Knit Play Colour and a Giveaway!

Knit Play Colour 1Our designer friend Louise (who does Inspiration Knits patterns and has designed for our Giftables Club) has published her first book! Called Knit Play Colour, it is full of wonderful designs and ways to adapt them when you want to “play” with the pattern a bit and make it more your own. Lots of options and choices. For more about Louise, you can read the Designer Spotlight blog post that we did on her last year. One thing about Louise – she is always thinking up great new variations for her patterns, and this book showcases that.

I found several “must make that” patterns as I was going through the book. Here are just a few of my favorites:

Flights of Colour (I love patterns that use more than one color. It’s fun to come up with different combinations):

Flilghts of Colour

Colour Trail (This looks like a great pattern for multi-color yarn. And I always have a lot of that.):

Colour Trail

Shadowlines (That just looks luscious to wrap up in, doesn’t it?):

Shadowlines

Heart Deco (Pretty cowl and cool heart design in there.):

Louise has offered to give one of our blog readers a free e-book copy. Just leave a comment below and tell us which pattern you’d pick first out of the book (see the patterns here and/or buy yourself or a friend a copy at this link). We’ll draw a name next week to win the free copy.

  1. So hard to pick just one. I like multiple but the color Trail is wonderful as is the Shadowlines. How wonderful they are .

  2. I think Yarn Tamer looks interesting, even if you do not have a yarn that needs to “tamed”. I have a lot of skeins of yarn that could be combined with a solid or complimentary tonal to make something truly awesome.

  3. Tough choice!! I love so many of them! The first on my needles would have to be Flight of Color, though… Love the shape and the potential for mixing colors.

  4. Personally I LOVE the Resonate pattern – that is definitely going on my “Must Make” list. Now I’m crossing my fingers that I’m the lucky winner 🙂

  5. Shadowlines would be first – it’s been a while since I’ve challenged myself with a cable project, and I’ve got at least 4 or 5 great yarn choices in stash already. And when it started getting too challenging, I’d start a Yarn Tamer for an easier co-project.

  6. Flight of Colour is my choice because I love stripes. You can use bright colors to make it fun or use neutral colors for a classic look.

  7. Ooh, these are awesome patterns! I would have to try my hand at Yarn Tamer. That one screams “Make me first!!!”

  8. It’s probably out of my ability range, but I like Shadowlines. I’ll probably gift the book to a friend, however, since she’s much more of a knitter than me.

  9. I’ve been admiring all of these patterns for awhile. Tied for top spot of all the patterns would be Affinity and Shadowline. Beautiful job with these!!

  10. LOVE Louise’s designs and so excited about this first book of hers! All of them are gorgeous, but if I had to pick one, I’d probably go with Yarn Tamer since I’m on a cowl kick at the moment.

  11. Yarn Tamer! I love having colorful cowls to add some life to my boring work wardrobe. Plus I may have a problem with compulsively buying variegated sock yarn 🙂

  12. Color Trail. I have “a” skein of hand painted yarn that is crying to be a shawl but so many patterns are intricate and the currently popular semi-solid or tonal yarns work better.

  13. Shadow lines looks like a lot of bang for your buck! Love all of the cables and texture.
    Thanks much,

  14. Love the patterns you showed on the blog. Have yarn in my stash that would be perfect for Flights of Color!!

  15. What a beautiful book. It’s so hard to choose but I think I would knit the Colour Trail shawl first. I am always looking for great patterns to knit with all those variegated skeins that I seem to have a lot of in my stash.
Thank you for the chance to win this book.

  16. Yarn Tamer looks so beautiful and I have several skeins that could really benefit from a creative way to play up their colors.

  17. All of them are gorgeous! I think Affinity would be my first project though. The purples jumped out and grabbed me.
