Happy Loopy-versary and a CONTEST!

We are celebrating 10 years of Loopy-ness this month! It seems like so long ago that we started The Loopy Ewe in a little corner of our basement. You can see just about the whole corner in this photo. Small but colorful, and we enjoyed lots of happy knitters dropping in to shop! Here it is in 2006.

Year One

After a few months, we had to take over the rest of the basement.
At this point, our Loopy friend James coined the term “Loopy Elves” for the wonderful people that pull and pack your orders, and the name stuck. We have always had great Loopy Elves.

We had lots of boxes going out of the house.
Sometimes they filled the front hallway. Other times we stacked them in the living room. Sometimes we called in my parents to HELP!!! with all of the orders, especially during Sock Club shipments.

After a year in the house, we moved Loopy out  of the house and into space about 3 blocks away.
It was so nice to have more room!

That lasted about a year, and then we needed more space, so they broke through a wall at Loopy and added in more space for us.
We also added in the whole line of Cascade 220 and filled those cubbies before adding in all of the extra yarn shelves into that space. (We still have all of those cubbies filled with Cascade 220!)

In December of 2011, we packed everything up (and by “we”, I mean the movers) and hauled the whole shop out to Fort Collins, CO. Paul and I have always loved the mountains, and Fort Collins reminded us of the hometown we grew up in in Iowa. It took a huge moving van and part of another to get all of Loopy out there, but we were up and shipping again within the week. Loopy kept a close eye on things.

We had found a big, bright, cheerful space with a view of the mountains outside the windows.
(I can hardly remember when it looked like this. It didn’t take us long to add in more shelves, move the packing station, and move the Sit and Knit area. But this is what it looked like at first.)

After three years of adding more and more shelves for yarn, we decided to also add fabric to the shopping options at Loopy, and boy, that has been fun as well.
Once again we went through the knocking down of walls and adding in more space. It looked so empty in there before we got all of the fabric in!

Now our shop is full to the brim with colorful yarn and beautiful fabrics and lots of temptations. (Or at least I’m constantly tempted by things as I walk around the shop every day. My yarn and fabric stashes are out of control awesome!)

We have loved having all of you along for the ride with us these past ten years. Your support, encouragement, purchases, photo sharing and referrals have been wonderful and are always always appreciated. It’s why we have a Loopy Rewards Program year-round. We appreciate you 365 days a year! Our yarn companies and vendors often say, “You guys have the BEST customers!” and we wholeheartedly agree. You are the best.

Now we are looking forward to the next ten years of Loopy-ness, and of course sharing that with all of you. There is always something going on around here and we love sending you Boxes of Fun with new things for your projects and stash.

CONTEST: We have giveaways to celebrate our anniversary! New Kauni colors, a Loopy Swag prize, a Loopy Solid Series Bonanza, Loopy Gift Certificates, and more. We’ll announce winners next week. To enter, leave a comment below.

Did you pick up our Tenth Anniversary Kit already? We’ve shipped a lot out, but we ordered a lot so there are still plenty left. You will love the exclusive Knerd String skein and fun project bag. Also, we have a new Loopy Solid Series arriving this fall, so all current Solid Series skeins are in Last Call at 25% off. We need to make room, so get them while you can!

  1. Happy anniversary The Loopy Ewe!! I first began shopping at TLE in 2007 and became a Loopy Groupie shortly after. Love the selection, service and project ideas! Congratulations on 10 years and wishing you many more!!

  2. Congratulations! I have loved shopping online, can credit Camp Loopy for my first sweater last year, and you’ve made it so easy for my husband to shop for gifts for me. Here’s to 10 more wonderful years!

  3. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania, but most of my wonderful family lives in Ft Collins. I can remember when Loopy opened its doors in town, my family sighed “not another yarn shop.” But after visiting the shop with me when I’m in town, they eagerly announce, “I’m going shopping-need a ride to Loopy Ewe?” I love you Loopy-and my non-knitters do too!!!

  4. I love to wander through, it is bright and well organized. Best LYS ever. So glad the Mountains called you here to our special place

  5. I love Loopy Ewe. I finally got to visit in person during a visit to Ft. Collins and it is truly amazing!! The people are wonderful, and Oh, the Yarn….. (sigh). I LOVE LOOPY!

  11. Happy Anniversary!

I was so very sad when The Loopy Ewe left St. Louis for Ft. Collins. My friends would often schedule an “after work” field trip to shop and pet all the beautiful yarn.

I miss seeing yarns in person but they’re only a click away and Loopy customer service is consistently great.

  12. I love The Loopy Ewe! I’ve participated in Camp Loopy every year and I enjoy it so much. Love the great customer service and large selection of beautiful yarsn.

  13. Happy Anniversary! My goodness, what an operation you all have! I would love to just get lost in your shop, seeing, feeling, breathing in all the wonderful textures available! Hopefully, my cell phone would have no service so my husband couldn’t interrupt or find me!!
Blessings for the wonderful years to come!

  14. We are so lucky to have your wonderful shop close by! The addition of fabric as another temptation – cruel, but appreciated!!
