We are celebrating 10 years of Loopy-ness this month! It seems like so long ago that we started The Loopy Ewe in a little corner of our basement. You can see just about the whole corner in this photo. Small but colorful, and we enjoyed lots of happy knitters dropping in to shop! Here it is in 2006.
After a few months, we had to take over the rest of the basement. At this point, our Loopy friend James coined the term “Loopy Elves” for the wonderful people that pull and pack your orders, and the name stuck. We have always had great Loopy Elves.
We had lots of boxes going out of the house. Sometimes they filled the front hallway. Other times we stacked them in the living room. Sometimes we called in my parents to HELP!!! with all of the orders, especially during Sock Club shipments.
After a year in the house, we moved Loopy out of the house and into space about 3 blocks away. It was so nice to have more room!
That lasted about a year, and then we needed more space, so they broke through a wall at Loopy and added in more space for us. We also added in the whole line of Cascade 220 and filled those cubbies before adding in all of the extra yarn shelves into that space. (We still have all of those cubbies filled with Cascade 220!)
In December of 2011, we packed everything up (and by “we”, I mean the movers) and hauled the whole shop out to Fort Collins, CO. Paul and I have always loved the mountains, and Fort Collins reminded us of the hometown we grew up in in Iowa. It took a huge moving van and part of another to get all of Loopy out there, but we were up and shipping again within the week. Loopy kept a close eye on things.
We had found a big, bright, cheerful space with a view of the mountains outside the windows. (I can hardly remember when it looked like this. It didn’t take us long to add in more shelves, move the packing station, and move the Sit and Knit area. But this is what it looked like at first.)
After three years of adding more and more shelves for yarn, we decided to also add fabric to the shopping options at Loopy, and boy, that has been fun as well. Once again we went through the knocking down of walls and adding in more space. It looked so empty in there before we got all of the fabric in!
Now our shop is full to the brim with colorful yarn and beautiful fabrics and lots of temptations. (Or at least I’m constantly tempted by things as I walk around the shop every day. My yarn and fabric stashes are out of control awesome!)
We have loved having all of you along for the ride with us these past ten years. Your support, encouragement, purchases, photo sharing and referrals have been wonderful and are always always appreciated. It’s why we have a Loopy Rewards Program year-round. We appreciate you 365 days a year! Our yarn companies and vendors often say, “You guys have the BEST customers!” and we wholeheartedly agree. You are the best.
Now we are looking forward to the next ten years of Loopy-ness, and of course sharing that with all of you. There is always something going on around here and we love sending you Boxes of Fun with new things for your projects and stash.

Happy Anniversary and congrats, love getting a fun box ❤️
Congratulations and many thanks for all the happy hard work the whole “extended family” has put forth through the past ten years. Everyone has participated in making The Loopy Ewe great. We all have encouraged each other to make wonderful artful love filled completed, yet to bet completed or…never to be completed projects and learning accomplishments. It is “all good” and “good” has been learned and felt by one and all. Together through “Flings”, camps, Academy, and gatherings and time in store there have been lessons learned, tears shed, giggles and laughter by means of virtual and real time moments. Ten cheers for all! Tim Tam Slam if you can! Keep on knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, sewing , quilting, felting, and so on.
What a great story! All of my LYS have closed their doors and I miss going in to squish new yarns or sit and knit with others.
I was fortunately able to get to shop ( although not long enough) at the Loopy Ewe the end of May.
You have a beautiful shop, and I’m looking forward to visiting again on my next trip to CO.
Congratulations on your 10th Anniversary !!! I love to go to your store and look at all of your yarns, colors and beautiful knitted items and all the supplies. Your employees are very helpful and very knowledgeable and very kind every time I have visited. My problem is I live too far away from you but since my daughters live there, I get to go there every time I am there. Keep up the good work.
