline with 2 different pinks, a navy blue and a speckled yarn that is begging to be finished. Christmas knitting got in the way.
My first sweater for myself! I’d love to finish that.
I want to finish the Orenburg shawl I have had on my needles for most of 2020. I had to rip out over 100 rows due to a stupid error and have had a hard time willing myself to finish it. But now I have given myself the goal of completing it by May. Hopefully, no more stupid errors go unseen for more than a row.
Ohhhhh. 100 row ripouts are painful. 🙁
